So I finally unlocked all the equipment in SC5, so here are some more designs: under the cut )
geebs: (Default)
So, I've been working on some new CAS designs on SC V. spoiler cut )
geebs: (Default)
Minotaur heads were an option for CAS in the previous Soul Caliburs, but this is the first time I think you could have hooved legs. Between that, and better adjustment of your character's size (now you can really make hulking beasts), I decided to create a Kiltar (using Astaroth's moveset, obviously). I think the design can be improved though, but the pieces I'm thinking about using from the previous games haven't unlocked yet.

Its why I've been holding off on creating some characters. So far, I've made a Kaz (I still haven't decided on the right color set, the Crane Clan's colors were light blue and white, so I've been using that), Angelyn (and her non-fallen form, Arduine), Innocence Wrapped in Exquisite Torment (and with the ability to add tattoos anywhere now, I added a tramp stamp), and Linaria. I think those designs can be improved by pending equipment (particularly the full armor sets) Once those armors are unlocked, I can make a Siltrana, and they actually have a skull faceplate thing, so I can make a more accurate Gambit! I'm kinda pissed you can't use Ezio's movesset for created characters, because it would've been perfect for Abdul. And I think I said before, I've never made a Belle, but I have some ideas. I'm thinking Patroklos or Pyrrha (either version) for the moveset since she did use a sword and shield (of missile attraction, but with immunity to normal missiles). Hmm, and I just had an idea for a Takeo, using the Devil Jin moveset.

(Yeah, I know only one or two of you know what the hell I've just been talking about, but whatever)

I also forgot to mention you can now add patterns to the clothes/armor, which gives you even more options. Particularly if you've always wanted tiger stripes or leopard print to give your clothing/armor a more animal hide type appearance. So that's cool.

TV commentary:

White Collar- Wait, when did Sara and Neal break up?! I thought she was made at him over his deception, but with Keller menacing them, I thought they worked it out. Like, all this time she wasn't around, I just thought she was working a case outside of NYC!

Anyways, so that E! online poll for 2012's best TV couple I posted about a couple of entries ago has been extended and a captcha added. The current stats have Barney and Robin neck and neck with Britanna, and Jannie, Castiel/Dean, and Faberry with a sizable lead over their opponents.

I'm sure like all online polls, there's some cheating involved, much like when The Grimstari flooded the ballot box for William Wallace in WWWF's grudge match of William Wallace vs Groundskeeper Willy, but I'm actually kinda curious if E! is implementing such measures because of the cheating, or because they did not expect the... tenacity of the fandoms, and are not pleased with the results.

I mean, if the current stats do end reflectng the actual winners, that means 2 of the couples in the final four are "non-canon" and "same-sex though none of the characters is actually gay". And those two are going against each other, so the finals will guarantee one of the choices is a non-canon not gay/lesbian on the show same-sex couple. And I'm not sure they know how they would write up their article if either won. Like, "apparently a bunch of people voted these two characters as the best TV couple of 2012, even though they are not an actual couple on the show, or each other's sexual preferences"?

And the non-canon thing is one thing, but if Britanna beats out the BroTP, its up against Jannie. I'm not sure who has a more rabid shipper fanbase, Brittany and Santana or Jeff and Annie. I think Britanna would prolly win over them, because while both have decent internet followings, I think there are more rabid Glee fans than Community fans. Well, let me specify. Glee has more rabid fans who love Brittana than Community has Jannie fans, because there's a significant portion of Community fans who hate the very idea of ships on their beloved show and think the time they spend on Jeff and Annie is wasted. Then again, Jeff and Annie did win last years poll.

Anyways, if it did end up being Brittana vs either Castiel/Dean or Faberry, that would put the final two as same-sex couples, and while I like to think we've progressed enough as a people in America to be fine with gay couples on our television screen, the best TV couple in 2012 being a same-sex one? That might be hard for some fans to swallow!

So I've been fully expecting to be disappointed with tonight's episode of Gossip Girl, Dair-wise. Like its gonna be just more teasing that will never amount to anything. Then I saw this this ONTD post, and it makes me think, maybe, just maybe the writers will hook up Dan and Blair. I mean, the pictures are pretty compelling evidence, but I'll believe it when I see it on the show. It could be another dream sequence, who knows!

Anyways, I'm currently at level 30 in SC5. Just 22 levels to go before I unlock every piece of equipment. I think I mentioned it before, but the sucky thing is that a couple of key pieces I need for my created characters are in the batch unlocked at 52.

But yeah, I've been gaining levels by playing through each character in the standard, European and Asian tracks. Just one track is too short to really get a feel for a characters. I've actually only played Mitsurugi, Raphael, Cervantes, Ezio, Lexia, Patroklos, Alpha Patroklos, and Siegfried. I've played a little of Pyrrha, Omega Pyrrha, and Zwei in story mode, but not nearly enough as I have the other characters.

I was thinking I'd prefer Pyrrha since she's closer to original flavor Sophitia, but Patroklos has some pretty neat moves. And unlike his mother, his A+B guard impact, you don't have to get attacked to use it. The critical edge is an interesting addition to the game, unlike the previous game where it was an insta-win, its closer to a super combo from SF. I think they are a little too easy to perform, as its the same input for every character. So basically, by the time you've won 2 rounds and you haven't used too many brave edges, you should have enough meter to perform at least one critical edge. Then that last round, you only have to worry about getting the opponent down to about a 1/4 to an 1/8 health and your win is practically guaranteed.
geebs: (Default)
So, I finished up the story mode in SC5. Is it me, or do Patroklos and Pyrrha not act like siblings? Anyways, it is annoying that there is just the one story. Particularly since you run into the other characters and they hint that there's this back story to them, one that's never explored!

I mean, Lexia is Xianghua's daughter, but who's her dad? Xiba has Kilik's staff, is he related to him? Why are they hanging out with Taki's disciple. Or Maxi for that matter? Particularly since he doesn't seem that much older in this game, when he's supposed to be a contemporary of those character's parents/teachers.

Owel, so the only motivation in this game for me now is to level up, so I can unlock more equipment, so I can start making created characters. Which is fine, if there's one thing I like doing, its leveling up. But I wish I could get like a story/ending for the rest of the characters.

Since Amazon has track listings weeks in advance, you can use it to see what songs are coming up on Glee, even before the leaks of the actual songs. Anyways, so this upcoming Valentine's Day episode, one of the songs is a mash-up between Cherish and Cherish. Unfortunately, there's no clue as to which Cherishes. So which two of the Madonna, Kool and the Gang, or the Association versions is it?
geebs: (Default)
SC V blather- Ah, I guess you do get to play more than Patroklos in story mode- during the story you also play Pyrrha, Omega Pyrrha, Alpha Patroklos, and Zwei. Pyrrha plays more like Sophitia, and the Omega version of her even more so. Alpha Patroklos, however, plays like Setsuka. Which is kinda annoying because its like, "hey, play as this one character for a while, then play as his sister, who has a similar moveset, so its just familiar enough to confuse you because you expect one move and get another. Oh, and then now he has a totally new moveset." Actually, Alpha-P isn't too bad, I find him more usable than Setsuka. Though still not as usable as the normal version of him or either versions of his sister.

Vampire Diaries- Awesome ep tonight. spoiler cut )

Got to tinker around with SC5 a bit more last night. I think the thing that will disappoint folks most about this game is the sparse single player experience. There's only one story mode, that basically follows the new hero of the game, Sophitia's son, Patroklos. Its similar to the story mode of the previous game, he fights some scrubs or PCs, sometimes the stage has special effects relevant to the "story", and between matches, there's a cut scene explaining why he's fighting the next set of people.

As for the rest of the characters, there's nothing. There's an arcade mode where you fight 6 computer opponents, but after you beat all of them, you don't get any sort of ending. However, getting new weapons and equipment (which no longer have any game effects, its purely for aesthetics) is easier. Instead of getting gold for fighting, which you can use to buy stuff, your save gets experience and levels. As you level up, more weapons and equipment are available. It is kinda annoying you don't get better offense/defense with the weapons and armor, but at the same time, it also give you a certain freedom- it was a little annoying in SCIV that there were stats tied to all that, because then if you wanted to make your character look a certain way, you could end up sacrificing attack power or health or what have you.

Supposedly, all the weapons and equipment are unlocked by level 53, and everything else after that is face paint and "stickers" (basically tattoos if you put them directly on your created character's skin, or emblems/decorations if you put them on equipment). So basically, you can play arcade and quick battle to grind for experience in order to unlock more stuff so you have more options for your created characters. Which is fine for me, because for me a lot of the "fun" derived from gaming is this:

1) The character starts out with his/her stats at X. Max all stats.

2) There are X many weapons/armors/items/equipment/titles. Get everything.

3) There are X "accomplishments" you get kudos for doing. Do all of them.

That's tedious for some, but to me that's the "point" of the game. Like why would you have a stat at 64 out of 100 when you have the chance to make it 100 out of a 100?! Or not get an item that exists in the game world?! Its like leaving a dessert out there, unconsumed! Or let's say your character starts out being able to hold 5 knives. And eventually, you can get it so he could hold 50?! Granted, I most likely will never need to use all 50, I'd be able to replenish my stock before getting close to running out, but I'd like the option to hold that many! If you don't, your character is not the best they can be!

Anyways, as per usual, I make create a character versions of my characters or significant NPCs from tabletop RPGs I've played in (could I be any more geeky?) I've noticed I have more fun making the girls. I mean, Gladius? Silver knight look dude. Gambit? White guy in a cloak. Abdul? Brown guy in a cloak. (Though I guess I do a little more with him if I make it the 16th century version in Japan, as I can do a mix of European/Middle Eastern/Japanese with the outfit) Kaz? Demonic (well, devilish, or technically fallen angel-ish) Asian Samurai looking dude. Actually, I guess I could do a little more with his design as well, since there are more options to make your character look demonic. (Is it weird that coincidentally those are also my two most evil, effed up, and monstrous characters?)

I guess I just have more fun with the chyx designs. Siltrana, Linaria, Angelyn. Angelyn's the only one I've made so far (I think I made her too busty, that's her daughter), and I really think the design can be improved once more equipment is unlocked. Hopefully angel wings are still an option, they're not available yet. In any case, I think I'll hold of on creating any more characters until I have more equipment unlocked. Character creation is time consuming!

So, Soul Calibur V showed up from Amazon yesterday. Haven't had time to play around with it too much yet. Despite the changes in roster, I was surprised how familiar it all was- Lexia and Patroklos play a lot like their moms. Not that there aren't significant changes to people's movesets- for one, Misturugi no longer has his relic stance. You know, the iai-jutsu sheathed sword stance. Which is kinda disappointing. I was never good enough to fully utilize it, but it was nice having the option all, "my sword is not even drawn and I'll still slice you up".

I also noticed Cervantes only has his vertical guard impact special move. Which is fine since that's the good one (its the one where he shoots them in the face after the block), just surprising they got rid of the horizontal one. But unless they changed the input command, he no longer has that move where he teleports above them and comes down with a sword cleave. (I didn't see it amongst his move list)

Character creation is in full force- you have way more control over your fighter's "body type". I mean, you can adjust height, weight, bust (yes, you can make ridiculous bowling ball sized ta-tas), waist, hips, thighs, calves, muscle tone, etc. And unlike the previous game, you can adjust all those independently.

Plus you have way more control over tattoo placement- the previous game, you had a couple of tattoos fixed to a certain body part. But here, you have dozens of options for the image, and you can adjust the size and basically apply it anywhere you want. You can even have a tramp stamp.

The clothing and equipment seems to be a lot of the same stuff from SC4, though it seems like its not everything. Unless more stuff gets unlocked as you play through.

So, there's a new Assassin's Creed Revelations trailer, showcasing Ezio's moves (and a little Altair, too):

which segues into the bigger news, that Ezio is indeed the new guest character for SC5:

On the one hand, as I said before, he's a fitting addition to the game universe. On the other though, his style is geared towards parry and get in a kill move. And from the trailer, it looks like there's a lot of that. So the silly thing is that his opponents are still standing afterward. Then again, all the characters have moves where its like, they just cleaved into that dude's skull or severed that chick's spine, how are they still up and fighting. Its the nature of the game. But really, if Ezio was in that world, this is how the fights should go with him..

DW7 stuff: cut for your benefit )

So its E3 this week, here's what's got my attention so far:

Star Wars: The Old Republic- I'm not actually into MMORPGs, and the actual game doesn't look that great to me, but the cinematics are cool:

Resident Evil stuff- The RE franchise is delving into the squad-based shooter world with Operation Raccoon City. Some people are pissed all "this isn't RE!", but its like, calm the frick down. Its not the direction the series is going to begin to go. So yes, it isn't traditional RE, but its looks like a cool game that takes place in that universe. I mean, if you're wanting something more traditional, there's Resident Evil: Revelations for the 3DS

>Assassin's Creed: Revelations: Here's the new trailer with Ezio being all bad-ass:

Ezio's looking a little old though. But looks like he's hanging around Altair's old stomping grounds.

Soul Calibur V- So this is a 17 year time jump from the previous game, since two of the characters are Sophitia's now adult children. But how is Mitsurugi still around then, he's got to be in his 50s now!

Ninja Gaiden 3- Looks pretty bloody and brutal, though Hayabusa's always been pretty bad-ass.

Street Fighter x Tekken- I hear some SF folks complaining the pace is a little slower than what they're used to, but still, its kinda cool to see fighters from these two franchises face off against each other.

Uncharted 3: Looks pretty awesome, heh, the trailer makes it look like a summer action flick.

Kinect Star Wars- It at least gets points for cool use of the tech. Though I would feel totally goofy having to yell "lightsaber: on" to turn my lightsaber on.

Gears of War 3- You get Mechs now! The other interesting thing I've seen is getting to play stages from two perspectives. The example they show is Marcus and Dom fighting a Leviathan on the ship, and once they hurt it enough, its killed by Damon and Cole dropping a crate full of explodey things on it from above. But yeah, once you play Marcus and Dom's side, you get to play things from Damon and Cole's side, where they're getting into position to drop the things.

Mass Effect 3- Looks awesome, and also a little more shooter-y than the previous titles?

Devil May Cry- Not sure why they had to reboot the series, but I'm sure it should be a solid action-er.

Tell me the Knight XV isn't the coolest SUV ever! I mean, its a bio-fuel powered armored luxury SUV. Heh, it even comes with a PS3.

Just watching "To Love and Die" on USA right now. Hey, it looks to be an action comedy about a cute chick (Roswell's, or I guess more currently, ER's Shiri Appleby. I like the nerd girl look she's sporting on the latter show) who becomes an professional killer (but not a Lesbian Vampire Killer. Speaking of, are they lesbians who kill vampires, or killers who kill lesbian vampires? And why would you want to kill a lesbian vampire anyways?). Anyhoo, she is like the most ridiculously adorable assassin ever. And, ooh, there's a new Leverage tonight also. Oh wait, this is a pilot for a new series?! As if I didn't have enough to watch already!

Speaking of watching things, watching reruns of OTH and the OC on Soapnet this afternoon, saw a commercial for General Hospital, and it showed Robert Scorpio giving his hot daughter Robin away on her wedding. And her mom (who's also the mom of them Halliwell/Matthews chyx on Charmed) was there too. Now, I haven't seen an ep of GH since the last century/millenium, but weren't they dead? And its not like it was an old ep, because Robin is all growed up (and apparently she has HIV?!). Though I guess no one really stays dead on soap operas.

So, I've been a bunch of SCIV during the break, unlocking some more gamer achievements, particularly the 100 critical finishes and the get all arms and equipment ones. I also got a bunch of the downloadable content for the game, like Vader and the extra equipment. But with more equipment, did some new builds of characters and changed around the layouts of my CASes:

Just spent a lazy day at home today, because its friggin cold out there! But I did get recording in CDEX working on my parent's laptop (apparently vista has stereo mixer hidden and disabled). Oh, and I did beat SCIV with everyone on the 360 finally. But hey, I already bought up all the equipment, now that I've beaten it with everyone I can get all their weapons, thus completing the "get all arms and equipment" gamer achievement. And while I did get me brudder [livejournal.com profile] sparkyboy a wireless adapter for his 360 as an early Christmas present, haven't actually gotten any of the SCIV goodies like Vader or the new equipment yet.

Oh, but I did come up with a new equipment set for the Innocence CAS I had made. This one is somehow skimpier, yet actually more combat effective (att/def/life are all over 100%, plus enough skill points in the right areas to get decent skills). Also hanged from the black and pink color scheme to a black and gold one:

under the cut )

Head: Headdress
Face: Spy Mask
Neck: Kitty Choker
Under: Tiger Lily Stockings
Upper: Dancer's Breastplate
Arms: Lily Armlets
Feet: Voodoo Greaves

I think it looks better. And I've gotten more familiar with Ivy's moveset, so I can actually do decently well against the computer. One cool combo that seems to work is to do f, A+B, which sets up perfectly for her back throw. I haven't been utilizing the moveset to its full potential though, because there's just so much to know, between having different moves depending on whether her weapon is in the sword, whip, or coiled state (and there are a couple of additional stances as well!)

TV commentary:

Hey, the fall finale of Prison Break was tonight:

Cool, Leverage has started up. I saw the pilot a while ago, and was hoping the show would be picked up because it seemed pretty interesting. (And the Parker chick is kinda hot, though it might be because she's also kinda nuts) Doesn't look like anything really changed between the pilot I saw and what aired, but interestingly enough, the commercial free version is the same, but the repeat shown at 1 that did have commercials had the whole hospital scene cut out, I guess to keep it under an hour.

Anyhoo, when I went up to NY for Thanksgiving, since [livejournal.com profile] sparkyboy didn't have everything unlocked on SC IV, so I spent some time unlocking stuff for him, which put me back on a SCIV kick. I was hesitant to make an Innocence CAS since she'd use Ivy's style (obviously), but unlike the other CASes I made (using Cervantes, Mitsurugi, Siegfried, and Yunsung's styles), Ivy's not a character I'm good at. But I finally did. CAS for Innocence Chained in Exquisite Torment )

But since I'm embedding videos, might as well embed a few more:

Shine On )
Saw this on filmdrunk on Friday. What I find so odd about this video, is while its trying to be a poor man's Pirates/Golden Compass/LotR kinda thing, the special F/X are way better than they should be for a music video for some no-name dude. I mean, it looks better than some of those movies they show on Sci Fi on Saturday night! (which is more a comment on how crappy those sci fi movies are, not that this video is so great)

Improbable )
(NSFW for language. I guess I only know of Lil' Jon going "Yeah" and "Okay", but I had no idea his actually rapping was so vulgar!) This is one of the weirdest mashups ever. And really messed up if you think about it. But its also kinda catchy.

Rapier Ape )
The funniest scene from the Xtacles. I'm still disappointed there's only the two eps. How is this and Frisky Dingo not as popular as the rest of the things in the Adult Swim lineup?!
geebs: (Default)
Isn't Spring Awakening a rather risque musical for a high school to do? I haven't actually seen it, but I'd heard about it. Sure, the songs sound hip, but doesn't it involve masturbation, rape, suicide, and abortion? You'd think one of those "OMG, this involves sex, we must protect the children" type parents who protest things like the David would have a cow. Or since West Beverly is full or rich brats, the parents let the kids do it because they want their kids to think their cool?

But yeah, after seeing the first half of 90210 the other day, I'll revise my statement about the grandma. I guess she is very much Lucille Bluth, only not as conniving? Some other spoilerish comments, under the cut )

Soul Calibur blather: Since all the CASs I made were chyx, thought I'd make some male ones. But I didn't want to re-use movesets, so I couldn't do a Kaz or Gladius. Settled on a Gambit, and decided to use Yun Seong's moveset. So I played Yun Seong's story mode to unlock his most powerful weapon. Now, I would to be a fool for not using him before! I wasn't a fan of Yun Seong when he first came out, I thought he was a poor replacement for Hwang. But I did not know he had "automagically win" technique in SC4.

Well, its a slight exaggeration, but I saw one of the faqs mention using his avenging claws attack (f, B, B) to fulfill the "win with a critical finish" secret requirement on some of the ascending floors. Little did I know how effective the move is, at least against opponents in the normal difficulty story mode! Just keep in spamming it (well, you may have to mix it up a little), but basically, its slow enough that the computer will try to block it, but not so slow that the normal-difficulty AI will be able to counter you too often. So they'll foolishly keep blocking the move, depleting their soul gauge pretty quick, then its soul crush and critical finish time! Even with a base Yun, first time playing him, I was able to pull of a critical finish about 5 or 6 times in story mode. Even if I don't manage the critical finish, spamming avenging claws will kill them right quick.

Since [livejournal.com profile] turdburgler had asked about it, took some pics of the CASs I had made for SC4. Like I said, wish I could have done screen captures rather than taken pics of the screen, but what can you do, eh? (And is there anything more geeky than making video game characters of characters from RPG game characters in the hangar bay of a Star Destroyer?)

cut for your benefit )

Ah, I didn't know the Dr. Horrible soundtrack just came out today. Eh, the only songs I wanted were "My Eyes", "Freeze Ray", and "Brand New Day", so I just downloaded those from Itunes. I don't get too many things off itunes, but looking at my download history, I just noticed that other than Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Freebird", the other songs are from recent musical type things- Dr. Horrible, American Mall, Rent, and the 2003 version of Jesus Christ Superstar. What in the world?

So came up with a Linaria design for SC4. I think it worked out well:

Linaria CAS formula )

Dang, I had heard the PS3 firmware update 2.5 lets you do screengrabs, which I was eggcited about so I could get pics of my designs for posterity. Alas, I thought the update from last week when I downloaded force unleashed was 2.5, but I realized that was an old update that hadn't been downloaded yet since the internet connection had been turned off ever since the GTA IV servers were down a few months ago which was interfering with the game loading up. But I had turned it back on to download the Force Unleashed demo. And it made me download the new firmware, which I thought was the latest, but I guess 2.5 is coming out eventually.

Some random comments about TV I forgot to make in my last post:

- Blair making a reference to "The Closer" was one of the weirder references I've seen on Gossip Girl. I guess its a big summer show, but still!

- Speaking of the Closer, I always find references to Provenza's crush on Brenda's mom odd. But I think this is the first time I've seen her dad realize what's up. Personally, I think Barry Corbin could kick Captain Harris' ass.

- Prison Break, under the cut because its spoilerish )

There's too much TV on Monday nights. I know I said I'd quit Prison Break, but I was bored and curious, and will prolly still catch it until other stuff starts up. But between it, Gossip Girl, OTH, the Closer, and the Middleman, that's 6 hours of TV right there!

Oh, in Soul Calibur, scrapped Mitsu and Cervantes, and using the designs when making a custom Raph. But why scrap them? Well, decided to make some custom characters- Siltrana and Angelyn have always been my go-tos. Possibly because its fun coming up with designs for them, Sil is all about creating a cool blue form-fitting Dragon Armor design, and Angie is dark angel samurai girl, so its the black feathery wings and a cool samurai outfit. But since I gave them Cervantes and Mitsurugi's fighting styles, respectively, I didn't need two characters of the same type, so I scrapped the dudes even though there were free slots still available. I'm anal like that.

And I didn't realize how in-depth the custom characters were until I started making them. So you got the usual, hairstyles, face, skin color, eye color. But when selecting their voice, you can even adjust the pitch, and now body type is adjusted on a two axis grid of physique and musculature. So you can make a skinny puke, or you can make a big overgrown mass of muscles. Amusingly enough, breast size is tied with physique, i.e. higher physique=bigger. But yeah, that's a little too much you can adjust, if you ask me. But I'm putting down the formulas for them for future reference. Maybe I'll make a Linaria as well, and give her Siegfried's style.

You know what commercial really pisses me off lately? That one with the people on the game show called "you might think Direct TV has more HD than Comcast, but you'd be wrong!" How do you frak that up? I mean, its even easier than Gold Case, because in that you have to at least look for the model struggling to hold up the briefcase. This one, the answer's in the frickin' title!

Oh, but I finally landed a critical finisher against the computer in SC4. Thrice! I've been trying to get that "do a critical finisher" honor unlocked for a while. Levels 18-20 in the ascending tower seemed like a really good place to try it. The enemies have high health and auto-impact (some with impact healing) so they turtle up a lot. So I'd been trying those set of levels over and over just wailing on them since their high health and tendency to block kept them alive long enough for me to knock their soul gauge down to nil rather than killing them. But I just couldn't get their gauge down enough in time.

I'd been taking my three best characters, the Alexandra sisters and Shura, as they're the three who I can put up a near relentless attack with. But as I said, I'd either run out of time, or end up killing the opponents before actually getting a chance to get a soul crush so as to do the critical finisher. This entails your soul gauge flashing blue, while there's is flashing red. I already had Sophie with the skill that gets her soul gauge full fast. That's when I realized the answer was so simple! Switching out the Siren's Helm for the Winged Circlet, that gave me enough gauge points to give her the soul gauge damage A skill, which does high damage to the enemy's soul gauge when they block. After that, it was just a matter of getting the girls to shred the opponents, and then have Sophie swoop in for the kill. Once they're flashing red, she just hits them with something hard hitting, like her B+K, B, or her down+B, B or what have you, then once they get soul crushed, hit all four buttons and its critical finish time!

Could I sound more geeky talking about this game? Of course, to me, fighting games are both science and art. I never did understand how people could play them and not learn the moves. Like they mash buttons with no idea what they're doing! How is that fun?! Their matches are like so ugly and based on luck rather than skill! A match between two opponents should be one of elegance and grace. It should look pretty! And I'm not talking about intricate parries and fancy footwork. It should be more than just trading blows until the other guy goes down. In this way, even big brutes can fight pretty. Rather than just weathering blows and hitting back harder and winning solely by attrition, they take some of those attacks, then when they get their opening, they unleash just one devastating combo that looks cool and wipes their opponent out. Like maybe they do something funny with the opponent as they thrash him!

Ha, I am such an idiot! The reason I was sticking with certain color schemes for the character's outfits in Soul Calibur was because some equipment had a duller color palette than others. Thus, it seemed only by doing white or black would the colors seem to match. Well, I saw toying around with the colors today, and I only now just freakin' realized you could adjust the brightness of the color palettes! So I was all egg-cited because now I could color coordinate things with different colors than I'd been using! Now the characters I made look much better now, IMO.

TV commentary:

Ha, just like I initially didn't recognize Tom as being Jake from Melrose because of the cheesy 70s mustache, I totally didn't realize Janet's possibly queer pal from work was Tobey from Dawson's Creek. HA!! I thought his voice sounded familiar, so I looked it up. I guess in addition to the mustache, his hair is totally different. I mean, even on Crossing Jordan and his really brief appearance on Angel, his hair was the same. But on Swingtown his hair is red and parted to the side.

But onto some spoiler comments: under the cut )

One thing I'll mention out of the cut. I totally glossed over the fact that Susan didn't know Roger was a Cubs fan, not a White Sox fan, but the forums were all, that's pretty bad. And thinking about it, I guess not knowing your husband's favorite sports team after 17+ years of marriage is weird. Even if you yourself aren't into sports, it seems like something one would end up knowing just by spending time with them.

Oh, saw commercials for Simon Baker's Mentalist show coming out this season. They try to act like he's something special, but isn't what he does the same thing as Monk or Shawn Spencer or that one chick detective on Lifetime or We or whatever? They are also very observant, its nothing we haven't seen on TV before. And unlike the "painfully cute mugging" of Psych, he seems rather obnoxious with his gift.
