TV commentary:

X-Files- You know, I realize the old series mixed mythos eps with case of the week eps, but when they brought it back, they really should've changed the ratio up. Like people aren't tuning in for the case of the weeks, because that was fine when X-Files was new, but its been more than a decade, there are plenty of better sci fi shows out there now. If they were going to bother bring this show back, it should be for something that matters.

SVU- Seriously, what is with the writers this season? Like the Barba thing was ridiculous. Now this ep with Carisi's niece. I know they want to cause drama, but episodes like this are dangerous. Rapes are already underreported, especially on college campuses. Particularly date rape. We don't need TV eps that reinforce the belief that "Oh, you girls shouldn't be so quick to accuse, you could ruin a boy's life!" What about the victims?! You already got dudes thinking a lot of these accusations are false, why would you have a show that helps them justify their belief.

I mean, I know there's a lot more to last night's ep than that, but its not an idea that needs to continue to be put out there. Also, Stone and Olivia? No thanks!

The Magicians- Musical ep! Not as great as I'd hoped, but not bad. I think they have people on their cast who have singing chops, I just don't think they did a good job of showcasing that. Like Under Pressure was good, but it could've been way better. ( spoiler cut )

Riverdale- Heh, since Berlanti also did the upcoming "Love, Simon" movie, we have a clunky tie in this ep! ( spoiler cut )

Lethal Weapon- I never saw the Rush Hour TV show, but from the commercials this at least looked like a better conversion. Its passable, and with nothing else on at 8pm Wednesday nights, I'll stick with it for now. ( spoiler cut )

SVU- Maybe I mis-saw things, or maybe the defense lawyer is missing some obvious opportunities, but this ep was baffling in the second half. ( spoiler cut )

Cool, my Samsung Gear VR that I got for free for pre-ordering the Samsung S7 finally came in. Actually, before it came, I was disappointed when I realized I couldn't use my s7 in it with the protective case I have for it. And I was loathe to ruin my case by taking my phone in and out of it just to use the headset. But then when I opened the box, I saw it works with the s6. So now I can just dedicate my old s6 to the gear VR!

Of course, while the headset is kinda neat, haven't really found a use for it yet. Although I was pleased to discover the Oculus video program seems to be able to play any non-DRM video I can throw at it so far. ("heh.")

Criminal Minds- Heh, it was nice to see Paget Brewster come back as Emily, and I know Shemar Moore left the show last week, but it doesn't make any sense at all for her to have a nice dinner with the old team, and them not to call Morgan! Yeah, he doesn't work there anymore, but since she's in town, that's a special enough occasion they could prolly just give him a ring and say, lets do dinner!
