Hey, its something non-TV related! Over the weekend, drove up to Hunstville with the usual suspects for C-Notes wedding. The drive was a little ominous at times, particularly when we drove through the Appalachian hills, because of the fog in the morning. Its like you look over the edge of the road and its nothing but fog, but you know there's a drop.

It was a short and sweet ceremony, albeit in Korean. The reception was interesting, there was a Korean drum line (squad? not sure what you call it) On the ride to and from the wedding, since the mini-van we rented had a DVD player, J had chosen Rounders, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and Ronin. Apparently some of them had only seen Kiss Kiss Bang Bang once (and [livejournal.com profile] phatjoe had never seen it!) I volunteered to sit shotgun since I saw those movies already and it would be weird for K to be driving with no one in the front passenger side seat and everyone in the back. But since I'd seen the latter two movies a jillion times, I knew mostly what was happening from the audio, so I could picture it in my head. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is still one of my all time favorite movies.

Had dinner at Sam's BBQ1. Hadn't been since they added the seated area. I didn't know they started offering onion petals as a side. But it was pretty good. Heh, played both iterations of the DC card game on Friday and Saturday, and got extremely lucky, trouncing everyone so bad that I think J and K were pissed. Jervis Tetch and the Mad Hatter Hat are kinda a BS combo. And its was ridiculous that on the same round I got the hat, I played a card that let me gain the top card of the deck, and it was Jervis Tetch.

Community- Okay, the end tag of the first ep killed me. spoiler cut )

Better Call Saul- Wow, what a sad ep! spoiler cut )

TV commentary:

Galavant- Totally forgot this started last night. I was a little skeptical of the show at first, even though you would think its my kinda thing, medieval fantasy/comedy musical? But I wasn't sold on the few seconds of music I had heard in the commercials. But, having watched the show, the songs sound better in their entirety.

I liked it, the songs are catchy and clever, and its pretty funny. I like Madalena (and, ooh, she's Aussie, so she's not faking the accent), not that Isabella isn't cute either. Which speaking of, apparently she was the girl who was kidnapped along with Alexis on Castle? She looks totally different!

But yeah, Lassie from Psych is the villain, Vinnie Jones is his top thug (heh, its amusing to see him in a musical comedy), and Galavant's squire is Magnitude from Community. Which, how did I not know Magnitude was British?! Or played Lee Jordan in the Harry Potter movies?!

It also surprised me. spoiler cut )

Oh weird! So back in the day, I remember hearing about this hot chick from this series of body spray commercials being in an upcoming (at the time) show on comedy central called "Not Another High School Show". It was a parody of all the teen shows at the time, with her character playing "Spring", a version of Rachel Bilson's character from "the OC." I hadn't heard anything about it since, so I figured it wasn't picked up.

Cut to today, where someone posts a clip from the pilot: (and hey, there's the aforementioned chick at the :50 second mark)

Why did they post it, because apparently Alison Brie was on it playing a buffy type character? Also, Jennifer Lawrence shows up as a random passerby at the 1:42 mark. So the site is all, look at this pilot from years ago where beloved by the internet geekdom actresses Alison Brie and Jennifer Lawrence were on.

That is so weird to see those two in something like this! But I guess plenty of famous actors and actresses do lame projects before they hit it big.

TV commentary:

Degrassi- Dang it, the eps are a week delayed on the website now. well, they were always a week delayed, but if you need the episode number, you could find it. But now they started putting random characters in the url to prevent that. Anyways, some good stuff, some bad stuff. spoiler cut )

Community- Ha, the Jeff/Annie shipper in me feels justified about this ep. spoiler cut )

Vampire Diaries- Interesting are they saying its truly over between them? spoiler cut )
geebs: (vain)
TV commentary:

Community- The GIJoe parody was awesome. And really freaking accurate! I mean, since it was drawn in the vein of GIJoe and wasn't using original footage with their stuff inserted in, I applaud them for getting the details right- the uniforms, the vehicles. They didn't do any shortcuts and just draw vehicles that look like they were from GIJoe, they drew the actual ones. The Cobras were flying trouble bubbles, rattlers, night ravens, firebats, the opening battle even had them in hurricanes. The fact that they not only drew the real things, but they actually had variety to me shows dedication to the parody.

Like the intro:

They manage to do a really good pastiche of several of the intros throughout the cartoon's history.

And that is why to me Community, is hands down a way better geek show than friggin BBT. Big Bang Theory, they make fun of nerds and geeks. Its all, "here's this nerdy thing, let's have a silly conversation about it where we act real nerdy!" Its basically, "Ha, look at what nerds these nerds are!" Community on the other had, makes clever references to geek stuff without poking fun at it.

OUAT: Wonderland- Oh, thank goodness! With them being canceled, I was worried we'd end on some unresolved cliffhanger. Though I suppose with OUAT existing, they could always wrap things up there, like X-Files did with both Millenium and the Lone Gunmen. I hear PLL is going to do that with Ravenswood.

But I digress, I suppose they knew the writing was on the wall, so they got to resolve the series nice and neat. spoiler cut )

Suits- Hmm, so Mike's chose his lot. spoiler cut )
geebs: (vain)
Ah, I can't believe TWoP is shutting down! It feels like the end of an era! I will confess though, the number of recaps I read there had been dwindling. I read them more for the snark than the actual recaps. And their PLL/Ravenswood and OUAT recaps were great, a good blend of funny without being hateful. Other shows I watch that they recap though, it went from snark to downright hate. Its like, if you despise the show that much, why are you writing about it? People poking fun is fun to read, them being negative nancies is not. Other times, its because a recapper for a particular show is just kinda boring, like the recap was not interesting at all.

Owel, I guess there's always TV.com and After Ellen. Like Price Peterson does hilarious photo recaps for TVD and Teen Wolf. And LilyRoRoSparks does the same thing for OUAT. And Heather Hogan's PLL recaps are just as enjoyable as Jacob's from TWoP. Plus her Glee-caps aren't as hateful as the TWoP ones. And Lucy Hallowell does good recaps for the Fosters, which TWoP doesn't even cover.

And while not really recaps, Warming Glow (Uproxx TV) does amusing gifs for the latest eps of The Walking Dead, Justified, Archer, Community and Parks and Rec. So, there's still entertaining TV-related websites to read after seeing the eps out there. Its still sad that TWoP is dunzo though.

Hmm, I just realized a lot of recappers (at least the ones I enjoy) are either gay men or women. Is this sort of thing not a straight male activity?

TV commentary:

Vampire Diaries- spoiler cut )

Suits- spoiler cut )

OUAT: Wonderland- So, they did say the Series Finale is next week. I just hope it ends not on a cliffhanger. Or if they do, they manage to work out some sort of closure in the normal show. I did hear that since Ravenswood was canceled, they were going to wrap things up on PLL. spoiler cut )

TV commentary:

Community- Woah, lots of guest stars tonight, Nathan Fillion, Paget Brewster, Robert Patrick. And also, Katie Leclerc from Switched at Birth, playing a deaf girl again. Which I was all, what's with them having her playing all these deaf girls when she's not deaf? Only, I assumed she wasn't deaf because she talked all normal behind the scenes of Switched at Birth. But it turns out she does having a disease that does give her some hearing loss. So I feel foolish!

Also, it reminded me of RJ Mitte, who had a milder case of cerebral palsy than his character had. And amusingly enough, I just found out he's actually on Switched at Birth currently, I think possibly as her new love interest.

Hmm, does NBC not like Parks and Rec? All the eps for the next few weeks being pre-empted until 11/14 and 11/21. cliffv('What's up with that?!')

So they're not showing this week's ep because of the Voice's "Battle Rounds" this week going over, forcing it to spill over into this Thursday. Then next week, instead of showing Park and Rec's Halloween ep, they're pre-empting for some stupid SNL Halloween special? THEN, the week after that, they were going to originally preempt the crappy Michael J Fox show and Sean Saves the World show for another Voice thing, but they decided to preempt Parks and Rec instead. bbv('This is total BS!')

Parks and Rec is by far NBC's best sitcom, though I guess it doesn't have great ratings because people are effin stupid and would rather watch BBT? Though at the same time, is it that NBC is taking it for granted and all, "Eh, people will still watch it whenever the hell we put it on", so they choose to preempt it instead of that new crap because they're hoping people will watch their new crap?

Of course, I'm acting all indignant, when I don't even watch it live myself- I mean, there's Vampire Diaries at 8pm, Glee at 9pm, and then 10pm is Elementary. Not that I'm anywhere as big a fan of Elementary as I am the first two, its just [livejournal.com profile] clevemire also watches Elementary so that's what's on the telly at 10pm. Like if I had to rate my current top 10 hour long dramas that are still on that I watch (thus, Breaking Bad is absent because it just ended) it would be: (not necessarily in this order)

1) The Vampire Diaries
2) Glee
3) Pretty Little Liars
4) Game of Thrones
5) Once Upon a Time
6) Person of Interest
7) Doctor Who
8) The Originals
9) Arrow
10) The Walking Dead

(the Fosters and Agents of SHIELD just barely miss being in the top 10) Like if I slipped into a coma, got kidnapped by aliens, fell into a dimensional rift, or what have you and missed like this entire fall and spring TV season, these are the ten (12) hour long dramas I would catch up on first. Agents of SHIELD just hasn't grabbed me yet, like its fine, but not to the point where my anticipation is to the level the actual top ten shows are. Of course, it prolly also gets a boost in my eyes because of the Whedon connection and its Marvel. Like Marvel >> DC in terms of the actual comics, and definitely at the box office. But I think DC's been doing a better job on TV. Maybe its because the show is really new and hasn't hit it stride. Or maybe because they're not willing to explore their properties as heavily as DC is on Arrow (and back when it was still on, Smallville) Which could be because DC doesn't give an eff since they're getting their ass kicked movie wise (save for Batman), so its like they just have everyone (except Batman) show up. But since Marvel actually is making lots of bank in the theaters, they're more hesitant to use this person or that when they can introduce them in a movie and make more $ out of it. Which is disappointing, because if I'm watching a Marvel/DC show, I want to see people I know show up!

Oh, and truthfully, the Originals makes it into the Top 10 because I like the characters, its basically just an extra hour of TVD, so honestly, I should just wrap it up with TVD and bump up one of the other shows to top ten status.

Half hour sitcoms would be of course:

1) Parks and Rec
2) Its Always Sunny
3) Archer
4) HIMYM
5) Community
6) Modern Family
7) The League
8) Cougar Town
9) Brooklyn Nine-Nine
10) Wilfred

I'd put Venture Brothers on there, but it doesn't come back until 20-friggin-15.

But I digress, I don't get to see Parks and Rec until 11pm or the next day. Which makes me kinda a hypocrite to complain.

Huh, so after hearing that one Marina and the Diamonds song during the Delena blood sharing scene in last night's TVD ep, I finally got around to listening to some of her stuff. I actually like her latest album, so I just downloaded it off itunes.

Also, the Community cast tweeted this vid about the Oct 19 fiasco and them not actually premiering tonight:

Wait, was that thing at the end an Animal Hospital joke? Was that Annie's Boobs in that?!

So, Warming Glow has the 10 Toughest 'Annie Vs Britta' Dilemmas on TV list. My thoughts on some of their decisions can be summed up thusly:

Anyways, here's the breakdown:

1) Betty Draper vs Megan Draper, Mad Men- They chose Megan Draper. Eh, I don't watch the show, and I can't decide between January Jones and Jessica Pare, so their choice is fine with me.

2) Daenerys Targaryen vs Margaery Tyrell, Game of Thrones- They pick Dani, which is what I who I would've picked, so no beef there.

3) Jenny vs Shiva, The League- Their choice? Shiva. Hey, I like Janine Gavankar and all, but whatever, Jenny's awesome.

4) Rose vs Amy, Doctor Who- They rightly pick Amy, because who are we kidding? Whoever says Amelia Pond is not the hottest Doctor Who companion is insane.

5) Alex vs Penny vs Jane, Happy Endings- I can see why they chose Alex, because hey, Elisha Cuthbert. They all have their pros, and maybe its the Eliza Coupe awesomeness influencing my decision here, but I'd go with Jane.

6) Lana vs Cheryl, Archer- Heh, they chose Pam. Pam is hilariously awesome, but c'mon how hot is Cheryl with her total effed up ness?

7) Ava vs Winona, Justified- Their choice was Ava, and I'm going to have to agree!

8) Jess vs Cece, New Girl- Cece is their pick. I dunno, you'd think I'd choose Jess, because she's got the neurotic, blue-eyed, brunette thing going, but I guess I might actually go with Cece. Jess is just a little too quirky.

9) Bill vs Eric, True Blood- Bill Compton?! Not to sound gay or nothing, but Eric is the obvious choice. (Speaking of vampires, I would also say Damon is better than Stefan)

10) Annie vs Britta, Community- Friggin' Britta!? Gillian Jacobs is hot and all, but who the hell would choose Britta over Annie?! Maybe its just me, but I prefer neurotic, blue eyed brunettes over pretentious artsy vegans. I actually don't recall if Britta is artsy or a vegan, but she seems like the type, because Britta is the worst.
geebs: (Default)
Man, this Chik-Fil-a thing is annoying! I mean, the gay marriage thing is like the only political issue I've ever actually given a crap about. Well, in that its the only time I've ever voted on anything in my entire life. So where are my convictions if I continue to frequent Chik-Fil-a?

Now, I'm only a frequent customer (I'm the mayor of the Student Center Chik-Fil-a on foursquare!) solely because they effin' closed Junior's, as its the next most convenient place to get a sausage egg and cheese biscuit with sweet tea to go. Even getting spicy chicken sandwiches there for lunch, that's only when I didn't bring lunch that day and I'm not in the mood for Subway or Taco Bell or sushi or hot dogs or am too lazy to walk to Tech Square. Like, I would never go to one outside of campus, because frankly other than the spicy chicken samich, I'm not actually a fan of their stuff (sausage, egg, and cheese biscuits don't count, everyone has those). I hate non-breaded chicken samiches, and honestly, I never saw what the big deal was about their nuggets.

And the people who work at the student center Chik-Fil-A, why should I penalize them because the guy who owns the company has a different opinion than me? They even know me well enough that when they see me coming across the way, by the time I reach them, they have my biscuit and tea in hand and have it rung up, so I'm in and out of there way quick. They treat me well! Honestly part of me is, I don't know this friggin guy (see, I don't even know his name, he's just that Chik-Fil-A guy to me), and his opinion means jack to me, so why should he affect my food buying habits at all?

Interestingly enough, though the Tech Square waffle house is a farther walk, their sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit is fresher, their cup of tea bigger, and its all $.22 less. So why not go there instead regardless?

Albums I bought this week:

"Gossamer", Passion Pit- this came out this week. Its okay, though I don't think its as good as "Manners".

"Camp", Childish Gambino- this actually came out last year, but I saw the new video for "Fire Fly" and liked what I heard, so I checked out the rest of the album and really loved the beats. So its not a weird Community fan boy thing, I legitimately would like the album if Donald Glover was just Childish Gambino and Community didn't exist. As I said, the beats were tight. And I get his stories, they speak to me. Well, not in that we had a similar life experience, far from it. But his stuff is more relatable than the usual rap fair. Not sure how much of what he raps about is actually true, but its at least something I can see where he's coming from.
geebs: (Default)
So, this is slightly early, since last year's list was posted only 9 months ago, according to the time stamps on LJ and tumblr. But I think I made the comment that when I released that list, it wasn't an ideal time. May-July is a good time, because one has had several months to ruminate on the hotness of TV actresses as you have a whole TV season to go by, and all the hotties in the upcoming summer movies have most likely been getting a push for the past couple of months as well. Its too hard to come up with a top 100, so screw it, I'm limiting it to a top 25 for 2012: (links go to their chickapedia entries)

1) Odette Annable- honestly, I just feel she would be the result if Megan Fox and Jessica Alba had a love child (and who wouldn't want to see them try and do that)

2) Nina Dobrev- she's got a really cute face and a smoking hot body. Nuff said.

3) Karen Gillan- One of the hottest (if not the hottest) redheads on the planet. The hot Scottish accent is just gravy. No offense to Christina Hendricks (who is still in my top 25), but my tastes still tend towards the petite.

Yeah, I know, the same top 3 as last year, only slightly reordered. But at least the rest of the list, there are people who weren't on here last year, and some significant movement on some of the ladies (up and down).

4) Katrina Bowden- She was voted Esquire's sexiest woman alive for 2011, and with good reason!

5) Emma Stone- Granted, her making it into the top 5 may have been heavily Spiderman influenced, but like I said, I really liked her look in this. The only thing that would make it perfect would be if she had glasses. And maybe the red hair.

6) Ashley Greene- I think I made this comment last time as well, but has she done anything besides the Twilight movies? I mean, I've seen most of the first, and maybe the last half of the third, but I haven't actually seen her all that much in stuff. Other than photo shoots I guess.

7) Alison Brie- You know my penchant for blue eyed brunettes (although is it really a penchant if she's the only one in the top 10? Olivia Wilde doesn't count because she's actually a natural blond) All the "bouncy" gifs help. And the fact she sings. And plays a neurotic brunette on TV and is part of one of my current favorite TV ships.

8) Naya Rivera- Lesbians apparently dig her (if her being #1 on the AfterEllen Hot 100 list is any indication), and so do I.

9) Olivia Wilde- Seriously, she has just got the tightest little body on her.

10) Victoria Justice- She's really coming into her hotness after turning legal last year.

11) Kate Beckinsale- Heh, you know, I think she may be the oldest chick on this list.

12) Amy Acker- I'm still curious why she's not more famous. She's a good actress, and like super pretty. I mean, she gets consistent work on TV and was recently in the Cabin in the Woods, but she was prolly only in that because of Whedon.

13) Evangeline Lilly- Its disappointing she's not in more stuff being all hot.

14) Leighton Meester- Again, hot neurotic brunette on a TV show I like. Or used to like, I'm still angry over that Dair stuff. But I digress, she has the doe-iest doe eyes.

15) Dianna Agron- The short hair was good on her this year. Especially when it was dyed pink.

16) Anna Kendrick- I just find her everyday cute. The singing helps, and you know I'm seeing Pitch Perfect in the theater. And buying the soundtrack.

17) Sarah Shahi- It took Fairly Legal to remind me how hott she is.

18) Aimee Teegarden- You know, I haven't actually seen her in anything since FNL, unless you count commercials for movies. I just think she's a pretty girl.

19) Anna Silk- Hey, she was a pretty good casting choice to play a hot succubus.

20) Mila Kunis- She's cool as hell, and hot to boot. Just gorgeous and funny.

21) Jessica Biel- I've said it before, but the Total Recall remake already has one thing going for it, it has hotter chicks in the female roles, between Jessica and Kate Beckinsale.

22) Krysten Ritter- I've actually found her strangely attractive since Veronica Mars, but she looks good in Don't Trust the B.

23) Christina Hendricks- The epitome of the voluptuous bombshell, I think.

24) Vanessa Hudgens- She was notably absent from last year's list (I have my reasons), but she's back on after prancing around in all those tiny bikinis for Spring Breakers.

25) Emma Watson- Whatever, Hermione is hot. I also like her pixie-ish do in the upcoming "The Perks of Being a Wallflower". And how slutty she looks in the upcoming "Bling Ring". (I did make two photosets of it on tumblr)

Some of you may be wondering, why aren't X or Y on here, because it does seem like there are some notable omissions. And there are superficial reasons for the exclusion of some chicks, which whatever, this is a list of my top 25 favorite celeb hotties, its supposed to be superficial. Like I've actually been slowly getting turned off Megan Fox for a while now, and BAG knocking her up sealed it. And Anne Hathaway does look hot as Catwoman, but then she hacked off all her hair for Les Miserables.
geebs: (Default)
As if I couldn't like Alison Brie anymore, she sings Hall and Oates in short dresses with other hot chyx:

The Girls, of Alison Brie and the Girls being Cyrina Fiallo and the lusciously-meloned Julianna Guill. (I wonder if they got their guest spots on Community because of Alison?) I guess she also shows her co-star Donald Glover some love by doing Childish Gambino's "These Girls":

with Alison singing lead and Julianna and Cyrina doing the Garfunkel and Oates parts.

TV commentary:

Fairly Legal- Kate and Ben, hey, I think I like it.

In Plain Sight- Huh, I'm a little surprised at the ending. spoiler cut )
geebs: (Default)
TV commentary:

Community- Holy cow, tonight's L&O spoof was friggin' brilliant! Also, lawyer Annie and techie Britta were both pretty hot. spoiler cut )

Vampire Diaries- Speaking of hot chyx, Elena, Caroline, and Bonnie looked way hot as flapper girls. Elena, especially, I loved her hair in this! And that dress! The 1920s was a good choice for the decades dance! So the beginning of this ep doesn't do anything to dispel the idea of the Original siblings being a little too close, if you know what I mean. Although the fact Esther knows that's the way to play Klaus while pretending to be the Bekster makes it even creepier.

Random videos with hotties:

-That Nike "I Will Run to You" commercial (which it won't let me embed on lj). The commercial is cute, and so is the girl in this! Ahd hey, she was a recent WITHAG.

-A fan-film for a fake "Hollywood"-updated movie version of Pac Man:

Here, "Sue" is a mad cute "hacker-grrl" with tattoos and stripes in her hair. spcv('Nice!')

TV commentary:

Community- Heh, so are they going forward with Troy/Britta now? And its odd that they acted like Jeff was Annie's "Blade", but his speech at the end made it sound like they've actually made progress in their relationship as opposed to him being all bad and wrong for her.

The Office- Why in the world did Erin think the first time Andy broke up with Jessica "went horribly"? He interrupts her while she's in the middle of a bachelorette party with all her friends, and comes up with that lame "Oh, I'm actually gay!" excuse and she basically accepts that and she and her friends don't string him up? That went almost as well as it could!
