Better Call Saul- Some interesting call backs here. spoiler cut )

Hey, its something non-TV related! Over the weekend, drove up to Hunstville with the usual suspects for C-Notes wedding. The drive was a little ominous at times, particularly when we drove through the Appalachian hills, because of the fog in the morning. Its like you look over the edge of the road and its nothing but fog, but you know there's a drop.

It was a short and sweet ceremony, albeit in Korean. The reception was interesting, there was a Korean drum line (squad? not sure what you call it) On the ride to and from the wedding, since the mini-van we rented had a DVD player, J had chosen Rounders, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and Ronin. Apparently some of them had only seen Kiss Kiss Bang Bang once (and [livejournal.com profile] phatjoe had never seen it!) I volunteered to sit shotgun since I saw those movies already and it would be weird for K to be driving with no one in the front passenger side seat and everyone in the back. But since I'd seen the latter two movies a jillion times, I knew mostly what was happening from the audio, so I could picture it in my head. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is still one of my all time favorite movies.

Had dinner at Sam's BBQ1. Hadn't been since they added the seated area. I didn't know they started offering onion petals as a side. But it was pretty good. Heh, played both iterations of the DC card game on Friday and Saturday, and got extremely lucky, trouncing everyone so bad that I think J and K were pissed. Jervis Tetch and the Mad Hatter Hat are kinda a BS combo. And its was ridiculous that on the same round I got the hat, I played a card that let me gain the top card of the deck, and it was Jervis Tetch.

Community- Woah, lots of guest stars tonight, Nathan Fillion, Paget Brewster, Robert Patrick. And also, Katie Leclerc from Switched at Birth, playing a deaf girl again. Which I was all, what's with them having her playing all these deaf girls when she's not deaf? Only, I assumed she wasn't deaf because she talked all normal behind the scenes of Switched at Birth. But it turns out she does having a disease that does give her some hearing loss. So I feel foolish!

Also, it reminded me of RJ Mitte, who had a milder case of cerebral palsy than his character had. And amusingly enough, I just found out he's actually on Switched at Birth currently, I think possibly as her new love interest.

ME blather- As I said in a previous post, slowly mopping up random challenges- at the very least, I'm trying to complete the challenges for each power under the tech and biotic masteries. Which entails playing characters I'd never played before- the base human engineer and adept to get combat drone (which was the last thing I needed under tech mastery), singularity and shockwave. Also made an asari adept since she also has stasis. Like I had been using the vanguard, but it was slow detonating biotic explosions on stasis-ed enemies with charge and lift grenades. Since the adept had warp and throw, that worked much better for completing the stasis challenge.

Currently working on lash with the phoenix adept. After that though, that just leaves pull and biotic orbs. I refuse to play a volus just for the latter, and pull is such a lousy power. But yeah, like I said, I guess I've definitely gotten better at this game since I can extract with just about any character now. Like a few months ago, I thought there were only a couple of characters I could ever succeed with, and playing the rest is a pipe dream. But I know the ins and outs now.

In any case, I'm at 501 in the US, so I'm almost there. Still only 1143 in the world.

Breaking Bad- Series finale. A nice, succinct end. spoiler cut )

ME blather- One more match away from completing the drell assassin challenge, and then I just need to do the drell vanguard to get Outsider mastery. Playing with the drell assassin, I've definitely gotten better with the sniper rifle in this game. I mean, I did play an infiltrator in the normal game, and sniping has always been my bag, but as I've said before, hadn't really delved into sniping too much in mp. Before, there just seemed to be so many enemies on me since I'm playing solo that its hard to get some breathing room to make precise shots often. However, I have since gotten better at the game so its not as big an issue.

So the ex-roomie got GTA V, and said I would prolly enjoy it. I asked him if its because one of the characters has a hot teenage daughter, but he actually said it was because of the combat. He said combat has been vastly improved. I had heard such things in the review, that it basically plays like Max Payne 3. Not that I've played Max Payne 3. But I'm sure all this ME3 MP has made me better at third person shooters. I may try it at some point. The main reason I've been playing so much ME3 MP is because I want to get as much in of it as I can- even when I play solo, its being played on EA's servers. So once they shut that down, I can never play again, because there's no offline mp mode. I mean, it'll hopefully prolly be a while before they stop supporting the game, but I'd rather do all I need to do while its still available.

But I digress, I'm glad combat works better in this latest one. Of course, combat was never a problem for me in the game, it was the driving.

Breaking Bad- Effin' Landry and the nazis, man! spoiler cut )

TV commentary:

Breaking Bad- One last bit of commentary on the ep- mainly, are people who are watching this show even watching this show? I mean, I guess I shouldn't be surprised some people don't grasp the subtleties of the plot, given how many people still don't understand things like the narrative of Pulp Fiction. (The scenes aren't in chronological order, how hard is that to frickin' understand?!) But still. spoiler cut )

Elementary- Seriously, if you're going to be a writer of a crime procedural, how hard is it to get a consultant or at the very least google to see if you know what the eff you're talking about in terms of guns. I mean, obviously, the investigators are going to encounter guns, so since its gonna come up a bunch, they could try to get something close to right. So I was watching an ep that the ex-roomie hadn't seen. And this one guy's car was shot up by an MP-5. Only first, the captain does the effin, "it was a semi-automatic!" even though the gun was firing bursts, mixing up semi-auto with auto. Seriously, even if you don't know guns, do you friggin understand prefixes! But like it happens enough it's excusable. I sometimes wonder if they purposely do that because semi-automatic is a longer word than automatic and make its sound more complex?

What really annoyed me was Sherlock being all, "these holes were made by a rifled barrel, not a smoothbore, so they must've modified that MP-5!" Hey, genius, all effin modern small arms that are not shotguns have rifled barrels! So no, no one would have had to do any friggin modifications on a firearm to give it a rifled barrel, it already has one. This one, I can't excuse because its an unnecessary detail that has no bearing on the case that is just utterly wrong.

ME blather- Finished up Resurgence mastery with the geth engineer and infiltrator. Like I said, I guess I am getting better at the game. In my previous posts, I said I was a little skeptical about being able to do the extracts given the squishiness of the geth. But I've gotten pretty good with both characters. For the engineer, I've learned how to use the turret better- same with the QFE. I had specced the sentry and geth turrets out initially, because I preferred more direct damage dealing. But yeah, they make for good protection during the devices objective. (especially the geth one, since it replenishes shields) Plus they're good for flanking, particularly since I play solo.

As for the GI, it really is one of the best kits. I mean, playing solo, I don't think it would be wise to use the Javelin like many GI players do since its so slow firing. But any AR will do with it. Basically, just cloak, pop out a proximity mine at a group directly and when it explodes, since it set to "damage taken" it weakens them in addition to the blast damage. But yeah, since you should use it more like a grenade than a mine, it should blow up while you're still cloaked, meaning you get the cloak damage bonus also. And since the cloak damage bonus extends a few seconds after breaking cloak, you just shoot down the straggles with a good AR. It works wonders against boss units.

I dunno, I think the GI and the TGI are considered two of the top tier kits. The GI is prolly better, but I do feel a sense of risk since its a glass cannon- Geth have low health, and then hunter mode halves their shields. But hunter mode does speed you up. So between hunter mode and tactical cloak, you're doing a lot of hit and run. Because you don't want to get hit. TGI though, it has the stimpacks. Which I use for defense rather than offense. The attack power boost is useful, but you're already playing an Infiltrator. More useful is the fact that it insta restore shields. So if you're in trouble just pop a stim. Plus TGI has overload to get rid of shields, it can handle anything.

Still have Rebellion mastery left under the Aliens tab- like I said, still deciding whether I should continue with the phoenix vanguard, since I only need to do 8 with it. Or I could do the Quarian Infiltrator- its 10 extracts, but its with either the male or female. I had heard sabotage makes QFI vs geth easy since you can turn the geth on each other, but I haven't gotten the hang of it. Although I just realized the QMI is basically just like the engineer, but with cloak instead of incinerate. Which, I might do that instead since I can just spam arc grenades.

Breaking Bad- Eh, decided to start this up in time for the second half of the final season next month. Its pretty good, the only thing its lacking is nubile hot chyx. Walter couldn't have like a hot teenage daughter? And no offense to his handicapped son, but like he could land some hot gf! I mean, I did hear Jesse starts dating Krysten Ritter in the second season.

But yeah, its interesting to see how a situation affects a man. spoiler cut )
