So randomly web surfing, I discovered the voice actress for Gaige in Borderlands/Lucy in Fairy Tail is actually pretty cute. But then I found this vid:

which I did not realize until halfway through that she was acting out Rachel scenes from Glee, which gets kudos in my book. (Though -1 point for saying NYADA wrong)

TV commentary:

Scream Queens- You know, I really wanted to hate this show, so I could discount it and move on, since I watch enough TV. (though I don't think its drawing the numbers Fox wants, so I'm guessing it won't last beyond the season) But the show can be pretty hilarious at times. Like some of the things are so over the top you can't help but crack up. Truthfully, I think it has an advantage over Glee in this respect. The problem with Glee was it had this same over the top humor at times, but at the same time, it wanted to be poignant and address serious issues. And I think the radical tonal shifts are what killed it.

But Scream Queens isn't the type of show to have very special episodes, so it can just be outrageous. People know what they're getting into, and won't get upset when it shifts from Burt giving a caring speech to his son to Sue freaking trapping Kurt and Blaine in an elevator with a Saw-puppet version of herself on a tricycle threatening to not let them out until they kiss. For god's sake, they had a very special ep about how Kitty had been molested at a sleep over when she was younger, and how no one believed her, and it ruined her life and she had to change schools and hide her past, but then in a different ep, make a joke about how Britney's first time was with someone who just crawled into her tent at cheerleader camp and she just had to let it happen. And its like... did they just gloss over her getting molested and play it off as a side joke?

But I digress, since Scream Queens is what it is, it can have ridiculous situations and just be dumb and funny. I can't remember if I posted about this last time, but I'm still too lazy to check because the Fox player sucks and the pilot was already erased off the DVR, but does the pin Grace carries that belonged to her mom, was it on Rose from Hart of Dixie when she died or is it not even hers at all? I feel like I may be missing a vital clue, especially since Grace thinks the killer is Chad and she went to do research with Pete to see if he could be the child? I mean, timeline wise, it does seem like Grace isn't old enough to be Rose's baby since she's an incoming freshman, and that the kid should be Chad's age. But I'm not sure if we the audience are supposed to know its wrong because she's the one with the pin.

Heh, other stuff, as I've said before, I do have a thing for Princess Leia's daughter on this, but maybe that's just my earmuff fetish. (Like really, if you were trying to use sexpionage to get like secrets or something out of me, and were trying to figure out how the girl should dress, it would involve like ear muffs, a varsity jacket, and knee high boots) Also, I'm amused that they've been really committing to the joke with just having her wear the earmuffs all the time. Its like, we get it, she's Carrie Fisher's daughter. It was also weird to hear girl from Little Miss Sunshine all grown up and talking about getting double teamed. But hey, it was nice to see "Predatory Lez" was less of a caricature this ep.

Also, I love the soundtrack on this show. Like I'll never not crack up when a show uses Bone Thugs-n-Harmony's "Crossroads". But yeah, they've been playing a lot of recognizable hits these first three eps, I wonder how big their music budget is?

So After Ellen has their Hot 100 list out, and I guess like the previous one (well, the 2013 one, they didn't have a list in 2014) I actually do know the Top 10:

10) K-Stew
9) Elise Bauman
8) T-Mas
7) Evelyne Brochu
6) Laura Prepon
5) Natasha Negovanlis
4) Lana Parilla
3) Shay Mitchell
2) Alycia Debnam Carey
1) Ruby Rose

Its interesting how show-dependent their lists end up being. No Lost Girl or Glee chyx in the top 10 this year, but they do have representatives from Orphan Black, OITNB, PLL, OUAT, and the 100.
geebs: (vain)
I think I mentioned hearing about the "Cruel Intentions: Unofficial Musical Parody" with Karma from Faking It as Kathryn? Although apparently she alternates the role with Lindsay Pearce from the Glee Project, and apparently Mona from PLL takes over the role for a week pretty soon. I guess Cecile is being played by Ashley from Pitch Perfect? That's cool too.

Interesting, Lindsay and Janel were also both in the Spring Awakening Revival, so do musicals in LA actually star people I recognize from TV? Like when NPH did Rent at the Hollywood Bowl, it had Aaron Tevit as Roger and Vanessa Hudgens as Mimi, Skylar Astin as Mark, Nicole Scherzinger as Maureen, Tracie Thoms reprising the Joanne role (at least the movie version), Wayne Brady as Tom Collins and Telly Leung (Asian Warbler Wes on Glee).

But I digress, apparently the CI musical soundtrack is a mix of some songs from the original soundtrack, like "Every You Every Me" by Placebo and the Verve's "Bittersweet Symphony" as well as the Cardigans song from the scene in the pool house, and Six Pence None the Richer's version of "Kiss Me". Which dang, I wish shows like this would be in a town I live, or at least one I regularly visit, like NYC.

Heh, you know, people talk about what they would do if they had a ton of money. Like I have no interest in traveling the world, but it would be cool to just hop on a plane any time to like fly to LA or NYC to see some musical that piques my interest.

Glee- Series finale! It feels like the end of an era, its definitely sad to see this show go. After last week's ep and given the first hour was a flashback and the final hour was a flash forward, its disappointing we didn't get more time with the new newbies. They were fun and I think there was more that could've been done with them. In any case, waiting for Fox to release the performances on youtube before I make my final gleecap.

Anyways, sometimes it annoys me that people are always whining and bitching about the most inconsequential things on the internet. I mean, I'm guilty of it too. And I get it, the internet is a medium that just sits there and lets you pour out all you shit into it without interrupting and making it about itself or bitching back. (and I mean internet as in the concept, not people on the actual internet, because if you have comments turned on, then people do sometimes bitch back) And there's nothing wrong with complaining about your life, sometimes you need to get that stuff out somehow or you'll go crazy.

But for inconsequential things like video games and TV, it gets frustrating that people are never satisfied. Like MK finally revealed the brutalties they said were returning in the upcoming MK X:

I think they're cool, kinda like mini-fatalities you can do to finish an opponent off if you fulfill certain conditions. Like normally when you knock their life bar to empty, you get the whole "Finish Him/Her!" thing and then you have to input a sequence to activate your fatality. This, its like a quick auto fatality you can do before they're actually dead, I'm assuming if the combo would've emptied their life bar.

But people bitched about it, like I guess they were expecting something more like ultra combos from killer instinct, where its just a hundred/thousand hit combination of blows that kills the opponent. Yeah, I remember those from the previous mortal kombats, and they looked kinda goofy because it was just a bunch of normal moves in rapid succession that caused the opponent to explode nonsensically. Particularly with the limited amount of animation of the characters in the old games (compared to something like SF or VF or Tekken) I'm sure if they just did the "fast-forwarded auto combo" people would've still bitched and moaned about it being uninteresting.

I do like Kung Lao's brutality. He bends him over his knee and does that Wing Chun straight punch flurry Donnie Yen does in Ip Man, followed by some wild wide hook punches. It looks pretty neat.

But yeah, then yesterday, they had the new story trailer:

So in addition to a few more returning favorites, we have many new characters. There's Erron Black from the new tie in comic (a wild west looking gunslinger, sounds cool), and joining Cassie Cage are Jax's daughter, Kenshi's son, and Kung Lao's descendant. So, a small minority complained all, "Who are these new people, bring back the old characters!" Of course, when they were doing the previous character reveals and revealing returning characters like Kung Lao, Kitana, Reptile and Ermac, people bitched all, "Ugh, what's with all the old characters, give us something new!"

Its like G-D, are you people ever effin satisfied?! I think they did a good job so far of balancing old and new characters. And please, like the old characters won't be available as DLC later?!

So this week's Glee songs are out:

You Give Love a Bad Name- The Bon Jovi classic as done by Clint and Vocal Adrenaline. Finally, I think this is the first song of their's this season that is worthy of the previous seasons' Vocal Adrenaline performances.

Same Love- (can't find a link) by Macklemore and Mary Lambert, performed here by Schu and Unique. Heh, I think people are kinda upset that its Will doing the rap part. I do like the end though, the way they do the "love is patient, love is kind" part

All About That Bass- Mercedes and Roderick doing the Meghan Trainor hit. No surprise there that they picked those two to sing it. I think they do a good job.

Somebody Loves You- The Betty Who hit as done by Klaine. Its always been a fun song and I think they do it well.

Time After Time- Samchel duet of the Cyndi Lauper song. Wait, they hadn't done this song previously? Its a nice duet.

I know Where I've Been- (can't find a link) from Hairspray and done by Unique. Its fine, I wonder if Unique is transfering back to Mckinley and joining ND, or if this is just temporary?

TV commentary:

Glee- Pretty good ep tonight, particularly for Brittana fans though. Looking through tumblr during the show, I think part of the reason the show's popularity declined is the fanbase is so divided. There's so many characters that people love- even though the show is in decline, its no surprise its the biggest category in the TV section of ff.net (Supernatural is catching up though, but its still behind by 3000!). People still write stories about the characters long after they've stopped watching the show. But, I think for everyone that loves a particular character, there's one that loathes them.

Like last night, as I said, I thought it was a great ep. But jeez, reading these posts, the fandom is all over the place. You have the Brittana fans cheering throughout, and Klainers all, "Ugh, fast forward" and "Of course Brittana always gets the screen time, when is it going to be our turn?" Um, last week, when the ep was full of Klaine and no Brittana, where you had the above comments reversed, and it was the Brittana's fans claiming they get nothing and are treated like shit compared to Klainers. Its like the fans that are still around are so damn needy. Can't you guys share the show with the other fans? It can't be your favs all the time.

Not to mention the wide spectrum of feelings for each character. Like you have people being all, "Yes, Rachel, flawless!" and "I love when Blaine plays the piano" and others being all, "Fuck that bitch, ha ha, you got what you deserved!" and "Ugh, of course its the Rachel and Blaine show". Its like, yes, they get a lot of songs, but they don't monopolize the time as much as people think. Rachel is either a sweetheart who deserves love, or a self centered bitch who needs a comeuppance. Or Santana and Brittany. You have the lesbians loving the representation, but then there's those few who just can't get over Santana being a bully and a bitch sometimes. Or feel Brittany's goofiness is stupid and unwatchable. And I think one of the ways the show failed is that it catered to everyone, and that just pissed everyone off because they didn't feel they got enough representation, and the characters they hated got too much. Which is BS.

But I've ranted enough, on to the actual ep. Its a Burt Bacarach special! spoiler cut )

TV commentary:

Glee- Since I didn't get to post and the review the performances from last night's ep, I'll do it now that they're on youtube. First the Warbler performance:

My Sharona

You Spin Me Round (Like a Record):

I think it was sung fine, but like last week's VA performance, their set was kinda boring. So, its no surprise ND beat them.

As I've said before, the competition eps are my favorite, because since they're actually competing instead of having some fantasy number after randomly bursting into song, I think the performances are better. I don't know if they tried harder with the new newbies, or the new newbies were really that much better than the old newbies, but I really enjoyed their set in this. Like honestly, I can't even remember the set lists for sectionals and regionals last time. I think regionals was "Gangnam Style", and just it, which was terrible and pandering since it was popular at the time.

It Must've Been Love

Kitty and Spencer on lead. As I said earlier this week, it didn't feel like a real duet since they were just singing at the same time for most of it instead of switching back and forth. Eh, I wasn't too thrilled that they kept cutting back to Klaine. I mean, I don't have anything against Klaine, and if it were any other context, like that song was playing in the background in a prom ep or something, it would work great, because they did time the kiss to the climax of the song. But, since it was a competition ep, I would have preferred they stuck to the stage.

Father Figure

Roderick on lead. As I said earlier this week, slightly inappropriate for a HS competition, but boy can sing. Again, weird that they cut to Sue being sad over the previous Republican presidential losses of the last 20 or so years, but I guess the point of the set list was songs she feels emotional over, and I guess that's why the song got to her, because she saw them as father figures or some such crap? Again, would've preferred just the performance.

All Out of Love

Mccarthy Twins duet. As I said earlier, kinda weird to have a brother/sister duet on this. At least the full performance had Jane. But she was cut from this. Which is kinda messed up since she's the one non-white person on the team. Like even Spencer and Kitty, who just joined got their own song. But they do it well. And I like Madison, she's cute.

Hart of Dixie- This was a funny ep. spoiler cut )

Glee- Good ep! spoiler cut )
geebs: (vain)
It's Tuesday, so the music for this Friday's ep of Glee is out. I really like the selection, I think its the first time this season where its all songs I like. I guess the songs are solely the Warblers and ND's set lists for the Invitational?

You Spin Me Round (Like a Record)- The Dead or Alive song, sung by the Warblers. Are they ripping off the Treblemakers from Pitch Perfect? I mean, I guess the Treblemakers actually did Flo Rida's "Right Round", which samples this song, but its basically the same chorus.

My Sharona- The other song from the Warblers' set list. I swear it sounds like there are girls singing on this, on the chorus.

All Out of Love- Air Supply!!!!! Its being done by the Mccarthy Twins and Jane. Initially I thought it was just going to be a duet between Mason and Madison, which would be a little weird for a brother and sister to be singing this to each other. But if Jane wasn't on this, then she wouldn't have any songs, which would be kinda BS. Heh, this is the second time Jane and Mason are singing together, and if they did start focusing on the newbies, I would like to see this explored, like something going on between Jane and Mason and Madison feeling totes jealous because her twin's spending more time with someone else.

Speaking of the twins, people keep comparing them to Ryan and Sharpay, and while Mason is kinda gay seeming, Madison doesn't seem at all like Sharpay, since she's weird and adorkable. Well, Sharpay is kinda weird and adorkable, albeit in a different way. Maybe its more Madison seems like a sweetie, but Sharpay can be mean and cutthroat?

Father Figure- Roderick doing the George Michael classic. Sounds pretty good, though isn't this song totally inappropriate for a HS show choir competition?

It Must Have Been Love- Roxette, as done by Kitty and Spencer. Yay, Kitty's back! And I guess Spencer joins the club too. So their at least at half the number of people they need to officially compete. I don't know why viewers complain about this point though- the 12 person rule is only relevant when they need an obstacle. Obviously, they'll get the other 6 they need for the actual competition.

Like Vocal Adrenaline has been just one good singer (Jesse, Sunshine, Unique, Clint) backed up by a bunch of dancers. The Troubletones was just Brittana, Mercedes, and Sugar, with random Cheerios filling up the slots. Even back in S3, when ND didn't have enough members b/c Rachel was suspended and the other girls jumped shipped to the Troubletones they brought up their numbers with the jazz band. So if they don't get the old newbies back, I think they'll just get to 12 using random Cheerios since Kitty and the Mccarthys are already in the club. Some long time fans are already annoyed at the existence of any newbies, particularly since this is the last season, so I doubt they're going to find 6 new cast members to spread out focus even more.

But I digress, not a bad cover, its interesting though that the none of the lines are solos, Kitty and Spencer are singing together seemingly the whole time.

WO Blather- Got the platinum trophy for this over the weekend! So, all that's left is maxing out my favorites. I've already done all the Wei, working on the Jin, already did many of the characters I liked in all the other factions. We'll see if I'll have the fortitude to do all 145 characters. I mean, its not that difficult, since with battlefield bonuses, you're guaranteed at least 2 levels every 3 runs of Speed is of the Essence. Plus, Gauntlet is obviously lucrative, and there's always the survival mode trick for growth points.
geebs: (vain)
Heh, you know, since they initially announced the new Cyclops, Jean Grey, and Storm on twitter, using their twitter handles, I totally didn't realize at first that Sansa was playing Jean Grey. And I should recognize her twitter handle!

And speaking of not knowing things I should, how did I not realize Lloyd Bridges was Jeff and Beau Bridges father?! This is like Kate and Oliver Hudson, Elizabeth and Andrew Shue, Jonathan and Anthony LaPaglia all over again. I realize the last one is really ridiculous since they definitely look like brothers. But its like, yeah, its an uncommon last name, but its not like they have ubiquitous careers. So if I saw one on TV, its not like I remembered the existence of the other one, like I wouldn't be watching an episode of Cold Case or Frasier and then have reason to think of Seven Days. So since they were never in my mind at the same time, I didn't make the connection.

But yeah, heh, I can't believe it never clicked to me that Lloyd was the father of Jeff and Beau. I mean, he definitely looked like them when he was younger, but he was already kinda old in the stuff I saw him in.

But I digress, getting back to comix based tv/movies- so I had heard Rachel Jr from Glee had been cast as the new Supergirl. First off, I was feeling bad for the old Newbies on Glee, since the failure of the last couple of seasons seemed to be hung around their necks and they were all cast off. Except for Kitty Wilde, who was the only one who really mattered, because she's cute and awesome. (she did seem to be the most well received of the old newbies, and the one who seemed to hang out with the old cast the most, so I'm not surprised they kept her) But I guess between this and being in an Oscar nominated movie, Melissa Benoist prolly doesn't care about being booted off Glee.

Secondly, I was a little hesitant at this Supergirl show at first, since it was on CBS, and they were last to the party, and Fox and NBC's foray into the comics based TV show world (Gotham and Constantine) haven't been so great. But I didn't realize it was being done by Greg Berlanti, who does Arrow and Flash. So, it might be better since he seems to be doing a decent job with the other two.

But ha, so now that's the second superhero TV show he's done now starring someone from Glee? Which, with the stunt casting from the 90s Flash TV show and Prison Break, I'm kinda wondering if Felicity's college ex being Flash's replacement on Glee was entirely a coincidence, or it was intentional for her to previously have a thing with a head Warbler, and almost have a thing with another head Warbler.
