Glee- Series finale. It was a fun ride, I'll really miss this show. So, the ep starts with them about to announce the winners for nationals. Interspersed with scenes of Mr Schue getting ready to go on stage is the footage from the unaired pilot of his old teacher before he and his own club went to win nationals.
Obviously, ND wins, otherwise this would be a downer of an ending. The superintendent tells Will, that by winning, not only has he ensure arts is there to stay at Mckinley, he went to bat for Will with the school board. They tried cutting the arts and just focus on "important" subjects like math and science and history to improve those scores. But their studies show that schools that went 100% that way, their scores in those areas did not improve at all. And in some cases, they scores got worse. So Mckinley is becoming an arts school, with Will as its principal.
Of course, if you want to nitpick, didn't they say in the beginning of the season that Mckinley has become incredibly strong academically after the Glee club was disbanded, since they spent all that arts money on computers and other stuff? But whatever, who cares about consistency, I'd rather have a happy ending.
And so the next school year, Glee is swelling with applicants. So much so that the alumni worry he can't do the whole everyone can join (except retards like Becky, apparently!) thing anymore. But, he says they'll have multiple clubs- a JV squad, the Troubletones, and an all boy version called the Duly Noted. Then, to show how happy he is to have helped so many kids, he does a rendition of "Teach Your Children Well".
With Will being principal, he says he can't coach the club. So who's the new coach, since everyone else is apparently in NY? Sam!
What happens with everyone else? Well, Mercedes is opening for Beyonce and is about to leave to go on tour. She says goodbye by singing "Someday We'll Be Together":
I think some people were thinking it was going to be a Samcedes song, but nope, she was singing it to everyone. And in the flashforward, it seems like he's going through gfs like tissue paper.
Sue meanwhile, makes amends with Will, via Abba's "The Winner Takes It All":
Which I thought was a weird choice, given the lyrics. Like I was wondering, were they not going to use the line about "does she kiss the way I used to kiss you!" But ha, she does, and Will is understandably confused. She also reunites with Becky. In the future, Becky is the head of her secret service detail, because she's VP of the United States under Jeb Bush.
Meanwhile, Kurt and Blaine are both Broadway stars, having done the first LGBQT version of "Who's Afraid of Virgina Woolf?" In the flashforward, we see them at the Harvey Milk elementary school as special guests to be all inspirational. They do so by singing "Daydream Believer" for the class:
In 2015, there's a random performance by Rachel of a Darren Criss written song "This Time":
It feels a little out of place, not only because its an original, but its not really relevant into any subplots. Like we just cut to her singing it, no transition. Like when and why is she singing this?
Anyways, in 2020, she's married to Jesse, is the surrogate for Blaine and Kurt (a lot of people felt it was incredibly weird to be a surrogate first before having her own child, which she and Jesse intend to do after she pops this one out), and she wins a Tony award, thanking Will in her speech.
In the end, everyone comes back in 2020 to do OneRepublic's "I Lived":
And I do mean everyone. Well, except for Rory and Marley, who supposedly had other commitments and were unable to make it. But yeah, Ryder and Jake, Sugar, even Lauren and freaking Matt! Heh, its kinda cool that he actually showed up for that, given they unceremoniously dropped him 2nd season. You'd think he'd be all, "Eff those guys!"
