The 10 Most Common Music Cues in Nerd Dom- This is actually a pretty accurate list. I'm kinda curious if the numbers are a rank. Hmm, so in addition to releasing the songs the Friday before, now the show has started releasing some of the performances from the next ep on youtube? Its odd that Fox does the stupid 8 day delay for non-Dish/non Hulu-plus subscribers on all their shows, but they're fine with releasing the actual musical numbers beforehand? I guess they're trying to generate buzz. In any case, here's Brit doing Beyonce's "Run the World":

For one thing, just like when Rachel did Rihanna's "Take a Bow" way back in season one, this is one of those songs where I prefer Glee's version to the original. Though that seems to be the case with a lot of the more Urban music they do. Also, as I've said countless times before, HeMo looks infinitely hotter with her hair down. And finally, how the hell does Kurt have a chance in hell of winning the election after this? The chyx feel all empowered, and the dudes are mesmerized by the hotness.

Speaking of hotness. decided to try my hand at a "Hottest list". I've always found it very difficult to narrow things down to a certain number. But decided to just sit down and look at a list of all the TV shows I watch regularly, the music I listen to, the movies I've seen, other "hottest lists" and first grab all the ladies I liked on those, then take that list and whittle it down to 50 by choosing the ones I felt more strongly towards.

I don't want to say its a "50 hottest chyx list", perhaps it would be more accurate to call it my top 50 favorite hottest chyx: (in no particular order, because its hard enough shortening the list to just 50. Having to order them to would be un-possible!) under the cut )

I was too lazy to actually link to pics. If you're reading this, you have access to the net. If you're curious what one of them looks like, google it yourself! In any case, I put their ages next to them just to help me with seeing trends.

And what trends did I find? Well, I have a definite preference for brunettes- of the 50, 33 are dark haired, with only 10 blonds and 7 redheads. And it should be no surprise I favor the snowflakes- 44/50 are white, with the last 6 being equally split between Latina and Asian. Of course, I didn't count Alexis Bledel as Hispanic, even though she actually is, despite her fair skin and blue eyes. Odette Yustman might actually count as Hispanic also. But chyx like Selena Gomez and Kristin Kreuk are practically snowflakes so the numbers are nebulous.

Age-wise, only 2 are under 20 (but still over 18), with 27 in their 20s, 20 in their 30s, and 1 in her 40s. (Hmm, I wonder if I plotted it out, would it look like a bell curve?) It should be no surprise that 43 of them are younger than me, but hey 7 older, that's not too bad. Though I guess 29 of them were playing high school age characters when they first came to my attention. (Although I shouldn't really count Evangeline Lily, because I first had the hots for her on Lost, and it was only later that I found out she was an extra in Freddy vs Jason. But technically, the first thing I saw her in, she was playing a HS-er)

So the Teen Choice Awards were filmed last night (and showing tonight on Fox). So I was looking over a list of the nominees and winners, and its what I'd expect, for the most part. I mean, the Jonas Brothers beating Steve Carell for "Choice Comedy TV Actor", or Channing Tatum winning "Choice Movie Action Actor" for friggin G.I.Joe is totally ridiculous, but not unexpected. Its the Teen Choice Awards, so of course things like Vampire Diaries and Twilight would be big winners! Although I'll admit, I watch and enjoy the Vampire Diaries, and the show ended up being better than I expected from when I saw the pilot. But it being a better sci fi/fantasy show than Lost and Fringe?!

Anyways, there's only one winner that totally baffles me. And its the "Choice Action TV Show" category. The nominees were 24, NCIS:LA, Burn Notice, Chuck, and Human Target. And the winner? NICS:LA. Really?! I mean, I always thought NCIS was an old people's show. Of those choices, I would think it would be between 24 and Chuck. Teens watch NCIS: Los Angeles?!

Lost-

Lost Characters by Surname- Infinitely easier than the IGN's Ultimate Lost Quiz in my opinion, but I've always had a knack for TV character names.

"Why Isn't There More Effing on This Island", by Garfunkel and Oates (i.e. Ted's gf on Scrubs and that blond chick who's in a bunch of stuff)

Burning questions from the Finale- The majority of them are legitimate questions, though, "How much did the Widmores have to pay Driveshaft to do a concert with their weirdo son?" I'm not so sure about. I mean, in the sideways, wasn't Driveshaft still in a slump? But even then, if the guy who sold shoddy body armor to the US military can get Aerosmith and P. Diddy to play at his daughter's sweet 16 in real life, I would think rich people can easily get famous bands for private events. And wasn't it some sort of weird charity benefit anyways, so its even less frivolous!

Alternate endings to Lost that I mentioned in a previous post, in case you live under a rock and didn't see this on the post-Lost Kimmel show.

24- Another long running and acclaimed series that has just came to an end. But first, my last ever 24 weapons complaint. So, the second half of the penultimate hour, Jack sets up his sniper position across the way from the UN. Anyways, his weapon of choice? An FN SCAR. Which would be fine if he wasn't using the L-version chambered in 5.56mm (you can tell by the magazine) rather than the more sniping appropriate H model in 7.62mm. 5.56mm does have a place in sniping, mainly law enforcement applications at ranges between 100-200 yards. But at the distance Jack was, trying to shoot through glass?! That 5.56mm would fail to have his desired effect (which I assume is to kill someone)!

Anyways, while it is a pretty looking gun, it is kinda curious why he picked it. I mean, when he went into vengeance mode, the weapons he got from Mr Blond to supplement his usual HK USP Compact were a couple of MP7s, a Taurus Judge, a Mossberg pump action, a Colt M933, a M26 shotgun converted for standalone use, and the SCAR-L. As I said in my last 24 post, it was weird that he didn't mount the M26 under the assault rifle so he didn't have to carry 2 separate weapons, but choosing a 933 and the SCAR-L doesn't make much sense either. I mean, the 933 would serve as a very compact assault weapon, why would he need a full sized assault rifle in addition? I mean, he was using the SCAR as a sniping weapon, and with the longer barrel and bipod, obviously its a more accurate weapon, but like I said, there are better tools for the job. I mean, he could've just gone with the SCAR-L in lieu of the 933, since its got the interchangeable barrels, and with the folding stock, a short barreled SCAR would be comparable in compactness. Then when he switched to using it as a sniper weapon, he just needed to change out the barrels. That's less weapons for him to carry, which would be important considering HE'S BEEN ON THE RUN FOR THE LAST FEW HOURS! hmm, I wonder if the M26 can mount under the SCAR? I would think it could, since the SCAR also has Picatinny rails under the barrel.

So all in all, if he used a SCAR-H, and mounted the m26 under that, that's even less weapons he needed to carry. I mean, for the limo ambush, the SCAR-H in CQB mode would have been way handier, since the 7.62 rounds would be much more effective against vehicles and armor. Then when he wanted to use it for sniping, the 7.62mm round would once again be a superior caliber choice.

But I digress. spoiler cut )

TV commentary:

24- You know, even though he's a bad guy, ex-prez Logan is prolly one of the best characters this show has ever had. Gregory Itzin just does a great job of making Logan this kinda self-serving, self-important douchey a-hole, pulling off toeing the line between a legitimately evil threat and a pathetic bastard. Heh, he also does "pants-crappin" quite well, particularly during this week's ep where Jack dons the full body armor complete with "Army of Two" style mask, all one-man army going after Logan.

Speaking of, here's my 24-firearms complaint of the week. Okay, so in the above link, we see Jack starts off his ambush using a M4-style carbine a Colt M933 (From the close ups, it looks like its got the really short barrel, not the 14.5 inch one found on the M4), then he transitions to a pistol, then when he gets to the limo, he switches to the "standalone version" of the M26 MASS. (Which Justin Hammer incorrectly refers to as an "M24 Shotgun" in Iron Man 2 when he's showing Rhodey various weapons he can put on the War Machine suit)

Now, the M26 was originally created as an underbarrel accessory for the M4 carbine (as seen in the opening scene of "The One", where the SWAT guys were armed with M4s sporting underbarrel M26s. Trivia for the day: In the other universe, they're armed with H-K G36s. Do I focus way too much on the guns used in TVs and Movies?). The advantages it had over the Knight's Master Key "S" (which was just a cut down Remington 870) were the detachable box magazine (so one can quickly transition from breaching rounds to other shotgun loads), and the large handle was easier to cycle then the pump action of the 870. So that being said, instead of Jack using an M4 with the M26 mounted under so he can carry one weapon instead of two, he has both the cut-down AR, and the standalone version of the m26.

I mean, really, why would you carry 2 things when you can have a single combo weapon? I was thinking maybe for concealability. Because both weapons separately are slightly more concealable (not that they are all that concealable) than the AR/shotgun combo, but given Jack was walking around in full body armor, I don't think he was trying to hide anything!

TV Commentary:

OTH- You know, I don't if its this show or Secret Life that's more of a train wreck. Heh, I remember the British record lady showing up, but who the hell is the scruffy looking bartender dude? And why are he and her getting like actual plot lines?! This show has enough characters, and they're wasting time on folks who are beyond tertiary? Mia, Chase, Sam, they were kinda relevant, unless I'm missing some vital part of his bio, what the hell does he have to do with anything? Like Mia and Chase stuff, Mia is Haley and Peyton's protege, and Chase used to go out with Brooke, something just them isn't too weird. Even Sam and Kick-Ass' friend who was not Clark Duke, her thing with him would affect her relationship with Brooke. But British record company chick seemed to be barely more than a plot device, and she gets a significant storyline alongside some random? What in the world?!

HIMYM- Seriously, I could give Don a chance if they actually showed Robin and him doing stuff that would make you buy them as a couple. Show, not tell! I mean, the show can say they're a really great couple, but as it is, I only have their word for it. I understand its hard to do a relationship the audience can get behind when one half is only a guest star. But look at Phoebe and Mike on Friends (I don't know if they're gonna have Robin end up with Don in the end, I wouldn't think so, but some of the ways they've phrased things on the show they might be heading that way, which would be a terrible idea), they established him and the relationship well that her ending up with him worked and didn't feel forced. Or going the other way, where it doesn't last. Amy Ryan wasn't on too many eps of the Office, but you feel for Michael when Holly leaves. I guess you don't want to make some guest star one of your main characters falls for too likable, because if it is a passing fling, you don't want the audience to get to attached to the pair. (Even though it seems Jesse might have some nefarious plot going on given the look he gave Shelby when he first hooked up with Rachel in Glee, it seems a lot of the audience actually likes the two of them together) But HIMYM doesn't have to worry about that, because Don's such a boring non-entity. I think of that scene in that movie where Bobcat Goldwaith gets a talking horse (played by John Candy), and in the final horse race in the end, when people hear the horse is named Don, people are all "Don?" since racehorses have weird names like "middle aged housewife" and "there's a crazy woman on the tracks". Well, the other thing about his character I think of, is my favorite line from High Fidelity, "What effin' Ian guy?" I mean, I know who this character is, but since he's such a non-entity on the show, its like "who the eff is Don?" sometimes.

24- Oh, I forgot to complain last week, when Jack asked Michael Madsen for "two MP-5s", but they never show any amongst the arsenal he gets. He gets a couple of MP-7s, which while also made by H&K is a totally different weapon used for a radically different sitch. While the MP-5 was a good weapon in its hey-day, a very accurate and handy 9mm submachine gun, its kinda defunct nowadays since its only a 9mm submachine gun. Cut down carbines are where its at, and for CQB work, the MP5 has been all but replaced by compact assault rifles like the M4 since they provide for more stopping power and longer ranges. And while the MP5K-PDW version of the MP-5 is quite the compact little weapon when folded up, again, its obsolete compared to the MP-7. The MP7 is more compact, and its 4.7mm round is more effective against targets wearing body armor. That is prolly what Jack wanted, since it is easily concealable under his jacket, and was gonna use it against guys who were most likely wearing bulletproof vests. Get your weapons straight, show!

Speaking of weapon choices, Jack bringing a Taurus Judge was kinda a weird weapon choice. I mean, its somewhat compact, but I think in that sitch, there's a better backup weapon to take besides a huge revolver chambered for .410 shotgun rounds. I mean, it seems more a choice for style than actual usefulness. Like, why transition from his handgun to it to hold the other guys off? Its not like he was fighting off huge gorillas hopped up on PCP, with his training, he could put the guys coming down just as quick with his pistol. Or bring the aforementioned MP7? The automatic fire capability would be more useful in holding the guys off than firing a couple of .410 shotshells their direction, plus, since it did look like the PMCs wear wearing armor, the armor-piercing rounds would be more effective than the cluster of pellets from the judge!

Like the real usefulness of the Judge is to have a very compact and relatively concealable mini-shotgun to bring to bear in really close ranges- someone tries to jack your car or sneaks in your bedroom or some deal you have going with someone across the table with you goes bad. Within 5-10 feet, you pull fast, and you're not gonna miss, and unlike a pistol round, that's gonna put the guy down quick. But Jack had a tactical advantage, his pistol already drawn, using aimed fire to take out guys from 15-20 feet, there was no reason to switch to another weapon. Again, it seems more like a stylistic choice than a tactical one.

Oh, and the whole Starbuck being the mole thing still makes no sense. So of all the people the Ruskies would pick to infiltrate CTU, they decide to pick some random white trash girl fresh out of jail to laud a very good cover on? I mean, its not like they used any of her actual past, since that part was hidden from CTU, so why not pick someone more useful to place in there?
