So After Ellen's Ultimate Femslash Madness Tourney is in round two. It looks like Swan Queen is facing Sleeping Warrior in the Sweet 16, which is unfortunate. I think Mulan/Aurora is more likely than Regina/Emma, but I think the latter has more fans. So I think it will be Swan Queen in that bracket.

And I'm calling Beca/Chloe vs Faberry in the Elite 8 (I don't see Cara/Kahlan overcoming the former, and I don't think there are as many Liv/Alex fans as there are Faberry), which is gonna be crazy. I have no idea who'll win that matchup.

As for the last two of the final four, its obviously going to be Rizzles and HG/Myka. That's gonna be another crazy matchup. But yeah, I think whoever take it between those two will win in the end.

Dexter- Hmm, I wonder if that's it for that. spoiler cut )

Tried the dorito shell tacos at taco bell. They're quite messy. I dunno how I feel about my hands being caked in doritos dust after eating these.

TV commentary:

Alcatraz- Heh, I don't know why I still get a kick out of it whenever they show previous 63s they recaptured just sitting in their cells (or just hanging around in the background in the past). Like I don't know what SAG rules are, but since they don't speak, how much do they actually get paid? Well, not as much as a role with a line, I'm sure, but I guess prolly a decent amount for just standing around somewhere for a minute.

What I am curious about is who they decide to use for those scenes? Well, the only two I recognize is the first guy and sniper guy, and I guess in the current time they showed one other guy in this ep. Are those the only actors they could get back, or are those the only ones they were able to take alive?

One Tree Hill- Eh, after catching last week's ep, I wanted to see how things turned out, so I'm watching it right now. Heh, are they going to pull a DC here? Julian finally thinks he has the perfect idea for his soundstage after re-reading "A Kindness of Ravens". He realizes that while it didn't work as a movie, it might work as a TV show. So just like Dawson created Dawson's Creek on the show, is Julian going to create OTH?

So, they finally released Cao Ren's buckler blade and Da Qiao's "pugil sticks" from DW Strike Force as DLC in DW7. The buckler blade is actually pretty cool (and the highest level weapon is death element), so I'm kinda disappointed when they de-cloned the flail folks for WO3, they changed Dong Zhou's weapon from flail to bombs rather than give Cao Ren his buckler blade back.

So while folding my laundry, I had to leave the telly on something, but my shows on Wednesday don't start until 9pm, so I put it on OTH. Okay, I haven't watched One Tree Hill in a while, but when did this show become so cray?! Well, the show has always been pretty outrageous with Dan's heart transplant getting eaten by a dog, Peyton's fake half brother, and crazy Nanny Carrie, and the chick who looked just like Clay's dead wife, who's ghost he was seeing for the longest time. But apparently this season Nate got kidnapped by Russian mobsters and was missing for several eps? Seriously, how many crazy people do these characters have come after them?!

Anyways, so Dan's murdered his brother, and he did off Nanny Carrie to protect his family. But he's still an ordinary man. Well, obviously, killing people is not normal, I meant he's a killer but its not like he's some bad-ass soldier type. But this ep, he basically walks into the warehouse Nate's being kept, and basically shotguns the frick out of bad guys left and right. And you know who's not a killer? Chris Keller. He was basically used in previous eps as an obstacle to Haley and Nate, and sometimes as comic relief as the cocky skirt chaser. And he basically rams a gangster into the wall with a car. (Needless to say, the guy ended up very dead!)

And then in the end, you have Nate outdrawing a professional criminal, and Julian sneaking up and braining a dirty cop with a big-ass wrench. Meanwhile, Brooke's being attacked by that guy who killed Quentin way back when, but lucky her nemesis tazed him, and then once he's down Brooke proceeds to torture him with the tazer! What show is this?! Didn't this show start out about a couple of brothers who played basketball? When did it turn into 24?!

Heh, so Buzzfeed came out with a If you watch these shows, you may be a pedophile list:

1) Gossip Girl
2) Glee
3) Pretty Little Liars
4) Skins
5) The Secret Life of the American Teenager
6) 90210
7) Degrassi
8) The OC
9) One Tree Hill
10) Dawson's Creek
11) Undressed

So I watched 9 of these (though I quit OTH and SLOTAT). But watching these shows is pedo-ish? That's total BS!

So, was in a managerial class all day. During lunch break, I was sitting with a couple of the chyx in class at Junior's for lunch. And since I was formerly a student here, they were all, "you're a young one, when you get to be our age..." and I think only one of them was actually older than me. The other might be my age. Like I don't think they did the math. I mean, if I say I've been here for 11 years (which is far longer than the couple of years they've been here), and was a student from 94-99, I think you can figure out my age, and I'm not actually young.

But I suppose I do look young. Or do I actually, or is it that I dress the same I did back in college and most of my interests are similar to someone much younger than me so I seem younger? That one chick at AE did say I was quite older than she expected when she saw my license.

TV commentary:

Glee- Quick Glee shot, watching Mercedes and Santana's performance of "River Deep, Mountain High" again, does Santana's dance routine include the Peanuts dance (I was gonna say Snoopy dance but she was dancing like one of the kids, not Snoopy himself) and some Tae-Bo moves?!

SVU- Wow, Aunt May is rjv('Cold blooded!') I was trying to figure out why I had apparently been on the new ADA's (wait, so is the new ADA every ep gonna be a thing?) imdb page. I'm guessing it was because of that Deja Vu movie. Weird, so she's Jason Seaver's daughter in law (okay, his real life singer son, not Mike or Ben)? Also, wtf?! Alcide from True Blood/Owen from OTH was Flash Thompson in the Spiderman movies?! Holy crap, he really does look different without facial hair!

Anyways, how ridiculous was this episode? Were they really trying to vilify soda companies?! Sure, soda isn't exactly healthy for you, but an episode painting soda companies in the same light as big tobacco?!

Life Unexpected- Heh, I can't believe they did a cross-over with One Tree Hill! Wow, they actually made a Cate looks like "that girl from Roswell" joke?! I mean, do the people who would be watching this know what Roswell is anymore? But ha, Tasha wanting to nickname Lux "Slux". Well, she was dressed kinda slutty:

Seriously, though, what the hell is up with Cate and Baze, I know they're not gonna win parents of the year anytime soon, but once they saw Paige's "makeover" of their teenage daughter, shouldn't they say, "hell no, you're not wearing that to some concert!" Even if they were both there to sort of chaperon.

Man, I'm already behind on TV. Stuff still in the queue:

Lonestar
Hawaii 5-0
OTH
Life Unexpected
NCIS

Upcoming stuff I can't wait for: (and an argument for me secretly being a teenage girl)

Community- The season premiere is this Thursday, and this will actually take priority over Vampire Diaries because I definitely want to see the aftermath of that Jannie kiss. Now, I don't want them to be all lubby-dubby and together or anything, because that would be totally terrible for the show if they were. In fact, I suspect Jeff will prolly totally freak out since he's in his mid-30s and Annie's like 19 or something. (Although, personally, I don't see what the big deal is, but of course, I would. Well, think that. Or rather wouldn't see the big deal.) I just don't want them to totally dismiss the pairing immediately, i.e. throw them together, it totally not work out, and never address it again.

Gossip Girl- Speaking of my favorite ships, I don't wanna jinx it, but my sources tell me they are gonna do Dair this season. In a few eps even. I'm like giddy with egg-citement!

Glee- Next week's Britney ep! I didn't think I would find it a big deal until I saw the promo:

Even though I like Madonna and Gaga more, I find myself even more excited for this ep than those others now that I've seen the preview. Brittany in all those classic Britney Spears looks, and I didn't notice this until my second viewing, but it looks like she and Santana will be re-enacting the Madonna/Britney "Me Against the Music" video. And Rachel in the Britney Spears "Hit Me Baby One More Time" school girl outfit?!

TV Commentary:

Sons of Anarchy- Some interesting reveals here that I won't spoil. But I was most amused by the one guy's pr0n star gf wanting to help with the deal they had going with the Chinese. And what deal? SAMCRO wants that one black biker gang to spy on those Mexicans trying to come in and smuggle dope, but they want a bunch of AKs for their troubles. So, Clay negotiates with the Chinese, who don't have a shipment of AKs readily available, but will sell them some MP5s. SAMCRO doesn't have the money, so the Chinese will let the pieces go for a trade- they get their pr0n star contacts to do a "special show" for some of his friends, and they have to be hottie snowflakes, because he already has enough Asian hookers. Anyways, what amused me was Lyla was wanting to do it, not just to help out the club, but basically because she has only a few years left in the business before she stops looking like hottie jailbait and no longer get work. Only she phrased it "before I stop looking like everyone's kid sister" which is kinda a weird way to put it since that can have incestuous overtones. I guess she means "your buddy's kid sister" as opposed to your own sister. Because while ill-advised, at least its not illegal to bang your friend's sister. I was so surprised at the phrasing that I didn't go spcv('Nice!') which in turn shocked [livejournal.com profile] clevemire. Amusingly enough, I did say spcv('Nice!') when Gemma was letting the hottie Latina nurse they had tied up in the basement use the bedpan. But only jokingly. Is it weird that I can go from sounding like a lame tween at the beginning of this post to a weirdo pervert further down?

Warehouse 13- Hmm, interesting end to the season. cut for spoilers )

Other: So, Heavy posted their Top 20 Hottest Videos of all time. What, no Fiona Apple's "Criminal"? I don't care what people say, its sexy! Anyways, there were a few videos I hadn't heard of, that are indeed sexy. Like Eric Prydz's "Call On Me". Hey, not only does it have sexy chyx (who aren't jailbait looking, so there's proof I like all types!), the song is a sort of cover of Steve Winwood's "Valerie", so that's pretty awesome.

The Closer- Interesting resolution to the whole new chief thing. spoiler cut )

OTH- Wow, this show is macabre. And I'm amused how the ep description ruined one of the "twists" of the ep. But before I get into that, wait, isn't Jamie like 7 or something? I found the whole thing about taking away his cell phone privileges weird, because who the frak is a 7 year old gonna call?!spoiler cut )

I thought this was an amusing article: Fan made credit sequences that are way better than the ones used by the show.

Although all the shows they mention lack the normal credit sequences, so there's nothing for these things to actually be better than. But, still, they are pretty well-made. The Lost one is pretty clever, in particular, I think it does kinda mesh with the feel of the show.

TV Commentary:

Burn Notice- Ah, I figured that's how it was going to go. spoiler cut )

TV Commentary:

OTH- You know, I don't if its this show or Secret Life that's more of a train wreck. Heh, I remember the British record lady showing up, but who the hell is the scruffy looking bartender dude? And why are he and her getting like actual plot lines?! This show has enough characters, and they're wasting time on folks who are beyond tertiary? Mia, Chase, Sam, they were kinda relevant, unless I'm missing some vital part of his bio, what the hell does he have to do with anything? Like Mia and Chase stuff, Mia is Haley and Peyton's protege, and Chase used to go out with Brooke, something just them isn't too weird. Even Sam and Kick-Ass' friend who was not Clark Duke, her thing with him would affect her relationship with Brooke. But British record company chick seemed to be barely more than a plot device, and she gets a significant storyline alongside some random? What in the world?!

HIMYM- Seriously, I could give Don a chance if they actually showed Robin and him doing stuff that would make you buy them as a couple. Show, not tell! I mean, the show can say they're a really great couple, but as it is, I only have their word for it. I understand its hard to do a relationship the audience can get behind when one half is only a guest star. But look at Phoebe and Mike on Friends (I don't know if they're gonna have Robin end up with Don in the end, I wouldn't think so, but some of the ways they've phrased things on the show they might be heading that way, which would be a terrible idea), they established him and the relationship well that her ending up with him worked and didn't feel forced. Or going the other way, where it doesn't last. Amy Ryan wasn't on too many eps of the Office, but you feel for Michael when Holly leaves. I guess you don't want to make some guest star one of your main characters falls for too likable, because if it is a passing fling, you don't want the audience to get to attached to the pair. (Even though it seems Jesse might have some nefarious plot going on given the look he gave Shelby when he first hooked up with Rachel in Glee, it seems a lot of the audience actually likes the two of them together) But HIMYM doesn't have to worry about that, because Don's such a boring non-entity. I think of that scene in that movie where Bobcat Goldwaith gets a talking horse (played by John Candy), and in the final horse race in the end, when people hear the horse is named Don, people are all "Don?" since racehorses have weird names like "middle aged housewife" and "there's a crazy woman on the tracks". Well, the other thing about his character I think of, is my favorite line from High Fidelity, "What effin' Ian guy?" I mean, I know who this character is, but since he's such a non-entity on the show, its like "who the eff is Don?" sometimes.

24- Oh, I forgot to complain last week, when Jack asked Michael Madsen for "two MP-5s", but they never show any amongst the arsenal he gets. He gets a couple of MP-7s, which while also made by H&K is a totally different weapon used for a radically different sitch. While the MP-5 was a good weapon in its hey-day, a very accurate and handy 9mm submachine gun, its kinda defunct nowadays since its only a 9mm submachine gun. Cut down carbines are where its at, and for CQB work, the MP5 has been all but replaced by compact assault rifles like the M4 since they provide for more stopping power and longer ranges. And while the MP5K-PDW version of the MP-5 is quite the compact little weapon when folded up, again, its obsolete compared to the MP-7. The MP7 is more compact, and its 4.7mm round is more effective against targets wearing body armor. That is prolly what Jack wanted, since it is easily concealable under his jacket, and was gonna use it against guys who were most likely wearing bulletproof vests. Get your weapons straight, show!

Speaking of weapon choices, Jack bringing a Taurus Judge was kinda a weird weapon choice. I mean, its somewhat compact, but I think in that sitch, there's a better backup weapon to take besides a huge revolver chambered for .410 shotgun rounds. I mean, it seems more a choice for style than actual usefulness. Like, why transition from his handgun to it to hold the other guys off? Its not like he was fighting off huge gorillas hopped up on PCP, with his training, he could put the guys coming down just as quick with his pistol. Or bring the aforementioned MP7? The automatic fire capability would be more useful in holding the guys off than firing a couple of .410 shotshells their direction, plus, since it did look like the PMCs wear wearing armor, the armor-piercing rounds would be more effective than the cluster of pellets from the judge!

Like the real usefulness of the Judge is to have a very compact and relatively concealable mini-shotgun to bring to bear in really close ranges- someone tries to jack your car or sneaks in your bedroom or some deal you have going with someone across the table with you goes bad. Within 5-10 feet, you pull fast, and you're not gonna miss, and unlike a pistol round, that's gonna put the guy down quick. But Jack had a tactical advantage, his pistol already drawn, using aimed fire to take out guys from 15-20 feet, there was no reason to switch to another weapon. Again, it seems more like a stylistic choice than a tactical one.

Oh, and the whole Starbuck being the mole thing still makes no sense. So of all the people the Ruskies would pick to infiltrate CTU, they decide to pick some random white trash girl fresh out of jail to laud a very good cover on? I mean, its not like they used any of her actual past, since that part was hidden from CTU, so why not pick someone more useful to place in there?

spoiler cut )

Glee- Heh, so they just released versions of "Ice Ice Baby" and "U Can't Touch This", but seriously, how awesome does Lea Michele sound on "Total Eclipse of the Heart".

(And is there any other blog in the world where someone will be all giddy for some musical show version of TEoTH, complain about ships portrayed on TV shows, and rant about firearms choices? Sometimes I feel my interests don't line up)
geebs: (Default)
Okay, I haven't watched OTH in a while because there's a bunch of other stuff on at 8pm, namely Chuck, House, and HIMYM, but since those are all repeats or pre-empted because of the Olympics. So watching tonight was kinda jarring. spoiler cut )

Anyways, on the ride home from work, [livejournal.com profile] clevemire informed me one could record stuff with VLC. Interesting, I was unaware of that feature. So with that and having 4x the amount of hard drive space I used to have, I've started fully taking advantage of that, if you know what I mean, and I think you do! Quite useful for just getting the "good stuff".
geebs: (Default)
Finally finished unpacking, so glad that's out of the way. But what the frick, did they stop showing HIMYM on line? And apparently 90210 doesn't show online? But OTH does, so just watching that right now.

TV Commentary:

OTH- Okay, the whole Rachel-Dan exchange about getting Lucas to show up for sweeps and its like he's not doing anything is kinda hilarious. (Why did CMM and Hilarie Burton leave the show anyways?) Although now Rachel's comments are getting a little too meta. Neways, some people may think this whole Clay seeing his dead wife thing is a little ridiculous, but Ida know, I think its kinda hilarious! So he's like totally insane. Though Center Stage chick was indeed right to tell him he was creepy to imagine her in the Phoebe Cates "Fast Times" scene. Of course, I'm weird like that, feeling odd about watching/look at pics of playboy/pr0n chyx who are dead.

I think I may have quit Heroes. I didn't watch it last week or this week. I figure I'd check out the TWoP recaps since I don't care about spoiler as much as other people do, and if its something that sounds interesting, I'll check it out.

TV Commentary:

One Tree Hill- I knew last week that that chick at Clay's house was the ghost of his dead wife! I mean, this ep its totally obvious (Or at least I thought it was, but I'm always looking out for people possibly being ghosts or imaginary), but I feel all clever anyways. And I thought I recognized the name in the credits. Its Jody Sawyer from Center Stage! Looking at imdb, doesn't look like she's done much between that and OTH. And why would Nate think Dan wouldn't have his back? He frickin' threatened Nanny Carrie if she ever came near Nate and his family again, and then actually followed through on said threat and shot her down like a dog when she did! So of course he would do something on the show to show Renee was an effin liar even if he claimed he believed her!

Gossip Girl- Seriously, the writers are wasting a golden opportunity here by not pursuing Dair. I mean, no offense to people who ship them, but they're boring as hell together. And this thing with Dan and Hilary Duff just seems forced and uninteresting. spoiler cut )

TV Commentary:

Gossip Girl- So we finally meet Vanessa's mom, who's played by Zoe from Firefly. Wait, Vanessa is mixed?! And what's with her parents disapproving of college because they don't approve of "knowledge being kept from the masses"? So their answer is for their daughter not to get an education because other poor people can't afford educations? That's retarded! spoiler cut )

One Tree Hill- Is it me, or is Smash's gf hot? Or since that's kinda a dated reference, UCLA chick that was interested in Turtle? I'm kinda amused that Chase was all, "She's kinda like you were in high school!" to Brooke so Brooke flips out because she remembers what a whore she kinda was in high school and therefore knows Alex's after her man. And if Haley's sister is gonna be regular, they need to give her something more to do than prattle on and on about how she fell out of love with her ex-husband. The way they were filming that one blond who started talking to Clay (who the hell is she, did they even mention her name?), I was hoping she'd end up being like a figment of his imagination. Well, I guess they haven't shown her interact with anyone else yet, but like I said, the feel of their scenes does seem very Sixth Sense-ish. Perhaps his reference to going off the rails has to do with her dying?

Gossip Girl- You know, after OTH ends and they have the "stay tuned for Gossip Girl" bit, it always weirds me out when Ed Westwick does it because of the British accent. Well, I guess it always weird me out when English dudes who play Americans speak in their native accent in stuff off the show. Though for English chyx, I just think "HOTT!" Though Anna Friel weirds me out in that she talks like an English soccer hooligan. (And hey, both of their characters are named "Chuck") spoiler cut )

And what's with Meadow kissing Turtle to make Smash's gf jealous? Wouldn't that just raise Turtle's stock in her eyes, and make him more desirable to her, as opposed to scaring her off?!

One Tree Hill- speaking of Smash's gf, is she mixed? Because when they first showed the dailies of her that John from Cincinatti got for Brooke, I totally didn't recognize her and thought it was some ethnic cutie I'd never seen before. But then when she was at the airport I was all, "Wait, that's Smash's gf!" spoiler cut )

Heroes- So, they added Nanny girl as Claire's new college friend, but I don't like how they dress her, it makes her look all gawky. I mean, she looked kinda hot on that one ep of Californication I saw, and these bikini pics from whatever magazine they're from looked kinda hot. spoiler cut )

TV Commentary:

Again, TPTB has decided to spread things out poorly. Last night was the season openers of OTH and Gossip Girl. But next week there are those and the season prmeieres of HIMYM, House, and Heroes. (While it does suck that Chuck doesn't start til March, it at least puts some relief on the schedule) I'm almost inclined to say frak OTH and Heroes though, if I had to cut something out. And then Thursday has Bones, Fringe, NBC's "Thursday night done right", and Supernatural. Even the hotness of the chicks of Vampire Diaries isn't enough to keep me interested (BTW, besides Mia from Degrassi and Maureen from Freaks & Geeks/Casey from the OC, that one blond girl who I didn't think I knew from anything who also got arrested was apparently the live girl in that Deadgirl movie, but I prolly didn't recognize her because she's not a blond in the trailer for it), which is kinda saying something. There's just too much on Thursday already.

OTH- Heh, I knew Lucas and Peyton were leaving, but I thought they were gonna at least show their departure. But nope, they're already gone. And I thought they were trying to reduce the cast? I mean, last year was ridiculous, but now, even with Leyton gone, apparently there's Nate's agent and Haley's sister Quinn (played by Shantel VanSanten of The Final Destination, who I'm pretty sure is the nice-assed one in that one pic from the movie), and is Julian a regular now? BTW, now that we've seen Quinn, and Taylor (Taylor James, ha!) being played by the hot Lindsey Mckeon, I wonder what Haley's last sister looks like? Or have they shown her already?

Gossip Girl- Interesting addition of characters played by actors who's shows were cancelled last year. I mean, Carter was around last year, but with Kings gone and him going out with Leighton Meester in real life, I'm guessing he might be playing a bigger role this year? And then you have Joanna Garcia playing Nate's new love interest. But heh, instead of working for rich chicks like in Priviledged, she is one.

But looks like the secret son will be around for at least a few eps? I still don't get why Jacob from TWoP refers to him as Pilot Inspektor (son of Jason Lee and the mad cute Parker on Leverage). And let's not forget Michelle Trachtenberg's Georgina made sure she would be Blair's roommate at the end of last season, so I'm guessing she'll be around for a few eps too, though she's also on that new Mercy show, so it can't be for too long. Unless like Kings it was being filmed in NY.

In Plain Sight- What the hell, first Hannah from Everwood was on this past week's Numbers as a midwestern runaway turned Baltar cultist (And how hilarious is it that they had Baltar playing another dude with a cult full of young hotties, only his character had a Southern accent instead of an English one?), then here she's this orthodox Jewish wife, and both times I totally didn't recognize her until I saw her name in the credits. I guess its the lack of glasses. spoiler cut )

Gossip Girl- The 80s flashback to young Lily was interesting. And I'm confused, was No Doubt (speaking of, saw a commercial that they'll be in town with Paramore June 5th? Interesting) playing themselves? Like was that them in the 80s before they hit it big in the 90s? So the younger version of Lily's mother is played by Libby from Lost, and her dad is Andrew Mccarthy? And she has a sister named Carol whom we've never met yet, played by Gia from VM, and Dick Casablancas is playing her not-bf? The 80s soundtrack was pretty apt and awesome (but Josh Schwartz shows usually have good soundtracks, if Gossip Girl, the OC, and Chuck are any indication). Overall, I think the spinoff might be interesting. And if the creators were for real when they said it, it would be amusing for young Lily to bump into younger versions of Sandy, Kirsten, Jimmy, and Julie from the OC, since it would take place in California. spoiler cut )

Weird, just have it on Without a Trace as I type it up, and its the light hearted ep where Saffron plays an Agoraphobe, and Hiro plays a dry-cleaning delivery man, but I didn't realize until now that Morgan from Chuck was also in this ep. I guess its because he's sans mustache and beard.

Heh, reading Ain't It Cool today, I was amused how Harry Knowles looked like a durned fool complaining about one of the Wolverine promos, the one about Emma Frost (there's also one for william Stryker, the the Blob, John Wraith, Deadpool, Sabretooth, Gambit, Wolverine, and a general one featuring many of the main mutant characters. BTW, I didn't realize the blob was played by Keamy from Lost in a fat-suit). No, the complaint wasn't about how Emma Frost was supposed to be hotter, he was baffled that she was this glowing disco ball chick. Apparently, he didn't know of her secondary diamond mutation. How can one be a self professed uber geek (and to me that means all the geekiness categories, from comics to video games to rpgs to fantasy/sci fi among other things) and not know that?! It should be common knowledge to any comic book geek!

And I don't think "Oh, I only read X-men during so and so's run" or I stopped reading in the 90s is a valid excuse. Well, if one's knowledge is lacking, then I think one shouldn't claim to be a comic book geek. Or at the very least, if you're gonna make a living writing about such things, do some friggin' research first so you don't end up looking like an idiot!

So the Caprica movie came out on DVD yesterday. I haven't watched it yet, but there are a few things I heard that I'm trying to reconcile with BSG. spoiler cut )
