TV Commentary:

Again, TPTB has decided to spread things out poorly. Last night was the season openers of OTH and Gossip Girl. But next week there are those and the season prmeieres of HIMYM, House, and Heroes. (While it does suck that Chuck doesn't start til March, it at least puts some relief on the schedule) I'm almost inclined to say frak OTH and Heroes though, if I had to cut something out. And then Thursday has Bones, Fringe, NBC's "Thursday night done right", and Supernatural. Even the hotness of the chicks of Vampire Diaries isn't enough to keep me interested (BTW, besides Mia from Degrassi and Maureen from Freaks & Geeks/Casey from the OC, that one blond girl who I didn't think I knew from anything who also got arrested was apparently the live girl in that Deadgirl movie, but I prolly didn't recognize her because she's not a blond in the trailer for it), which is kinda saying something. There's just too much on Thursday already.

OTH- Heh, I knew Lucas and Peyton were leaving, but I thought they were gonna at least show their departure. But nope, they're already gone. And I thought they were trying to reduce the cast? I mean, last year was ridiculous, but now, even with Leyton gone, apparently there's Nate's agent and Haley's sister Quinn (played by Shantel VanSanten of The Final Destination, who I'm pretty sure is the nice-assed one in that one pic from the movie), and is Julian a regular now? BTW, now that we've seen Quinn, and Taylor (Taylor James, ha!) being played by the hot Lindsey Mckeon, I wonder what Haley's last sister looks like? Or have they shown her already?

Gossip Girl- Interesting addition of characters played by actors who's shows were cancelled last year. I mean, Carter was around last year, but with Kings gone and him going out with Leighton Meester in real life, I'm guessing he might be playing a bigger role this year? And then you have Joanna Garcia playing Nate's new love interest. But heh, instead of working for rich chicks like in Priviledged, she is one.

But looks like the secret son will be around for at least a few eps? I still don't get why Jacob from TWoP refers to him as Pilot Inspektor (son of Jason Lee and the mad cute Parker on Leverage). And let's not forget Michelle Trachtenberg's Georgina made sure she would be Blair's roommate at the end of last season, so I'm guessing she'll be around for a few eps too, though she's also on that new Mercy show, so it can't be for too long. Unless like Kings it was being filmed in NY.

So Chuck and Blair are still together, but they're playing a game where Chuck will flirt with a girl, and just as he's about to cheat, Blair will show up all offended and scandalized, but its all fake and they pick a girl beforehand to pull into the embarassing situation. Which, while a game, is a rather boring one. I mean, at least in Cruel Intentions they actually frakked around. But, Blair's not a slut, and it would be weird if she did get into weird sex games with Chuck, so it is in character.

Serena never found her dad, and now Carter is her secret boyfriend?! What the?! And Nate's going out with the aforementioned Joanna Garcia, who's playing "Bree Buckley", the daughter of one of his family's political rivals. But whoa, what's with his grandpa turning all scheming, acting like he accepts their relationship but secretly planning to use it against her family?

Looks like the Humphreys are living the high life now, but like last year, Lily is nowhere to be found. Well, she's with Cici as apparently her cancer has returned, but its still weird the character is always absent in the first few eps these last couple of seasons.

And secret son meets the family, but doesn't get the chance to tell Rufus he's the son because of Serena acting all scandalously, which we find out is an actual cry for her Daddy's attention.

Can't wait for next week with Blair, Dan, Vanesa, and Georgina at NYU. I'm still hoping for Dair!

Book commentary:

Beyond the Shadows- Heh, the book tries to pass Kylar off as a god among men with his powers, but the three still seem to be way above him. I mean, Kylar has done some impressive things, but these past few chapters with Solon and Dorian? I mean, Solon kills that one guy at the wedding who was trying to overthrow Kaede, and she's all, "Well, you better finish off these guys who are gonna rebel!" And he basically just marches to each of the islands and does that. And then he and Kaede get married. And the whole thing takes the space in a chapter. I mean, he single handedly saves an Empire and wins back his love, and they just gloss over it!

Same with Dorian, he's freaking out about the Wildmen, but all he does is raise an arcanghul, ask which of the wildmen's shamans is controlling all the krul, and he just kills them and the Wildmens Krul turn on them and slaughter them. Easy peasy!

And they keep saying Kylar killed the godking, but wasn't it Vi who did that? I guess they're giving him the credit? I suppose if he hadn't gotten his ass killed, Vi wouldn't have been able to break the compulsion her father had on her with the rings, and she couldn't have killed him. And I guess he had that spell to take over her body to prevent final death, so with Kylar stopping that from happening, he did kill-kill Garoth.

Oh, but these last few chapters were so deliciously cruel to Vi. The rings are a one way compulsion towards Kylar, so she can control Kylar. Obviously, she lurves him, so she's not going to do that. But knowing that, thanks to some research by Ariel, she can temporarily suspend the bond from his end so he can't feel her or get sick whenever he tries to get intimate with Elene. So, basically, since Elene's dying in the spring, they're frakking like rabbits. Which Vi finds oh so wonderful! I mean, could you imagine anything worse, having to feel the one you love and the happiness and pleasure they feel with someone else, knowing that they'd never feel those feelings toward you?

But heh, Elene figured out Vi's in love with Kylar, and does thank her for being a trooper. Kylar seems to oblivious, which is hilarious because unlike Elene, he actually does have an emotional bond with Vi, so you'd think he'd pick up on something Elene can read as plain as day on Vi's face.

I'm definitely glad she went to Logan's army, because as she said, Kylar's just retarded enough to not fight in some vain hope it will stop her from dying. This way he'll be forced to fight.

Oh, and how hilarious is it that they say no one person should ever hold both Curoch and Iures, but Kylar has had both (separately) and just tossed them away? Granted, he was just doing what the Wolf told him to do with Curoch so he could get his hand back, but losing Iures was indeed dumb, though again, he didn't actually know he had it.
