Saw Man of Steel with the usual suspects. Including [livejournal.com profile] phatjoe, whom I didn't know was coming, and with all the weight loss, [livejournal.com profile] clevemire and I totally didn't recognize him. Like we were walking up the escalator, and some dude looks down at us and say something. Since we didn't recognize him, we thought he was talking to someone else. But then when we get to the next landing and up the second escalator, we realize its him.

One of the trailers in front of the movie was for "Gravity", which as far as I can tell is about Sandra Bullock and George Clooney as astronauts, and as they're out on a space walk, their shuttle is destroyed and they're basically stuck in a debris field. I'm guessing they're pretty much effed, so who the hell wants to see a movie about that? Its like the movie with the people stuck out in the middle of the ocean with sharks, or the one with the guy buried alive. Spoiler alert, they all die. I suppose maybe someone will save them, but I wanna say its like those other movies because its more artsy if they don't make it. Which, why the eff would I want to see a movie where a person is in this hopeless situation and they just die?!

On to the movie, it was okay. There were some ridiculous plot decisions, but at the very least, the superhuman combat was bad-ass. Like Faora just schooling a bunch of army guys in the blink of an eye was pretty awesome. She kinda moved like Wesker in RE5. Also, lots of Canadian actors in this. I was amused because the first scene they show with Richard Schiff as Dr Emil, he's talking to Gaeta as a random tech, who of course played Dr Emil in Smallville. But yeah with all the Canadians in it, you could go through the list of actors in the movie, and a good portion of the lesser named actors guest starred on Smallville at one point or another. Though only Helo, Gaeta and Flashpoint sniper guy sprung are ones I actually remember actually being on the show. But lets not forget Amy Adams was also a Kryptofreak on the show back before she hit it big.

"Simon and Garfunkel" doing The Sound of Cylons: (Yeah, this is almost a week old, but you know what they say, if I haven't see it its new to me!)

I thought this was neat, "The Greatest Car Chase Ever":

I still keep meaning to watch Skins, but my sources tell me the mad cute Hannah Murray and hottie nymphet Kaya Scodelario are reprising their roles for their own eps in the final season. The word on the street is that Naomily return as well.

TV commentary:

Hawaii Five-O- I may have said this in my last H5O post and completely forgot afterward, but I noticed McGarret's gf is a regular now. Which is good, because the show could use more hot chyx, Boomer is outnumbered 4 to 1! Oh, it was nice to see Arielle Kebbel there in the beginning.

Huh, so I'd been seeing promos for that new "Don't Trust the B in Apt 23", and it seemed interesting enough, particularly since James Van Der Beek was playing himself. But, I guess since Traffic Light is dunzo, my cousin's husband is producing that now. And since it comes on right after Modern Family, I have no excuse not to support the family and watch it. I mean, what else am I going to do during that half hour between Modern Family, and whatever show comes on at 10pm (Psych, SVU, Southpark)

But the "B" is played by Krysten Ritter (VM's Gia Goodman, though you may remember her as Lucy on Gilmore Girls, or as gothy landlord lady on Breaking Bad, or chick flicks 27 Dresses and Confessions of a Shopaholic) who I was always strangely attracted to. But its funny, because all the commercials focus on her or the Beek, but from the show description it sounds like Dreama Walker (Gossip Girl's Hazel, although you may know her as one of Clint Eastwood's A-hole grandkids in Gran Torino) is the other major character. FYI, she was my next favorite of Blair's minions after Penelope on GG S1.

Cool, just caught the trailer for BSG: Blood and Chrome, which takes place after Caprica but before BSG. Basically, it follows young Adama during the first Cylon war. Alas, given the bad taste left in many fans mouths by the BSG luddite BS ending, and the failure of Caprica, this show is being demoted to a webseries.

Which kinda sucks, because this looks totally bad-ass! I mean, its the first Cylon war, so gigantic space battles, humans fighting hulking cylon death machines. I watched Caprica all the way through, and while I thought it was passable entertainment, it was kinda boring. Its like gee, I wonder what people would rather see, space dogfights and soldiers fighting robots, or an hour of boring religious, social, and political commentary? Caprica even had the friggin Matrix in it, and they squandered that potential! I'm sure if you had more of Zoe kicking ass in there (particularly when she started becoming god there), more people would've tuned in.

TV commentary:

Being Human- Ha, when did Jacob from Lost get typecast as playing figments of people's imagination? Its amusing that Friday he came back as Sam's ChipLucifer (speaking of BSG, I'm amused that ChipSix never actually ended up being caused by a secret chip implanted in Baltar's head) and on this past Being Human, he was Aiden's ChipBishop.

Lost Girl- Honestly, Kenzi brought it on herself. I mean, who randomly just eats something lying around in a stranger's house without their permission? It could be poison, or some freak science experiment that only looks like food! And she knew she was going to the home of a Fae, and she knows the can be all creepy, so that would've been even more reason to not touch anything there.

Plus, the lady was cooking that soup the night before, and then she went to sleep and got sick. I figured they called in Doc lady hours later, and wouldn't she have turned off the burners by then (otherwise that would be a huge fire hazard!). And as such that would've been cold soup, and ew, who eats cold soup?!

NCIS- What's with the celebrity love interests being brought on these crime procedurals as of late? I mean, first Harry Connick Jr for Liv on SVU? Now Jamie Lee Curtis on NCIS?

Glee- I know what you're thinking, isn't he ever going to shut up about Rachel and Quinn already? So, here's a cut. )

Since Fox had canceled the Seth Mcfarlane portion of its Sunday night lineup last night because it had a "hurricane" theme going, which would be kinda awkward given the 200+ deaths from tornados last week (tornados, hurricanes, same diff), I was watching the USA Sunday night lineup. And as such, I was totally unaware about the Osama thing until this morning. Well, I did see a vague tweet mentioning Osama on my twitter feed last night, but it didn't explicitly say he was dead, and I apparently checked it right before twitter went crazy with the news. Heh, and some guy apparently live tweeted about the raid as it happened without even knowing it.

Heh, I noticed people are trying to make vague connections like Hitler was confirmed dead on May 1st, 1945 so look, Hitler and Osama died on the same day. I guess they switched it to confirmed dead to make the connection work since Hitler actually died on 4/30. But given the time diff, even though it was announced in the US on May 1st, wasn't Osama actually killed on May 2nd in Pakistan?

Hmm, as much as I enjoy the Fast and the Furious franchise, I guess I'm totally unaware of its popularity. I mean, I guess it has to be popular if they made 5 of them and are prolly making a 6th. But wow, an $83.5 million box office take, and 2nd place was only $14 million?

I still think frak is the superior nerd curse word. I think it flows well off the tongue and doesn't sound as weird or fake as things like frell and goram.

TV commentary:

Doctor Who- Hmm, interesting overarching plot for the season. spoiler cut )

Here's how much of an idiot I am when it comes to music. So, for the longest time, I only knew Death Cab for Cutie as that group Seth Cohen would babble about on the OC. Even worse, when people first started talking about the Cab, I thought people were going for the brevity thing and that was just some shortened way of saying that group's name, as opposed to it being a different group altogether.

Speaking of Death Cab for Cutie, "I Will Possess Your Heart" comes out as DLC tomorrow. Which I was thinking would be kinda boring for someone doing vocals since they don't get to sing until like three or four minutes in or something and its not like there's all that much to sing when you finally do (just a lot of the same). Although my sources tell me the DLC version is neither the full 8 minute album version nor the way shorter radio edit, but a special 5 and 1/2 minute version for the game.

Anyways, last night tried out the new "Exodus" expansion for BSG with the usual suspects. I thought it was a fun addition. I mean, there are new loyalty cards introduced, so in addition to cylon, not a cylon, cylon sympathizer, you can be "not a cylon" and have an agenda much like you would if you were playing one of the cylon leaders. You have to complete some task or get some event to happen or else lose some resource if its the end of the game and you have not completed it. There's also "Final Five" you are not a cylon cards, which can totally eff you up if you do something to look at a person's random loyalty cards, because they cause you to get executed or thrown in the brig or other nasty things if they are viewed.

But the new characters they added are Tory, Anders, Gaeta, and Cally. I tried Cally out, she's kinda amusing, since her once a game power is to execute someone in the same location as her (which I did get to use!), and you know how much I like getting to kill things in games. Though I didn't think her inability to play just 1 card (she has to play 2 or more, or none at all, though she doesn't have that caveat in the brig) during skill checks would be as big a pain in the ass as it was. Huh, I'm trying to think if all the major characters are playable now. At the very least, with the addition of Anders, all the Final Five are in the game.

We didn't play with Allies, but it looks a lot of the other major recurring characters were available as those, including my faves Seelix and Racetrack. But you also have that Kelly dude and Hoshi, Aussie Razor chick, Crashdown, Hot Dog, Cottle, Billy, Elosha, Romo Lampkin (still such an awesome name), De'anna, Simon, and Doral. Huh, I guess with the latter 3, that's all the cylons in the game?

There's also some complex ion cloud addition which we didn't play with as people said online that it sucked, but we did play with the cylon pursuit board.

But yeah, what else this weekend? Like I said, tried BSG last night, went to the gun range earlier that afternoon. Saturday night had dinner with the ex-roomie, [livejournal.com profile] psyched_out and his family (hadn't seen S+S and their kids in a while) at the Bone Garden before heading to [livejournal.com profile] zarathrustra94 and [livejournal.com profile] turdburgler's for elf slaying (though no actual elves were slain). And as I mentioned a couple posts ago, saw "Take Me Home Tonight" that afternoon, so it was actually a somewhat full weekend.

With the new TV season coming up, I guess I should chart out the shows I watch for posterity to make sure I'm not missing anything:

Sunday:
8:30: Cleveland Show
9:00: Family Guy
9:30: American Dad

(or at least I assume its still the Mcfarlane block from 8:30 to 10:00pm, I dunno if they're throwing in some new sitcom in lieu of one of the other shows for the start of the season.)

Monday:
8:00: House, Chuck, HIMYM, 90210
9:00: Gossip Girl, The Event (even though I still think the show title seems totally pretentious)
10:00: Hawaii Five-0, which I'll give a chance if only for having Boomer prance around in skimpy bikinis (Or I assume she will, otherwise this show is stupid)

Tuesday:
8:00: Glee, OTH, NCIS
9:00: Life Unexpected
10:00: Sons of Anarchy

I hear Caprica is moving to Tuesdays at some point.

Wednesday:
8:00: Undercovers
9:00: SVU, Modern Family
9:30: Cougar Town

Thursday:
8:00: Vampire Diaries, Community, Bones
8:30: 30 Rock? (Is this its new normal time?)
9:00: The Office, Fringe, Nikita
9:30: Outsourced? I dunno if its any good, but since I'm already watching the rest of Must See TV Thursday, might as well check it out.
10:00: Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia

Friday:
8:00: Smallville
9:00: Supernatural

Of course, I think there are more than a few shows missing from that list, like I only mention the cable shows I know for sure when they premiere. I have no idea when shows like Justified or Burn Notice come back up, nor when Walking Dead is starting up.

Hmm, season 1.5 of Caprica looks like it might be cool. Particularly with Tamara Adama and Zoe Graystone being all kick-ass in that "GTA/Matrix" place (which while the whole "deadwalker" thing is cool, I have to call shenanigans on, its like Adama's big sister was one of the forerunners of the Cylon movement?) Plus mob wars and the Soldiers of the One upping their game (and having philosphical disagreements amongst themselves), its like how many people will be fighting each other in January?!

Say what you will about original Egg, she does do some nice photo shoots. And can sure suck on a larley pop real good. qv('Alright!')

A comment by [livejournal.com profile] propace on FB sparked a convo about top TV characters one would want to bang. I've had a similar list on here before, but if its just want to do, I think my choices would change. I'd also have trouble settling on number one. So let's make it top 10, in no particular order:

1) Faith Lehane from Buffy/Angel
2) Saffron (yeah, I know that's not her real name, and Browncoats prefer referring to her as "Yosafbridge", but Saffron sounds hotter) from Firefly
3) Kate Austen from Lost
4) Starbuck from BSG (Kara Thrace, not Face from the A-Team!)
5) Remy "13" Hadley from House
6) Cerie Xerox from 30 Rock
7) Julie Taylor from Friday Night Lights (possibly in a threesome with her similarly lusciously melon-ed mother Tami)
8) Rory Gilmore from Gilmore Girls (again, possibly in a threesome with her blue-eyed, brunette mother, Lorelai, which I know breaks my similar heights/different hair rule, but I'm willing to make an exception)
9) Katherine Pierce (or I guess Elena Gilbert, though I'd prefer the vamp over her human doppleganger because I assume she'd be more naughty!) from Vampire Diaries
10) Santana Lopez from Glee (which would automatically include Brittany given their relationship)

Anyways, that convo sparked another convo about what TV characters would you actually want to date (surprisingly not started by me) but that list would go:

1) Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl
2) Rachel Berry from Glee
3) Annie Edison from Community
4) Taylor Townsend from the OC
5) Summer Roberts from the OC
6) Chloe O'Brian from 24 (Ida know, I've always been strangely attracted to her)
7) Chloe Sullivan from Smallville (I'd put the similar Veronica Mars, but she can be such a huge bitch at times, and not in the way I like!)
8) Elle Bishop from Heroes. (I know, isn't that a more insane and bitchier Kristen Bell character than the aforementioned Veronica Mars? What can I say, I'm a sucker for hot, broken girls)
9) Winifred Burkle from Angel
10) Adrianna Tate-Duncan from 90210

Is it odd that a good portion of my "want to do" list are sociopaths and/or killers, and my "deeper connection" list is mostly full of neurotics and weirdos, many of which have deep seated emotional and psychological issues?

So Entertainment Weekly posted their "10 Best Shows on TV right now":

10) Caprica
9) Damages
8) Southland
7) Glee
6) Modern Family
5) Fringe
4) Friday Night Lights
3) Lost
2) Breaking Bad
1) The Good Wife

I only watch half of those (the ones in bold), though I have been catching more of Modern Family as of late. I'm not surprised at anything but Southland and the Good Wife. I mean, Southland got shipped off to TNT from NBC, though I guess it was one of the casualties in NBC's retarded Leno gamble. As for the Good Wife, I haven't heard anything about it good or bad at all.

A certain crime procedural had me thinking about its plot this week. So if a bigamist dies, how do they handle his estate? [livejournal.com profile] clevemire theorizes they either split it 50/50 or the second marriage is declared invalid. But if its the latter, it seems kinda unfair for the second wife. Particularly if she didn't know he was previously married.
geebs: (Default)
Okay, this is actually pretty cool:

Heh, when [livejournal.com profile] clevemire saw Annie Wersching in the commercials for this season of 24 and then looked her up, he felt they pulled a switcheroo. Ida know, I think Warming Glow had some good pics of her today. I didn't realize she was that stacked, it isn't really evident on 24.

White Collar- So its the season finale. spoiler cut )

90210- I can't believe I've been enjoying this way more than Gossip Girl this season. spoiler cut )

So at work, a conversation about some company recalling a bunch of salami because it has salmonella turned into a discussion about curing techniques and some really fancy eye-talian meat or cheese. Which in turn reminded me of an episode of Archer (hilarious show, BTW) a few weeks ago, where the one guy says, "The citric acid cooks the fish". I was wondering if that was for real, and it is, he was referring to Ceviche. It does sounds intriguing, I think I'd like to try it one day.

When I was a kid, I used to hate seafood. But, some cutie forced me to try sushi, and I liked it. I eventually moved on to being able to eat cooked fish (again, because some cutie made me try it. Pretty much a lot of food I hated when I was a kid, I eventually tried and liked, because some cutie made me. Like eggs!), but I still prefer sushi to it. I dunno, cooked fish doesn't taste as good to me. This ceviche does sound appealing. (apparently, there's even Filipino ceviche?)

But heh, Archer does seem to drop random info like that. Like the fact that designer Hugo Boss made those cool looking Nazi uniforms. Now, I'm not saying Nazis are cool, but you have to admit they were pretty snappy dressers. Speaking of Nazis, I was reading this article on the 12 most controversial video games of all time, and I didn't realize that "Ethnic Cleansing" game was for real. I mean, that ep of SVU that first introduced Marcia Gay Harden's FBI character (oops, spoiler!), they reference a similar game, but I thought it sounded way too outlandish to be something that actually existed. But apparently it does. I guess they have referenced real video games before, like the GTA series (where the detectives make a break in the case because Stabler's son was at the station and saw some crime scene photos or something and he was all, "Oh, that's like (the SVU universe's analogue of GTA!)") and Second Life (where some girl is kidnapped because of the similarity of her avatar to some girl Locke's dad kidnapped years earlier. You know, whenever I see Kevin Tighe's name in credits, I always confuse him with Colonel Tigh.).

Speaking of video games, they revealed the final 3 new characters in the upcoming Super Street Fighter IV. As I said, the newest character they introduced, Juri, is a pretty awesome addition, (I mean, how can you not think she's cool from this anime-style trailer I've posted before.) but the other eight characters they added are returning from previous games. They already had Cammy and Fei Long from Super Street Fighter 2, but they had to complete the set by adding T Hawk and Dee Jay. And then there's Guy and Cody from Final Fight and the SF Alpha series, though I still think Cody's prison stripes look totally stupid. Couldn't they have put him in a smarter looking orange prison jumpsuit? And the last new one they had before this most recent announcement, was of course, Adon, who I always thought was cool.

But the newest three are from SF III. I was hoping for Alex, but between Zangief, Abel and El Fuerte (what's with all fighting games not only having a Bruce Lee looking guy, but a Rey Mysterio looking guy? I mean, doesn't Virtua Fighter and Dead or Alive both have Rey Mysterio analogues), and I suppose E Honda, they have enough grapplers. But, instead they have the ninja Ibuki (but isn't Guy a ninja?), the young karateka Makoto (again, isn't Sakura a short haired young girl who does karate?!) and Dudley (don't they already have a boxer with Balrog?).

But, anyways, there's a new character trailer out featuring the new Super SF IV characters from SF III.

TV commentary:

Supernatural- spoiler cut )

Smallville- Interesting, this ep was touted as the 2-hour ep featuring the former Justice Society, but what they don't mention is it also features Checkmate. So, of course, that also means Amanda Waller and Suicide Squad. Read more... )

Caprica- Wow, things aren't getting better for the Greystones. spoiler cut )

TV Commentary:

Dollhouse- So the end of the series. I still maintain people who watch the show, but didn't bother to pick up the DVDs to watch Epitaph One would've been totally confused. Interesting changes in the intervening years. spoiler cut )

Caprica- What's with Taurons and Fedora hats? Is that their thing in that universe? And wait, did I totally mishear things, or did Adama's uncle out himself? "I'd be hitting on some guy, and Joseph would pick up their sister". Or wait, did he mean literally hitting a guy, because he is kinda thuggish, and he was saying he'd be beating up some dude, and Adama would hook up with their sisters? And Atia and Andi from Kyle XY (Okay, Sister Clarice and Lacey) continue to seem to have a lesbianic vibe to their interactions. And weird, Jason Street is on this show? But getting back to Lacey, is it me, or did she look kinda cute in that kinda Amish dress she was wearing? spoiler cut )

Sporcle Quizzes:

Superhero Surnames- I only missed three- Swamp Thing's, because who the hell would know that, I didn't actually know Wonder Woman's (I kept thinking her last name was Troy, but that's Donna Troy from the Teen Titans), and for the life of me could not remember Iceman's.

Name the 12 Humanoid Cylon models- WTF, I did not actually get all of these! Well, the first thing that messed me up was that the number 7 model was a bonus one, and not one of the 12. I was like, "Wait, there are 12 models", but forgot that it was the final five and the original eight, but only 12 of them were on the show (oops, spoiler!). Amusingly enough, the nobody ones (4 and 5) came more easily to me than the obvious ones like 2. Like I struggled to remember his name and the first name of the white chick final fiver! In the end, I missed two, because I couldn't remember Xena's name (I kept thinking Diana? Deena? So close!) and totally forgot about the one male final fiver who didn't start out with the fleet. Still, embarassing! I can name random pilots and deckhands and wot-not, but can't remember actual main characters?!

What the frick, its a torrential downpour out there!

Heh, saw gametrailers posted a vid of Bayonetta's move set. I knew it was Devil May Cry-ish, but some of those moves are ridiculously over the top. She has rocket launchers strapped to her legs. And can use rocket launcher-tonfas!

And there's a new trailer for The Plan out. It does look interesting, revisiting the series from the Cylon side of things? Heh, does it make me a geek that I actually recognize some of the events referenced by those short two or three second clips in the trailer? spoiler cut )

Saw The Hangover today then had dinner at Roaster's with the usual suspects. The Hangover was pretty hilarious, definitely a funny movie.

After dinner, finally saw the Caprica movie. I'm guessing the version that Sci Fi will eventually show will be cut/censored, given that it starts with an orgy of sex and violence. No, not figuratively, a literal orgy, with breasts and bare ass all over the place. spcv('Nice!') So that's what Caprican kids did for fun back in the day! How tawdry, salacious, and altogether lascivious. spoiler cut )
