Oh weird! So back in the day, I remember hearing about this hot chick from this series of body spray commercials being in an upcoming (at the time) show on comedy central called "Not Another High School Show". It was a parody of all the teen shows at the time, with her character playing "Spring", a version of Rachel Bilson's character from "the OC." I hadn't heard anything about it since, so I figured it wasn't picked up.

Cut to today, where someone posts a clip from the pilot: (and hey, there's the aforementioned chick at the :50 second mark)

Why did they post it, because apparently Alison Brie was on it playing a buffy type character? Also, Jennifer Lawrence shows up as a random passerby at the 1:42 mark. So the site is all, look at this pilot from years ago where beloved by the internet geekdom actresses Alison Brie and Jennifer Lawrence were on.

That is so weird to see those two in something like this! But I guess plenty of famous actors and actresses do lame projects before they hit it big.

So [livejournal.com profile] clevemire was telling me about this list he saw of the 50 most (over?)-used songs in TV and movies. And there were 2 he didn't recognize- "Fade Into You" by Mazzy Star and "Have a Little Faith in Me" by John Hiatt. Only, he couldn't remember the names when he was first telling me about it. But for "Fade Into You", he did mention a linked youtube video of scenes that used the song. One of which was Rory and Dean at a dance. Which, I accidentally first guessed the Sundays' cover of "Wild Horses", but thats the song Buffy and Angel danced to at prom. Then I remembered it was actually that Mazzy Star song. He had to look up later what the "piano"-y song was, which was "Have A Little Faith in Me".

Which I also did know as well from one of my ghey-ass shows, Dawson's Creek. To me, its the song playing in the series finale when Pacey kissed Joey at Dawson's moms second wedding, to make it clear to Virginia Madsen that it was over between them. But, since most of the songs in that ep where iconic songs from throughout the series, it was also used for some Dawson-Joey kiss way back in season two. But given I'm a PJ-shipper all the way, I choose to associate it with that scene.

TV commentary:

The Originals- Heh, Hayley and Rebekah finally meet, and weird, I guess it is the first time Phoebe Tonkin and Claire Holt had a scene together after all this time playing characters in this universe. Which is amusing because they were both on H2O in Australia when they were younger, so I figured they would meet and have some sort of clever nod back in last season of The Vampire Diaries. But nope, its not until now that they have a scene. spoiler cut )

Finally saw Joss Whedon's "Much Ado About Nothing". Its a cute little movie, and Amy Acker looks mad cute, as per usual. Lots of people from Whedon stuff- besides Wesley and Fred, there's Coulson, Castle, Topher, Simon Tam, Reed Diamond, Tom Lenk, as well as Chrissy Seaver, Finn's mom, the kid from Gladiator (what the hell, he's like grown up now!) and whichever of Garfunkel and Oates that's not on Raising Hope. (is it confusing to mix characters names with actors names when listing? Or saying Castle, instead of saying roles Nathan Fillion had in actual Whedon productions, like Mal or Captain Hammer?)

I'm not familiar with the play, nor the movie from the 90s, but I hear its pretty true to the source (despite taking place in modern times), with one supposedly subtle change, but more than that later. Since they talk in that old English style, I had a little trouble following. Like Nathan Fillion is playing Dogberry, who in the original play uses a lot of malapropisms. And like I caught some of them, but I have no idea if there were some I just failed to pick up on because they're talking all Shakespearean and shit.

But I got the gist of the movie, even if there were some dialogue I found hard to understand. Benedict (Alexis Denisof) and Beatrice (Amy Acker) hate each other, but some of their insults, I was all, "what the hell are they talking about?" And then their friends think they are way too obsessed with each other, and with nothing else to do, decide to trick them into falling in love with each other. Here's the change I hear that was subtly introduced in the beginning of the movie- Benedict and Beatrice had a former dalliance, but I guess it ended badly, which is why they're always insulting each other? Whereas in the original work, I guess they just hated each other? It was totally cute how dorky they got when they thought the other was in love with them. And then in the end, with the scheme revealed, even though they totally are in love with each other now, they still try to deny it, but thankfully finally admit their feelings.

But I guess the overarching story was that Don Pedro (Reed Diamond), Claudio (Fran Kranz), Benedict, and Don Pedro's brother, Don John (Sean Maher) visit Leonato's (Clark Gregg) villa, whereupon Claudio falls in love with Leonato's daughter Hero (Jillian Morgese). And all the while Benedict and Beatrice (who is Leonato's niece) talk shit about each other. Claudio asks for Hero's hand in marriage, and as I said previously, out of boredom since they apparently don't have anything better to do before the wedding, the rest of them decide to get Beatrice and Benedict together.

Well, Don John has other plans. He wants to ruin the wedding, so he sends his man Borachio (Spencer Treat Clark) to bang Hero's maid Margaret (Ashley Johnson) in Hero's room, while wearing one of her dresses. And Don John's all, "Oh, your betrothed is a slut! Don't believe me, spy on her window tonight!" So they do and Claudio and Don Pedro are livid. So Claudio for some reason the best way to handle it is to go through with the ceremony, but then publicly embarrass her. Like he's all weird and awkward, and everyone thinks its some sort of weird joke, but then he goes to Leonato, "Take your whore daughter back, because she's a whore!" She faints over the whole deal and Claudio and Don Pedro take their leave

And what the frick, I suppose it was olden times, but instead of believing his daughter, since Don Pedro and Claudio are men of honor and thus would never make something up (or be wrong!?), he's basically, I wish you were dead for bringing shame upon the family. Its like, screw these dicks! You're going to believe them over your daughter? And you wish her dead?! Eventually he relents, but still! In any case, the priest is all, "She should pretend to be dead and then if Claudio really loves her, he'll feel totally bad!"

Meanwhile some constables happen upon Borachio telling Conrade (Riki Lindhome) the scheme, so they arrest them and Dogberry and Verges (Tom Lenk) get the whole story and tell Don Pedro. Meanwhile, Beatrice is all, "if you really love me, you'll kill Claudio for slandering my kinswoman!" to Benedict. At first he's all, "That's crazy, plus, he's my friend!" but eventually he acquiesces because he does love her. Which is kinda disturbing for a romantic comedy- "Oh, this guy totally humiliated my cousin! Hey, guy who I used to hate but now love, if you want to prove you love me (and show that you're a real man!), you'll kill your friend!" But I guess that was more acceptable back then or something?

And its like, after Don Pedro finds out the truth, there's no scene where they tell B&B what happened! He did like challenge his friend, and its good he was all, "I shall duel you on the morrow!" because one could have killed the other, making this romantic comedy take like a dark and tragic turn. But yeah, when Don Pedro and Claudio go to see Leonato after Benedict's challenge, since he revealed Hero is dead, he's all, "See, you were tricked by your brother schemes! Thanks for killing my daughter, dicks!" So they're all wanting to do anything to make up for it. Leonato is all, "If you want to make up for it, you'll marry my other niece whom you have not met and no one has ever mentioned up to this point (but is really Hero in disguise)!"

Claudio agrees, and on the day of, they're all, "Gotcha! Even though you publicly shamed my daughter, the fact that you were willing to force yourself into an arrange marriage makes everything alright!" And then Benedict and Beatrice wait for the other to make some big overture to the other and ask the other to reveal their love, but they're both being stubborn asses, so the rest of the gang have to show them letters the other wrote talking about how in lurve they are with each other! So its two weddings!

But like I said, despite me knocking some parts of the story, I did enjoy it.

TV commentary:

The Americans- Intriguing show so far. Though it still weirds me out it started with Felicity blowing some guy. I wonder if the 80s soundtrack will be a thing. Tusk was time appropriate, but at first I thought In The Air Tonight wasn't, but apparently that came out in 1979. Also, if the FBI were on to them, why would the new neighbors be all, "Hey, we're you're new neighbor, BTW, I'm in FBI counter-intelligence!" Granted, the FBI guy is on to them, but that was after, and just personal suspicion. Why would someone looking into you be all, "We're the people who hunt folks like you!" Of course, I don't think a guy who does counter-intel for the FBI would ever say that's what he does. I mean, telling people he's a fed seems fine, but I would think counter-intel is a sensitive enough position you wouldn't be telling random people that.

Raising Hope- I was going to say, what was with the weird "Yes, Dear" crossover, but I didn't realize the guy who made "Raising Hope" and "My Name is Earl" also did "Yes, Dear". Though were they actually supposed to be those characters, they had the same names, and talked about moving into their brother in law's guest house.

Justified- But this makes two shows Mike O'Malley was on tonight. And weird, with both his TV wives too! Because Finn's mom was also in tonight's ep, as a lawyer. And Stephen Toblowsky makes 3 Glee characters in this ep. Lots of guest stars tonight, them, Gerald Mcraney, Patton Oswalt again, General Beckman from Chuck, Filthy Phil from SoA. Also, weird, the actress who plays the chick Patton Oswalt stabbed in the foot is actually 25? (I did not realize she was young Judy Greer in 13 Going on 30, but I can kinda see that now)

But color me surprised, I figured it was werepanther girl who has Ellie May, but it was Bobby from Supernatural.

The Following- When are they going to learn, maybe they shouldn't have just one person watching anyone? Hopefully, after the 2nd or 3rd cop who's gotten killed because the person they were protecting was secretly a bad guy they'll be more wary. Well, then again, I guess some of those deaths were by fellow police or people pretending to be police. Which is prolly why they were trying to be more insular and had only "trusted" people watching folks? Maybe they can have three people in every room with a protected witness at all times. That way, they can gang up on the witness if they witness is really bad, but also, with three guards, what are the chances more than one of them is a follower?

ME Blather- Aw, the guy who voiced Zaeed died the other day. He definitely made him sound bad-ass. And how did I not know he was also Ethan Rayne on Buffy?

Thing that has blown my mind for today: Jeremy Renner was Penn on Angel! So ND was making a comment about not realizing Hawkeye was in the new Bourne movie. So I decided to imdb him to see what the first thing I saw him in- I was thinking 28 Weeks Later, but SWAT was before that. But as it turns out, it was Angel! What the frick, and that's one of my favorite episodes too! It was the ep where Kate first finds out about Angel- someone has been killing people, and they think its Angel at first, but they eventually figure out its some random protege he had when he apparently wasn't hanging out with Darla, Spike, and Drusilla (and that random couple from the 3rd season premiere who they acted like had a history with Angelus and Darla). But I digress, I just thought the ep was cool, because on the show (and BtVS) up to that point, they've only shown regular people (not counting Slayer and friends) being attacked by vamps. I just thought it was interesting to see him stroll into the police station and wipe the floor with everyone there to showcase how dangerous vamps really are.

But I digress again, like I said, thinking about it now, that totally was Jeremy Renner! It just blows my mind he was doing random guest spots on Angel. But I guess everyone has to get their start somewhere. Amusingly enough, he's not the only person from MI:4 to randomly appear on Angel, lest we forget before Sawyer was on Lost, he was a random vampire who Angel dusts in the pilot for Angel.

Oh, Renner was also in an ep of Time of Your Life, which as I think I posted about a few months ago, I totally forgot existed. Time of Your Life being the JLH-centered spinoff of Party of Five (pgv('What the hell is Party of Five?!')). Once I started recalling it, I remembered that Jennifer Garner was on it after Felicity but before Alias. But I had no recollection of Pauly Perrette being on it. I mean, its hard to imagine her as anything but Abby on NCIS.

So, this latest blind item from Crazy Days and Nights has me totally curious, since it seems like something I should be able to figure out. This is one of the ones they'll actually reveal in a couple of weeks, so I guess I can wait and see.

But the big clues are B-list actress who's done TV and movies, and was on a huge hit for an almost network. So that makes me think she's someone on a CW show. Also, apparently that people at Comic Con would be totally buzzing if they knew of this. So, I can only think of a couple of shows that are 1) considered a hit for the CW and 2) would be something folks at Comic Con would care about. Narrowing it down further is it has to have two chicks at least one of whom is foreign born, who are best friends in real life. That eliminates Supernatural, leaving the only other sci-fi fantasy "hits" (for the CW/WB that is) as Smallville and Vampire Diaries. Although I guess Buffy and Charmed fit the bit as well. (Hey, Charmed isn't nearly as respected as Buffy, but it was on for friggin twice as long!)

My first thought was Vampire Diaries. Nina Dobrev and Katerina Graham are both foreign born and friends in real life so either could be the actress they refer to, and the other the friend. Though I can't imagine Ian Somerhalder being some sort of pervy pedo.

The comments seem to make a case for Alison Mack, and her foreign born best friend would be Canadian Kristin Kreuk. Because apparently Alison Mack is dating a cult leader currently? They didn't make it sound like this guy was a celeb, but if he's getting a lot of action, some of which are teens, cult leader seems to fit the bill.

And looking into this more, the fact that Alison Mack is dating a cult leader makes me sad. I mean, she seems like she'd be cool in real life, but apparently not! Actually the fact that Ali Mack and KK are in this NXIVM cult is disappointing.

Another blind item I'm curious about is this one. People seem to think its Bella Thorne. People in the comments have a point though, regardless of who it is, if this item is indeed true, it shouldn't be gossip, it should be reported to the cops!

So there's a Buffy the Vampire Slayer pr0n parody coming out:

I'm surprised it taken this long to make one. This one stars one of my favorite pr0n chyx, the mad cute Lexi Belle (though she'd rank higher on my list if she did "certain things") as Buffy.

Speaking of cute chyx playing Buffy, how the hell did this video turn into a rumor of Aubrey Plaza playing Buffy in a Buffy re-boot? Also, so that's the name of the guy who plays Gabe in the Office? I like saw "The Office" in parentheses and was thinking, who the hell is that, and then I realized Gabe is the only person it could possibly be because I'd recognize everyone else's names. Speaking of the Office, I had no idea Jenna Fischer played a college chick on Undeclared, which I learned from this article the other day of 20 celebrities who got their start on a Judd Apatow show. I had no idea Apatow was involved in the Ben Stiller or Larry Sanders shows.

Anyways, back to the Buffy pr0n, I'm surprised they have the characters they have. I mean, Buffy, Willow, Xander, Giles, and Angel are givens. Maybe Spike. But it was a surprise that they had Harmony and Jenny Calendar. No Tara or Kennedy for some HLA? Or Dawn for some total wrongness? I couldn't tell if some of those vampire chyx were supposed to be Darla or Drusilla, or if they're just randoms. Was there a Cordy? Or a Faith, that would've been hott. Especially if they reenacted that one Faith story that Xander said they should show every Christmas (you know the one I'm talking about)

Alas, since Lexi Belle doesn't do "certain things", I guess there's no devil's threesomes with Buffy and Angel and Spike (which Buffy did actually fantasize about in the Buffy season 8 comic, so its not like it would be something they pulled totally out of their ass)?

Oh, and I forgot to mention, I got a @reply from one of my favorite actresses on twitter today, so that was cool. She had tweeted about the latest Glee ep, and I basically just responded how awesome it was that she was a hot gamer girl who watches Glee, and was on the OC and one of the Fast and Furious movies. She thanked me for the complement and mentioned that she watches a lot of TV. I think I've said this before, but a hot chick who plays video games and watches a lot of TV (especially Glee) and was on one of my favorite teen dramas? She's like my perfect woman!

Actually, I guess my perfect woman would also have to love karaoke (hey, I need a duet partner!) and shooting guns and junk food and I don't know if she does.
geebs: (Default)
OMG, I did not realize Peeta was the friggin' kid in Little Manhattan! I dunno why I find that so weird, but it is. I guess its partly because I didn't realize Josh Hutcherson was that young, and I guess that movie was actually 7 years ago.

TV commentary:

Supernatural- Hey, its Cindy from Just the Ten of Us! Alas, she's gotten old! I mean, she's still kinda attractive. But I was skeptical when Sam and Dean were looking for her and were all, "Have you seen this 30s-ish lady?" Its like, she's not in her 30s, nor can she pass for that! Of course, I'm thinking maybe part of that was because she was playing a ghost, and she was supposed to look a little haggard. Though it didn't seem like they had made Bobby look a little more "ghostly".

In Plain Sight- Say goodbye to one of TV's most beloved characters?! What's the USA promo smoking?! Since when is Mary Shannon one of TV's most beloved characters?!

But ugh, I guess since there's only two eps left, they're trying to put Mary and Marshall together quickly? I was rolling my eyes when he was talking with his father who was all, "Abigail is the kinda girl you take home to your parents! But, if you're running off to be there for Mary at 4am in the morning, that must mean something!" So I guess he's gonna end up dumping Abby for Mary soon?

And what the hell? They were asking Mary, how do you know your dad is going to kill Sully, weren't his heists no killing? Gee, maybe because the guy supposedly just shot his son, not!Iceman? Which BTW, is totally weird that the one brother was Iceman, but then its his twin that did all the TV shows like this, Veronica Mars, Warehouse 13, Smallville (well they both did Smallville, but Aaron was there longer as Jimmy, Shawn just had a couple of guest spots) I mean, it seems like those actors who have twins, like Xander from Buffy or Brittany Daniels, only one of them is in acting and the other is doing something else. One brother doing TV while the other does movies is interesting. Did they purposely do that, so they wouldn't interfere with each other's careers?

But I digress, since we didn't see him get shot, I'm skeptical! Also, I thought that other Marshall chick secured him? I mean, Sully did mention having a leak in the FBI, but since he was in protective custody, shouldn't they worry about what happened to the people watching him as well. Particularly Delia? Interestingly enough though, Sully said he had someone in the FBI, so I'm thinking I may be off base, but could Delia be the leak? She's a marshall though, but didn't she take a couple of mysterious phone calls in the ep? I mean, leak + character taking a call that we're not privy to is kinda suspicious!

So apparently the First Annual tumblr TV awards are going on right now. So in the best ship categories its down to 5 couples: Faberry and Britanna from Glee, Sherlock and Watson on Sherlock, Dean and Cas from Supernatural, and Dair from Gossip Girl. Like this year's E!-online poll, only one of the finalists is a straight couple, but the rest are same-sex. Which is an interesting trend. Is it that people who vote in such polls (or are vocal about "shipping") tend to favor same-sex couplings?

And is it a sign that the world is more accepting of homosexuality, or that those that are accepting have cornered modern media? Of course, another data point is of those 4 same sex couples, only 1 of those (Santana and Brittany) are an actual gay couple. The rest are non-canon. And among those three, only in the Sherlock/Watson case did the show have characters outright ask them, "Are you guys gay for each other?" The other two couplings are just supposed subtext and only in the minds of some viewers.

The finalists in the other categories that are still open: under a cut )

It looks like voting has either ended on the other categories (or hasn't entered final voting)

So AfterEllen posted their Top 50 Female TV characters list. I'll list the ones I've heard of: (though I don't necessarily watch all these shows)

50) Bianca Montgomery, All My Chidren
49) Sydney Bristow, Alias
48) Lisa Simpson, The Simpsons
47) Emily Prentiss, Criminal Minds
45) Sue Sylvester, Glee
44) River Song, Doctor Who
40) Effy Stonem, Skins
39) Temperance Brennan, Bones
38) Spencer Hastings, Pretty Little Liars
37) Spencer Carlin, South of Nowhere
36) Lorelai Gilmore, Gilmore Girls
35) Bo Dennis, Lost Girl
33) Olivia Dunham, Fringe
32) Gabrielle, Xena
29) Casey Novak, SVU
28) Cara Mason, Legend of the Seeker
27) Myka Bering, Warehouse 13
26) Helena G Wells, Warehouse 13
25) Kahlan Amnell, Legend of the Seeker
22) Leslie Knope, Parks and Recreation
20) Dana Scully, The X-files
19) Brittany S Pierce, Glee
18) Rachel Berry, Glee
17) Kate Beckett, Castle
16) Olivia Benson, SVU
15) Liz Lemon, 30 Rock
14) Veronica Mars, Veronica Mars
13) Quinn Fabray, Glee
12) Willow Rosenberg, Buffy the Vampire Slayer
11) Maura Isles, Rizzoli and Isles
9) Jane Rizzoli, Rizzoli and Isles
8) Naomi Campbell, Skins
7) Callie Torres, Grey's Anatomy
6) Emily Fields, Pretty Little Lairs
5) Buffy Summers, Buffy the Vampire Slayer
4) Emily Fitch, Skins
3) Xena, Xena
2) Arizona Robbins, Grey's Anatomy
1) Santana Lopez, Glee

Heh, I'm amused that Faberritana are all on the top 20. Because when I imagine Faberry, I also imagine Britanna along side them. No, not in that way! Well, I mean, that would also be hott, but I meant the two couples being close friends!

Anyways, I guess this is their "of all time" lists, since several of the mentioned characters are on shows that have been long since off the air? I'm not surprised Emily from PLL is in the top 10, nor Naomily from Skins, nor Callie and Arizona from Grey's. (Since I don't watch Grey's, what are Callie and Arizona's portmanteau?)

I didn't realize Rizzoli and Isles were so popular amongst the lesbian community. Or that of all apparently Casey was the favored L&O SVU DA? I figured people liked Alex better, that's why they brought her back? And while I think Buffy, Willow, Gaby and Xena's inclusion on this list were a given, I didn't realize Legend of the Seeker was a popular enough show to have both Kahlan and Cara both on here.

So I just read the latest ish of Buffy. spoiler cut )

Ha, so it looks like that E! Poll is down to the final four. I correctly guessed the winners would be Britanna, Jannie, Destiel, and Faberry. However, they switched it up and put Britanna against Faberry. So right now its looking like the finals will be Faberry against Destiel. But, heh, I am getting more suspicious that E! doesn't want that, because this year they've instituted a "wild card" vote from Twitter to let people vote for any of the previous couples that might have lost.

Hmm, so in addition to releasing the songs the Friday before, now the show has started releasing some of the performances from the next ep on youtube? Its odd that Fox does the stupid 8 day delay for non-Dish/non Hulu-plus subscribers on all their shows, but they're fine with releasing the actual musical numbers beforehand? I guess they're trying to generate buzz. In any case, here's Brit doing Beyonce's "Run the World":

For one thing, just like when Rachel did Rihanna's "Take a Bow" way back in season one, this is one of those songs where I prefer Glee's version to the original. Though that seems to be the case with a lot of the more Urban music they do. Also, as I've said countless times before, HeMo looks infinitely hotter with her hair down. And finally, how the hell does Kurt have a chance in hell of winning the election after this? The chyx feel all empowered, and the dudes are mesmerized by the hotness.

Speaking of hotness. decided to try my hand at a "Hottest list". I've always found it very difficult to narrow things down to a certain number. But decided to just sit down and look at a list of all the TV shows I watch regularly, the music I listen to, the movies I've seen, other "hottest lists" and first grab all the ladies I liked on those, then take that list and whittle it down to 50 by choosing the ones I felt more strongly towards.

I don't want to say its a "50 hottest chyx list", perhaps it would be more accurate to call it my top 50 favorite hottest chyx: (in no particular order, because its hard enough shortening the list to just 50. Having to order them to would be un-possible!) under the cut )

I was too lazy to actually link to pics. If you're reading this, you have access to the net. If you're curious what one of them looks like, google it yourself! In any case, I put their ages next to them just to help me with seeing trends.

And what trends did I find? Well, I have a definite preference for brunettes- of the 50, 33 are dark haired, with only 10 blonds and 7 redheads. And it should be no surprise I favor the snowflakes- 44/50 are white, with the last 6 being equally split between Latina and Asian. Of course, I didn't count Alexis Bledel as Hispanic, even though she actually is, despite her fair skin and blue eyes. Odette Yustman might actually count as Hispanic also. But chyx like Selena Gomez and Kristin Kreuk are practically snowflakes so the numbers are nebulous.

Age-wise, only 2 are under 20 (but still over 18), with 27 in their 20s, 20 in their 30s, and 1 in her 40s. (Hmm, I wonder if I plotted it out, would it look like a bell curve?) It should be no surprise that 43 of them are younger than me, but hey 7 older, that's not too bad. Though I guess 29 of them were playing high school age characters when they first came to my attention. (Although I shouldn't really count Evangeline Lily, because I first had the hots for her on Lost, and it was only later that I found out she was an extra in Freddy vs Jason. But technically, the first thing I saw her in, she was playing a HS-er)

3 more entries until my 4000th post. So since zombie levels are all the rage nowadays for online FPSes, looks like Call of Duty: Black Ops has one coming out, Call of the Dead:

So its a 4 person squad, Left 4 Dead style, and I'll give the game props for who they got to be in this- Danny Trejo, Sarah Michelle Gallar, Robert Englund, and Michael Rooker (Merle from The Walking Dead. I know he's been in other stuff, but he's not as famous as Machete, Buffy or Freddy friggin Krueger.) And a cameo by George Romero himself as well? Is it me, or does zombie Romero look a little like Stan Lee. But I digress. I wouldn't say they're a zombie killing "dream team", but it is a cast with decent of cred in the action and horror communities.

I'm also a little surprised SMG would be in such a thing, but I guess it is a paycheck.

Sporcle quizzes:

Can you name the roles played by Joss Whedon's often used actors and actresses in his projects? Argh, only 16 out of 27! I friggin suck. I didn't get any of the roles played by Carlos Jacott, Andy Umberger and Jonathan Woodward, but it was only the last one who's name sounded familiar. When I saw his roles, I was at least, "Oh, its that guy!". The Andy guy, I recognize the Buffy character but not the Angel one. As for Carlos, I have no idea at all who the frick those characters are!

What I'm really kicking myself for missing is Summer Glau's character on Dollhouse (I knew it was something unisex sounding), Nathan Fillon's Buffy character (I at least remembered it was somethng biblical sounding), and Felicia Day's character on Dollhouse (heh, I was close, it ended up rhyming with what I kept thinking it was). This kinda of quiz is supposed to be my bag!

Name the 2000s song from the music without the lyrics- 20 out of 36. Better than I was expecting at least!

A comment by [livejournal.com profile] propace on FB sparked a convo about top TV characters one would want to bang. I've had a similar list on here before, but if its just want to do, I think my choices would change. I'd also have trouble settling on number one. So let's make it top 10, in no particular order:

1) Faith Lehane from Buffy/Angel
2) Saffron (yeah, I know that's not her real name, and Browncoats prefer referring to her as "Yosafbridge", but Saffron sounds hotter) from Firefly
3) Kate Austen from Lost
4) Starbuck from BSG (Kara Thrace, not Face from the A-Team!)
5) Remy "13" Hadley from House
6) Cerie Xerox from 30 Rock
7) Julie Taylor from Friday Night Lights (possibly in a threesome with her similarly lusciously melon-ed mother Tami)
8) Rory Gilmore from Gilmore Girls (again, possibly in a threesome with her blue-eyed, brunette mother, Lorelai, which I know breaks my similar heights/different hair rule, but I'm willing to make an exception)
9) Katherine Pierce (or I guess Elena Gilbert, though I'd prefer the vamp over her human doppleganger because I assume she'd be more naughty!) from Vampire Diaries
10) Santana Lopez from Glee (which would automatically include Brittany given their relationship)

Anyways, that convo sparked another convo about what TV characters would you actually want to date (surprisingly not started by me) but that list would go:

1) Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl
2) Rachel Berry from Glee
3) Annie Edison from Community
4) Taylor Townsend from the OC
5) Summer Roberts from the OC
6) Chloe O'Brian from 24 (Ida know, I've always been strangely attracted to her)
7) Chloe Sullivan from Smallville (I'd put the similar Veronica Mars, but she can be such a huge bitch at times, and not in the way I like!)
8) Elle Bishop from Heroes. (I know, isn't that a more insane and bitchier Kristen Bell character than the aforementioned Veronica Mars? What can I say, I'm a sucker for hot, broken girls)
9) Winifred Burkle from Angel
10) Adrianna Tate-Duncan from 90210

Is it odd that a good portion of my "want to do" list are sociopaths and/or killers, and my "deeper connection" list is mostly full of neurotics and weirdos, many of which have deep seated emotional and psychological issues?

TV Commentary:

Buffy- Okay, not technically a TV show anymore, but they do refer to the comic as Season 8 so close enough. spoiler cut )

Dollhouse- spoiler cut )

Geez, its been getting colder in here as of late. WTF?! And I could not drift off to sleep before midnight no matter how hard I tried. I swear, when I lie there thinking about the time and how I'm not gonna get enough sleep, it makes it even harder to fall asleep.

TV commentary:

Buffy Season 8- Technically not a TV show anymore, but since its canon (and written by the former writing staff, this current arc is by Jane Espenson), I'll throw it in here. Though is it really proper to call it season 8 though? Its been going on a couple of years now, and enough stuff has happened that if it were translated back into TV, it would be more than a season.

One thing annoying about the comic though is that I sometimes can't tell characters apart, particularly since they don't look like their TV counterparts. Obviously, some I have no problem with identifying Xander (b/c of the eyepatch) or Giles (b/c of the glasses) or Warren (b/c of the lack of skin). And for the most part I can pick up on Buffy and Willow. People like Dawn, Faith, and Kennedy, I can't tell its actually them until I get some frame of reference. I mean, if you told me to pick out Andrew, Riley, or Oz right now in the comic, without having any dialogue boxes, I don't think I could do it.

But woah, there's one thing that came as a shocker in this latest ish. I can't believe they went there. huge spoiler cut )

10 Things I Hate About You- Again, the whole Joey and Cameron diffs from the movie are disconcerting. I mean, Joey's "Fivehead" nickname for Bianca is cute, particularly since he doesn't see it as an insult, while Cameron's ultimatum comes off as creepy. It was fine in the movie for Cameron to tell Bianca off, but I dunno if its because its only a half hour show, but we rarely see any evidence of their actual friendship. I mean, if there was more of the way he was in "Dance Little Sister" (well, before you found out he stole that guy's phone), their friendship would be more believable. But her being all, "You're my best friend!" just rings a little false. spoiler cut )

90210- Interesting bunch of changes this season. spoiler cut )

So my sources say Josh Schwartz is gonna have the OC and Gossip Girl crossover? Well, have them exist in the same universe. He could go for his show trifecta and throw Chuck in there as well, but while I can see the OC and Gossip Girl going together, Chuck would not. But yeah, my sources tell me they're thinking of having a young Lily (apparently the pilot is already being filmed, with Brittany Snow as young Lily, and Krysten Ritter is in it as well?) interacting with a young Kirsten Cohen (well, I guess that would be Nichols) and Jimmy Cooper, and possibly young Julie Cooper as well, though I can't see how that would work. It always seemed to me that Jimmy didn't get with Julie until long after Kiki dumped him, and I thought they got married because she was knocked up with Marissa. And wasn't she 18 at the time, so unless Jimmy was a pervert, they couldn't have been going out for too long. So for Marissa and Seth to be the same age, the Coopers couldn't have been going out until Kirsten and Sandy had been together for a while.

But I digress. What if other shows made by the same creator existed in the same universe? The David E Kelley stuff, didn't Boston Public, the Practice/Boston Legal, and Ally Mcbeal all exist in the same world? Like I think Joss could make it so either Buffy/Angel or Dollhouse existed in the same universe as Firefly (though I don't think Buffy/Angel and Dollhouse being the same world would work). I'd throw Dr. Horrible in there as well, but I think they've hinted very heavily that it takes place in the same universe as The Tick. Although one could geekily argue that the Buffyverse is the same as the Firefly-verse through the Alien: Resurrection connection. (which Joss wrote). Weyland-Yutani is the corporation in the Alien series, whom Wolfram & Hart listed as a famous client in the 5th season of Angel, and more than a few of the weapons in Firefly have the Weyland-Yutani logo on it.

But heh, I don't think it would be too far fetched for Alias, Lost, Fringe, and Felicity to exist in the same universe. After all, Driveshaft does exist in the first two. And Felicity has had mystical elements (the deus ex machina spell Meghan cast first season that broke Felicity and the Gnoll up and hooked her up with Ben, and of course Felicity going back in time and reliving her senior year of college). So I don't think there's anything preventing those shows from taking place in the same universe. Like I don't think the weird stuff in Alias, Fringe, or Lost really contradicts each other. Hey, I totally think Rambaldi, the Island, and the Pattern could exist in the same world without stepping on each others toes.

TV commentary:

Smallville- I was complaining about how terrible this show was last week, but I will say I do like how they're doing the whole Doomsday storyline, making it more like an evil-Hulk kinda thing. When the show isn't about Clark moping about his secret life and how he can never tell Lana (now Lois), it isn't too bad. spoiler cut )

Supernatural- Interesting ep of Supernatural last night. As I've said, I like the addition of angels to the mythology. I guess this is kinda blasphemous, but I've always found the whole angel or angels doing something bad out of jealousy of the human race, being all they're the most loyal, but humans are the big G's favored creation even though many don't even acknowledge him and do all sorts of things against his will, to be an interesting storyline. spoiler cuts )

The Office- Wow, some crazy developments in the Office as well. spoiler cut )

Had the usual suspects over for Lost. The roomie cooked up a Shepherd's pie, though is it still pie when it comes in a casserole tray? Anyways, hadn't tried it before, surprisingly. I mean, its a pie full of meat, why hadn't I tried such a thing? I liked it.

Oh, read the latest Buffy ish. spoiler comments )

Again, I'm alone today. WTF?! People being on vacation for more than a week and then calling in sick the day they're supposed to get back? cliffV('what's up with that?!') I was feeling a little overwhelmed because there were all these little things popping up, and not only was I shorthanded (anyone who could help was either not in yet or had to go to a morning meeting), there was a machine annoyingly beeping that would not shut the frick up. I guess the others did not realize they could e-mail someone who could take care of that beep.

Well, there were those issues, but I have the CCNA semester 2 final next week as well. [livejournal.com profile] clevemire mentioned doing the practice final which had me worring about that. So, I wanted to start looking over that because I'm not feeling so confident in my knowledge of the material. But then I took it "cold" to see where I was, and got an 86, so I guess I know it better than I thought. And with that as a point of reference, I can see what I did wrong to better focus my reviewing. There's also that programming 5 routers in 45 minutes skills test today, but I'm confident in that. I better not get cocky though.

Anyways, Bastardly had some pics up of Jenna Von Oy yesterday (you know, Six from Blossom) for some reason (like what has she done recently? I mean, even the Parkers is long gone). So she looked kinda hot in the first couple of pics, but afterwards, not so much. What happened?!

Oh, read the latest issue of Buffy season 8. I knew it was gonna be a Faith arc, so I was egg-cited. She is, after all, my favorite character from the series. Anyways, I liked it, I'm already engrossed in the storyline after the first issue in the arc. BTW, [livejournal.com profile] clevemire, that arc is done by that Brian K Vaughan guy.
