Sherlock- Heh, I knew this was coming, but thankfully
isabel79 reminded me this was on last night. I guess its because I presumed this would be on BBC America since it was a British show so I hadn't seen it on the guide, but I forgot this shows on PBS instead. So I set the DVR before going to ice skating (and I checked the DVR back in Atlanta, I guess it was set to record there too, so I could've caught that recording had I missed it here. Plus, there would've been other ways). A fun ep, but kinda a big tease, don't you think? ( spoiler cut )

Nov. 22nd, 2013 09:28 amSo saw this thing on ONTD about random actors from Love, Actually who are getting current buzz. Obviously, I knew Rick Grimes was the guy pining over Keira Knightly, but like I guess its been a really long time since I saw it, so I did not realize the guy who was marrying her was The Operative from Serenity. Also, that Bilbo/Watson (who for the longest time I did not realize was British Jim since I've never watched the British Office) was the body double guy, or the kid was Jojen Reed from GoT. Which also reminds me, I was flicking through the channels and that Doctor Who ep with the fake Doctor guy was on, I totally didn't realize that was the Governor!
TV commentary:
Glee- Some people are freaking out about possible Samchel, but what's the big deal?! In terms of het ships for Rachel, Puck was by far my top choice, but Sam was prolly second. He's a nice, decent guy, and I wanna say until they turned him into more of a himbo, his character was a lot like what I think they intended Finn to be. So whatever, if they did put Rachel with him, it wouldn't be the most horrible thing for this show.
It also gives more of an excuse to bring him to NY and keep the amusing Blam friendship going on. I mean, obviously Blaine is going to be in NY next season, and it seems like they're having Sam pursue this male modeling thing to put him in NYC as well. So it seems like they already have his reason to be there. But look at it this way. Klaine is together, and you have Santana, Rachel, and Sam single. They're not going to hire three new people as LIs for them, it just makes sense to pair two of them off. So either Rachel gets with Santana, or she gets with Sam. I know people are all, "Why does she need anyone at all?" Realistically, she doesn't need anyone right now. She has a school, pursuing her dream career, but this is TV, they're not gonna have the female lead not be with someone.
And its not necessarily a bad thing. As long as they don't let her get defined by her relationship, that she won't forgo her dreams for some boy, I think its fine. ( spoiler cut )

Mar. 27th, 2012 09:33 pmSo they posted the the 1st annual tumblr TV award winners. The results: ( under the cut )
Heh, I'm amused Glee was voted best Teen show AND worst show. And hey, Faberry wins again for best couple! Seriously, with all the polls they've won recently, people are seriously fanatical about Quinn and Rachel. Quinn also won hottest TV female character, which given the competition in the final round included Amy Pond, is a little silly. Hey, I like Quinn and all, especially with the shorter hair (and even more especially when it was pink), but hotter than Amy Pond?
But ugh, Chuck Bass as best male character?! Though it looks like Sherlock was the big winner, what with the show getting the best drama and "best show ever" awards, as well as the best cast and fandom ones. Sherlock himself got the hottest male character award, Molly getting best female character, and Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freedom picking up the outstanding lead and supporting actors in a drama, respectively.
TV commentary:
New Girl- CeCe's Harold and Kumars are great. Also, Winston singing along to the Wicked soundtrack? Awesome! And could Haverchuck be any more douche-y looking in this ep?

Mar. 9th, 2012 09:06 amSo apparently the First Annual tumblr TV awards are going on right now. So in the best ship categories its down to 5 couples: Faberry and Britanna from Glee, Sherlock and Watson on Sherlock, Dean and Cas from Supernatural, and Dair from Gossip Girl. Like this year's E!-online poll, only one of the finalists is a straight couple, but the rest are same-sex. Which is an interesting trend. Is it that people who vote in such polls (or are vocal about "shipping") tend to favor same-sex couplings?
And is it a sign that the world is more accepting of homosexuality, or that those that are accepting have cornered modern media? Of course, another data point is of those 4 same sex couples, only 1 of those (Santana and Brittany) are an actual gay couple. The rest are non-canon. And among those three, only in the Sherlock/Watson case did the show have characters outright ask them, "Are you guys gay for each other?" The other two couplings are just supposed subtext and only in the minds of some viewers.
The finalists in the other categories that are still open: ( under a cut )
It looks like voting has either ended on the other categories (or hasn't entered final voting)

Jan. 10th, 2012 10:23 amSo, I actually finished the Subject 16 stuff last night on AC:B. I was kinda pissed trying to find the subject 16 glyph in the Castel Santa Angelo, because I scaled the whole damn thing only to find it was relatively close to the bottom. I figured since the Colosseum one was so high, it would be too. But I guess I have all the non-multi player trophies for the game proper. The only trophies I have left are from the Davinci disappearance, but that's completing that and getting 100% sync in that and the normal game. Well, that and "beating up the 5 thirsty harlequins" whatever those are.
Actually, there was "cool kill" trophy left I got this past weekend. It was steal 5 horses from their riders all the while staying on horseback. At first, I thought this meant there was some way to hijack horses whilst already on horseback, but I couldn't figure out how to do that. But, it just meant do 5 horse to horse assassinations in a row without ever getting off horseback, which is easy enough.
And they've named the 6 Spec Ops peeps in Operation: Raccoon City. Tweed, Dee-Ay, Harley, Willow, Shona, and Party Girl. I assume the first three are the dudes, and the last are the chyx? I mean, Party Girl is definitely a chick. But the latter two sound the most feminine after that. I guess Harley could be a girl, but I actually assume that's the tattoo-ed biker looking guy, hence the name Harley. I have no idea which name maps to who other than that though.
TV commentary:
Hey, I was two for two in terms of TV mysteries this past weekend.

Castle- Hey, its always nice to see Mindy O'Dell still guesting as random hot lady in stuff. ( spoiler cut )

Jan. 5th, 2012 12:07 pmFun fact of the day about myself- After learning of the existence of Arnold Palmers, I've discovered I have been drinking these a lot as of late.
TV commentary:
So, I don't watch Suburgatory, but I was at a point in DW and AC:B where I didn't think I could do another mission/level before it was time for Modern Family. So I quit about 10 minutes to 9, and left it on ABC, which apparently shows Suburgatory. Anyhoo, earlier that day, I saw this article on my RSS feed about the show. And after seeing only a few minutes of the show, they might be kinda right. I mean, its just the two of them, she calls him friggin George instead of dad, they sit and talk more like a couple than father and daughter. Its not like there was any sexual subtext or anything, just that not knowing their relationship, seeing the way they interact, I think one might assume they are a young married couple if they were flicking through the channels and stopped, especially since she refers to him by his first name and makes no reference to him being her dad! Show some respect young lady, and call your parents Mom and Dad! Also acceptable: Mother, Father, Mommy, Daddy, Faja, Mum, Mumsy, Pops, Poppa, Mama.
Sherlock- So, the second season started up this past weekend. It of course immediately starts of where the last one left off. ( spoiler cut )

Sherlock- So after hearing both
clevemire and
isabel79 separately mention this show and liking it, I figured I would check it out. It took a few months, but I finally did, since there was nothing on tonight. I've only checked out the first ep so far, but its pretty good. Though I hear from the aforementioned folks that the next two eps weren't as great. In any case, when I heard them talk about this show, I had no idea this show took place in the modern day. Of course, since Sherlock was the iconic detective character, the one who started the trend of modern forensics, if he exists "now", he didn't exist back then. But then who inspired the whole using deductive reasoning and forensics and all that jazz to solve crimes? Its like Hawaii Five-0. Since they exist in the now, that means, 5-0 isn't a commonly used slang word to refer to cops in that world, which is just weird.
Video game stuff:
Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City- So learned more about this game from G4's daily E3 roundup. So, the first trailer and various magazine articles highlighted 4 members- the team leader Vector, who has a personal cloaking device, the big guy with explosives, Beltway, the sniper with the weird goggles, Spectre, and Bertha the medic with the big knife. But then the new trailer at E3 had two new characters, Lupo, who's even higher up than Vector since she's ordering him around, and an Asian chick who seems to be another medic/science type, Four-Eyes.
At first, I thought maybe Lupo and Four-Eyes were scrubs and get killed off in the story, but from the person they interviewed on the show, no, there are 6 playable characters, each their own unique class. But its a four-man team, so you'll have to choose which classes you bring, which obviously depends on your situation.
Its been compared to Left 4 Dead and the other "zombie modes" various shooters have been coming out with recently. But it does seem to have some unique elements. Well, I assume they're unique, its possible the other games have some similar aspects. For one, the creators refer to the game being three-sided. You're controlling the Umbrella Security folks, who are trying to cover up what's happening in Raccoon City. But since this takes place during RE2, you have Claire and Leon wandering around, plus a US spec ops team investigating the outbreak. So not only are you having to fight off zombies, you have to contend with them.
But also, they handle the whole getting infected in an interesting way- getting infected with the T-virus, your health bar turns blue and it starts running down. During this time, you still have control, but obviously you're stronger, and more resilient, ignoring all damage except for headshots. But once the bar is depleted, you become a full on zombie and relinquish control to the computer. However, as mentioned before, you have the various character classes, including a medic. Now, some people are inclined to leave the medic behind, being all, "the best defense is a good offense" and relying on just skill and bad-assery to avoid getting hurt by killing the enemy first, forgoing the need for a medic.
But, the medic can cure you of the T-virus infection before it fully sets in. So, that brings in another aspect of gameplay- intentionally getting infecting so you're bad-ass temporarily, relying on the medic to revert you back to a human before its too late. Which I think is a cool concept.
