Fun fact of the day about myself- After learning of the existence of Arnold Palmers, I've discovered I have been drinking these a lot as of late.

TV commentary:

So, I don't watch Suburgatory, but I was at a point in DW and AC:B where I didn't think I could do another mission/level before it was time for Modern Family. So I quit about 10 minutes to 9, and left it on ABC, which apparently shows Suburgatory. Anyhoo, earlier that day, I saw this article on my RSS feed about the show. And after seeing only a few minutes of the show, they might be kinda right. I mean, its just the two of them, she calls him friggin George instead of dad, they sit and talk more like a couple than father and daughter. Its not like there was any sexual subtext or anything, just that not knowing their relationship, seeing the way they interact, I think one might assume they are a young married couple if they were flicking through the channels and stopped, especially since she refers to him by his first name and makes no reference to him being her dad! Show some respect young lady, and call your parents Mom and Dad! Also acceptable: Mother, Father, Mommy, Daddy, Faja, Mum, Mumsy, Pops, Poppa, Mama.

Sherlock- So, the second season started up this past weekend. It of course immediately starts of where the last one left off. So how do the boys get out of their predicament? You know, with snipers trained on them, and Sherlock about to shoot the bomb vest to take Moriarty with them? They go the Deus Ex Machina route, and have Moriarty get a phone call that pisses him off and apparently is more important to deal with than his nemesis, so he spares them. That's kinda lame, but not sure there were many ways out that didn't involve the death of some or all of them.

But this ep introduces the other of Sherlock's nemeses, Irene Adler. Here, she's a dominatrix for the rich and powerful who uses her position to learn their secrets to trade for favors and protection. So, in this, it seems like she plays the Holmes brothers, managing to trick Sherlock into decoding some e-mail on her phone, one that ends up screwing up Mycroft's coventry-ish plan to blow up a airliner (full of corpses, not actually civvies, so not a bad plan!) in order to trick some terrorists into thinking the CIA/MI-6 hasn't broken one of their secret codes.

It seems like they're all screwed, with Irene blackmailing Mycroft so she won't reveal that it was Sherlock who totally screwed the pooch. But Sherlock in the end comes with the last minute save, realizing that despite Irene's claims to the contrary, that she is indeed fond of him. And its that sentiment that makes him realize she couldn't resist making the phone code about him. So he figures out that her pin is SHER, (so the lock screen would say I am sher-locked) allowing them to access the contents and letting her lose all her leverage.

In the end, they make it sound like one of the people she pissed off, some terrorists, went after her now that she doesn't have the protection of her information, and caught her and beheaded her. Mycroft tells Watson, who gives him the choice of telling Sherlock of either revealing the truth, or saying she's in the witness protection program in America, and Sherlock will never be able to see her again.

Watson opts for the latter, but Sherlock acts like he doesn't care anyways. Watson thinks its due to Holmes being rjv('cold blooded!') But it turns out its because he knows the real truth- yeah, the terrorists caught up with her, but Sherlock somehow infiltrated their cell and rescued her. Heh, we see in a flashback when she sent her final text to Holmes, but given the way they set up that scene, you knew what was coming, that as soon as she sent it, you'd hear her personal ringtone she put in Sherlock's phone.

I know Sherlock is smart and all, but really, able to single handedly infiltrate a terrorist cell and rescue her? Although I guess we don't know it was single handedly, just without the help of his best friend, or the most logical person able to help with infiltrating a terrorist cell, his brother Mycroft and British intelligence. In any case, they manage to fool his brother thoroughly, with Mycroft previously foreshadowing the whole thing by telling Watson they're sure she's dead, as it would take Sherlock to fool him.

Although speaking of, how the hell did she fake her death the first time? She managed to find a really good body double that would fool someone with a photographic memory like Sherlock who took in every inch of her nekkid body?!

And getting back to her making the code about him, he determined that she really did like him through the racing of her pulse and the dilation of her eyes when they were together, but didn't she encode the phone before they really knew each other? I mean, I guess she was following his exploits and was kinda infatuated with him, so it seems like it would be amusing for her to make the code about him at that point, for fun, regardless of whether she is shown to kinda like him later.

Owel, once again Sherlock is a huge dick to poor Molly. She comes to his Christmas party all spiffied up and he deduces from her appearance and the fancy gift she has in her gift bag, that she's leaving later to hook up with some new boyfriend. Otherwise, why would she go through all this trouble. He of course does this in front of everybody, and as the audience quickly figures out before Sherlock does, she did it for him, he's the guy she got all dressed up for and got the fancy present for.

Other interesting things, it is amusing to have it turn out that a lot of people in that world do wonder if Sherlock and Watson are a gay couple. I mean, people joke about it with House and Wilson and a plethora of other shows with similar relationships, but here, they've had people outright ask them, HA! And I guess given I saw the movie recently, I couldn't remember if Watson had a steady gf currently. But I guess not, given he mixed up his gf at the Christmas party with a previous one with a dog.
