Ah, so I didn't realize the chick in that new CW series "The Tomorrow People" was Peyton List (The Lucy Lane one, not the Disney one). Nice to see her in something new. I guess CW is going full on teen drama next season. With this, and Reign, and in the winter, the 100 and Star-Crossed- which stars Aimee Teegarden and Malese Jow, also nice to see them in something new.

Still, despite having actresses I like, the concepts don't seem too interesting to me. I think the only new show that's piqued my interest is the Agents of Shield show or whatever its called. I realize now they prolly do have to refer to it as "Marvel's Agents of Shield", because if it was just Shield, it would prolly get confused with "The Shield". Actually, Intelligence with Sawyer and Ruby looks interesting enough, even if its kinda Chuck-ish.

So, just finished "Remember Sunday". One non-spoiler comment first- Alexis Bledel is totes wicked mad cute looking in this. spoiler cut )

So, saw Haywire this past Saturday with the usual suspects. It was okay. Not great, but not bad either. The movie would have gone by much quicker if Gina Carano actually shot her opponents instead of deciding to fight hand to hand. Yeah, I understand she's a MMA fighter and that's her schtick, but so many parts of the movie would have gone way easier if she just kneecapped a guy, or popped them with her gun instead of sneaking up to them and taking them on hand to hand.

Because at least in normal martial arts movies, or movies like Bourne, enemies go down quick. But the movie was going for a bit more realism, and her fights are brutal, knock down, drag-out affairs. No easy neck snaps or choke outs here. She fights some almost equally skilled opponents, so even when she gets her arms or legs around some guy's neck, its not like they all of a sudden are out. They're fighting for their life, so obviously they're gonna slam her into every thing they friggin can to get her off. Being the protagonist, obviously she eventually prevails, but despite her skill, these fights are far from easy.

TV commentary:

Fringe- One thing about a show with multiple universes, it does ramp up the anxiety level. I mean, honestly, other action-dramas, you at least know the protagonists are safe, because they're the stars, they're not just going to kill them off. But here, when you have doubles, the show could decide to just kill one or the other in a scene. It definitely would be a surprise and shock the viewers. In any case, I did like Peter's confrontation scene. spoiler cut )

Chuck- Did they really get Farscape guy for such a small role (partnered with Ted Moesby's sister/Pink Time Force Ranger)? spoiler cut )

TV Commentary:

Chuck- The whole Shaw being the one who broke out of the prison would've been a surprise, if they didn't reveal in last week's preview. Actually, they even revealed it in the preview for the episode before this one too. But they did keep one reveal a secret. spoiler cut )

House- I'm surprised that wasn't the season finale, it felt a little season finale-ish. spoiler cut )

Gossip Girl- Dammit, with last week's ep seeming like they've dropped the whole Dair thing and they'd both moved on, the season ends with more than a few Dair tidbits to keep suckers like me still watching. spoiler cut )

HIMYM- spoiler cut )

Chuck- Interesting, that could've served as a series finale, I wonder if they added the last few minutes once they were sure they were returning. Though I suppose they could've end the series with that also. spoiler cut )

90210- spoiler cut )

Game of Thrones- Pretty violent episode. And disturbing at parts. Also, is this show trying to say everyone in power is a crazy whack job?!

So this ep introduces Loras Tyrell, "The Knight of Flowers". He seems pretty cool. I mean, the Hound and the Mountain are cool in their brutish bad-assedness, but I've also admired those warriors who are skilled but manage to be stylish as well. Such folk bring an elegance to the battlefield that is often lacking!

TV commentary:

HIMYM- Since we don't actually know Justin and Alex (the Nikita one, not the WoWP one) names, I wonder if they actually might be named Luke and Leia. Though you think SagetTed would have made a comment about their mother allowing it. spoiler cut )

Gossip Girl- I should've known better to have faith that this show wouldn't just toss Dair by the wayside. spoiler cut )

Chuck- Crazy cliffhanger, but c'mon, its not like its a real cliffhanger. spoiler cut )

90210- Okay, ha, I will give the show props for having Dixon being nice to Harper only for it to blow up in his face, and not in the "she becomes a crazy stalker obsessed with him" or the "he learns more about her and kinda falls for her way". Instead, she just pulls an Elaine Benes-ish dance and he's a laughing stock. Hey, its different.

Oh, and the Raj/Ivy storyline, isn't that kinda like "A Walk to Remember", but its the guy who's dying of cancer. And hey, I don't blame him for trying to get a threesome. I mean, they played it off as him trying to drive her away. But hey, he's dying, like that's not on plenty of guy's bucket lists? spoiler cut )

Got MK9 from Amazon today. So I've been alternating between playing it and DW7 this afternoon. I'm starting to get a hang of the new system. Interestingly enough, if you actually remember how to play the characters from the original trilogy, you'll find the button sequences for their special moves are more or less the same. Though there's a lot more to learn! I mean, you could prolly just stick with the tried and true uppercut after Scorpion's spear or Sub Zero's ice, but the new combos are way more satisfying and have a higher damage yield.

I'll have to study their move lists, but at least it seems there are certain patterns to the combos- 3 heavy attacks (i.e. hard punchx3, or hard punchx2 followed by hard kick), alternating heavy-light-heavy, light-light-heavy attacks, or light-heavy-heavy attacks. Of course, that's further complicated by directional motions in some of those combos. But I think you can get away with just knowing one or two combos.

The new super bar is a welcome addition, though I haven't been using it to enhance my special moves or utilizing the new combo breaker (I'm guessing on the harder levels the computer will be a bitch with this). I usually just hoard it until I can pull off one of those devastating x-ray attacks. But since I think it works best to use to get an enemy down to zero, I could prolly stand to enhance a move or two. Or get in the habit of trying to combo break out of things when I can.

But yeah, the tag mechanics are going to be even more work to learn, particularly trying to work in tag assists and quick tag attacks.

TV commentary:

Secret Life- This show has finally done it, its managed to have gotten so retahded that I've finally managed to quit it.

HIMYM- Interesting, so I guess Anders is about to become Robin's new love interest? And hmm, Barney more or less thinks Robin is the only one he'll be able to settle down with? Does that make her the one "he's already met"? Although I guess some are theorizing it might be Nora. It also seems the prevailing theory about that one wedding in the future is either Robin about to marry Anders or Barney marrying Nora, and the other trying to stop it in a season finale cliffhanger?

The Event- Heh, is it lame that the only thing keeping me interested in the Event is the possibility of Sean and Vicky hooking up? And really what the hell was the whole point of that old guy if he was gonna just off himself? Like I can understand the whole sentinel thing, but then what was the whole thing with the turning those girls old earlier in the season?

Chuck- I thought this was a sweet little episode with Sarah and her father. But wait, did they just take off after taking down the bad guys? What about the havoc that will ensue when that Bat Mitzvah shows up during the wedding? Though I guess the styrofoam cake already ruined the wedding. And interesting, so Casey's wife knows he's alive and a government agent. But that whole line where she's all "So you finally have everything you want?" Except her of course. So I'm guessing he's gonna try and get her back?

Make It Or Break It- Is Lauren ever going to get her comeuppance? I mean, I can understand Lauren snowing her father, but even Summer caves to her! It was slightly deliciously evil the way she easily drove a wedge between Payson and photographer guy. Though what the hell was that guy thinking? He should have been expecting trouble when he came over to Lauren's house to take headshots and she was in that slutty school girl outfit. And then when she stripped down to her undies?! That's when if he was serious about having no interest in her that he should've gotten the hell out of there.

But heh, should Emily be worried about Kaylee and Damon? Prolly not, though I'm sure Lauren will try to sow the seeds of discord in that situation. In any case, I'm sure Kaylee's mom will be all excited when she finds out her daughter is getting into singing and song-writing.

Let's get the DW7 stuff out of the way first. I can't believe I forgot to mention one of the other significant additions in my previous posts, guardian animals. Basically, you always have a horse- even if you don't start on a horse, L2 will call one. Now, Red Hare (who looks sufficiently supernatural this time around), Hex Mark, and Shadow Runner are guardian animals, as are all the other mounts, including the elephant. But, "guardian animals" is not just this game's version of "saddle", as you can also get pets that attack along side you, like a wolf, tiger, falcon or eagle. Now, I believe since you can only get one guardian animal at a time, if you have red hare equipped, you can't have an attack creature. But if you have an attack creature, as I said earlier, you can still have a horse, its just the stock horse. But I don't think a fast horse is as vital in this game as it was in previous games. Particularly if you equip "walking speed up". (Heck, if you're really cheesy, you can just put walking speed up on both you weapons when piddling around since they stack, and then just pause and switch to more combat effective seals when you have to face an opponent)

Oh, but yeah, in addition to being able to have the aforementioned animal, there's also a bear mount. I haven't tried it out too much. One thing I know that differentiates it from the other mounts is the attack will attack enemies in front- on horses, you attack to the sides. But I don't think its any slower than the stock horse, so its not too detrimental to have that as your mount. (speaking of mounts, cavalry enemies are the most friggin annoying enemies ever) And I hear the Panda version does an area heal if you use the strong attack button, which can be useful.

Also, this is only in conquest mode, you can't choose guardian animals in story mode. Of course, I've been having a wolf accompany me, and I'll occasionally see it running around and attacking things, but I'm not sure if its actually adding anything other than "looking cool".

In addition to guardian animals, you can also have sworn allies in conquest mode. But I'll babble about that under the cut )

TV Commentary:

Chuck- You know, I'm still lost as to how much Ellie knows about Chuck's situation. I mean, it seemed she learned about the spy stuff last season, but did she learn everything? It was off-screen, but during one of those season finales, it seemed like she told Morgan and Awesome to tell her everything. But the wording of some of the conversation in tonight's ep make me wonder if she just thinks he was doing spy stuff (at the very least, I know she thinks he's retired), or if she knows about the intersect. spoiler cut )

HIMYM- While this ep did have a significant development, it was kinda a clunky ep to come back from the break to. spoiler cut )

HIMYM- Aww, poor Barney. spoiler cut )

Chuck- An amusing ep, but some interesting developments here. spoiler cut )

The World's Greatest Extra, apparently:

Heh, does it mean I watch a lot of TV that as soon as I saw the first shot of the guy I didn't need further evidence to prove to me he was in everything? Like I was all, "Oh yeah, that guy who I've noticed has been in a lot of stuff because he has a distinct look". When I heard about this vid, I was worried my mind would be blown all, "how have I not noticed this guy in all these things?!" But I have! I was hoping his imdb page would say why he's been in so many things, like he was some guy's nephew or son or something, but apparently not, he's just in a bunch of stuff as a fat nerdy guy.

So yesterday I mentioned those leaked pics from that one SLotAT chick, but apparently it was a banner day for such things, with some more V-Hudge nudie pics coming out, as well as one where she makes out with Alexa Davalos. (who?! That one chick who left Zoey 101 because she was constantly at odds with Jamie Lynn Spears on set. Ooh, maybe they were fighting over the same producer guy? You know, the one who secretly knocked up Jamie Lynn Spears but since he didn't want to go to jail, they said it was some other age-appropriate guy? Plus he was prolly the one who secretly knocked up Amanda Bynes and she had to have one of those A-words)

Oh, [livejournal.com profile] clevemire expresses outrage and disbelief that me and JJ at work did not realize Gilbert Gottfried was the AFLAC duck. I mean, when the duck would talk, I suppose he had a Gottfried-esque quality, but since the duck would just say "AFLAC", my mind didn't immediately jump to him. Like if he said more, I'd prolly pick up on it. But sure, now that I know its Gilbert Gottfried, it seems obvious.

TV commentary:

House- Heh, this ep kept freaking me out. And not because of the tests they were doing on 4400 guy. spoiler cut )

Chuck- Nice to finally learn what the Gretas were all about! spoiler cut )

Pretty Little Liars- Interesting turn of events all around. spoiler cut )

Some people expressed surprised I didn't have Shazam on my phone, even though it seems like an app I would have. I mean, surely that is easier than struggling to listen to lyrics of some song in a TV or movie in order to google them to determine the song. I did give Shazam a try, but the whole thing where the free version is limited to tagging 5 songs a month is ridiculous! But I did recently install Soundhound. From the comparisons I've seen online it performs equal to or better than shazam, and it provides unlimited tagging for free.

TV Commentary:

Glee- No new Glee ep, but the tracks from the Glee: The Music, Vol. 5 that have not yet been released are available to hear. I've already commented on Gwyneth Paltrow's cover of the Dixie Chicks cover of Stevie Nicks' Landslide, as well as the original songs "Get It Right" and "Loser Like Me". But there are two more songs- Prince's "Kiss", and the Joan Jett version of "Do You Wanna Touch Me". Both are done by Gwyneth, and now I'm wondering if she's the guest star who's had the most songs now (I wanna say she's done more songs than Kristen Chenoweth now, though they could be just tied)

Anyways, I think both renditions sound pretty good, though it is kinda weird hearing Gwyneth trying to sing all high like Prince in "Kiss".

Looks like there are two more songs besides the aforementioned Gwyneth one's in next week's ep. Apparently Stamos does a rendition of "Afternoon Delight" with the Glee kids (That better be released, I'm hoping its still dropping as a single next week even though its not on G:tM Vol. 5) and the Neon Trees' "Animal". Which I thought I didn't know, but then I realized its been in a bunch of commercials and trailers.

Chuck- spoiler cut )

HIMYM- spoiler cut )

90210- Its nice to see dorky Max isn't totally insane. Like it was ridiculous he was unfazed by Naomi in the schoolgirl outfit and glasses, or her in just her bra and panties under that overcoat. It took her dressing up as a Navi to finally land him. Though it was still ridiculous that his friends were making fun of her for showing up at the movie theater in costume. Sure, she's the only weirdo who was dressed up, and yeah, those girls would've made fun of her (because, chyx, man! Ha!), but no way would they overlook her scantily clad full body paint hot bodied-ness and instead be all, "What an idiot, she's the only one cosplaying!"

TV commentary:

Chuck- So Sarah used to be part of Charlie's Angel-esque team of hottie spies called the CAT squad? spcv('nice!')

HIMYM- Interesting, so will this Nora chick gonna be a recurring character? She does seem somewhat similar to Robin, except English/Middle Eastern. spoiler cut )

Gossip Girl- Ah, great episode full of some nice Dair scenes. Part of me is hopeful this is like the second half of DC season 3, and Dan and Blair will end up being GG's version of Joey and Pacey. But then another part of me thinks the writers will have their fun with this coupling, then ruin it to get Chuck and Blair back together. cut for ghey-ass complaining )

90210- While I'm still sad that the show has turned Adrianna into this truly awful person, she still does look hot, particularly in that red dress. And I'm definitely like the turn of events with Naomi and this new nerdy Max guy.

Pretty Little Liars- Hmm, Aria looked prettier this ep. No offense to her, but she does kinda have a large forehead, so they finally put her in a hairstyle that doesn't accentuate this. spoiler cut )
geebs: (Default)
TV commentary:

Chuck- Hmm, well, that was interesting. spoiler cut )

90210- Wow, Emily really does look like a young, brunette Jennie Garth. (Well, except when she smiles, because her smile is a little gummy) But yeah, several of those scenes in last night's ep, she's like the spitting image of Kelly Taylor. spoiler cut )

Pretty Little Liars- Why do they keep on introducing new characters? There's enough bland guys on this show as it is, its hard enough trying to keep up. spoiler cut )

Gossip Girl- Saving the best for last. The ep was full of Dair goodness. You know, I could care less about the other story lines on this show, I prolly would've given up on it a while ago if they didn't keep this potential coupling as a possibility. I think there's a lot of potential here, I mean, a long arc involving them getting together and all the stuff they have to deal with once they do would be way more interesting than rehashing the same damn story lines they've been having for Chuck/Blair and Dan/Serena. But of course, they're prolly worried about pissing off the Chair shippers.

Hmm, so they're remaking the Thundercats cartoon? Eh, they've just about remade everything else, so why not?

Random stuff from the web:

Is it me, or does the background pic in original Egg's twitter look kinda jailbait-y?

The kinda cute meekakitty's music video for Star Trek Girl:

Hey, new posters and banners for Sucker Punch. You know, I don't even care about the plot of the movie. It could just be two hours of hot girls in sexy outfits taking on orcs and dragons and nazis in zeppelins and giant robot samurai or whatever and the plot make no sense whatsoever, but I'd still prolly enjoy it, because I'm easy like that. Though I'm still confused why Vanessa Hudgen's character, a brunette, is nicknamed Blondie. I mean its not like her hair is so dark that it's an ironic nickname.

Also, I did not know Super Mario Brothers Crossover had been updated a while ago to include Blaster Master. But more importantly, that my save file for the old version wouldn't work in the new version. Luckily, I figured out how the new save file worked so I could hack things if I had to. But I still played and beat the game normally. Its just reassuring that I could cheat if I need to. I mean, when playing games, obviously, I like a challenge, but I also like to be able to go "frak it!" and just stack the deck in my favor if need be. There's less pressure, so I feel more confident and thus do better.

Also, I don't consider playing an early level over and over again for hours on end to power my character up to uber levels (like I do in RPGS and the DW/SW series and the like) before I take on the rest of the game to be cheating. As they say, bleed during training so you don't end up bleeding during the real thing. Plus, I want to get access to everything my characters can do as soon as possible, so I can have more variety in how I dispatch my enemies for longer, not just in the late levels.

TV commentary:

Chuck- Eh, Sarah is way better as a blond. Though one of her outfits, with the black hair like that, was that an intentional Mass Effect 2 reference? Because it was the spitting image of how she looks in the game. Oh, and I was skeptical about the whole thing with Casey's daughter in the autographed Back to the Future T-Shirt thing. If it was really such an important collector's item, what was it doing around for Alex just to throw on? Wouldn't it be framed or something?

Although [livejournal.com profile] clevemire and I were just discussing her possible slobbery. He's thinking wouldn't they be all "WTF?! What kinda girl just nonchalantly drops pizza sauce and orange juice all over the place (one that is not hers) and not care?" But I say, the show was kinda focusing on the pizza sauce and juice spilling because Morgan and Chuck were all freaked out about her possible messing up the shirt, and otherwise, its a hot chick wearing only a T-shirt, they'd be distracted. I think I would be, and I'm anal about that sort of thing, because I'd worry that that sort of thing attracts bugs. So between being mesmerized by a scantily clad hottie and also worrying she might accidentally ruin a collector's item, I think I would not actually notice the spills at the time. I mean, I would notice it later and be all, "What the hell is this?" and then quickly clean it up and then start freaking out about a bug invasion.

So Buddy TV came out with a TV's 100 Sexiest Women of 2010. While I approve of many of the chyx on this list, I disagree with the rankings of many of them, particularly compared with the placements of others. Also, the absence of certain chyx. Anyways, here's the top 10:

10) Heather Morris, Glee: Actually Brit's not the only Glee girl on this list. Lea Michele (Rachel) was at 98, Dianna Agron (Quinn) at 50, and Naya Rivera (Santana) at 23.

9) Evangeline Lilly, Lost: Well, obviously. But did Lost only end this year?

8) Katie Cassidy, Gossip Girl and Melrose Place: Didn't watch Melrose, but she was definitely a nice looking edition to GG.

7) Tamara Taylor, Bones- No offense to Dr. Saroyan, she's attractive, but top 10 attractive?

6) Eva Longoria Parker, Desperate Housewives- Wait, when did she start going by Longoria-Parker? Amusing that I only hear about it when she's prolly not going to be going by that any more!

5) Kaley Cuoco, Big Bang Theory

4) Padme Lakshimi, Top Chef

3) Christina Hendricks, Mad Men

2) Sofia Vergara, Modern Family- Heh, two huge racked chyx in a row?

1) Yvonne Strahovski, Chuck- She's hot and all, but is she really #1 hot? (Particularly with the pic they chose! You'd think they'd try to get something more flattering if they're gonna proclaim her #1)
geebs: (Default)
TV Commentary:

Chuck- Hmm, was that the last new ep this year? That was an interesting way to go into the break then. spoiler cut )

Gossip Girl- Ah, that ending! spoiler cut )

90210- I know Laura is supposed to be an annoying weirdo, but I find the character strangely attractive. I guess I really do have a penchant for neurotic brunettes (Blair Waldorf, Annie Edison, Rachel Berry, Taylor Townsend, Casey MacDonald, etc). I'm prolly in the extreme minority, but I actually think I like the development between her and Liam. Even if the storyline feels so disconnected from everything else.

Oh, and poor Silver! spoiler cut )
