TV commentary:
Smallville- Its finally over for good! Heh, they actually do bring the planet Apokalips as the big threat in the finale. I mean, Darkseid and his minions (Granny Goodness, Desaad, and that other guy whose name I've forgotten) are the big bads, but I was kinda surprised they actually had Apokalips show up! Anyways, its over, but there are still a couple of burning questions on my mind.
( spoiler cut )DW7 stuff: Almost finished getting all the trophies. All I have left is the "get all trophies" trophy, and the item collector trophy, which one gets for unlocking everything in the gallery. Which in turn I will get once I finish buying up all the skills on Bao Sanniang, Liu Shan, Zhang Jiao, Yuan Shao, Meng Huo, and Dong Zhou.
You know, I don't like Bao's personality, but wow, she is friggin' monstrous! Her ex-attack is even more deadly than Zhong Hui's c5! I mean, while I like all my Wei bad-asses, and Ma Chao, and Zhou Tai, in truth, in terms of actually killing an officer as quickly as possible, Ma Chao is the fastest killer of all the aforementioned with his ex-attack, but that's not as good as spamming Zhong Hui's C5. And the spammed flying sword c5 still pales in comparison to zhu rong/yuanji's c3 followed by c6 throwing knives with death element "What in the world, they're dead already?!" insta-kill combo. And somehow, Bao's ex attack is even more ridiculous than that!
I mean, the knife trick with Zhu Rong and Yuanji (which can technically be done with anyone, since its an aspect of the throwing knife itself, rather than any ex-attack the girls have) I still have to stun them with the c3 in order to auto kill them with the close range c6. And Zhong Hui's flying torpedo c5 attack (again, actually usable by anyone equipped with the flying swords) its possible to mis-aim it and end up grazing them and not hitting them with all the hits, hence needing to spam it to guarantee you kill them. But Bao's ex-attack? If all the elemental hits actually go off (and you have double element lightning/death) if it doesn't outright kill them, it will take them to below a third health. Even if the elemental hits don't go off, its still more than halves their life bar. And that ex-attack of hers is an automatic 30 hit combo! Usually, people who have a c5 ex-attack, the last hit of the normal c5 knocks them away too far for the extra ex-attack hit to do significant damage, often times its more a crowd attack move anyways. But her c5, she follows the juggle up with several cat scratches, so its like an auto-canned combo after a juggle, and since technically all those extra hits are a result of one attack, rather than several, the enemy can't recover out of it to escape, guaranteeing the ridiculously high combo counts.
Her c6 is also an automatic 20+ hits, which is incredibly useful, since in conquest mode, if its a board where the enemy could possibly drop +4s (alas, you can only get +8s in story mode) you need to kill the officer with a 16+ hit combo. So with her, its easy peasy to get the best stat drops!
And yeah, while she does have a deliciously skimpy outfit, its kind meh in green, but wow, she looks infinitely better in her alternate colors outfit, which is pink and black. It makes her kinda look like kuniochi from SW, all nubile ninja cat girl, crawling on her hands and knees when she starts up her musou. (heh.) Yeah, I'm not a fan of the Shu's green color scheme in general. I mean, its fine on Liu Bei and the five Tiger Generals, and Guan Ping, but the green looks so plain on everyone else. So Bao's alt colors are a definite improvement. I also prefer Ma Dai's alternate colors as well, the black/purple pops out more than the boring looking green and white of his normal outfit.
Other comments. Heh, apparently when you make Xiao Qiao's guardian animal the panda (hey, she does have a panda head on her ass) she has special dialogue when she starts a battle. I wanna say either Lu Bu or Guan Yu or both also say something different than they usually say if they have red hare equipped. I'm kinda curious how many other characters have special guardian animal dialogue.
And finally, even though I loathed Dong Zhou's slow ass in the previous DW games, he's actually usable in this game. He's still pretty slow (noticeably slower than Xu Zhu) but since he has the flail as his weapon, it doesn't handicap him as much as when he had a sword since its longer ranged. Particularly since the flail can be a cheesy weapon once you have all the attacks learned. I mean, often times, when you use a weapon's c5 attack to start a juggle, the officer will often recover and jump out of the last few hits of any combo you follow it up with. But, since the last hit of the c6 is an auto-grab, you can just spam c5 followed by c6. And its especially useful against multiple officers- the c5 will usually just grab one officer and bounce him into the air to start the juggle, but the c6 grabs GROUPS of officers and spins them around before tossing them. So that'll clear a crowd out real quick.
But yeah, Dong Zhou gets bonus points for his cool looking ex-attack, which involves a kick in the nuts, and then him sitting his corpulent ass on the back of their prone form, grabbing them by the neck and twisting it like a bottle cap to snap it. Its appropriately brutal- obviously, he's too much of a lard-ass to face the more bad-ass warriors in a fair fight, so he's using his strengths! Sucker punching (or kicking, rather) them with the nut shot, and using his weight to his advantage by sitting on them and using the leverage to easily break their neck. Plus the neck break very much seems like a vicious tyrant thing to do.
