So, voting has begun for this year's Tubeys on TWoP. So, here's some commentary on some of the nominees:

5) Most Painful Series Cancellation- I actually went with "10 Things I Hate About You". I thought it was a decent show that deserved to be picked up. And its ridiculous that its gone, and "Melissa and Joey" is in its place.

7) Most Anticipated New Show of the 2011-2012 Season- You know, while there are definitely new shows I'm going to check out next season, nothing really stood out as, "I really can't wait for that!"

16) Best HoYay! Couple- Didn't this site invent the term HoYay? But they seem to not know what it means. I mean, I don't think the term should encompass actual gay couples like Kurt and Blaine on Glee. Brittany and Santana is kinda iffy- back when you weren't sure they were bi/lesbian respectively and they jokingly hinted at it, yes. But once they actually turned them into a romantic coupling, they shouldn't be on the list.

Also not really HoYay? Annie/Britta on Community. That's fan-service, not HoYay. Also, just because two cop partners are of the same sex does not mean its automatically HoYay either. To me, HoYay is a same sex pair who are close and someone might suspect they're gay for each other, but they really can't be sure. Or if the show is playing the characters straight, but you can re-interpret their conversations as having gay undertones. Like Clark/Lex on the earlier seasons of Smallville. (In fact, aren't they the pairing that started the whole HoYay thing on TWoP?)

So yeah, Jack Black imagining Annie and Britta making out or wrestling in a sudsy kiddie pool or the two of them trying to show each other up on how cool and non threatened they are about lesbians does not qualify. And I never got a kinda gay vibe from Dano and McGarret on Hawaii Five-0 or the Good Guys (I can't seem to remember Colin Hanks or Bradley Whitford's character names). But yeah, Alaric and Damon on Vampire Diaries, Jon Snow and Samwell Tarly on Game of Thrones, House and Wilson, Bobby and Andy on Cougar Town, those are definitely HoYay.

17) Best Romantic Relationship- I'm normally not a big fan of the iconic pairing on shows (Ross/Rachel, Jim/Pam, and Seth/Summer being exceptions) Pacey getting the girl on DC was like one of my favorite things to happen on a show, because finally its the friend of the main character getting his due. A lot of the choices were kinda bland at best and toxic at worst. (I find it kinda hilarious that the Lannister twin-cesters are on there!). I actually ended up going with Dany and Khal Drogo from GoT. I thought they were a nice couple.

19) Best Almost-Romantic But Not Quite Relationship- Ooh, this was a real hard one for me, because 4 out of my 5 favorite not-canon couples were in there- Jeff/Annie from Community, Dan/Blair from Gossip Girl, Damon/Elena from Vampire Diaries, and Puckelberry from Glee. They had Barney on HIMYM on there with that Nora chick. Wasn't she just there for like one episode?! I guess maybe Barney and Robin don't qualify because they're exes? I actually went with Dair, because they've teased it too much this past season, I must see the show explore this, even if they'll prolly just end up ruining them.

24) Most Likable Geek: I'll actually list the nominees this time: under a cut )

25) Best Musical Moment on a Scripted or Reality show- Obviously, there were several nominees from Glee on this. Also, various numbers from the Grey's Anatomy Musical episode. And they count the ending montage of the Friday Night Lights finale as a "musical moment"? But here's my comment on the Glee songs:
again, cut for brevity )

26) Best Pop Culture Reference- I had to go with the Community/Cougar Town lovefest. The references to each other were just too good. It was like a crossover that wasn't really a crossover, which made it even better because it wasn't official.

TV Commentary:

10 Things- Even though they showed the last two eps back to back last week, the finale only came up on hulu today. I still can't believe they canceled this show. I mean, how can they tout this as their third most popular show and drop it! They cancel this but keep Secret Life?! And like Kyle XY, this show ends totally unresolved. Oh, and I just saw that the chick who plays Dawn played that androgynous doctor in that one ep of Bones were they were trying to figure out if it was a dude or a chick. Weird! This last ep though, in the locker room with the mid-riff baring baby T-shirt and tight short shorts, there's no doubt she's a chick. spcv('Nice!')

Anyways, onto the actual ep. spoiler cut )

Burn Notice- Heh, when Michael Ironside shows up, at first I was thinking, "That actor looks like a fat Michael Ironside!" Then I realized, oh wait, that actually is Michael Ironside. Now there's an even bigger disconnect between him and Sam Fisher in Splinter Cell. I mean, I already found the Splinter Cell voice work slightly jarring because Sam Fisher isn't nearly as old looking as Michael Ironside. But now I won't be able to stop picturing that this spec-ops bad-ass is being voiced by some old out of shape dude. Anyways, onto the actual ep. spoiler cut )

TV commentary:

Degrassi- Wait, maybe its because I didn't pay attention to that stuff back in high school, but are school plays one night only? I figured they have a couple of showings so everyone has a chance to see it? spoiler cut )

10 Things- Okay, the whole Cameron being too ginormous for Dawn is kinda cute, particularly the way they play it on the show. I mean, the scene where she has to stand on the stairs and kiss over the railing to be able to reach his face to kiss him is kinda amusing. spoiler cut )

So I've been checking out snippets from the Glee tour shows on youtube, and I didn't realize they were doing so many songs, pretty impressive. set list under the cut )

I like how they start with "Don't Stop Believin'" and end with "Somebody To Love", as I think those were there two most compelling performances to date. But cool, they also have "Defying Gravity" and "Like a Prayer". Actually, it looks like they did stuff not on the show yet. I've already raved about "Bad Romance", but they also do "Faithfully" and a "Any Way You Want It"/"Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin'" mashup, which is in there upcoming "Journey to Regionals" CD coming out on June 8th. The CD is not all Journey though, just half, there's also "Bohemian Rhapsody", "To Sir, With Love", and a version of the Israel Hawaiian name I can't spell that's really long and starts with a K's "Over the Rainbow". In any case, ah can't wait, since Journey rocks, I'm eagerly anticipating "Faithfully"!

TV Commentary:

10 Things- Man, it really sucks this show is being canceled. Yeah, its yet another high school show, but this was actually one of the better ones- pretty good writing and cast, its kinda dumb that this gets canceled and Secret Life gets renewed. spoiler cut )

TV commentary:

10 Things- Dang, this show is getting canceled? That kinda sux. Particularly since Secret Life has outlasted this and other way better shows. Speaking of, the whole Make It or Break It plug was kinda weird, though it did payoff in the end. Now, was Bianca saying its "the number one drama, set in the world of competitive gymnastics", or "the number one drama set in the world of competitive gymnastics"? I mean, I would think the latter, but maybe in that universe Make It or Break It is that highly rated. And wait, "reprise" is pronounced "re-preez"? I always heard it as "re-prize"!

Flashforward- Oh, ha, weird, I just noticed Vogel is one of the guys Brian races in the beginning of "2 Fast 2 Furious" (the other two being Sucre and Miho being the other two). spoiler cut )

TV Commentary:

10 Things- You know, some people say Rachel Berry or Taylor Townsend are annoying freaks, but I find characters like Kat Stratford way more annoying. The former chyx, their behavior is a cry for help, they're trying to fill something missing in their lives. The latter is a kinda pretentious douche who think they're so great and that they're helping the masses by imposing their ideas on them. I mean, tonight's ep, if that had happened at my school, I'd totally be pissed off.

Campaigning to get a more vegetarian friendly menu at the cafeteria, that's fine. Forcing the school to have "meatless mondays"?! That's total BS! I'm sure its healthy, but I'd rather it be a choice. Its should be my prerogative whether or not I have a good and balanced diet. I mean, I'd prolly go with a salad (and hey, I'd even pick a dressing other than ranch/bleu cheese) once in a while if it was offered. But offering only veggie lasagna or soy dogs, I feel like the choice is being forced upon me.

Anyways, as for the plot of the more tolerable Stratford sister (at least in my mind) this week, Bianca gives a girl a makeover in the hopes that if Cameron finds someone else, he can get over her and be friends again. This brings up one of my other issues with the show, the whole Cameron/Bianca friendship has for me always been a case where they say and not show. I mean, they can say they were good friends, but the show hasn't really demonstrated that to me. Like what does she feel she's missing out on? I could at least understand it if they were friends for years and they just grew apart because Bianca wanted to be more popular, but they haven't even really known each other for more than a semester. It just rings false for me.

And then they had Bianca teaching this tall girl all this stuff about Cameron (okay, the Lost references were kinda funny, particularly when she was telling the girl all about Kate- "She blew up her father in his trailer, but later you find out she was totally justified". Though the line was wrong because it wasn't his trailer, it was their house. Not all southerners live in trailer parks! Even if they're poor.). Like from what they've seen from the show so far, I can see Cameron knowing some stuff about Bianca since he's trying to get in her pants, but I never saw a case where she'd have occasion to learn anything of substance of Cameron. Not that she's self-involved, just that it seems like he hid a lot of himself for fear it would turn her off.

I guess they say later she just did a lot of research on him. Which I was kinda skeptical about, like how could she find all that information so fast. But then I thought, between my facebook and LJ, one could figure out a lot about me. I mean, a quick glance of my profile and boxes on facebook, you'd know a lot of my favorite things, and everywhere in the world I've been and what books I've read. LJ is obviously more informative. Well, if one had the patience to read through the thousands of entries (~3400 as of this post!) Of course, I tend to get long winded and post so much, I bet most people gloss over a lot of stuff. (Like people prolly don't even know whats up with the two floor/one floor thing or what the hall to nowhere is) I mean, this post, since I didn't put the commentary under a cut, is already long enough that no one managed to read this far. Particularly since this is the middle and I still have 24 and House to comment on.

House- Woah, is it me, or did the queen have a totally awesome rack? And she was played by the white supremacist guy's daughter on Sons of Anarchy who set up Peggy Bundy to have that untoward thing happen to her. And then Peggy Bundy shot and killed her in the season finale. What a waste! spoiler cut )

24- I'm a little surprised (and disappointed!) of the recent turn of events spoiler cut )

Vampire Diaries- actually, the TWoP weecap reminded me of something which does illuminate an issue/problem I was curious about in my last post about the show. spoiler cut )

Awesome, while there are only 30 second samples of the rest of the Glee Madonna songs out currently, I didn't realize they had the entirety of Like A Prayer out to preview. Its pretty amazing, and seems to be the most diverse of the songs they've done as it seems to showcase more of the members in solos than any of the other songs up to this point. But yeah, I like the big ensamble numbers like these (this, Don't Stop Believin', Somebody To Love, Keep Holding On, You Can't Always Get You Want) they always sound incredible. Closely following those are the Lea Michele solos. People sometimes complain why she seems to get the lion share of songs, but with a voice like that, why wouldn't they give her more songs?!

Speaking of show choir, even though my singing is only passable, and I could do to sing louder, it is sad I didn't discover a joy of singing until later in life. I mean, if I had to do high school again, I definitely would try out for show or jazz choir or what have you. Maybe I'd sound better today if I had more practice like that back then. Of course, I'm also lazy. After all, I could try out for church choir (preferably one of the folk groups), but even though I make time to go to mass every Sunday and set aside time for daily prayers (is it me, or do my posts often seem like they're written by entirely different people?) I just don't feel like I can commit the additional amount of time needed for that.

Oh, but getting back to Madonna, I've never found her all that hot, but I've always liked her music. But people not liking her music? cliffV('What's up with that?!') Like, what's wrong with you?!

TV commentary:

10 Things- I guess its time to start thinking of the show as its own continuity and is going off in a radically different direction from the movie. spoiler cut )

Since they're relatively cheap, decided to upgrade my 8 gig flash drive to a 16 gig one over the weekend. So, I was pleasantly surprised that it arrived yesterday when I got home from work. Spent the next couple of hours doing laundry and switching rooms. I don't know if its good or bad that I was able to move everything around in a couple of hours. I mean, my room is by no means spartan, I have a fair amount of stuff. But I guess they're all in neat piles. Well, as neat a pile as you can have of various swords and airsoft pistols and machine guns. (And why the hell do I have handcuffs and a hardhat?)

TV commentary:

Chuck- Wait, this wasn't the season finale? I mean, it seemed very much like one, but there's new eps in three weeks. spoiler cut )

Gossip Girl- spoiler cut )

10 Things- spoiler cut )

Life Unexpected- spoiler cut )

TV Commentary:

10 Things I Hate About You- Seriously, it me or is TV Cameron like a friggin' giant? I mean, it seems like they cover it up with camera angles for the most part, but that one scene in the locker room, Cameron was dwarfing Joey. spoiler cut )

Smallville- OMG, I was wondering why Clark was taking Lois to a bed and breakfast, given in past eps, the whole him trying to have sexual relations with mere earth girls was supposed to be a problem. But ha, they address it by saying the training he had been undergoing gave him more "control" so he doesn't have to worry about accidentally killing some chick. How is this show still on?! But looks like the cat is out of the bag with Chloe and Oliver, as Clark and Lois know they're dating now.

Vampire Diaries- spoiler cut )
