So, voting has begun for this year's Tubeys on TWoP. So, here's some commentary on some of the nominees:
5) Most Painful Series Cancellation- I actually went with "10 Things I Hate About You". I thought it was a decent show that deserved to be picked up. And its ridiculous that its gone, and "Melissa and Joey" is in its place.
7) Most Anticipated New Show of the 2011-2012 Season- You know, while there are definitely new shows I'm going to check out next season, nothing really stood out as, "I really can't wait for that!"
16) Best HoYay! Couple- Didn't this site invent the term HoYay? But they seem to not know what it means. I mean, I don't think the term should encompass actual gay couples like Kurt and Blaine on Glee. Brittany and Santana is kinda iffy- back when you weren't sure they were bi/lesbian respectively and they jokingly hinted at it, yes. But once they actually turned them into a romantic coupling, they shouldn't be on the list.
Also not really HoYay? Annie/Britta on Community. That's fan-service, not HoYay. Also, just because two cop partners are of the same sex does not mean its automatically HoYay either. To me, HoYay is a same sex pair who are close and someone might suspect they're gay for each other, but they really can't be sure. Or if the show is playing the characters straight, but you can re-interpret their conversations as having gay undertones. Like Clark/Lex on the earlier seasons of Smallville. (In fact, aren't they the pairing that started the whole HoYay thing on TWoP?)
So yeah, Jack Black imagining Annie and Britta making out or wrestling in a sudsy kiddie pool or the two of them trying to show each other up on how cool and non threatened they are about lesbians does not qualify. And I never got a kinda gay vibe from Dano and McGarret on Hawaii Five-0 or the Good Guys (I can't seem to remember Colin Hanks or Bradley Whitford's character names). But yeah, Alaric and Damon on Vampire Diaries, Jon Snow and Samwell Tarly on Game of Thrones, House and Wilson, Bobby and Andy on Cougar Town, those are definitely HoYay.
17) Best Romantic Relationship- I'm normally not a big fan of the iconic pairing on shows (Ross/Rachel, Jim/Pam, and Seth/Summer being exceptions) Pacey getting the girl on DC was like one of my favorite things to happen on a show, because finally its the friend of the main character getting his due. A lot of the choices were kinda bland at best and toxic at worst. (I find it kinda hilarious that the Lannister twin-cesters are on there!). I actually ended up going with Dany and Khal Drogo from GoT. I thought they were a nice couple.
19) Best Almost-Romantic But Not Quite Relationship- Ooh, this was a real hard one for me, because 4 out of my 5 favorite not-canon couples were in there- Jeff/Annie from Community, Dan/Blair from Gossip Girl, Damon/Elena from Vampire Diaries, and Puckelberry from Glee. They had Barney on HIMYM on there with that Nora chick. Wasn't she just there for like one episode?! I guess maybe Barney and Robin don't qualify because they're exes? I actually went with Dair, because they've teased it too much this past season, I must see the show explore this, even if they'll prolly just end up ruining them.
24) Most Likable Geek: I'll actually list the nominees this time:
Abed from Community- my vote, since he's the one on this list I feel most akin to
Hardison from Leverage
Amy Farrah Fowler from Big Bang Theory
Astrid from Fringe (is she really geeky?)
Birkhoff from Nikita (is he at all likable?)
Burton Guster from Psych (I propose Shawn is just as geeky as him, just in a different way)
Chuck from Chuck
Claudia from Warehouse 13
Daniel from the Glades
Reid from Criminal Minds
Eric Beale from NCIS: LA
Glenn from the Walking Dead (other than being Asian, is he all that geeky really?)
Katie from No Ordinary Family
Kowalski from Penguins of Madagascar
Landry from Friday Night Lights (should he really count since he was hardly in this season?)
Leonard from The Big Bang Theory
Leslie Knope from Parks & Recreation (she seems more driven than geeky)
Max from 90210
Mozzie from White Collar
Palmer from NCIS
Rachel Maddow from The Rachel Maddow Show
Raj from The Big Bang Theory
Rory Williams from Doctor Who (I don't think he's that geeky, he's normal, and he just seems geeky because Amy looks so out of his league)
Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory
Shelley from Raising Hope
Sherlock Holmes from Sherlock (he seems more like a dick than geeky. If you're gonna put him on here, than why not House. But I guess the category also implies likable, and Sherlock is at least more likable than House)
Slater from The Vampire Diaries- (Who? Is he the werewolf geek or the vampire geek? Both were only in one or two eps and then they got killed by Elijah!)
Spinelli from General Hospital
The Doctor from Doctor Who
Tim McGee from NCIS
Walter from Fringe
Weird that they don't have Abby from NCIS or Garcia from Criminal Minds- I mean, personality wise they're very similar to Claudia from W13, and its not like they only kept it to one geek per show, because Fringe, NCIS, and BBT all have multiple entrants.
25) Best Musical Moment on a Scripted or Reality show- Obviously, there were several nominees from Glee on this. Also, various numbers from the Grey's Anatomy Musical episode. And they count the ending montage of the Friday Night Lights finale as a "musical moment"? But here's my comment on the Glee songs:
"Just the Way You Are", Finn- it was a fine rendition of the Bruno Mars song, but I'm slightly surprised its on this.
"Landslide", Santana/Brittany/Holly Holiday- This was a beautiful rendition of the Dixie Chicks' version of the Fleetwood Mac classic.
"Somewhere Only We Know", Blaine and the Warblers-
isabel79 will prolly be disappointed that this isn't the one I voted for.
"Trouty Mouth", Santana- while this was quite hilarious, there was no way I was voting on it over other choices.
"Teenage Dream", Blaine and the Warblers- This was so awesome, one of the best numbers of this season, but alas, I went with something else.
"Baby, Its Cold Outside", Blaine and Kurt- Bold for having two boys sing it to each other, and it was sung well, but this is another song that didn't really need to be nominated.
"I Wanna Hold Your Hand", Kurt- Beautiful rendition of the song.
"I Feel Pretty/Unpretty", Quinn and Rachel- This is what I voted for. Definitely my favorite song of the second season, and one of my favorites of the series so far. It just sounds so beautiful, and Quinn and Rachel's voices just blend together so perfectly.
"Don't You Want Me", Rachel and Blaine- Rachel pronounces things weird in this one.
"Rolling In the Deep", Rachel and Jesse- This was based on John Legend's acapella version rather than the original by Adele. Which was disappointing, because my favorite part of Rolling In The Deep was the drums.
"Firework", Rachel- A well done version of the song, though not a standout since its just a faithful rendition of the original.
"Get Happy/Happy Days Are Hear Again", Kurt and Rachel- Again, a fine duet, but not the Best Kurt/Rachel duet. Both the Wicked songs were better, I thought, so why the hell isn't "For Good" on here?!
"Valerie", Glee- I actually liked this number, it was catchy.
"Listen", Sunshine- It was okay, but the song wasn't my cup of tea.
26) Best Pop Culture Reference- I had to go with the Community/Cougar Town lovefest. The references to each other were just too good. It was like a crossover that wasn't really a crossover, which made it even better because it wasn't official.
5) Most Painful Series Cancellation- I actually went with "10 Things I Hate About You". I thought it was a decent show that deserved to be picked up. And its ridiculous that its gone, and "Melissa and Joey" is in its place.

Date: 2011-06-28 05:11 pm (UTC)Indeed, Garcia is a glaring omission, because she's definitely a geek, and since Kirsten Vangness is nominated in the favorite actress category, I assume they consider her likable as well. I mean, she's nowhere near as geeky as Reid, but she's still kinda geeky.(heh, certainly more geeky than Astrid!)
