Galavant- Totally forgot this started last night. I was a little skeptical of the show at first, even though you would think its my kinda thing, medieval fantasy/comedy musical? But I wasn't sold on the few seconds of music I had heard in the commercials. But, having watched the show, the songs sound better in their entirety.

I liked it, the songs are catchy and clever, and its pretty funny. I like Madalena (and, ooh, she's Aussie, so she's not faking the accent), not that Isabella isn't cute either. Which speaking of, apparently she was the girl who was kidnapped along with Alexis on Castle? She looks totally different!

But yeah, Lassie from Psych is the villain, Vinnie Jones is his top thug (heh, its amusing to see him in a musical comedy), and Galavant's squire is Magnitude from Community. Which, how did I not know Magnitude was British?! Or played Lee Jordan in the Harry Potter movies?!

It also surprised me. spoiler cut )

TV commentary:

Arrow- Birds of Prey! Heh, I know [livejournal.com profile] clevemire says Olicity is all in the shippers' heads and we're reading too much into things, but seriously, at the very least, he feels something deep for Felicity given the whole breaking the no-killing rule only for her. Like when Laurel was captured by that one serial killer and the guy was trying to fill her up with plastic, he couldn't bring himself to kill the guy, even though she was about to die. (Same for I think Thea the episode before, she was in mortal danger, and he held back.) Then this ep, he was telling Sara to not kill under any circumstances, even when she was all, "What if it comes down to her or my sister?" But when Count Vertigo was about to inject Felicity with Vertigo (which wasn't even going to be lethal, after all, they were able to cure Diggle later), he turned the guy into a pin cushion and dropped him out a window! Its like, she was in less danger than these other chyx, and he still instinctively killed for her, because it wasn't even a choice. Although I suppose its kinda twisted to use "he only kills for her" as proof for his feelings.

TV commentary:

Psych- Musical episode! Did I miss something in the beginning saying when this episode takes place? Because it seems to take place before the season finale. Like there's the line in one of the songs about Juliet not knowing Shawn is faking the whole psychic thing. Then there's Chief Vick still being in charge, didn't Anthony Michael Hall suspend her and take over and demote Lassie, as well as fire Shawn? Or rather saying they would no longer be hiring psychic consultants? Like yeah, Vick was only suspended for six months, but I doubt this is after she got back, and they just had her undo all of the changes off screen.

OUAT- Oh, weird, in the promo for when the show returns in March, I didn't realize that was Rebecca Mader as Elphaba. Actually, I do seem to remember hearing a few weeks ago she was being cast as a surprise character. Still think its a weird choice for a character to add, particularly if she is to be a villain. I would think Wicked is a more popular interpretation of the character, particularly nowadays, and especially amongst the OUAT audience. And like I said, she's not really a villain in that. Then again, Supernatural just had the Wicked Witch this season, and she was just some creepy old crone. Of course, that ep seemed to be more about putting Felicia Day's character somewhere where people won't keep asking why doesn't she show up more, without having to kill her. She's just busy in another dimension!

TV commentary:

The Americans- One thing that amuses me about this show is how the FBI and KGB are playing a game against each other but don't know they are. Or rather, they're seeing moves that are not there, or ascribe motivations to them that are wrong, so they react in a certain way, and then the other side does the exact same thing. spoiler cut )

What if Disney did Game of Thrones?

Hey, it combines two of my favorite things, Game of Thrones and musical numbers! And the chick who's playing Dany in this is kinda cute. Like a smaller nosed Ashley Tisdale.

TV commentary:

Psych- How appropriate that the two college students' catch phrase was "Boobs", cause I could not stop checking out that chick's. I mean, its on thing to be wearing the low cut white tank, but to have the low cut black bra underneath? C'mon, how are your eyes not drawn to that?

Anyways, my sources tell me the show is doing a Clue homage at some point? Awesome!

ME blather- I'm getting much better at multi-player. I've still only been solo-ing it, but I can last like 5 waves/20 minutes now. I'm learning how to utilize the characters better, and have a few decently leveled characters now. I named them and everything:

Asp- human female infiltrator. I managed to get a Mantis VII sniper rifle in one of the arsenal packs. At first, I was skeptical about how effective the weapon could be trying to solo since I had to reload after each shot. But I've learned to be more mobile. Get some distance, find some cover, pop off a head or two, then run and cloak to find another position to snipe from, lather, rinse, repeat. Of course, given the sheer number of enemies, that means I often have to melee guys I end up running into whilst changing positions. I should prolly use cryo-blast a little more too.

Cloak- Asari Huntress. Haven't played her since getting the upgraded Mantis, though given her biotic powers, I should stick with a lighter weapon. Prolly an SMG since I got a SMG power-magnifier.

Baz- Batarian Sentinel. I've only played Infiltrators and Soldier in the main game, so I was pleasantly surprised at how rugged Sentinels are, particularly with their armor power on. Alas, Batarian sentinels get blade armor instead of tech armor, so they can't detonate it, but they do have a huge bonus in melee, and damage opponents who try to melee them. I mean, you still don't want to go up against a Phantom or Banshee, because they'll insta-kill you at close range. But since I cut my teeth playing a Turian Cabal chick, I've gotten a feel for getting up close and personal.

Strella- Turian Cabal. My main character right now. I've finally gotten a feel for her- Having biotic focus always on, and definitely a lot of running in, carving the guys up with my poisoned claws, and then using poison strike to flee through the walls. I'll occasionally use it to attack and enemy behind a wall, but I mostly save it as a means of quick escape to phase through a wall really quick to run away.

7241- Geth Engineer. Since I realized you can work towards the achievements in both single and multiplayer mode, made a engineer so I could use their overload to work toward the "overload specialist" trophy, rather than replaying ME3 as an engineer.

If I do get that, I'm close to getting most of the achievements. Between MP and the Arena in SP, I should easily get the veteran trophy- I think I'm at 4000 out of 5000 enemies, which is surprising, because that's way more people than I've killed in AC3, and I'm practically a god in that, just wading into enemy forts and massacring everyone. Of course, in AC3, they don't count kills from the Tyranny of King Washington DLC, which is total BS, because I've killed a whole lot in that. Of course, WO3 my kill count has to be in the hundreds of thousands. But I digress. After getting the two aformentioned trophies, all I have left is to throw that party, I don't think I can get the last set, because that involves playing on Insanity. Then again, if [livejournal.com profile] sparkboy can do it, surely I can. I'm the older, and therefore better brother, HA! I could prolly get all the galaxy areas to 100% if I played enough MP as well. But that would take some time.

TV commentary-

True Blood- Interesting setup this episode. spoiler cut )

Warehouse 13- Heh, its Lassie and Captain Vick. Does this show do one ep a season with a pair of folks from other shows? There was the ep with Simon and Kaylee from Firefly, and the one with Jo and Zane from Eureka. spoiler cut )

Major Crimes- Hey, couple of cuties in this ep, Jenn Proske from Vampires Suck and Haley Webb from the Final Destination! The Jenn girl was blond in this ep, which is slightly disappointing, because she looks way hotter as a brunette.

Perception- Cool, the Stimulus Package girl with the nice rack is back. She should be around more, after all, it doesn't seem like too much time has passed on the show, so he should still be in the same semester and thus still have her as a student.

WO blather- more character commentary:

Orochi/Orochi-X: Obviously, being the bosses of the game, they're quite beastly. Orochi-X is definitely the more powerful one, but he has a smaller moveset than others. He only gets as high as a C4. Not that he needs that much else. And apparently he can't be hit out of attacks, so that means I don't need to use up one of his item slots for Iron Gauntlets.

Zhuge Dan: He's actually pretty good, mainly because of his R1 special. It summons a whirlwind shield around him, which you can stack. So you can put that up and just wade into the thick of it.

Magoichi: Ah, I can see how he ranks so low. The ranged weapon users definitely have disadvantages, particularly with keeping people off them. But he also has sucky weapon attribute activation. I'm not even sure which attack they activate off of! I guess brilliance will help, but it doesn't work on absorption/osmosis. Before I played him, I was going to give him osmosis since he's a wonder character. So I was trying to figure out what I needed to forgo, because it seems he definitely needed typhoon and echo to keep people off him and briliance to put a hurt on them. But since it doesn't seem like osmosis will get activated all that much, I don't see the point.

Huang Gai: Huh, I thought when they decloned the DW7 movesets in WO3, at least one person had the original moveset? Because I know Xu Zhu has some new moves, as he has the bouncing ball thing. But Huang Gai definitely doesn't have the normal club moveset. Is there another club user I'm forgetting about?!

Zhu Rong: She seems a tad safer than Yuanji, since her attacks aren't solely knife throwing. She does have a nice charge that's good for wading into enemies and I guess fighting you war out of trouble.

Ma Dai: Eh, he's not bad, but not particularly good either. His EX-attack is a little long, leaving him vulnerable, but luckily, he's a wonder character, so he can spirit charge out of it.

Psych- I think if I had seen Chinatown, I'd get more of the refs this ep (as it is the only thing I know about the movie is the mother-sister thing). In any case, it was obvious from the get go what was going on here. spoiler cut )

SVU- Okay, maybe I'm reading too much into things, but did Ellis have a thing for Liv? I mean, he has a kid, so he could be married, but I swear some of the earlier convos in the season seemed kinda flirty. But then when he put two and two together and figured she was dating Haden, I wasn't sure if he was mad because that kinda misconduct is what he's against, or if he was jealous.

I mean, her convo with Ellis afterward when she asked if he would tell seemed very, "I'm sorry I didn't let you know I was seeing someone, a rival even, even though I had a feeling you were into me". Or is it just because I'm prone to seeing things that way, I'm seeing it that way?

TV commentary:

Psych- Wait, was I mistaken, or did that episode totally have a time error? So, when Jules' dad shows up at the end because of Shawn's urgent message, Shawn said he sent that a week ago, and the implication was that he sent it right before the one trip, meaning only a week had passed between the beginning of last season's finale (or mid-season finale, or whatever) and the end of this episode.

But did they or did they not have a tag when Lassie announced he bought the suicide condo that said "two weeks later"? Did they mess up, or did I mishear when Shawn said he called "last week"?

So the fate of some of your other squad members in ME3: spoiler cut )

TV commentary:

Criminal Minds- So this week's "I have no idea if its made up or not statistic" was that crime in Atlanta is on the rise, particularly in the areas of drug use and prostitution. Granted, I don't drive around the areas where hookers hang out, but for some reason I'm skeptical there are a lot of hottie snowflakes amongst the Atlantean hooker population.

Psych- Wait, so when Shawn was giving his eulogy, he said no one close to him has ever died. Wait, what about Jimmy Simpson's character during the whole Yin-Yang thing?! I would say they were on friendly terms, certainly the same level of friendliness he had with Desperaux. Also, "Brutal Hustler" is one of Gus' more amusing nicknames.

Lost Girl- So did I miss something? When did the Doc become such a big rival to Dyson for Bo's affections? I mean, Bo and Lauren have always been friendly, and they've had a few fun nights out. But the scene with the three of them seemed super-awkward. I know Dyson isn't exactly Lauren's biggest fan and vice-versa, but it also seemed like there was an undertone of jealousy there. I'm not saying I didn't think Bo felt that way about Lauren, because its obvious they were going to try something with the two of them from the start. I just didn't know Dyson knew Bo felt that way about Lauren. And wait, is Kenzi always wearing a wig, or is one of the styles we see her in her actual hair?

Argh, can't sleep, I hate that. So I have the telly on- its that one ep of Psych where Yin or Yang (whichever one wasn't Ally Sheedy) captured both Juliet and Abigail and Shawn had to choose which one to try and save. Well, which one he'd go to personally, its not like he was the only character on the show who could do stuff. But he chose to save Abby with his dad, while Lassie and Gus went to rescue Juliet. As I said the first time I saw this ep, Juliet herself felt Shawn should save Abby, but I'm sure it didn't hurt any less that he did choose the latter. And even more hilarious that Abigail broke up with him right afterward because she couldn't take the danger.

Occasionally, I'll watch the Clone Wars cartoon if the commercial for the ep piques my interest and nothing else is on. And this one did look interesting enough. spoiler cut )

Oh, and watching the latest ep of Transformers Prime tonight, I did enjoy the Star Wars reference when Agent Fowler had to bluff Breakdown over comms. Is there any geek, who when seeing a protagonist in a TV or movie (or playing one in an RPG) who's subdued a guard post and the guard's allies are calling for a status update, don't think of that one Han Solo scene on the death star? That's what I immediately thought of when the situation arose, so it was amusing to see the show actually go there.
geebs: (Default)
So I'm almost caught up with last week's TV. I just have last week's and this week's Misfits currently, thought tonight adds Gossip Girl, HIMYM, House, Hart of Dixie, Hawaii Five-O, and Castle, I watch Gossip Girl, House, and Hawaii Five-0 live, followed by the recording of HIMYM, but since I'm off tomorrow, I should be able to get Hart of Dixie and Castle before I head up to NYC, and I'll catch up on Misfits up at the Parentals at some point.

Oh, and apparently there's an extended cut of Sucker Punch, which I just got, I'll catch that on the plane ride down.

TV commentary:

Psych- Is it me, or was last week's ep kinda offensive? I mean, first there was Gus (Suggs, Ha!) hitting on the hot mental patient (played by the always boobie-licious Julianna Guill), which was kinda amusing that the SVU ep airing at the same time as that episode also involved mental hospitals and going by that, if Gus did sleep with her, it would totally be rape because mental patients can't give consent, regardless of how high-functioning they may seem.

But secondly, the end, where they thwart the killer because the one institutionalized guy developed a "saxophone phobia", so they started playing Kenny G's "Songbird" on the stereo to make him go nuts and distract the guy with the gun. After that was finished and the guy was clearly in mental distress, Gus told Shawn not to stop the song because he like that part of the song? Wow, first trying to bang mentals, than torturing another just because he wanted to hear a smooth groove? WTF?!

Walking Dead- I guess what frustrates me most about reading boards about Walking Dead, is that it seems the majority of TV-only watchers don't seem to like a lot of the characters who end up surviving the longest in the comics or the developments occurring. I'd like to see the show succeed, and I know where the story goes, and I can definitely see the framework being built, but if other viewers don't like where things are headed, wouldn't viewership go down as they get dissatisfied at things as they develop? Because while the show has deviated a bit from the comics, there are still things they've kept.

So, a number of chyx I follow on Twitter were remarking how they had made EW's 29 Female TV Character's you date list. (29? Who makes a list of 29?!) I was hoping it was an actual article, defining why one would date this character, but it looks like they just had fans vote, and these are the results:

29) Erin from the Office (Ellie Kemper)
28) Katie from No Ordinary Family (Autumn Reeser)
27) Orwell from the Cape (Summer Glau)
26) Britta from Community (Gillian Jacobs)
25) Lisa from V (Laura Vandervoort)
24) Emma from Glee (Jayma Mays)
23) Kate from Fairly Legal (Sarah Shahi)
22) Ann from Parks and Recreation (Rashida Jones)
21) Sarah from Parenthood (Lauren Graham)
20) Kono from Hawaii Five-0 (Grace Park)
19) Lois Lane from Smallville (Erica Durance)
18) Temperance from Bones (Emily Deschanel)
17) Juliet from Psych (Maggie Lawson)
16) Claire from Modern Family (Julie Bowen)
15) Amy Pond from Doctor Who (Karen Gillian)
14) Joan from Mad Men (Christina Hendricks)
13) Ziva from NCIS (Cote De Pablo)
12) Tami from FNL (Connie Briton)
11) Olivia from Fringe (Anna Torv)- Hmm, but not Fauxlivia?
10) Pam from the Office (Jenna Fischer)
9) Gloria from Modern Family (Sofia Vergara)
8) Penny from the Big Bang Theory (Kaley Cuoco)
7) Liz Lemon from 30 Rock (Tina Fey)
6) Lily from How I Met Your Mother (Alyson Hannigan)
5) Robin from How I Met Your Mother (Cobie Smulders)
4) Arizona Robbins from Grey's Anatomy (Jessica Capshaw)- Ha, is her name really Arizona Robbins? That's hilarious!
3) Annie from Community (Alison Brie)
2) Kate from Castle (Stana Katic)
1) Sarah from Chuck (Yvonne Strahovski)

Heh, its a fair list, but I was thinking there were more than a few hot datable chyx omitted from this list, but then I realized the characters were mostly teens, which I assume disqualifies them from this category.

Psych- I forgot to talk about this week's Psych, which I would prolly found more entertaining if I was an avid Twin Peaks watcher. I mean, I remember enough from when my mom watched it to get some of the jokes, but from what I could tell, there were a ton of references.

Bones- spoiler cut )

The Good Guys- Aw, wasn't the blind gun shop owner having his little granddaughter help him out with the explosives and sniper rifles in his store the cutest thing ever? Also, later at the bar, the bad guys were indeed correct in stating, "Who wants to blow up a hot chick!" Indeed!

And wait, what exactly is the cute nerdy chick's position? Also, I thought we were in the second season of the Good Guys, but the description for next week's ep says its the "season 1 finale".

TV commentary:

Psych- Seriously, while I'm amused by obscure references, sometimes Shawn makes insanely obscure ones. I mean, "Don't be the Fine Young Cannibal's Cover of Suspicious Minds"? What the frak does that even mean?! Speaking of that cover though, why does Xavier St. Cloud sing the words funny? And why is the guitarist (or is it bassist?) dancing like a crazy person? Seriously, what's going on with his legs? I don't get it!

Last night, decided to try the Little Azio's down the road for dinner. WTF is up with the parking in that complex?! I ended up having to park so far away! Of course, when I walked the friggin five minutes from my space to the place, there was a space open right out front. Anyhoo, I placed my order and sat down, and I'm pretty sure I saw a certain whiny little bitch sitting at the table across from me. Well, I googled him later, and I'm 60% sure (I know my twitter said 75% at the time, but whatever) it was him. Oh, and apparently all those years ago when I caught a glimpse of his wife, and thought she was kinda cute, I guess I was wrong! (Again, if it was indeed him)

As I went to get a sausage, egg, and cheese biscuit from Junior's, passed a train of incoming frosh going to whatever FASET thing is going on this morning. And one of them was this hottie nymphet that totally looked like Sarah Hyland in a skimpy little summer dress. Though unlike Sarah Hyland, who just looks jail-baity, I supposed this chick could be actual JB, being incoming and all. You know, I just realized I'm old enough to be these kids fathers! Well, if I knocked their mom up when I was a HS freshman.

Since [livejournal.com profile] clevemire posted a review of War, Inc. the other day, which I saw last Christmas, that had me thinking. Is it messed up that I don't see why Minnie Driver and Marisa Tomei's characters are making such a big deal about John Cusack's character(s) being hitmen? Like being all that's something "you never do", isn't that being a little melodramatic?

TV Commentary:

Psych- You know, I'd been lukewarm to this season, but last night's episode had me LOL-ing (That means I thought what you said was funny!). Although the ending was total BS! I mean, I guess that's the way you would have expected it to end, but still! spoiler cut )

Degrassi- Ah, the misleading promos strike again! So the promo voiceover is talking about people finding new love interests and show Claire being all, "He is just so (noise that could possibly be "unfffff!")" about Eli as if she really wants to do him. But in the actual ep, in context, she's actually saying "He is just so ugh!", as in she finds him all frustrating. spoiler cut )
