The Americans- One thing that amuses me about this show is how the FBI and KGB are playing a game against each other but don't know they are. Or rather, they're seeing moves that are not there, or ascribe motivations to them that are wrong, so they react in a certain way, and then the other side does the exact same thing. So the KGB thinks the meeting with the Colonel is a trap. And it turns out Granny is being protective of the Jennings, she doesn't want them to go to the meet anymore than they want to (not that they know that, hence requesting Claudia get transferred, but they have to follow orders. So Elizabeth and Phillip are fighting over who gets to be the one who falls on their sword and go to the meet and most likely get captured. Elizabeth wants to go, and tells Phillip he needs to take the kids and get ready to run away immediately, because if it is a trap, they won't be able to stall since Stan will recognize her immediately. Phillip says she has to be the one to flee with the kids because she's their mother and they need her. So, he eventually sneaks off to meet with the Colonel, leaving Elizabeth with the more menial task of picking up the recordings from the car outside that one guy's house with the bug.
Claudia insists Arkady cancel the meet, but he feels there's insufficient evidence. That is until Stan takes Nina to the safehouse and tells her he can finally extract her (heh, and you can tell she's all "shit, this couldn't have happened before I decided to be a triple-agent!") and that they have "something big" coming up.
So she immediately tells Arkady, who thinks the meeting with Colonel is a trap, so he sends a warning. Phillip misses the signal, so he meets with the Colonel anyways, who reveals that the star wars program is a sham. Claudia, who was secretly shadowing the meet, because she does care about her charges, finally notices the signal and goes to exfiltrate Phillip. Only when they realize no one is swarming them, that the recording car is a trap, and Elizabeth is in trouble.
Indeed, the big op Stan was talking about was a sting to capture whoever went for the car. So basically, he unwittingly warned the FBI through triple-agent Nina, but the KGB were totally expecting this other thing to be a trap, so they had the info, they just got it wrong. Which is pretty much par for the course for these guys. Phillip rescues Elizabeth before she can get captured, but not before she gets shot. He is able to get her to a doctor in time, wherein Claudia reveals she's been transferred, and Elizabeth asks Phillip to come home. That's gonna make things complicated with Martha!
Anyways, he wants to stay with Elizabeth as she recovers, so calls Stan(!) and tells him to watch the kids as they had to leave town to take care of Elizabeth's great aunt who fell down the stairs.
But yeah, I'm kinda curious who came out ahead here. The KGB has their meet and got some vital info and eluded capture. But the FBI do finally have confirmation on this man/woman duo. The FBI will prolly be pissed because they were making that one guy sweat, and he totally had info on the meet with the Colonel, which they'll be kicking themselves to learn they missed. Plus, Claudia totally kills that one guy Elizabeth couldn't. So they'll prolly be pissed about that as well.
Still, kinda lame cliffhanger. Its like, "Oh, will Paige find weird recordings in Russian that she won't understand in the laundry room?" What if she does? She wouldn't know what to make of it!
Psych- So, to prove he loves Juliet, he resolves to tell Chief Vick. (who I still think totally knows anyways) Juliet appreciates the sentiment and stops him, not wanting to blow up all the good he's done and he could do. I guess its weird, so the police are willing to have him consult if his findings are through psychic powers, but if he's just a really good detective, they can't? I mean, can't they consult with an outside detective agency for help? So wait, what's the excuse for working with Sherlock in either the British or American series? Obviously Sherlock is not psychic, that does seem like an example of working with an outside detective agency. Not that those are real either, but couldn't they use whatever fake reasoning they do on there for Shawn?
