May. 3rd, 2011 01:36 pmTV commentary:
Chuck- Well, that was a surprise. So Agent X is actually Volkoff! And he used to be a scientist and friend of Orion imprinted with an early version of the intersect. Only something went wrong, and he went from being himself into becoming Volkoff. And apparently Orion had spent his life trying to fix that mistake. So wait, I would think if he and Chuck's dad were friends, Frost had to know him, so when she went on her mission, she was doing it for her husband? To like keep a close eye on him until Orion could figure out some way to fix Volkoff?
Its a good thing Chuck and Ellie have decided not to just keep quiet about it like Casey suggested and that they will try to pursue fixing Volkoff secretly. I would think they'd have to contact their mom and ask her all about it.
Owel, Volkoff's mom was pretty cool, and it was amusing to see Casey think she was so awesome.
Oh, I was wondering if the Cat Squad was going to show up at the bachelorette party. I mean, yeah, we never knew about them prior to a few eps ago (save for Carina), but it seemed like Sarah had become friends with them again, so it would mess with continuity if they, her only actual female friends besides Ellie would not be there. So I'm glad they at least had a line about how they were on some mission and couldn't make it.
Though that means Ellie invited a bunch of her coworkers who don't actually know Sarah, and the wienerlicious girls, which 1) does Sarah actually still have that as a cover? and 2) it seemed like she was the only employee before. Now there are several employees that know Sarah enough to be all, "sure, we'll go to her party!"?
Also, so Ellie did indeed not know Chuck was the intersect. I want to call shenanigans on that. So all this time, she just thought he was a CIA agent with no special abilities? What, that he decided one day, "I'm going to do something with my life other than the Buy More!" and trained to become a spy? Ah'm skeptical!
Make It or Break it- Huh, I wonder where things are going. So Emily isn't sure what to do about this baby. At first, she was doing a kinda chicken egg thing, where she was going to wait until she learned whether she was gonna still be on the World team or not. I mean, makes sense, if her gymnastics career was over anyways, the decision would be made for her. But then Simon Tam say she did make it to World's, which means she finally had to face it.
And like Kaylie, she feels like her "dream" is killing her. That there's so much pressure. And its interesting that the fact that she has luckily made it through this trial and that makes her feel even worse, because she hasn't really gotten a chance to truly shine over the course of the series. I mean she's messed up as much as she's done well, and the fact that people are helping her out because they believe in her when she doesn't even believe in herself freaks her out.
The last straw is when Chloe tells Simon Tam about the pregnancy, and this time the NGO doesn't come down on her. They say, its happened before, and they can "take care of it", and she can be back training for worlds by next week. So now she's pissed that the NGO "decided" to make her have the procedure. Which wasn't what Simon was implying at all. He was trying to tell her, its no big deal, and trying to show her the NGO isn't out to destroy her. But since she couldn't believe any less in herself, the fact that they are giving her a chance is driving her nuts. Because they believe in her, which means she can't let them down.
It seems like Simon was in a damned if you do, damned if you don't sitch, because had he gone the other way, and chastised her for getting knocked up and told her she was in big trouble, then it would just be reinforcing her opinion of them. This drives her to tell Damon she's pregnant, and now they can be together forever. I wonder if they are going to go some route where she's overly hormonal, because she was certifiably insane this ep.
Anyways, unfortunately for her, Kaylie and Damon got caught up in the moment during one of their recording sessions and kissed. But, she didn't want to hurt Em like that, especially since she knows exactly how it feels to be betrayed like that with Lauren and Carter. So, she goes over to the Kmetkos as Emily is packing to move in with Damon (amusingly enough, Damon never actually said yes to any of this) and tell her what happened. Poor Emily, you can see how the reveal was entirely soul crushing. She had given up on her Olympic dream to live out her dream of living happily ever after with Damon, but with Kaylie and Damon kissing, that's gone too.
So, she runs away to Vegas. And it seemed like a sendoff! Is she going to be gone from the show? Since ABC family would never have a show where a girl actually aborts a baby, I want to say if Emily is not gone, she'll conveniently miscarry?
But yeah, getting back to Damon and Kaylie, the record studio loved his song that he wrote with Kaylie, so he wants her help to finish his album. But at the end of the ep, given what happens with Emily, it actually motivates her to go back to gymnastics. So wait, are they going to just drop that music subplot, or is she going to try and do both?
Emily's pregnancy also affects the Summer-Steve-Sasha triangle. Lauren begs her daddy to propose to Summer before she falls for Sasha again. And so he proposes, and she wants to think about it. But then when she finds out about Emily's pregnancy, and that Sasha is even entertaining the idea of Emily choosing her career over having a child, she runs to Steve's arms and says yes.
And wow, Lauren apparently does have a conscience. She develops a bit of a tick in her routine because of her deep guilt over what she did to Sasha and how they're working together again. But Sasha helps her work it out, and now she feels Sasha does care about her as much as the other girls. So, she secretly sends the whole video showing Sasha isn't some creepy perv, and he apparently is becoming the new coach for the US world team.
So, she's the one who creates the problem, and fixes it, and no ones the wiser?! See while I like to believe no one, even fake TV characters, are truly horrible, the whole end scene feels kinda false. I mean, Lauren is all friends and teammates forever to Kaylie and Payson, but when it comes down to it, she's still keeping that huge secret of how she effed them over big time! Its like she's facing no consequences for the horrible things she's done!
