Broadchuch- Interesting to compare the season finales of both Broadchurch and Gracepoint. spoiler cut )

TV commentary:

Broadchurch- I found Gracepoint entertaining enough, and with the second season of Broadchurch starting up, I figured I'd at least check out the first and last eps of it before the 2nd season, maybe check the rest out if I have time. But since I heard the shows were basically the same, I figured I'd get the gist of it. Mostly I wanted to see it so I know what the British version of the characters looked like.

Its interesting what's the same, and what's different. Since the innkeeper in Gracepoint was English, as I've said before, I thought it would be amusing if the innkeeper in Broadchurch was American, but alas, she is not. The police chief is a woman, so that's also different. And maybe I'm not remembering the first ep of Gracepoint right, but it seemed they had Beth realize Danny was missing a little earlier, and had her panic and start calling everyone trying to figure out where he is. I thought in the American version Danny being missing didn't have a chance to sink in before they found the body. I also swear they mentioned Beth and Mark having Chloe in HS, but I don't think they mentioned the particular ages in Gracepoint (Beth being 15, Mark being 17, because watching Gracepoint, I think I assumed they had her when they were both seniors since they mentioned something about Beth's college dreams, so I thought she was already looking at colleges)

Interestingly enough, the initial autopsy in Broadchurch had Danny strangled- so it seems like things couldn't have played out the same way they did in Gracepoint. I wonder if they changed that so they could make the change they did in the American version.

But yeah, British Beth is cute, though not as cute as the American version. British Chloe's cuter though (hey, the actress is 18, so its fine to say that!) Her bf looks very similar to the American version, as does Danny. Susan looks quite similar as well. But heh, I did find it weird that Ellie's nephew was dressed almost exactly the same tho, like it was uncanny. I mean, the actors were both brown haired white dudes, but since they both had the brown jacket and messenger bag, they seemed the most similar looking out of all the characters to me.

Interesting though, the relationship between Ellie and her nephew seemed way more antagonistic in Broadchurch. Like in Gracepoint, they seemed relatively okay with each other, but like the moment he first bumped into Ellie in Broadchurch, she's like, "Oh, great, its this little shit!"

They also seemed to make a bigger deal about him revealing Danny was dead in the news. Like I don't remember the family being so pissed, but again, maybe I'm not remembering the first ep of Gracepoint as well.

While Hardy/Carver seem mostly the same, other than one having a Scottish accent, I don't seem to remember him having as much disdain for the local cops in Gracepoint. But in Broadchurch he seemed to make a bigger deal about how he's the best man for the job because the Broadchurch cops are basically a bunch of hicks with no experience with a murder investigation. I don't remember him trash talking them in Gracepoint.

Ellie's husband looks pretty similar to Mark's employee in Broadchurch, so it makes more sense that someone would confuse the two.

Oh, and I guess another person I recognize is the British version of Nick Nolte's character, played by Argus Filch/Walder Frey.

So, got $150 worth of itunes gift cards from various sources. So far, I've used it to buy Charlie XCX's latest album, "Sucker", Little Big Town's previous album, "Tornado", the Kinky Boots soundtrack, a smattering of songs by Ariana Grande, Becky G, Clean Bandit, and BJ Thomas, as well as the last two eps of Legend of Korra.

Anyways, I was looking up the movie Kinky Boots was based on, interestingly enough there were a lot of people who's names I recognize in the cast. Like Don was being played by Nick Frost, and Lola/Simon was played by Chit-that guy who's name I can't spell/pronounce, so I'll just say, The Operative from the Serenity, Lauren was the innkeeper from Gracepoint (who was apparently in 14 eps of Felicity, but I do not remember her being on at all!), and Charlie was Joel Edgerton, who, the commercials of Exodus act like he's a name people should know. But looking him up, the only thing that seems notable is the young version of Uncle Owen from Star Wars in Episodes 2 and 3.

Oh, and he was apparently in Smokin' Aces, which, while there are tons of famous peeps in that movie, there's also a number of peeps I didn't realize were in that movie that surprise me- like Carter from PoI being the sniper lady, and Chris Pine being the head of the Tremors. But I guess its because they were playing roles way different than I'm used to seeing them in.
