Oh, the other day Family Guy made a joke about that tv-movie "starring a cast of people that make you say 'oh', because you didn't know they were still acting". Granted, David Faustino seems to be doing mostly voice work nowadays, but hey, he was Mako in LoK! And apparently Grant Show has been in a bunch of stuff since Melrose (not to mention Swingtown) according to his imdb profile. Apparently he was in a few eps of Burn Notice? Why do I not remember that? But Rachael Leigh Cook and Robin Tunney are female leads on their very own shows! Sure, RLC's show was just canceled and the Mentalist is in its final season. But I thought the Mentalist was kinda popular back in the day. Also, their go to for Robin Tunney is "the bald chick from Empire Records"? Though I guess if they said, that chick from the Craft, they might have though Fairuza Balk or Neve Campbell. She at least ranks over whoever the fourth girl was.

So the music from this week's upcoming ep of Glee is out. Apparently its a bunch of Carole King and Alanis Morissette songs, which seems like a pretty random combination. And I'm kind annoyed they used some of my least favorite Alanis songs. Like "Hand in Pocket". Its just such a weird song! I can't believe Dawson's Creek was originally going to use it as it's theme song, because "I Don't Want to Wait" just seems so iconic to that show. Like if they used the Alanis song, it might have turned me off of the show. Like my whole life could be different because I wouldn't have watched it!

But I digress, here's the tunes:

It's Too Late- Klaine duet of the Carole King classic. Pretty good!

So Far Away- Another Carole King classic, done by Quinn and Tina. Have they ever had a song together? They sound amazing on this.

Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow/Head Over Feet- sung by Jane and Mason. I'm actually curious about how this song will play out in the show, like why is Mason singing with Jane instead of his sister? Will it end up being a the twins are a little too close, so the club is having them sing with other people? But yeah, I think this is the best of the mashups, because I like the sound of the new newbies in this.

You Learn/You've Got a Friend- An ensemble number. You've Got a Friend is one of my all time favorite songs, so I'm not too keen on them mashing it up with something. Particularly You Learn, since they don't really seem like they go together. I mean, it doesn't sound as discordant as I expected. Its not great, its fine.

Hand in Pocket/I Feel the Earth Move- Britanna duet. Heh, like I said above, my disdain for Hand in Pocket may have prejudiced me a little against this, but it does at least sound kinda fun.

Dangit, was hoping to fly first class to NY for the Christmas break this year. Last year, if you counted the checked in baggage charge for Economy, then the difference between the two was only $150, so it was totally worth it to upgrade. This year the difference is freaking $700. Screw that, I ain't paying that much more for 1st.

So [livejournal.com profile] clevemire was telling me about this list he saw of the 50 most (over?)-used songs in TV and movies. And there were 2 he didn't recognize- "Fade Into You" by Mazzy Star and "Have a Little Faith in Me" by John Hiatt. Only, he couldn't remember the names when he was first telling me about it. But for "Fade Into You", he did mention a linked youtube video of scenes that used the song. One of which was Rory and Dean at a dance. Which, I accidentally first guessed the Sundays' cover of "Wild Horses", but thats the song Buffy and Angel danced to at prom. Then I remembered it was actually that Mazzy Star song. He had to look up later what the "piano"-y song was, which was "Have A Little Faith in Me".

Which I also did know as well from one of my ghey-ass shows, Dawson's Creek. To me, its the song playing in the series finale when Pacey kissed Joey at Dawson's moms second wedding, to make it clear to Virginia Madsen that it was over between them. But, since most of the songs in that ep where iconic songs from throughout the series, it was also used for some Dawson-Joey kiss way back in season two. But given I'm a PJ-shipper all the way, I choose to associate it with that scene.

TV commentary:

The Originals- Heh, Hayley and Rebekah finally meet, and weird, I guess it is the first time Phoebe Tonkin and Claire Holt had a scene together after all this time playing characters in this universe. Which is amusing because they were both on H2O in Australia when they were younger, so I figured they would meet and have some sort of clever nod back in last season of The Vampire Diaries. But nope, its not until now that they have a scene. spoiler cut )

OMG, I just noticed that DC is now on Itunes and Netflix. Awesome! Not so awesome, they changed the friggin music in a lot of the eps. Is it weird that I've seen these eps so many times that I noticed the music is wrong? But yeah, it kinda takes some of the enjoyment out of it. Like I'm glad I was able to find a version of "Castaways" with the right music, but I still haven't found a version of "Cinderella Story" with the correct song at the end. I mean, I have a low quality version of the scene, but I haven't found a whole version of the original ep. Not even sure how I'd go about finding it.

Also, I usually skip past the credits on the DVDs, but I saw the itunes and netflix versions don 't have Paula Cole's "I Don't Wanna Wait" in the opening credits. cliffv('What's up with that?!')

Don't Trust the B in Apartment 23- Just caught the first two episodes of this on Hulu. I enjoyed it, which is good, as I wanted watch this show for more than just supporting the family. (Hey, I actually did enjoy Traffic Light!) I enjoyed the second ep more than the pilot.

Granted, I was more of a Pacey/Joey shipper, so its their dialog is the one I know inside and out (Sadly, I wish I was exaggerating, but no one is more surprised than I that I can recite like the end scenes of "Cinderalla Story" or "True Love", or the entirety of "Castaways". Is it equally ghey that I actually know the names of the big P/J eps off the top of my head?). But I wanted to call shenanigans on the Beek's speech they claimed was end of the first season, because 1) I do kinda remember the end of that ep, and that did not sound familar at all, and 2) It doesn't sound like something Dawson would say to Joey at the end of season 1.

I mean, first season it was Joey who was interested in Dawson, and he was the one who was oblivious because Jen had just moved into town. And the dialog just wouldn't fit with the end of that ep- Joey and Pacey had just gotten back from visiting her dad in jail, after her father convinced her to finally tell Dawson how she really feels, only to walk into Dawson's bedroom and find Jen in there with him, all sad because her gramps just died. So she runs off, and Dawson finally finds her, and she's all, she has the opportunity to study abroad in France, and there's no reason for her to stay, and he hems and haws for a while before they finally kiss. So its not like Dawson was the one who realized they had something that might ruin their friendship and he was trying to stop her from walking away from it, she was practically begging Dawson to give her a reason to stay.

I don't know why I'm dwelling on this so much, I guess its if you're going to claim you were ripping off dialog from a real episode of Dawson's Creek, rip off real dialog from the show! Don't make up some line and then be specific about what episode it was in. Because someone who actually watched the show (though again, I have surprisingly not seen every episode of DC, which baffles [livejournal.com profile] clevemire to no end, because how can one claim a show to be one of your favorites when you haven't seen it in its entirety?) would be all, that didn't happen in that show!

Tried the dorito shell tacos at taco bell. They're quite messy. I dunno how I feel about my hands being caked in doritos dust after eating these.

TV commentary:

Alcatraz- Heh, I don't know why I still get a kick out of it whenever they show previous 63s they recaptured just sitting in their cells (or just hanging around in the background in the past). Like I don't know what SAG rules are, but since they don't speak, how much do they actually get paid? Well, not as much as a role with a line, I'm sure, but I guess prolly a decent amount for just standing around somewhere for a minute.

What I am curious about is who they decide to use for those scenes? Well, the only two I recognize is the first guy and sniper guy, and I guess in the current time they showed one other guy in this ep. Are those the only actors they could get back, or are those the only ones they were able to take alive?

One Tree Hill- Eh, after catching last week's ep, I wanted to see how things turned out, so I'm watching it right now. Heh, are they going to pull a DC here? Julian finally thinks he has the perfect idea for his soundstage after re-reading "A Kindness of Ravens". He realizes that while it didn't work as a movie, it might work as a TV show. So just like Dawson created Dawson's Creek on the show, is Julian going to create OTH?

Huh, so I'd been seeing promos for that new "Don't Trust the B in Apt 23", and it seemed interesting enough, particularly since James Van Der Beek was playing himself. But, I guess since Traffic Light is dunzo, my cousin's husband is producing that now. And since it comes on right after Modern Family, I have no excuse not to support the family and watch it. I mean, what else am I going to do during that half hour between Modern Family, and whatever show comes on at 10pm (Psych, SVU, Southpark)

But the "B" is played by Krysten Ritter (VM's Gia Goodman, though you may remember her as Lucy on Gilmore Girls, or as gothy landlord lady on Breaking Bad, or chick flicks 27 Dresses and Confessions of a Shopaholic) who I was always strangely attracted to. But its funny, because all the commercials focus on her or the Beek, but from the show description it sounds like Dreama Walker (Gossip Girl's Hazel, although you may know her as one of Clint Eastwood's A-hole grandkids in Gran Torino) is the other major character. FYI, she was my next favorite of Blair's minions after Penelope on GG S1.

Cool, just caught the trailer for BSG: Blood and Chrome, which takes place after Caprica but before BSG. Basically, it follows young Adama during the first Cylon war. Alas, given the bad taste left in many fans mouths by the BSG luddite BS ending, and the failure of Caprica, this show is being demoted to a webseries.

Which kinda sucks, because this looks totally bad-ass! I mean, its the first Cylon war, so gigantic space battles, humans fighting hulking cylon death machines. I watched Caprica all the way through, and while I thought it was passable entertainment, it was kinda boring. Its like gee, I wonder what people would rather see, space dogfights and soldiers fighting robots, or an hour of boring religious, social, and political commentary? Caprica even had the friggin Matrix in it, and they squandered that potential! I'm sure if you had more of Zoe kicking ass in there (particularly when she started becoming god there), more people would've tuned in.

Gossip Girl- After the depressing turn of events on last week's Glee before the hiatus, I'm really glad Gossip Girl is going in to the break on a happy note (well, at least for Dair, who cares about anyone else?).

But before we get into that, I totally had a feeling CeCe knew the truth and was going to leave something big to Ivy (I didn't realize she was going to leave everything though). Is it me, or was Ivy kicking Lily out of the apartment a bluff? It seemed like she was telling them to leave in the hopes that Lily would be all, "but we have nowhere to go", and then Ivy would be able to reluctantly yet magnanimously offer to let her stay. And then with them stuck under the same roof with her, she would be able to mend fences, because it seems like she really does care for them. But then Rufus has to be all, "Eh, we have an apartment in Brooklyn!" Which I'm sure Dan and Blair will be thrilled with (but more on that later!)

Also, as soon as William showed up, that he was going to be Lola's dad. Ha, so Serena and real Charlie aren't just cousins, they're half-sisters!

And Georgina, feeling she went out on a high note, is ceding the Gossip Girl title to Serena? I guess we'll have to wait until the break to see if she accepts it.

Finally, onto the good stuff, the Dair. So while Georgina is busy at the wake, she leaves the GG stuff to Phillip. Who proceeds to accidentally upload an email from Chuck outing Dan as the sender of the video. So even though Chuck ends up looking like an a-hole, he thinks this will get him back in to Blair's heart. While I am annoyed that Dan did actually end up sending the video (ostensibly to stop the wedding because she seemed miserable and he figured she didn't really want to get married, he had no idea it would cause the whole prenup mess), its pretty hilarious that Blair forgave Dan easily and quickly. And then when Georgina steal's Dan's phone to frame him for uploading the picture of them kissing, destroying Blair's marriage, Chuck admits his complicity and deflects by claiming Dan isolated Blair. Instead of furthering the chaos, Dan just bows out, since Blair has enough to worry about.

Honestly, I can't see how anyone seeing Chuck's behavior and Dan's behavior in this episode think Blair should be with Chuck. I mean, I'm dumbfounded people are feeling sorry for Chuck. Oh, poor guy, he didn't get the girl after not backing off and doing the exact thing she told him not to last week or else she would lose him, and ruining her family!

But aw, how sweet was the end, when Blair showed up, and Dan thought she was mad at first. And his face as he slowly got all hopeful, almost not wanting to believe she's choosing him, finally lighting up when she said her heart was with him now. (I know I keep comparing these two to Pacey and Joey, but I was getting flashbacks to the dock scene at the end of "True Love" on DC) And then his remarks about her referring to him as Dan instead of Humphrey or Brooklyn or Cabbage Patch? As I said at the start of this post, after all the depressing Faberry stuff going into the Glee hiatus last week, I'm glad at least Dair are entering the break on a good place.

Talk about another pretty big Lily/Rufus/Blair/Dan parallel though, with Blair and Lily both losing their wealth at the same time, and Dan and Rufus taking them in.

Heh, even though the promo seems to indicate they're rehashing that one Seth/Summer sex plot from s1 OC, I'm amused by the haters jumping on this as an indication that Dan and Blair aren't right for each other. Obviously they haven't seen that ep of the OC, since S/S worked through that mess rather quickly. I'm guessing the same will happen with Dan and Blair.

And I just saw a comment on the Dair community bringing up the Seth/Summer parallels, I totally didn't see the similarities between Atomic County and the Inside until now. And Dan and Blair both having Cabbage Patches, that's almost like Captain Oats and Princess Sparkle!

TV commentary:

Glee- Some more thoughts on last night's ep, now that I'm not distracted by the other shows I watch while trying to type this up. For one thing, I don't think the show was trying to say Kurt was at fault for what Kurofsky did. But I think its natural for the people around Dave to feel incredibly guilty and think they did something to trigger it, or didn't do something that could've prevented it. Also, people were complaining it was too sudden for Karofsky, he was being bullied for less than a week and it drives him to suicide? It wasn't just the bullying, as they revealed he's apparently had issues for a while, even if we didn't know his motivation in the beginning. They've made it clear on the show that Dave was a bully because he was a self-hater, and being outed like that is his worst nightmare come true. Add to that how alone he felt- his parents thought he could be "cured", Asimov apparently shunned him, the only person he thought he could talk to was Kurt, who wasn't returning his calls (but again, this in no way means its Kurt's fault for not talking to him), and between the first Scandals scene and the flashback Sebastian had, its clear Karofsky hadn't found anyone outside of Kurt. I mean, its a TV show, so things are generally going to be condensed, but I don't think this arc was too sudden, it was stretched out across two seasons.

That being said, I suppose the episode could've been a little too "very special episode" for people's tastes. Particularly with Sebastian deciding to stop being a dick because of what happened. It just seemed jarring and sudden. Also, it was weird for Santana to not be involved in this storyline at all. For one thing, they were each other's beards. If anyone knew what Dave was going through, its her. I mean, Kurt was out and proud. Before Santana was outed, they've had her talk about how scared she was of people finding out. And then when she was, her Abuela shunned her. Granted, Kurofsky's story has been tied in with Kurt, but I think there were obvious parallels they could have done with Santana, and like I said, its not like they were strangers.

I also think they ended up cramming a little too much in the episode. They probably could've separated Karofsky's suicide attempt from Regionals and the Finchel wedding, but I guess it did influence both those storylines. The wedding in particular, since it was moved up because "Life's too short".

In any case, after the E! poll and the past couple of episodes, I'm fully on the Faberry train. Like I've said countless times, the show makes it way too easy to read it that way. cut for your benefit )

And the new arc even lends itself to a Rachel/Quinn pairing, with the tragic accident leading them to re-evaluate their lives and realize they're feelings for each other. Heh, according to my sources, this accident will cause Quinn to "realize who she wants to spend her life with". However, I'm pretty sure its not Rachel, but it would be totally awesome and hilarious if the show did go that direction. But I'm sure there'll be some convoluted reason for her to fall for one of the other guys on the show. Because as much as I would be thrilled for Rachel and Quinn together, its a crackship.

Then again, I thought Robin and Barney on HIMYM, Jeff and Annie on Community, and Dan and Blair on Gossip Girl, hell even Pacey and Joey on DC were crackships early in those show's runs, and look what happened with all of those!

Oh, and I forgot, it really sucks we'll have to wait 6 friggin weeks to find out what happens.

So I was looking up the track listing for Just Dance 3. Its not a game I'd ever play, but I was curious what songs they had the kids dancing today. (Heh, and how amusing is it that Robin Sparkles' "Let's Go to the Mall" is in this) Anyways, while listening to the various tracks, got into Scissor Sisters (who to me seem like Pink Floyd meets the Bee Gees) . Their particular song in JD3 is I Don't Feel Like Dancing, the video of which I found totally amusing. (for some reason, the intro makes me think of Alabama's "Mountain Music") But speaking of their videos, what's up with their vid for "Invisible Light": (link goes to uncensored version, censored version embedded below):

Its pretty strange, but with the period looks, is it referencing something in particular? (also, how hot is the actress in this vid's arse in those riding pants? Which speaking of, Old Navy commercials are cheesy as hell, but day-um those workout pants look awesome on those chicks. Of course, its nowhere near as hot as Eric Prydz' "Call On Me":

Anyways, given how much TV I watch, its no surprise that TV characters figure more into them than people I know in real life. I don't find it weird when its characters from DC, or the OC, or GG, or even NCIS (because I've watched a lot of NCIS on USA reruns). But last night's was Criminal Minds. I didn't think I watched that show enough for that to happen. (actually, it was like a Wednesday night TV crossover, because in addition to the BAU team, so was Fin from SVU) Even odder was that it didn't involve solving some grisly case or anything. But it did involve having to make out with JJ for some reason, to make some former classmate of her's jealous.

HIMYM- So I had heard they were finally gonna reveal the slutty pumpkin chick this season. Which some are pissed about, because why now, if she's not the mother? Eh, I can roll with it. But today they leaked who they cast to play her! You have to live under a rock to not have heard it, but I'll add a spoiler cut, just in case. So the slutty pumpkin is... )

Gossip Girl- In addition to the above HIMYM spoiler, heard some spoilers for Gossip Girl which are dashing my Dair-loving heart. a cut, but more for silly ranting than actual spoilers. )

Glee- An intro to the new characters:

As I've said before, I find Sugar kinda cute (and that ass!). And even her bad singing was kinda cute. Of course, one thing that baffles me are the comments about where is Sam? I understand I'm a big TV watching geek, so I know a lot of stuff the average viewer doesn't know. But there are times where I'm just incredulous at the questions people who purport to watch the show ask! Where's Sam?! They effin said it in the beginning of the ep! He moved! Did you even watch the episode?!

Also ridiculous? Those few people who hate Sugar because they found the whole Asperger's thing offensive. The show wasn't making fun of people who have Asperger's, it was making fun of all those people who claim they have Asperger's to explain away their awkwardness and try to sound all special and act like it gives them free reign to act like an a-hole. I'm sure people with actual Asperger's have a really hard time, and I do feel sorry for them. I just think there are people who claim they have Asperger's and its total BS! Honestly, if you're cognizant enough to self diagnose yourself with Asperger's, then you prolly don't have Asperger's.

Criminal Minds- Not bothering with a spoiler cut, because if you watch this show at all, you knew JJ back was back at the end of last season, and you can't not have heard that Prentiss was coming back this season. On the one hand, I'm glad they got the show back to normal. It was a huge misstep last season trying to get rid of them. Actually it seemed like they took back a lot of moves they made with the series last season. They canceled the spin-off, and brought back JJ and Prentiss after coming up with elaborate ways to write them off- JJ having to take a forced promotion and the whole Prentiss secret spy past and them faking her death.

But now things are back to the way they were. Which is good, but I do feel sorry for Rachel Nichols in all this. She never had a chance to be really accepted given the way the show unceremoniously tried to get rid of two beloved characters. And now that they're back, she got the boot. I still don't know what the hell the TPTB were thinking. It didn't seem like the show was hurting in the ratings that they need a shake up. Even if it was, that was a kinda dumb way to change things up. Its like, I know, lets get rid of the two hot chyx! If it ain't broke don't fix!

Speaking of shows I love, I've been catching old eps of the Creek recently. I think of my top favorite TV shows ever, its the only one on the list that I haven't seen every ep of? Which is ridiculous, because if you love a show, how can you not have seen every ep? That does not make cents! I stopped watching the beginning of 6th season, because I started to care less where they were going with everyone. Of course, that changed with the Castaways ep, and Pacey and Joey getting back together and sucking me back in. But yeah, most of the eps I was rewatching were the significant PJ ones (Cinderella Story, True Love, Castaways, the series finale), and after refreshing my memory on that, I have to say of all the pairings I've been a fan of, PJ (not Pam/Jim, though their another favorite of mine) has got to be my all time favorite. I mean, the chemistry between Katie Holmes and Joshua Jackson was phenomenal, and they have so many great lines, which I will not re-iterate here, since its already gay enough as it is that I have plenty of their convos memorized.

I used to have such a huge crush on her, it makes me sad for Katie Holmes that Tom Cruise turned her into his slave to birth some sort of Scientology Messiah or something. (Like their whole relationship hasn't seemed incredibly conspicuous from the start!) Though I'm not mad enough at him to not see Knight and Day, because it looks like something I might enjoy. (Hey, I liked the Mission Impossible movies, and Mr and Mrs. Smith, which this seems somewhat similar to)

Ah, it figures that since I deferred HIMYM and Chuck to online watchery the next day instead of live/off the dvr last night, it would be the best eps of the night (Well, I haven't seen MIoBI or Secret Life yet, but I think I can confidently say they're not gonna be as good)

So, I was having dinner with the roomie at Frontera, and we had just gotten our sopa when the power went out. The power eventually came on in time for our entrees to come out, but had it not, what is the protocol? We were just gonna get combos, but they were doing a special where you could get two combos including soup and desert for just $14.99, which was cheaper than the total our individual combos would've been. So even though we had gotten our soup, I assume if they couldn't give us the rest of it, the soup and drinks would have been on the house?

Oh, heh, I'm amused how this last ep of Glee started a whole bunch of people shipping Quinn/Puck. Though there are people who ship Rachel/Puck, and what's with people shipping people who are enemies who haven't had any scenes together at all that weren't totally antagonistic? I mean, I would be so giddy if Dan and Blair got together on Gossip Girl, but at least with them, they've had scenes where they've helped each other out. I don't think there's been a scene with Rachel and Puck together that wasn't just him tossing a slushie in her face. I'm all for opposites-attract pairings, but there has to be evidence of something under the antagonism! Like on DC, even 1st season, way before they even thought of having Pacey and Joey hook up, he would occasionally do nice things for her, like driving her to see her dad in prison.

But I digress, both pairings do have pretty good portmanteaus though, and you know how I'm amused by a good portmanteau- Quick and Rack. Ha! Its always better when you can make an actual word. Speaking of Quinn, is it me, or was she looking mad cute this past ep, particularly in that one scene where she giggles into her pom poms when the football team does the "All the Single Ladies" dance on the field?

Heh, so [livejournal.com profile] clevemire points me to the urban dictionary definition of the male lesbian, I assume to comment that I am one, particularly under the third definition of the term. And I can't fault him, because my immediate thought upon reading the example was, the various P/J scenes on DC that would fall under it. Which in turn made me think of my top 5 Pacey/Joey moments (in no particular order) of the series:

under a cut for extreme gayness! )

Owel, TGIF! Just need to get through the work day, do laundry, and pack my bags up, and I'll be ready to go NYC.
