Why the hell did Jose Canseco get into an MMA fight with a 7'2" Korean guy?! I hear the Korean dude, Hong Man Choi, in addition to being a MMA fighter is a rapper with some Korean supermodel chick and they're called Beauty and the Beast?

What's up with combos at fast food joints nowadays? Like what used to be normal size is "small", which I'm guessing is to trick people who are all, "I don't want a small soda and fries" because they're thinking its small, so they front the extra cost for "medium", which is really the large. I don't know if that deserves a bbv('This is total BS!') or a cliffV('What's up with that?!')

Watching Reaper, they had commercials for some of the new upcoming shows. Now, will they actually try to connect the new Melrose to the new 90210? I mean, the new 90210 is already established as part of that universe. But will they just establish a link to the old Melrose Place, or will they have some of their characters guest on the new 90210 first like with the original 90210 and Melrose Place? And then there's that "Vampire Diaries" show, which with the popularity of Twilight, I guess one of these channels had to capitalize on that. But hey, I totally forgot Nina Dobrev was on this until the commerical reminded me. I always thought she was pretty cute. But that's the second show on the CW starring a Degrassi: TNG alum.

But onto Reaper. I'm actually kinda annoyed that's how the series is ending. spoiler cut )

Almost caught up on Walking Dead. I just realized that oddly enough, their best fighters are girls. I mean, Andrea's their best sharpshooter, and Michonne's like this ninja chick with her katana. (Yeah, Tyrese is an ex-Football player and pretty good with a hammer, but he can't shoot worth a damn, and Michonne's skill at melee is a whole other level above him) Though they never explain how the latter is so bad-ass. I mean, she's all she studied fencing in college, though she uses a katana, and her style isn't really fencing given it involves a lot of large cuts and slashes rather than thrusts and parries. And that doesn't explain her stealthiness. But also a weird coincidence, Michonne's an ex-lawyer, and Andrea also worked at a law firm.

TV Commentary:

Glee- Good thing I didn't trust Fox, because after having one of the Fringe recordings getting cut off because AI ran long a few weeks ago, I realized I needed to add a few minutes just in case. And it did! How great of Fox to promote this show pretty heavily, but then still let AI run long so people who DVRed it got their recordings cut off!

Anyways, this was totally awesome. You know, they tout Ryan Murphy as the Nip/Tuck guy, I had no idea he was also behind Popular. The show has elements of the latter, but with more music. In any case, there was a lot I liked about this. The musical numbers were great, and I'm amused how the background music is mostly glee versions of famous songs.

They're obviously pushing Rachel/Finn and Will/Emma as the main ships, though it is odd how they're basically just parallels of each other- noth are guys stuck in dead end relationships with a couple of manipulative bitches. Well, Will is, we haven't seen enough of cheerleader girl, though Will's wife was head cheerleader in high school, and they reference Will being the "golden boy" back in high school, just like Finn seems to be. Rachel's pursuit of Finn is quite cute and earnest, it could've easily come off as overbearing and annoying.

But since a glee club is an ensemble, hopefully we'll learn more about the rest of the kids, rather than them being relegated to one sided caricatures. And what was with all the Heroes secondary characters in this- Will's wife is Meredith (though she's in everything, including Nip/Tuck), Emma is Charlie, the previous Glee club dude was Bob, and Finn's cheerleader girlfriend was Claire's cheerleader nemesis. Well, the second one, not the one from her original high school.

I'll definitely catch this next fall, and I can't wait for the soundtrack to come out. From the previews, it looks like they're gonna do a couple more fun songs. But "Don't Stop Believin" and "Rehab" are already up on itunes.

SVU- Okay, this was one of the more ridiculous eps of this show ever. I mean, some stalker ex-bf dude sets up Sprague Grayden to get raped by Haywire, and when they catch him and bring him to trial with Charles Widimore as judge, they eventually figure out he's Widimore's long lost son who everyone thought was killed by this serial rapist-killer from the 70s? It does not make sense, and "hanging a lampshade" on it still doesn't make it easier to swallow.

Reaper- I'm guessing this show won't be renewed for next year? I mean, the way the season finale seems to be being set up for next week, it looks like everything is in place to be a series finale. spoiler cut )

My sidekick lx 2009 came via UPS yesterday. Since it can do the higher capacity microSD cards, I got an 8 gig one the other day (what's up with it costing less than the 4 gig card for my previous SK?!) and uploaded my music. I was pleasantly surprised it only took 20 minutes to do that, when it used to take a couple of hours. Of course, now I have to make sure all my music matches across it and my nano, because I'm OC like that. 3G is noticably faster, and youtube works well on it. I accidentally left GPS on, and its definitely a battery hog. Since it just came out though, applications are lacking, so I'm without time traveler and terminal and tetris. Hopefully the first two come soon. I remember when I had the 3, terminal didn't come out for a couple of months.

Heh, reading Ain't It Cool today, I was amused how Harry Knowles looked like a durned fool complaining about one of the Wolverine promos, the one about Emma Frost (there's also one for william Stryker, the the Blob, John Wraith, Deadpool, Sabretooth, Gambit, Wolverine, and a general one featuring many of the main mutant characters. BTW, I didn't realize the blob was played by Keamy from Lost in a fat-suit). No, the complaint wasn't about how Emma Frost was supposed to be hotter, he was baffled that she was this glowing disco ball chick. Apparently, he didn't know of her secondary diamond mutation. How can one be a self professed uber geek (and to me that means all the geekiness categories, from comics to video games to rpgs to fantasy/sci fi among other things) and not know that?! It should be common knowledge to any comic book geek!

And I don't think "Oh, I only read X-men during so and so's run" or I stopped reading in the 90s is a valid excuse. Well, if one's knowledge is lacking, then I think one shouldn't claim to be a comic book geek. Or at the very least, if you're gonna make a living writing about such things, do some friggin' research first so you don't end up looking like an idiot!

90210- is it lame that when Annie and Dixon were thinking of road trip music, and Annie wanted to listen to "Rent", and Dixon "The Beastie Boys", I woulda gone with the former? And is it ridiculous to have both the movie soundtrack and the original broadway cast recording? I mean, some of the songs slightly differ, and obviously there's a different Mimi and Joanne. Oh and this show can be so cliche and lame sometimes, I'm surprised they didn't have Donna make a reference/joke about David killing robots or time traveling. spoiler cut )

Fringe- See, between this past week's House and Fringe (and the Dollhouse a couple of weeks ago), it just reinforces my annoyance with these young, idealist student activist types. (Or at least the TV-version of such people). Like who actually breaks into labs to free the animals? That's how zombie (okay, Rage-infections) outbreaks happen!

But I was also reminded when I read last week's TWoP recap about Peter mentioning Roadblock and how he wasn't "one of your top-tier" G.I.Joes! What the hell is he talking about?! I would bet he's definitely top 5 on a list of Joes people who are even only passingly familar with G.I.Joe can name! Its always been him, Duke, Scarlett, and Snake Eyes who were the most popular. Its the main archetypes! Roadblock (though I guess a whole new generation of kids know him as Heavy Duty, as I explained in a previous post) is the big strong black guy, Duke's the corny whitebread Mr. All American Hero, Scarlett's the hot chick, and Snake Eyes is the silent bad-ass.

Their error this week? Confusing .50 AE and .50 BMG rounds. Yeah, there are .50 cal incendiary rounds used by heavy machine guns and sniper rifles chambered for .50 BMG, but not in .50 AE which is a pistol round used by handguns like the Desert Eagle (though I guess there are some conversions of the M4 carbine that are chambered for it, and that would be hard hitting, but not .50 cal incendiary round hard-hitting), which is what they ended up using for hunting. spoiler cut )

What the frick, have I shifted realities again and ended up in Bizarro world?! So my aunt in the Philippines somehow got a hold of my number and calls me up out of the blue! (I guess the parentals gave it to her, though it doesn't seem like them to do so, but who else could have given it?) Anyhoo, remember how I said she was trying to fix me up with that beauty pageant winner chick? Since no one mentioned anything about it again, I thought that was over and done with! Apparently not!

So I take the call, and wonder if they're trying to hit me up for money or something again. But no, the girl is apparently in the States currently, visting some relatives in Florida. I'm like okay, what does this have to do with me? Well, apparently they're getting her to fly up to Atlanta this weekend and meet me. Its like okay, thanks for just telling me now! And apparently (I sure am using that word a lot this post) its not like she has a lot of money, so even though someone (her family? it couldn't be my relatives) was able to spring for a round trip ticket from Orlando to Atlanta, she doesn't have a place to stay. So I'm supposed to entertain some 20 year old hottie who my foreign relatives are trying to fix me up with for some reason over the weekend (I'm a boring loser, and Atlanta isn't exactly the entertainment capital of the world!) I'm supposed to put her up too? I'm sure the roomie will be thrilled with that!

And that's not even the end of the craziness! That dream last night might have been prophetic. (or one could argue, since its the product of the subconscious, I was taking stuff from real life and subconsciously analyzing them and the dreams represent my thoughts on the matter). Anyhoo, I made an obtuse post a few weeks ago, I think only one person would get because they were the only one privy to all the pertinent information. But anyways, I reconnected with an old friend from HS. She was the girl I thought might've had a thing for me but I was too chicken to find out. So we'd been conversing through e-mail, and I tried to subtly probe to see if I wasn't imagining things back then. I thought I got my answer (I was) so the comment was about that.

Its like, okay, whatever, a little embarassing, and kinda a blow to my ego, but what can you do? But we'd still been writing back and forth after that. Now, I hadn't actually outright asked her how she felt back then, I just figured from my what I see now were pretty obtuse questions that she didn't feel that way about me back in HS. Mebbe they were too obtuse, or I'm just a moron, but I was apparently (there's that word again!) off. Recently, we were reminiscing about prom, and she admitted she thought I was "kinda cute" (really?!) back then and woulda gone with me had I asked. Okay, I guess that's a far cry from her having had a thing for me. But her e-mails do seem a little more flirty lately (or is that my imagination again repeating itself after 15 years?). Well, that and complaining about her life and her job and her husband. So I'm like totally freaking out. She's married, with a kid! What if her husband see this? Now, having watched too much TV and movies, my minds going into overdrive with that dozens and dozens of different (and mostly implausible) scenarios.

How did I go from having no play, to getting fixed up with a foreign cutie and possibly getting into a ccv('Inappropriate!') situation with a married chick. This is crazy, and I'm not sure what to do about either. Well I have some ideas, but this entry is already getting long, and I haven't even gotten to TV commentary yet, so I'll spare y'all with a cut. cut for your benefit )

So Bruce Willis married some hot model over the weekend. Now she and Ashton are the same age, so given Bruce is seven years older than Demi, the age difference is bigger. But for some reason it doesn't seem that the media is making it out to be as scandalous. Is it because he married her when she was in her 30s, whereas Demi started going out with Ashton when he was in his 20s and still a teen star? Or is it that double standard?

Actually its weird, because it kinda flips once depending on which side of the legal age limit you're on. Like the whole teacher messing with a student thing- when its a chick teacher involved with a male student people aren't as vehement at the teacher as they would be if it were a male teacher taking advantage of a female student. And I just caught myself doing the double standard- even though both cases an older person is taking advantage of a younger one, I only referred to it as "taking advantage" with the guy being the older one and said the older gal and boy were "messing around". And even though the two teachers did the same thing, the male one is way more vilified. But once everyone's all legal, the whole cougar thing is a phase, just some lady getting her rocks off, its usually not a relationship of substance or consequence. But its socially accepted for an old man to marry a chick 50 years his junior. But even then, the young man is prolly congratulated as a stud, he's just having fun, while the chick would prolly be called a gold digger, and the only reason she could be doing a guy that many years older than her is because she wants something.

Cool, IGN has a preview up of the new GIJoe game. The graphics don't look phenomenal, but they're not too bad. So it looks like the playable characters they have so far are Duke (the movie one, in the "accelerator" suit", which makes him look out of place compared to the rest of them), Snake-Eyes (because you can't have a Joe game without their resident bad-ass commando/ninja), Gung-Ho (the ragin' Cajun marine), and Heavy Duty. Those who grew up with the Joes in the 80s and 90s would know him as Roadblock. Actually, its confusing, because there is a character from back then also called Heavy Duty, and they made them cousins. But Roadblock is of course the huge black guy/heavy machine gunner who spoke in rhyme in the cartoon, who's whole schtick was he was a good cook, but couldn't afford to go to a fancy cooking school, so he was working as a bouncer to get the money when an army recruiter was all, "The army can teach you to cook as well as any fancy French cooking school!" And for some reason, he believed them. Heavy Duty on the other hand, while also a huge black guy, was an anti-armor specialist as well was a guitarist and classical pianist. He was extremely well coordinated, and his weapon was this ridiculous double cannon/missile launcher set up which with his coordination and rhythm, allowed him to conduct a symphony of explosive death. (Why do I know so much about inconsequential fictional characters?!) Now, apparently "Roadblock" is trademarked now, so they can no longer use the name, but they can use Heavy Duty. And Roadblock is the one more fans like, so they just shunted the codename to him. The new IDW reboot series seems to be doing that as well, or so I hear.

Anyways, onto the game. I like the new updated S.N.A.K.E, but the new B.A.T. looks kinda generic. As I mentioned before, they chose the movie look for Duke, and Roadblock/Heavy Duty seems to be a hybrid of traditional and movie, given he has the "Jax" looking arms. He's also wielding a gatling gun instead of his traditional M2 .50 cal, but gatlings do look cooler. Snake-Eyes looks mostly like his 2nd figure look, with the knight visor. I actually think Gung Ho looks the closest to his original look, except he's not running around bare chested with the open vest to show off the giant Marine Corps tattoo on his chest, he's got a shirt on with the vest closed so its actually providing protection, But his traditional weapon was also updated. He's a grenadier, so back in the 80s, he carried around the old M-79. But now that its the oughts, he's updated to the M-32 MGL. Which makes sense, because why carry around a break open single shot grenade launcher, when you can use a 6 shot revolver type weapon and really send a world of hurt down range in a matter of seconds. Plus, the MGL can utilize special heavier rounds.

So while Mercenaries mode in RE5 doesn't have Hunk and his neckbreaker, it looks like they greatly expanded the number of melee moves the character have. So what they do after an enemy is stunned depends on the context. And while it doesn't have the cool, smooth transition of Hunk's neckbreaker, the other characters have similar moves if they come up behind a stunned enemy. Chris will do a similar kinda neck break, Sheva does a throat slit, and Jill hops on their shoulders and does a neck break with her knees similar to Sophitia's B+G throw in Soul Calibur. And interesting, Wesker seems to have a hidden melee, where he runs and hits them with a flying knee like he thinks he's Tony Jaa.

The roomie beat GTA IV last night. Given the way the final arc for ending 1 plays out, I'm amused that it's considered the "good" ending. GTA IV seemed to be completed much faster than any of the previous games, but I'm wondering if that's because of the addition of the auto save after missions and the taxi cab thing. The auto save is something they should have always had, given how frustrating it could be completing a mission and dying on the way to your friggin safehouse to save. Its like you were always tense and driving real slow so you didn't accidentally bump a cop or get into a really bad wreck until you got to save.

But yeah, the taxi thing seems to cut down on distractions. Instead of driving to a person to get a mission, and possibly getting distracted by some cool jump you see, or accidentally bumping into a cop car and leading to a chase throughout the city, you just get into a taxi and automagically get there, and if its not a mission requiring you to use a specific car, you take a taxi to the mission start. So you can basically hammer a whole bunch of missions out without having to deal with all the time spent driving except for that required by the mission itself.

And is it me, or did they increase the size of the trucks? I mean, vehicles like the Enforcer look frickin' ginormous when compared to the normal cars!

Finally got to see GTA IV in action after I got home from work. The graphics are definitely improved. And there's definitely a new physics engine. And the cars seem to handle differently (more realistically?). And they did improve the combat system, especially with the addition of a cover system.

In any case, while they didn't make an exact recreation of NYC, its freaky how in the vein of the different areas of NYC it is. I've only seen Liberty City's version of Queens, but the places are very familiar seeming. Like this one time the roomie was driving around and I could see their version of the Silvercup Studios (here called "Silverback") building nearby. I joked that he's almost near my old neighborhood, and as he drove on, started seeing the old warehouse buildings in that area between the parent's house and the Costco, and sure enough the area came up as "East Island City" which I assume is a play on "Long Island City".

But as he drove further, he started driving down a spitting image of that street that goes around Astoria Park. But yeah, there's also this long stretch that looks exactly like Northern Boulevard, and their analogue to Flushing/Fresh Meadows ("Meadow Hills") is a pretty reasonable facsimile with the giant globe and the world's fair circle tower thingies. So its definitely a good recreation of NYC.

Its like out of a scene from SVU or one of those other crime procedurals, were they find the girl was putting naughty things up on the internet shortly before she went missing. Heh, though some of the creepiness might be because a crime procedural came on the TV in the background, and the creepy music from it synched up with the "sex offender about to attack and kill his victim" vibe there at the end.

- Another video, which is also creepy but in a different way, a bunch of different re-enactments of some obscure Full House scene where DJ gets mad at Uncle Joey and being all "You're not my father!". I don't get it!

- Not a creepy video, a youtube chick doing an acoustic version of Nickelback's "Savin' Me". Hey, I think its a hard song to do, so kudos to her. You don't want to hear me trying to sing the song.

- At dinner, the roomie expressed disbelief that I don't read the webcomic Questionable Content, as it seems like that kinda emo/romantic comedy/young adult drama stuff that's right up my alley. So, started reading through those.

- I posted about Dead Fantasy II the other day:

And woah, has Lethal Weapon always been kinda homophobic? I mean, there's the scene when the house blows up, and Riggs' jacket catches fire, and Murtagh tries to pat it out, and Riggs is all, "What are you, a fag?"
