Better Call Saul- So obviously this show is supposed to be about Jimmy's journey to becoming Saul Goodman. But it also seems to be showing us how Mike became who he is. Which is fine, though it does make for some weird narrative. spoiler cut )

TV commentary:

Vampire Diaries- Holy frick, Nina Dobrev is leaving at the end of the season?! Aw man, hopefully she has some other projects lined up, because it will be disappointing to not have her grace my TV screen anymore. But ha, so does that mean the show really will go the Bamon and Steroline routes? You got to admit, that's kinda hilarious, the show started on the love triangle between Elena and the Salvatore brothers, and since the show is going on without her, that means she's ending up with neither.

Better Call Saul- Wow, this was kinda a depressing ep. spoiler cut )

So, flicking through the channels at dinner, watched the last Twilight movie. Which is a little ridiculous since I've only seen parts of the 1st and 3rd. But I knew enough about the story to get the gist. The one thing I'd always wondered from seeing the bits and pieces I did was how vampires worked.

From the looks of it, none of the traditional vampire lore applied here, I mean they freaking sparkled in the sunlight instead of being immolated. But yeah, the end of the third one was combat heavy, and I was wondering when they were fighting why it seemed like they were decapitating enemy vampires and there was a weird stone shattering sound whenever they did. And I was all, wait, are they like really fragile that that's all it take to kill them?

So, I finally looked it up to figure out how the hell you kill vampire in that universe. So, it turns out only fire harms them. But given their super speed, its not too hard for them to put themselves out. Which is why someone trying to kill them usually decapitates and dismembers them first. That way they're helpless to the flame. And the reason for all the stone shattering noise is because when people turn, they literally are frozen in the state they were when they turned. Their bodies become like organic stone, making them practically animated statues.

Oh, but I guess dropping into lava will also kill them almost immediately, presuming they're dropped right in the middle of a pool, because its very difficult from them to flee before they die. And there's the implication that a nuke (or presumably a high enough yield bomb) will also kill them instantly because they can't outrun the blast before they're immolated.

Oh, and heh, now I finally know where that one gif I'd seen going around with Dakota Fanning throwing a toddler into a bonfire comes from. I mean, I guess I didn't recognize the girl in the gif as Dakota Fanning, or I should've realized it was from the Twilight movies.

Hey, its something non-TV related! Over the weekend, drove up to Hunstville with the usual suspects for C-Notes wedding. The drive was a little ominous at times, particularly when we drove through the Appalachian hills, because of the fog in the morning. Its like you look over the edge of the road and its nothing but fog, but you know there's a drop.

It was a short and sweet ceremony, albeit in Korean. The reception was interesting, there was a Korean drum line (squad? not sure what you call it) On the ride to and from the wedding, since the mini-van we rented had a DVD player, J had chosen Rounders, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, and Ronin. Apparently some of them had only seen Kiss Kiss Bang Bang once (and [livejournal.com profile] phatjoe had never seen it!) I volunteered to sit shotgun since I saw those movies already and it would be weird for K to be driving with no one in the front passenger side seat and everyone in the back. But since I'd seen the latter two movies a jillion times, I knew mostly what was happening from the audio, so I could picture it in my head. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is still one of my all time favorite movies.

Had dinner at Sam's BBQ1. Hadn't been since they added the seated area. I didn't know they started offering onion petals as a side. But it was pretty good. Heh, played both iterations of the DC card game on Friday and Saturday, and got extremely lucky, trouncing everyone so bad that I think J and K were pissed. Jervis Tetch and the Mad Hatter Hat are kinda a BS combo. And its was ridiculous that on the same round I got the hat, I played a card that let me gain the top card of the deck, and it was Jervis Tetch.
