TV commentary:

One Day at a Time- Now that I've seen a few more eps, I agree with critics, this is a pretty good show. It manages to suffuse the prosaic family sitcom style with modern sensibility. Heh, I will say, while it does seem to tend more towards a latin family experience, since I'm Filipino, there are some aspects I can empathize with. spoiler cut )

Bunheads- So six episodes in, I will say Sasha has similar physical attributes to Rory, but her personality seems closer to Paris. I guess I haven't seen enough interaction between Sasha and Michelle yet to see any commonality with Lorelai/Rory (I hear it does though), but Michelle/Fanny is very Lorelai/Emily. Seriously, if I close my eyes I can hardly tell the difference.

The over-arching plots are moving slower than I expected (like I'm totally surprised its taken this long for Michelle to start teaching), which is sad since the show was canceled after the first season so there's only the 18 eps.

It is kinda sad/surprising it didn't get renewed, because it was a quality show. Of course, I'm kinda split on its fate- I think it deserved more seasons, but if it didn't get canceled, Ginny wouldn't have been free to be Lauren on Faking It, and she was one of the best parts of that show. (Speaking of Faking It, is it me, or does Sasha look a lot like a raven haired Amy Raudenfeld?)

Faking It- I'm still frustrated this show abruptly ended before it has a chance to explore Karmy, but I guess this was a decent ending. spoiler cut )

TV commentary:

Faking It- G-D it, MTV cancelled this. I mean, with the numbers they were pulling its not a surprise, but it pissed me off because now we'll never get a resolution to the Karmy stuff. I was worried this was going to happen, the show was hemorrhaging viewers who were tired of nothing happening on the Karmy front. And the creator was all, eventually, but just as I suspected, they never would get to "eventually" since they were pulling dismal numbers.

I was hoping they'd have some warning about being cancelled, so they'd have time to get to a decent ending. But apparently next week is the finale?! And its ending on a cliffhanger?! bbv('This is total BS!')

The Originals- At least Vincent is spreading the hatred around. spoiler cut )

Faking It- Ah, this show can be so frustrating! Like they do just enough to keep you on the hook that Karmy might happen. And I'm just too invested to not see it through. spoiler cut )

Flash- Heh, so no real movement this week. spoiler cut )

Faking It- Well, that seems like an ill-advised storyline. spoiler cut )

TV commentary:

Watching Faking It as I type this up, and in the first five minutes Karma's lusting over Liam again, and Amy is considering dating Felix. Wow, does this show know its audience! Yeah, people are definitely tuning in to watch the two of them hook up with boys. What the frick!

Flash- Well, that was unexpected! spoiler cut )

Agents of SHIELD- So that was also unexpected. spoiler cut )

Faking It- As I said above, I swear this show does not know its audience at all. spoiler cut )

TV commentary:

iZombie- You know, sometimes I forget this is a Rob Thomas show (even though it has all his hallmarks and a shared cast), which in turn makes me forget my favorite part of his shows, the consistent recurring cast. Like I said with Veronica Mars, it makes the universe seem real when they run into the same people again, instead of having totally different people whom we never see again.

Of course, it was easier to remember in VM, particularly the first two seasons, since it was HS, so its easy to see the recurring characters because many of them are classmates of Veronica. But here, like these past few eps, I'm totally missing people have been on this show before until they point it out. Like this ep, I didn't realize frat boy was from a previous ep until he recognized Liv. spoiler cut )

Faking It- You know, since I first saw Mckaley Miller on Hart of Dixie where she was just a kid, it totally weirds me out that she's apparently a love interest for Liam. I mean, that show started five years ago, so I guess age wise, it actually matches, but it still seems like he's too old for her. spoiler cut )

iZombie- Hmm, some pretty good developments here. spoiler cut )

Its been a hectic week, so I haven't been behind on show commentary, but here's everything I gots to say:

TV commentary:

The Fosters- Red flag, Callie! spoiler cut )

The Magicians- Wait, are they implying what I think they are? That's pretty effed up! spoiler cut )

NCIS- Hey, Samantha Logan as Taye Digg's daughter, cool, she's cute, always nice to see her in stuff since she's apparently disappeared from the Fosters and they killed her off on Teen Wolf. But heh, interesting, so I didn't know Taye Diggs was a Broadway person until well into his career. I mean, I've known for more than a decade now, but I first saw him in stuff like Way of the Gun and Equilibrium and the trailer for How Stella Got her Groove Back before I found out he was in Rent. But yeah, even though he has a musical background, he's definitely had a pretty good career beyond that. That being said though, it seems they purposely got him because they wanted him to sing at the end, which is a little weird to me. But cool, singing Marine Sniper.

Faking It- Weird, is Lisbeth gone because of Scream Queens? But they killed her off on that. spoiler cut )

Rizzoli and Isles- stv('How Rude!') spoiler cut )

Criminal Minds- Are you kidding me, this show, too. spoiler cut )

The Americans- Heh, that's so weird. spoiler cut )

There is way too much TV on Monday and Tuesday currently.

TV commentary:

Faking It- So the last half of the season had actually leaked online, but I was good and watched it on TV. That means I was spoiled for some things, but there were some surprises here. spoiler cut )

Flash- its funny how the Earth-2 people are also referring to their Earth as Earth-2. Like there hasn't been an argument like that one ep of Futurama. spoiler cut )

iZombie- Hmm, some interesting tidbits. spoiler cut )

Agents of SHIELD- Okay, that was a surprise. spoiler cut )

TV commentary:

Gotham- Interesting. spoiler cut )

Faking It- Funny, given my comments on last week's Finding Carter. spoiler cut )

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend- Its unfortunate this show isn't do so well. Or at least I assume it isn't. I mean, the rating for the premiere weren't so hot. And like I don't see anything in the tumblr tags, which isn't a true gauge of a show's popularity, though for a show like this, who's audience is more likely a tumblr user than not, its not promising that people don't comment or make gif sets or what have you.

I mean, its not the best new show of the season, but its amusing enough. Like, the musical numbers could be better. But I just mostly see complaints for people who haven't even seen the show angry at the premise. It makes them think Felicity, and a girl with a promising future giving it up to follow some guy to NY. (Heh, actually, I guess its the opposite, with a girl following some dude to Cali from NYC). Not that Felicity was a bad show, but I do think its a premise that people find problematic. But I digress. So they think its same old, same old, that happiness is some dude.

Which I don't think is the case at all. I mean, Rebecca is kidding herself if she thinks she didn't go to West Covina for Josh, but I don't think there's any sacrifice here. Rebecca was post-law school having graduated Harvard and Yale, about to be named partner in her firm. So yes, its kinda crazy of her to turn that down, because that's serious $$$. But honestly, it seems like its not something she really cares about.

And while West Covina is pretty much podunk compared to NYC, its not like she's throwing her education away. She's still a lawyer, but its not like there are really any negative consequences other than it not being as fancy as NY. I mean, she's obviously making less money, but if that's affecting anything, the show isn't showing it. She seems to be fine financially. Nor is she really having any job problems- she's a freaking rock star lawyer. Like even with all her shenanigans, and seemingly blowing off work to do said shenanigans, its not affecting her ability at all. Like I was thinking because she never seems to be doing work, she'd get in trouble and screw something up. But apparently lawyering is effortless to her. I mean, I'm sure part of it is being in podunk, but still.

I think overall, even though she can apparently lawyer in her sleep, it wasn't a fulfilling existence for her. So I don't think the show is having her sacrifice for Josh. It was pretty clear she was not happy at all (they gloss over her having been taken a bunch of anti-depressants), and for some reason the weird signs in the pilot made her think maybe being with Josh would change things because its the last time she remembers being happy. So I think its clear that she has deep seated issues, and that Josh isn't the solution, its just a symptom.

I think I mentioned hearing about the "Cruel Intentions: Unofficial Musical Parody" with Karma from Faking It as Kathryn? Although apparently she alternates the role with Lindsay Pearce from the Glee Project, and apparently Mona from PLL takes over the role for a week pretty soon. I guess Cecile is being played by Ashley from Pitch Perfect? That's cool too.

Interesting, Lindsay and Janel were also both in the Spring Awakening Revival, so do musicals in LA actually star people I recognize from TV? Like when NPH did Rent at the Hollywood Bowl, it had Aaron Tevit as Roger and Vanessa Hudgens as Mimi, Skylar Astin as Mark, Nicole Scherzinger as Maureen, Tracie Thoms reprising the Joanne role (at least the movie version), Wayne Brady as Tom Collins and Telly Leung (Asian Warbler Wes on Glee).

But I digress, apparently the CI musical soundtrack is a mix of some songs from the original soundtrack, like "Every You Every Me" by Placebo and the Verve's "Bittersweet Symphony" as well as the Cardigans song from the scene in the pool house, and Six Pence None the Richer's version of "Kiss Me". Which dang, I wish shows like this would be in a town I live, or at least one I regularly visit, like NYC.

Heh, you know, people talk about what they would do if they had a ton of money. Like I have no interest in traveling the world, but it would be cool to just hop on a plane any time to like fly to LA or NYC to see some musical that piques my interest.
