Bunheads- So, I've finally finished this. Overall, it was a good run, I'm kinda disappointed it was canceled. Of course, I didn't watch it the first time around, so I can only blame myself. At least it didn't end with any big cliffhangers. I mean, they did set up somethings for the next season if there was going to be one. But there's nothing that was all, "G-D, this was unresolved!" Mostly, it was sad that we don't get more with these characters. In particular, Michelle and the girls were pretty talented. While I prefer song to dance, the dance numbers on the show were always pretty good. (Also, I'm amused Brad the piano player from Glee was also the piano player in this)

So I finished One Day at a Time the other day, and almost done with Bunheads. Then I can get to Sweet/Vicious and a Series of Unfortunate Events, though I guess the new season of Voltron starts this Friday. Of course, that's on top of all the usual stuff I watch.

Heh, it always amuses me when people say, "Oh, I watch a lot of TV!" I watch a lot of TV, as evidenced by this blog. Its like, if you say things like, "Oh man, I'm still behind on show X, I haven't even started this season!" or "Show Y, what's that like?", then you're a tourist.

TV commentary:

Bunheads- So this show really goes hardcore into re-using GG actors. I mean, sometimes they flip things around, with Mitchum Huntzberger playing a surfer dude, which was weird, but Paris is basically playing Paris. Or rather grown up GG:AYitL Paris. But an even meaner and bitchier version. Or perhaps the way Paris would have ended up if she didn't have Rory to ground her?

But yeah, since Emily and Paris didn't get to interact too much in GG, this show gave a glimpse of what it would be like if Emily and Paris went into business together.

TV commentary:

Bunheads- You know, when I said the Fanny/Michelle dynamic was totally reminiscent of Emily/Lorelai, I forgot that while that was fun at times, it was incredibly frustrating at others because Emily and Lorelai can be incredibly stubborn and passive aggressive. Also, now that I've seen Michelle and Sasha interact more, I am starting to see the similarities between Sasha and Rory. Its just that Sasha is kinda... meaner at times? At the very least way more broody. Like Rory was a little broody at times during the show's run. But most of the time, she was a Disney princess. Though Sasha, with her big blue eyes could look like a Disney princess, but one that would totally cut your throat while smiling that wide smile of hers if you crossed her.

Although speaking of, since Sasha played Sandee in the Gilmore Girls revival on netflix, I just want to comment on the whole Sandee Says situation. Yes, Rory was a bit insufferable at times in AYitL, but I disagree with the criticism by some viewers that Rory was acting like an entitled brat when it turns out Sandee was just offering Rory an interview not an actual position. To be fair, Sandee's hardcore chasing of Rory for the website did seem like Rory had a job if she wanted it.

But I digress, just finished up the mid-season finale of the show. spoiler cut )

TV commentary:

Bunheads- Heh, so there was a familiarity to Michelle's voice that I chalked up to similarity in mannerisms/dialogue to Lorelai, but then [livejournal.com profile] clevemire passed by and said she sounds like Sweet Dee and now I can't unhear it. spoiler cut )

TV commentary:

One Day at a Time- Now that I've seen a few more eps, I agree with critics, this is a pretty good show. It manages to suffuse the prosaic family sitcom style with modern sensibility. Heh, I will say, while it does seem to tend more towards a latin family experience, since I'm Filipino, there are some aspects I can empathize with. spoiler cut )

Bunheads- So six episodes in, I will say Sasha has similar physical attributes to Rory, but her personality seems closer to Paris. I guess I haven't seen enough interaction between Sasha and Michelle yet to see any commonality with Lorelai/Rory (I hear it does though), but Michelle/Fanny is very Lorelai/Emily. Seriously, if I close my eyes I can hardly tell the difference.

The over-arching plots are moving slower than I expected (like I'm totally surprised its taken this long for Michelle to start teaching), which is sad since the show was canceled after the first season so there's only the 18 eps.

It is kinda sad/surprising it didn't get renewed, because it was a quality show. Of course, I'm kinda split on its fate- I think it deserved more seasons, but if it didn't get canceled, Ginny wouldn't have been free to be Lauren on Faking It, and she was one of the best parts of that show. (Speaking of Faking It, is it me, or does Sasha look a lot like a raven haired Amy Raudenfeld?)

Bunheads- So, now that I've seen the pilot all the way through, I can make some more in-depth commentary. spoiler cut )

TV commentary:

Bunheads- So, decided to finally check this show out. Luckily all the eps are up for free on Freeform's website. Anyways, didn't know much about this show other than it was done by Amy Sherman Palladino. Which is evident from the fact that Michelle is basically Lorelai. I mean, the dialogue and mannerisms are uncanny. And Emily is playing Emily. Haven't seen enough to determine which of the girls is Rory though.

But yeah, random browsing yesterday showed me the show had random dance numbers (which are nowhere near as good as random musical numbers, but the cast is pretty talented in that regard) which piqued my interest. But then I heard about the twist at the end of the pilot which had me sold.

Agents of SHIELD- What a twist! spoiler cut )
