So I finished One Day at a Time the other day, and almost done with Bunheads. Then I can get to Sweet/Vicious and a Series of Unfortunate Events, though I guess the new season of Voltron starts this Friday. Of course, that's on top of all the usual stuff I watch.

Heh, it always amuses me when people say, "Oh, I watch a lot of TV!" I watch a lot of TV, as evidenced by this blog. Its like, if you say things like, "Oh man, I'm still behind on show X, I haven't even started this season!" or "Show Y, what's that like?", then you're a tourist.

TV commentary:

Bunheads- So this show really goes hardcore into re-using GG actors. I mean, sometimes they flip things around, with Mitchum Huntzberger playing a surfer dude, which was weird, but Paris is basically playing Paris. Or rather grown up GG:AYitL Paris. But an even meaner and bitchier version. Or perhaps the way Paris would have ended up if she didn't have Rory to ground her?

But yeah, since Emily and Paris didn't get to interact too much in GG, this show gave a glimpse of what it would be like if Emily and Paris went into business together.

So Paris plays Truly's sister, Millie, whom Truly stole Hubbell away from. She's rich, and a ruthless business woman, who thinks being able to throw money around lets her treat people like shit. Anyways, Fanny and Michelle's accountant warns them the their books are terrible, and they need to bring in money since Fanny doesn't charge half the girls and they don't make enough money on their shows (especially with the fiasco where Michelle accidentally maced the students), and they sometimes close the studio on a whim because they've had a bad day. He tells them they have all this land they're not using, so they get the idea to build an amphitheater on it, so that way they don't have to go somewhere else to hold their shows.

Of course, the accountant poo-poos that plan since they don't have money to build an amphitheater. But then Michelle mentions it at the bar one day, and Millie overhears, and despite Truly's warnings, Michelle gets roped into letting Millie be the backer. Which works fine at first, and Fanny is over the moon since she can talk Millie into paying for all sorts of excesses. But then it backfires, because Millie read some playbills and all of a sudden thinks because she's the one paying for things, she should have a say in the performances.

Fanny is of course livid, because that's not the way art works. And like I said, it kinda gives you and idea of what it would be like if Paris and Emily went head to head. Eventually, Fanny figures out that Millie would rather be known as a brilliant patron of the arts rather than an actual patron of the arts, because studying up on all that music and dance is too time consuming. So they make a deal where Fanny will just make it sound like Millie knows art and then Millie will no longer interfere.

The Sasha stuff is baffling, and I'm wondering if this show had a second season, if they'd go more into her family stuff. I mean, obviously her parents are self-involved a-holes, and Michelle becomes the mother she's always craved. But I'm just confused about the whole logistics of it all. So Sasha's dad finally decides to leave them for his bf, and is moving to San Jose. So her mom is all, eff it, and just wants to go back to LA. So they want Sasha to decide where she wants to go.

Obviously, Sasha doesn't want to leave. And I'm torn on this. On the one hand, she's still the kid, so her being all, "I'm not leaving" does seem a little naive and bratty. On the other, there's no compelling reason for her mom to go to LA. Its not like she has a job there. She just wants to pick up on a whim even though her daughter's life and ballet is in Paradise. Its like, I get being divorced sucks but she has a kid to think about. She's going to upend Sasha's life? I mean, Sasha's a junior in HS, her mom can't wait two years just to provide some stability for her kid.

It ends up being moot, because Sasha is adamant, so her mother calls her bluff (though I'm not sure that's exactly what happened here), and leaves her the keys to the house which she could stay at until they close escrow. Like I figured it would be a big deal about what Sasha would do after that, but apparently her parents left her her credit card and are paying for her new apartment and all her stuff?

I mean, on the one hand, Sasha gets to stay and gets to keep the lifestyle she's accustomed to without adult supervision, but on the other, it is kinda shitty that her mom, rather than dragging Sasha kicking and screaming to LA or staying so as to not ruin Sasha's teen years, she just abandons her? At least emotionally, since I guess its not really abandoning if Sasha's parents are paying for her apartment.

But yeah, one of the new additions in the back half is Cozette and her brother. Who doesn't really feel like a real person, because she's just this weird entity, I guess maybe in the vein of the manic pixie dream girl. Like she moves the plot, by being someone Ginny becomes jealous of because she feels like Cozette is stealing Melanie away from their group. But otherwise, I couldn't tell you anything about her other than she's supposed to be super perfect, and her brother Frankie is this worldly artiste.

Like usually, they'd be that way in the first ep they're introduced, a wind that blows in and suddenly changes the status quo, like Jess on GG. But then you get to know them more, and we don't here.. But again, maybe its something they planned to do in the second season and they didn't get a chance to do stuff with them.
