Bunheads- So, I've finally finished this. Overall, it was a good run, I'm kinda disappointed it was canceled. Of course, I didn't watch it the first time around, so I can only blame myself. At least it didn't end with any big cliffhangers. I mean, they did set up somethings for the next season if there was going to be one. But there's nothing that was all, "G-D, this was unresolved!" Mostly, it was sad that we don't get more with these characters. In particular, Michelle and the girls were pretty talented. While I prefer song to dance, the dance numbers on the show were always pretty good. (Also, I'm amused Brad the piano player from Glee was also the piano player in this)
But getting back to the end, like the only two things that I guess are close to a cliffhanger are Truly and Millie finally making amends and Millie giving Truly back her store for free, but then both showing visible interest in Michelle's brother Scotty, possibly ruining the headway they just made. Then they do a zig-zag, with Sasha asking Michelle for sex advice, but then in the end we find out Ginny had sex with Frankie, and he basically hasn't talked to her since and she's crushed.
And that's where the show ends. The girls had followed Michelle to an audition, saw what it was like, and though Michelle did good, unbeknown to them, the audition was just done for union rules. The casting director already had girls in mind. Actually I guess that was a third unresolved issue. The pianist thought Michelle was great, and apologized for wasting her time, but he apparently does stuff in NY all the time that he thinks she'd be perfect for. He was unable to give her his card, instead saying he'd find her later, and I'm not sure if she left before he could do that. But yeah, the guy could have led to a possible thing that would pull Michelle away from Paradise.
I mean, Michelle is still talented as hell, and she's not that old, but older than a lot of her competition. And she's formed a bond with the girls and with Fanny and Truly and the rest of the town. It may not be the life she expected or wanted, but I think being a teacher is something that finally fulfills her.
At least the show didn't end with her having to decide between the school and a Broadway career. It just ended, and I guess you can presume a happy ending where she does just end up becoming a mentor for the girls permanently, helping Fanny build her school into something bigger and more wonderful. And the Stone sisters work their issues out. And the Bunheads go onto great things.
Speaking of, heh, I do ship Boo/Sasha and Melanie/Ginny. Besides, all the guys they're involved with mostly suck. Actually, I guess Roman wasn't too bad, he was pretty good to Sasha and didn't do anything jerky. Indeed, its surprising he stuck around throughout the craziness. And Carl was nice enough too. I wasn't thrilled with him in the beginning, yeah, Melanie and Ginny were pretty mean to him, but I think he was a little too hostile and jerky with Boo after that.
But Dez and Frankie? Ugh. Melanie and Ginny deserve way better. Dez may have a hidden side that we may have gotten to see more of had there been a second season, but he was kinda a dope. And Frankie just seemed so pretentious, with the art thing and trying to be all mysterious.
Oh, and since I don't think I've done it on any of my Bunhead posts in the past few days, here's my comments on the ladies. Michelle is pretty hot with the dancer's body and everything. And she's a great singer, which is always a plus in my book. Of the bunheads, while the girls are all appealing in their own ways, I'm torn on whether Sasha or Melanie are my favorite. Like I thought Sasha was pretty cute from what little we saw of her on the Netflix revival of Gilmore Girls, but her later season look reminded me of short-haired Rory, but with darker hair, which was my favorite Rory look.
As for Melanie, she's pretty of course, but doesn't have as many issues as Sasha does, and I loved the roller derby thing and the rage. Her being all, "Hulk watch table" was totally cute.
I also adored Truly's quirky weirdness. Or is it weird quirkiness? Like there was just something so endearing and cute about her making the cardboard kitchen mock-up. And how dress-making was serious business to her.
