No sleep in Heaven, or Bethlehem
Sep. 5th, 2008 03:23 pmIsn't Spring Awakening a rather risque musical for a high school to do? I haven't actually seen it, but I'd heard about it. Sure, the songs sound hip, but doesn't it involve masturbation, rape, suicide, and abortion? You'd think one of those "OMG, this involves sex, we must protect the children" type parents who protest things like the David would have a cow. Or since West Beverly is full or rich brats, the parents let the kids do it because they want their kids to think their cool?
But yeah, after seeing the first half of 90210 the other day, I'll revise my statement about the grandma. I guess she is very much Lucille Bluth, only not as conniving? Ah, I didn't realize blondie whom Rob Estes knocked up "almost 20 years ago" was Naomi's mom. So again, since there's a half brother of both Naomi and Annie floating around out there, I bet we see a storyline where they're competing for an older guy, WHO TURNS OUT TO BE THEIR HALF BROTHER!
Of course, I'm totally confused about the time line there. When Lucille was all "your father pulled this pig prank", I think she mentioned he was a senior. And I guess he couldn't have left until he finished high school. But when he was talking to Naomi's mom, he said "it was almost 20 years ago!" implying he knocked her up around 1988-90. So how the hell did he know Kelly? Didn't she and the gang not graduate until '93? But there was that pic of her and him circa 1990. And it sounded like he was gone and thus did not know Naomi's mom was knocked up.
And Naomi just turned 16, and since they're all in the same classes, I assume that's how old Annie is, meaning they were born in 1992. And it sounds like both Annie's parents graduated college before they had her, since they made some reference about college naughtiness back when they were 22, meaning he need to be a senior around or before 88, so he and Kelly can't have been at school at the same time! I'm not sure the established time line makes sense!
Oh, and is there the implication that Kelly's son is Brandon's?! She got that late night call where she tells the caller, "he's been asking about you", and then when Brenda comes by the next day, Kelly tells her, "oh yeah, your brother called me the other day at 3am".
Soul Calibur blather: Since all the CASs I made were chyx, thought I'd make some male ones. But I didn't want to re-use movesets, so I couldn't do a Kaz or Gladius. Settled on a Gambit, and decided to use Yun Seong's moveset. So I played Yun Seong's story mode to unlock his most powerful weapon. Now, I would to be a fool for not using him before! I wasn't a fan of Yun Seong when he first came out, I thought he was a poor replacement for Hwang. But I did not know he had "automagically win" technique in SC4.
Well, its a slight exaggeration, but I saw one of the faqs mention using his avenging claws attack (f, B, B) to fulfill the "win with a critical finish" secret requirement on some of the ascending floors. Little did I know how effective the move is, at least against opponents in the normal difficulty story mode! Just keep in spamming it (well, you may have to mix it up a little), but basically, its slow enough that the computer will try to block it, but not so slow that the normal-difficulty AI will be able to counter you too often. So they'll foolishly keep blocking the move, depleting their soul gauge pretty quick, then its soul crush and critical finish time! Even with a base Yun, first time playing him, I was able to pull of a critical finish about 5 or 6 times in story mode. Even if I don't manage the critical finish, spamming avenging claws will kill them right quick.

Alas, while the set up worked well skill wise (enough power and gauge to get soul gauge boost c, soul gauge damage b, and auto unblockable attack A) the color scheme leaves much to be desired. I originally went for a black and grey theme, but the usurper's mask and nightmare greaves seem to have a yellow tinge when colored black, while the leviathan pauldrons and dueler's gloves end up looking like polished gold and silver. Settled on a sort of subdued blue color scheme to match Siltrana's (they are partners, after all), which kinda looks better, but too subdued and you run into the tinge problem, but bright blue isn't very stealthy.
