Another trophy I haven't gotten in Superhot yet is the one for killing 1987 guys in endless mode. I guess that makes sense, there's nine arenas, and you unlock all the modes for each arena after you've killed 150 total in that arena. So to be efficient, when I unlocked the 20 kills challenge for a board, I switched to that to get the next 50 kills to unlock the 20 seconds mode, and then that one to unlock the minute mode.

So, really, I had really done a tad over what was required, so at least 1350. So been working on getting to 1987:

Endless Lobby:

Endless Bridge:

Endless Break In:

Endless Warehouse

Those are about 40-50 kills each, so I'm prolly around 1500, just another 487 to go!

But yeah, as much as I loathe hot-switching, I've learned to recognize when I'm totally effed and have no choice to but to body jump. That and constantly having to scan around for enemies to make sure I don't get shot in the back (or snuck up on! Its like how the eff did they get that close?!)

Also been playing Tekken to get everyone up to genbu rank so if they equip the beastly horn it will be in its final form. It ends up being roughly about 150 wins to get there, working on Josie right now. Flip pride!

She's a bit of an odd duck. First off, she's Filipino, but her fighting style isn't really like actual Filipino martial arts. Then again, those mostly involve stick and knife fighting, and whatever empty hand techniques they have involve totally wrecking an opponent- joint breaks and the like. Of course, Yoshimitsu and Master Raven use swords, so it should be fair game.

But yeah, its weird because her style is basically kickboxing, which is covered by a several other characters. And her personality... like one of her win poses is her being all, "Whew, I can't believe I managed to win!" and then start crying. WTF?!

Degrassi- New season of Degrassi, through the first three eps so far. spoiler cut )

Video game blather- Hey, I finally, finally unlocked all the kustom kombat modifiers in MKX. I mean, it took a few months, but I finally drew all the different modifiers in the hourly living towers. So now I not longer have to check those every so often hoping to get a modifier I don't have yet.

I also finally reached the 2000 battles in Tekken to unlock all the customization options. So I actually spent a whole lot of time building outfits for all the characters. I guess all that I have left to do for now is I guess reach 20 dan with all the characters so the Beastly Horn accessory is maxed out. I have the season pass for the game, and its sounds like they'll be adding new modes and characters over the next year, so its good there'll still be stuff to do in the game.

I know people have been clamoring for older characters who didn't make the cut in this game, like Anna, Bruce, Kunimitsu or the Changs. But specifically Lei Wulong. I mean, Anna was always a slightly tweaked Nina, Bruce and Bryan shared a lot of commonality, and Kuni was similar to Raven (though I guess now, Master Raven). But Lei was always a really unique character, looking like Jackie Chan and having all the different stances. I assume he'll be back at some point.

But apparently Tekken is getting two new guest characters. Definitely curious as to who those would be.

Tekken blather- So after reaching Tekken God Prime with Lili, moved on to unlock customizations for other character. First, played Alisa. I had already unlocked most of her combat outfit, just needed the helmet, which I got, as well as both pieces of the peach swimsuit. She's an okay character, the one thing I disliked is she's one of those stance characters.

As I've said before, I dislike special stance characters because a lot of the time you accidentally go into them and not realize it and wonder why the character is not playing like you're expecting to. Because you've switched stances and now the buttons and motions do a different thing! She's a little more tolerable because its mainly just normal mode and destructive form. And destructive form is easy enough to get to, but because I suck, its not like I get to stay in it for long before getting hit out of it.

So what's the use of destructive form if I can't even utilize it? I mean, I don't mind it so much when its kinda like a tricky, defensive thing to draw opponents in, like Lee's hitman stance. But if the moves in this other form are better than their normal moves, then it seems like something I'd always want to get into. But if I can't even get to do them before getting hit out of the stance, why bother? Stick with what works.

After got all her stuff and got to 100 wins to get both her titles, moved on to Leo. Which for some reason the announcer pronounces "Lay-o". Also, Leo's gender is confusing as hell. In the previous games, it seemed like "he" was really a she in disguise. I mean Leo in this game is slight, could be a girl in disguise. But he definitely sounds like a he, and not in a way they could be disguising their voice to sound like a he. Then again, its hard to tell since Leo speaks exclusively in German:

And the instructions refer to him as a he. Interestingly enough though, unlike the other male characters, he has no "shirtless" option. Actually, I dunno if Bob has a shirtless option, since he's a fatty. i didn't notice, but apparently he doesn't have access to leather tops either. I mean, the leather vest is just a vest, no shirt underneath. And I guess the "barbarian" top is just a couple of straps of leather, which would cover nothing if Leo is actually a she with breasts. Its all very confusing. Like if Leo is still a girl disguised as a guy (or pre-op transgender, which is fine too), why don't they reference it anywhere?

Another interesting thing about Leo's customizations is one of them is a "slim-fit military coat", which is basically a leather long coat in the style of WWII Germany military uniforms. However, if you try to equip him with that and the "officer hat" that everyone has as an option, it will unequip the coat. I guess because it looks Nazi-ish?

Its weird, because Dragunov's main outfit is a military officer uniform with long coat, and he's perfectly fine using the officer hat. Is it because Dragunov is Russian and Leo is German, and as such having the German dressed up looking like a Nazi is a no-no?

Still haven't unlocked the combat top, which is basically a shirt with bulletproof vest, but slimmer than the actual bulletproof vest customization. Like I tried pairing the normal bulletproof vest with the combat pants, but it looks a little bulky at the top. Also, when trying to equip the tight mask, the scarf part has some clipping with the back of the vest. And again with the BS customization options, its annoying you can't equip the mask with the other hairstyles.

Anyways, I like his/her. Their? I'll use their. Though they are small, they use a cool, hard hitting style similar to Akira in Virtua Fighter. Which seems to fit with my turtling style of defending and firing back with precise, hard hitting strikes. Hopefully that combat top will unlock before I hit 100. But I'm sticking with them until I get it.

GLOW- Heh, I'm slow. spoiler cut )

Oh, I also didn't realize one of Carmen's brothers was played by Carlito from WWE. He always cracked me up because his catch phrase was, "I spit in the face of people who don't want to be cool!":

Which is weird, because who the hell doesn't want to be cool? Also, still trying to figure out if Miguel from Tekken 7 is doing a Carlito impression.

More Tekken blather- Finally reached max rank with Lili, "Tekken God Prime". I had mentioned earlier about wanting to unlock the different ki colors, turns out they're not random drops, you earn them from reaching certain ranks. So now that I have other colors besides green, I can better match the ki colors to outfits.

I've almost got all the stuff I really want, there's still a few pieces here and there, but I've bought all the 1m pieces I liked. I was wondering what the APC wheels accessory for Jack-7 was, I thought it was just more silliness. But when combined with some of his body options, it can make him look like he's a Transformer.

What else is left to do? Well, unlock everyone's titles, of course. But maybe grow everyone's beastly horns accessories to max. They start off as small tiny white horns, but around 25 dan they turn into large red ones. So I'll rank everyone up so that they have the big horns, because I'm obsessive-compulsive like that!

Wynonna Earp- Holy crap, the full Waverly cheerleading routine for Nicole was hot AF. spoiler cut )
geebs: (Default)
Tekken blather- So in my quest to unlock all of Lili's stuff I've ranked her way beyond the previous characters. As I said before, I played them to 100 wins in order to unlock their second title. So, most of them are 16th Dan, Vanquishers. But I pressed on with Lili to get her Lil Devil outfit components. But by the time I got that, I was a few Dan ahead, so I figured I might as well use her to get to the last rank. So I'm up to 31st Dan, Ryujin, which is five away from the top rank, Tekken God Prime.

Although it doesn't look like I get a trophy for that, the only thing it really gets me is seeing Tekken God Prime listed on the upper right hand corner of the screen as highest rank achieved. And since its offline mode, its not like anyone will see it. But hey, attempting it does get me closer to the 2000 matches needed to unlock everything. Which the way things are going, I might actually get everything unlocked before then. Its still chance, so you never know, but ~800 chances to unlock maybe a couple dozen things at most, I like those odds.

Anyways, in my search to see how many ranks they are, google results got me messages from the various message boards where people are all, "I'm rank X, is that good?" Ugh, who asks that?! I mean, you can easily google the ranks to know where you stand. I know why they're asking it, they're looking for validation, for people to be all, "Oh wow, that's good!" But its dumb, because 1) It makes you look like a douche, because you're trying to be all, "Oh, this is my rank? That's good? Cool, I didn't even know I was so great!" 2) You're possibly setting up for embarrassment because again, such people are looking for the answer to be, "Yes, that's good!" but if you don't know whether your rank is good or not, chances are it effin isn't.

Like no, Brawler is not a good freaking rank, its only 10th Dan, out of 36. Just don't. Also, people who are all, "Well, I'm stuck at rank X, looks like button mashing has gotten me as far as I can go!" If that's how you play, you have no business playing a fighting game! Get the eff out of here, scrub!

It pisses me off, because people will practice getting good at a shooter, or any other game. But some people act like, "Oh, I don't need to learn moves, I'll just mash buttons!" Its like, what do you have against the genre that you won't even try to play properly?! Today's fighting games are intricately designed works of art and you're shitting on the developers if you don't play it right.
geebs: (Default)
More Tekken blather- So I've said one of the harder things about this game is all the moves to memorize. And when I say moves to memorize, I'm not even talking their entire moveset, just a fraction. Because there's too much unless you dedicate yourself solely to one or two characters. Like I'm not even talking about the traditional "special moves" like you see in SF or MK, all b,b+3 or f, d, d/f+punch. There is that, but each attack button does something different depending on which direction button you press, as well as the neutral position. Not to mention combinations of buttons. So that's 10 directions (neutral, f, d/f, d, d/b, b, u/b, u, u/f) and 8 buttons/combinations (LP, RP, LK, RK, LP+RP, LK+RK, LP+RK, LK+RP, LP+LK and RP+RK don't count because those are always throws), that is a lot!

You'll prolly only use around ten to a dozen moves though, but even then, I've only really played ten of the characters, that's more than a 100 things to memorize! I mean, the Mishima dudes have a lot of similarities so in one way that helps. But on the other, so they wouldn't be exact clones with their movesets, they purposely make certain similar sequences have different hit properties.

But yeah, the other thing I'm realizing is, certain characters favor certain tactics. I'm a very defensive player, turtling up until I can find an opening. But some characters require aggressiveness. They're high risk, high reward. And I'm sometimes not bold enough.

Though saying I play defensively is not entirely accurate. Like at the start of the round, I do try to be quicker on the draw. Hit first, hit hard, press the attack. So issue one is if they manage to defend, or worse, counter. THEN I turtle up, looking for an opening. Which works better with some characters than others, because they can retort with some single, high damage moves. Some characters do their damage through a series of quick, lower damage moves. With them, you shouldn't really keep blocking, you should create that opening by going for a counter hit that has higher priority/better frames than the enemy's attack and press the momentum. So where I sometimes make my mistake is playing those latter characters as the former, poking when I should be unleashing a barrage.

Of course the other issue is being out of position, throwing off my timing. Like when I do unleash a barrage and get an enemy down low, I'll knock them too far, and I become less bold, fearing a reprisal if I don't play it safe. And then I end up in the position in the previous paragraph.

Anyways, as I said before, I'm at the point where money is no object, I've almost bought all the good stuff I want. Now most of things I want are things I can only get from a random drop (or heist battle). Like I've reached 100 with Lili, but I think I'm still going to continue playing her until I get the last couple of things. I mean, anyone can get anything, but supposedly you get a better chance of getting a person's stuff if you play them.

Getting to customizations though, one thing I find annoying is it can be annoyingly limited at times. Like stuff for the head slot only works for the default hairstyle. Which makes sense in some cases, as if they're wearing a cowboy hat or beret or knitted cap, their hair is tucked in. So at that point, it doesn't matter what hairstyle you have. But others, there's no reason they can't be compatible. They don't cover the whole head, so why can't I equip a tiara or head band with this or that hairstyle. Its especially annoying in terms of the rainbow and metallic hair- those are just the default hairstyle that either cycles through various color, or silver or gold with a metallic sheen. There's no reason they shouldn't work with anything that works with the default hair, its just the same style, different color.

I'm also annoyed feet and lower body aren't separate. I mean, there are certain lower body clothing styles that wouldn't work with certain shoes, like you shouldn't be able to combine a hakama with thigh high boots. But like sometimes I think this skirt or shorts would fit better with these other shoes.

And I'm frustrated that I have yet to unlock other ki flame colors than green. Because honestly, a person have a blazing flame aura surround them is bad-ass, but when its green, it just makes it seem like they really smell.
geebs: (Default)
Tekken blather- So I reached at least 100 fights with Heihachi, Kazuya, Jin, Lee, Lars, Bryan Fury, Dragunov, Katarina, and Nina Williams. 9 down, another 11 to go to reach 2000 matches. Some people were wondering why they let you unlock everything at 2000 matches, like isn't that unfair for people who slogged through treasure battle? But honestly, I think if you played that many matches of treasure battle, you'll have unlocked most of what you want before then.

I mean, right now, I think I've bought all the main customization stuff I want, plus all the stuff in the gallery. Everything left that I want is now the stuff you randomly win from treasure chests. I would hope after another 1100 fights I would get most if not all of those too. And if I don't, its nice to know there's an end in sight by reaching 2000.

Like it seems like after story mode, the main modes to play are treasure and online. Arcade is pointless since there's no individual arcade endings, so if you're going play against the computer, might as well do it in a mode where you'll get prizes.

Anyways, like I said, given the large movesets of all these characters, I feel like freaking Taskmaster whenever I pick up a new character. Like I'm forgetting moves and tactics I learned about character X when I move to character Y. I mean, some characters have similarities. And most characters have combos that are functionally the same even though they look different. Like there will be similar button sequences.

Still, each character has idiosyncrasies to know. Like what moves are good to whip out when you're feeling the pressure, which ones have priority, which ones are dangerous and can be punished. I like to know the best moves a character can pull off that start with holding the directional pad back. That was I know what's available to retort after I've turtled up.

Like I was having trouble with Lars until I learned those particular kinds of moves and knew how they hit and what their distance was. Heh, he had this cool move I'd seen the computer pull off where he knees someone, and then auto grabs them by the throat, holds them up and snaps their neck. And I saw it was a simple B+4, where the auto grab would happen on counter hit.

Playing Lili right now, as she has customizations I want to unlock. Which going by that, that list also includes Leo, Asuka, Alisa, and Eliza. But there are others I will eventually want to try for their moves and fighting style like Shaheen and Kazumi. I keep needing to check the latter out in practice mode to see if she plays like the rest of the Mishima family, as she does seem to have a few similar moves.
geebs: (Default)
Continuing my Tekken character commentary:

Sergei Dragunov- Since I didn't play the Tekken games between 4 and 7 all that much, hadn't gotten to use him hardly at all previously. But now that I have, I like him. Strike wise, to me he feels in between Lee and Bryan, as you can see a lot of similarity in the animations- I'm sure when he first came out they cribbed a lot of his attacks from those two. But being a sambo practitioner, he's grapple heavy. I like that a lot of his attacks transition straight into throws on counter hit.

But he's another one with a lot of good customizations. His latest outfit is all WWII Hugo Boss designed German military officer style, but his previous outfit is quite smart looking as well. Plus he has the stealth suit, and has a lot of good accessories with the stealth goggles, stealth mask, gas mask, and cyborg eye, on top of the guns and swords you can equip. Alas, he doesn't get any special personal weapons like Katarina did with the bazooka, or Bryan and his rocket pod backpack or girder, he just gets a few remote control toy tanks.

Anyways, yeah, between his outfits and accessories I was able to make a bunch of distinct, bad-ass looks.

Bryan Fury- The bad-ass replicant himself. He was my main in Tekken 3, and he's still a hard hitter. He's another one with a lot of good customizations, since he has a whole bunch of varied tops and legs to go with them, plus extra weapons on top of the ones everyone else gets.

Look 1 is the standard head with the lower skull face bandana, metallic rainbow hair, night-vision goggles, the special version of his jacket with the skulls, carrying both the shotgun and assault rifle. Look 2 is the combat bionics body with the kevlar helmet and night vision goggles, the T6 pants with the ammo belts, and the rocket pod backpack. For look 3 I went with the ripped version of his T-shirt from the I wanna say.. Tekken 3 ending where there's a hole in it from the round the tanks shot at him, with his special camo pants, and the giant girder on his back. For look 4, I went with the green-ish cyborg body paired with his normal legs, plus a beret and skull face paint, and armed with the survival knife to give him a nice scary cyborg commando look.

Its cool that he and Dragunov have multiple unique distinct combat looks. I mean, everyone gets the bulletproof vest, so you can give any character a soldier look, but the two of them have their own thing going, looking tough and scary to boot.

Mishima-style karate guys- Heihachi, Kazuya, and Devil Jin. The karate bad-asses of Tekken. Say what you will about which video game fighter would come on top, but c'mon, at the very least the Mishima clan looks like they would wipe the floor with Ken, Ryu, Ryo Sakazaki, Jean Kujo, Ein, etc.

Its funny, because as the game progressed, they made sure to change up the properties and animations of what were previously shared moves so they'd all be distinct. But all of them seem to have lost the twin pistons. At least performed via d/f+3, 4. I think a Kazuya can do it while rising from a crouch. But to be fair, that was a cheesy move, since it was easy to pull off for decent damage and good juggling opportunity.

Kazuya is easily the best of the 3 in my opinion, since he has the simplified inputs for his godfists and the hell sweeps, plus the gut punch and easy tsunami kick (d/f+4,4). Honestly, you can get a lot of damage spamming the gut punch and following it up with the tsunami kick. Actually, following up a lot of his moves with the tsunami kick will get good results. I mean, there are prolly better combos to follow up on from a gut punch or wind god fist, but the tsunami kick is an easy follow up.

Devil Jin plays very similarly, gets all those devil moves standard, plus a few more tools from his mother. Which lies the problem with me, I like Kazuya because he's simpler, Devil Jin has a bit too many more things in his tool belt that my need to "try something different" and try moves and combos I'm not used to can get me in trouble with him.

Heihachi is one bad-ass looking old dude. Again, while he does share some moves with his son and grandson, he has his own thing. He used to be a combo of Kazuya and Paul, which is a pretty deadly combo. I mean, the wind god fist AND the hammer punch to fist of death? Which, the latter has turned into a palm strike that doesn't hit nearly as hard as Paul's fist of death.

I wanna say he comes with some more heavy hitting moves in his arsenal, but he's also slower and has less stamina. Actually, I guess he was my other main in T3, and its been disappointing how many moves they've changed or taken away from him over the iterations. Like my bread and butter combo in T3 was to stun them with a Demon Boar, juggle them into the air with a twin pistons, do a left uppercut, followed by Demon Massacre.

But since he no longer has Demon Boar (he has something similar) or Twin Pistons, I can't do that in T7. Not that he doesn't have a bunch of good tools in his toolbox. Its just he plays less similarly to his son and grandson then they do to each other. So I have to remember that he's his own man and remember the things they have that he doesn't and not to try doing them, as well as remembering he has some pretty unique moves of his own.

Outfit wise, they all have some pretty pimp looking outfits. Literally. I'm just sad Heihachi no longer has a hakama option.

But yeah, those are all the characters I've played for at least 50 bouts to unlock their first title. I've done 100 with Kazuya and Katarina for their second title. And yeah, all the titles unlock at 2000 battles, but since that's well 2000 battles, you're going to be playing 100 battles with at least 20 of these characters to get everything.
geebs: (Default)
So I got Tekken 7 a couple weeks ago, and have been playing that a bunch. I've always favored Tekken as it filled a nice niche between Street Fighter and Virtua Fighter. 3D and highly technical like VF, but not as slow seeming.

I like the addition of Rage Arts, super moves you can pull off when your health is low. It is a bit of a double edged sword though, especially against the CPU. Because that also means if you don't put the opponent down quickly enough when they're in rage mode, they'll pull one off and turn the tides. Particularly if you're both low, a rage art automatically takes off at least an eighth of your health bar. So if you're under that its an auto-kill.

I mean, they are blockable, but that entails memorizing everyone's rage art to know where it hits in the beginning. Well, and reacting fast enough to block it when you see it start up. There's also rage drives, which aren't auto-damage dealers, but I'm sure in the hands of an expert are more lucrative because you can combo from them. But, alas, I am not that good- like if I'm in rage mode, that means I'm about to die, so I'm going to go for the automatic damage to take them out before they take me out if they're also low, or to get some breathing room. Actually, I guess if you're both down low, you want to do the rage art, but if you're opponent is still healthy, a rage drive will give you breathing room and put you in better position.

Another thing I like is treasure battle. Its been a long time since I played the previous Tekken installment on the PS3, or even Soul Calibur, but I want to say customizations are WAY more affordable than they used to be. I mean, the unique stuff to each character is still somewhat pricey (1 million - 1.5 million gold each) or only won through a treasure chest, but everything seems easier to buy than they used to. And even 1m isn't that much. A base fight is already 25k, not counting the money you get from a treasure chest which can range anywhere from 1k to 500k. And your winnings only go up as you get on a streak. So you can easily get 1 million from just 10 fights if you're lucky.

And apparently everything unlocks once you do 2000 battles. Which one might wonder, why spend money at all in that case? 2000 battles is still a freaking lot. And you'll earn lots of money in the mean time, so why not drop money to get your customizations early so you'll get to enjoy them while doing all those matches? But more on that later.

I beat story mode, including the epilogue fight with Shin Akuma. I may not be the best player, but at least I was able to beat him. Though I still need to beat him in treasure battle to get a trophy. And the dude is cheesy AF. But he's the only one I don't have a trophy for beating of the special characters. In addition to the story mode, there's individual character "story" modes.

Which are just one freaking match with a less than 2 minute cutscene for beating. Heh, and I thought the individual story modes for SFV where sparse and lacking! Heh, the game describes it as fights to give further insight into individual characters, but that's BS, because some of those cut scenes are ridiculous and non-sensical.

Its also funny because some characters get more respect than others. I mean, the Mishimas and family, and by extension Nina and some of the other characters associated with the G Corporation, Tekken Force, or Mishima Zaibatsu are treated seriously. But Paul and Law, who have been staples from the beginning, have been basically reduced to assclowns. Like Paul's story is he's lamenting he'll have another match with Kuma in the tournament yet again. But there's a last minute change! He'll finally get to fight someone serious! Only the new challenger is... Panda. And heh, even if he wins, his ending is the crowd booing him and tossing stuff at him for beating up a lady Panda.

Which brings me to the characters. Since I've totally completed all the story stuff, I've had a taste of all the characters, but I've only really played with a handful. Which is one of the more overwhelming parts of this game. There's 38 characters, each with a unique moveset, and a large one at that, way bigger than what you have to deal with in Street Fighter or Mortal Kombat. So its hard to learn everyone.

But here's my takes on the one I've played so far:

Katarina Alves- Easily my favorite of the new characters. And what a babe! HOTT! As a Savate fighter from Brazil, she seems a little redundant since we have a kick heavy character in Hwoarang (and previously, Baek). But, she's more straight forward. The thing I dislike about Hwoarang is he has so many different stances, with changes built into his combos that he feels out of control. Like I just want to do a combo without all of a sudden being in a different stance where all the moves have changed.

Of course, her weakness is that she's easily punishable since her moves are predictable. Hwoarang's advantage is because of all those stance changes he's tricky to read. But like I said, the opponent might not know what I'm going to do, but neither do I because I changed stances when I didn't want to, and its hard enough memorizing moves without having to memorize which moves are available in which stance.

So against a skilled opponent, she's in for trouble. But its not as big a deal against the AI, which I exclusively play as. The other thing I like about her is she has some great customizations. I've made at least 4 distinct ones, because I was lucky enough to lock her good stuff- the Ranger top and skirt, shirtless, summer dress, and no-summer dress, i.e. the skimpy bikini. Its just unfortunate that she doesn't have her belly tat in the last one. But I did include the under-eye paint in Brazilian flag colors to all versions, because its cute.

So look 1 is the shirtless one paired with the Ranger skirt, accessorized with her bazooka, 2 is the summer dress, which I've colored into a nice black number with blue edges. Look 3 is the Ranger top with armored pants topped off with a beret, also with the bazooka. And the final look is the no-summer dress one, in red, with the diva short hair cut in pink. As I said, they all have the Brazil under eye paint, but I can't remember who has beastly horns or angel wings or the hippie band or rainbow hair or the katana.

Which I feel kinda lazy and uninspired that so many of my customizations include the katana and/or the shotgun over the back. Also, I guess that's the one disappointing thing about treasure battle, that you can't use the items.

Lee Chaolan- My favorite all time character in the series. The boy exudes style. Which speaks to me because I don't just want to kick ass, I wanna look good doing so. He's cool and flashy, and again against a skilled player I would prolly eat it. But against the AI I can spam the laser edge kicks to good effect.

He's another one I like because he has a lot of good customization options. Look 1 is his normal outfit, only with the jacket in gold instead of blue, with the venetian mask, colored similarly, and the golden aura. Look 2 is shirtless with leather pants, the beastly horns, angel wings, and one of the many, many sunglass options this game has, accessorized with the stun baton. Looks 3 and 4 are similar. I went with bulletproof vest, armored pants, sunglasses, and a beret for 3 and the vest paired with cargo pants and a cap for 4. Again, I can't remember which outfits I gave which, but they're either carrying the shotgun, assault rifle, plasma rifle, or katana.

And this entry is long enough, and I've been working on it for the past couple hours, so I'll continue my character takes in a later post.

DW7 stuff: cut for your benefit )

So its E3 this week, here's what's got my attention so far:

Star Wars: The Old Republic- I'm not actually into MMORPGs, and the actual game doesn't look that great to me, but the cinematics are cool:

Resident Evil stuff- The RE franchise is delving into the squad-based shooter world with Operation Raccoon City. Some people are pissed all "this isn't RE!", but its like, calm the frick down. Its not the direction the series is going to begin to go. So yes, it isn't traditional RE, but its looks like a cool game that takes place in that universe. I mean, if you're wanting something more traditional, there's Resident Evil: Revelations for the 3DS

>Assassin's Creed: Revelations: Here's the new trailer with Ezio being all bad-ass:

Ezio's looking a little old though. But looks like he's hanging around Altair's old stomping grounds.

Soul Calibur V- So this is a 17 year time jump from the previous game, since two of the characters are Sophitia's now adult children. But how is Mitsurugi still around then, he's got to be in his 50s now!

Ninja Gaiden 3- Looks pretty bloody and brutal, though Hayabusa's always been pretty bad-ass.

Street Fighter x Tekken- I hear some SF folks complaining the pace is a little slower than what they're used to, but still, its kinda cool to see fighters from these two franchises face off against each other.

Uncharted 3: Looks pretty awesome, heh, the trailer makes it look like a summer action flick.

Kinect Star Wars- It at least gets points for cool use of the tech. Though I would feel totally goofy having to yell "lightsaber: on" to turn my lightsaber on.

Gears of War 3- You get Mechs now! The other interesting thing I've seen is getting to play stages from two perspectives. The example they show is Marcus and Dom fighting a Leviathan on the ship, and once they hurt it enough, its killed by Damon and Cole dropping a crate full of explodey things on it from above. But yeah, once you play Marcus and Dom's side, you get to play things from Damon and Cole's side, where they're getting into position to drop the things.

Mass Effect 3- Looks awesome, and also a little more shooter-y than the previous titles?

Devil May Cry- Not sure why they had to reboot the series, but I'm sure it should be a solid action-er.

So I heard Namco put on a movie for their new Tekken X Street Fighter game. It differs from Capcom's SF x Tekken game in that the Namco one uses the Tekken fighting system and the Capcom one uses the SF fighting system. Topless Robot has it posted on their site, and it totally annoys me that they refer to Tekken as "button mashing shit".

People who think that obviously haven't played the game enough because I think its more technical than SF. I mean, yeah, one character (two actually, but they're just using the same style) is a button masher, but there's a lot of technique in the Tekken series. The various combos and reversals and multi-throws. And it has special moves just like SF, so I don't see how anyone could think Tekken is just a button masher.

In terms of hand to hand fighters (so I'm excluding Soul Calibur since its a weapons fighter), Virtua Fighter is the most technical series, followed by Tekken, then Street Fighter, then stuff like Dead or Alive and Mortal Kombat. I mean, to me Tekken is the middle ground between VF and SF, it has aspects of both. Tekken characters have way more moves than an SF character, but the pace of the game is faster than in VF. I'm fine with people hating on the system, because its not perfect, but it being a "button masher" is not one of its problems.
