Finally!!!!

Endless Warehouse 150+:

Got the kill 3 dudes with one shotgun blast trophy (at the 2:20 mark), and broke my endless streak record with 150+ kills to boot! Man, it gets really intense the further you go on. Anyways, reviewing the replay, my mistake was not realizing I missed the guy who spawned by the door with my shot, but to be fair I had a whole bunch of other guys in my face at the time.

Still no shotgun trophy, but I did get the cut a bullet with a katana trophy to pop:

I thought I had it already. But its easy enough to get it to pop, katana-only corridor is the perfect place to try and get it.

Still chasing the 1987 kills trophy. While I don't post every run, going by the the vids at the end of this playlist, and adding those totals to the minimum number of kills to unlock everything in endless mode (1350), and a guesstimate of the number of kills from all other runs, I should be very, very close. Unless the trophy is bugged, which would suck.

Also still have yet to get the three kills with one shotgun blast trophy, and as you can see in this vid, going for it got me killed- again, these guys seemed perfectly grouped for such a shot, and I somehow managed to fire in the exact spot that would hit NONE of them! bbv('This is total BS!')

Endless Office 81:

I really need to get better at reading the environment. Rewatching the end moments, I see the flash of an enemy spawning in the elevator to my left, but I'm so caught up in killing the guys on me that he kills me without me even seeing it coming.

Stairs Endless:

Frickin frick, I was so close to 100! What's frustrating is I knew someone was coming from down the stairs on my right, but I was so concerned with not getting killed by the heavily armed guys in front of me that I didn't check back with him and got blindsided.

That was so dumb too, I tossed an ashtray at one of the AR guys so I could get his rifle that what I should've done was toss the ash tray at one, the dogbowl at the other, and hope the corner provided me enough cover from shotgun guy who got me in the interim until he was close enough for me to punch and steal his shotgun.

And I am still freaking incredulous that I have not yet gotten the three kills with one shotgun blast trophy. As I aaid, there are so many times where they seem bunched up perfectly. But I guess I don't take into account bullets don't fly through enemies, and two (or in really bad cases, only one) take the brunt of the blast and end up shielding the other guys from the pellet spread.

Another trophy I haven't gotten in Superhot yet is the one for killing 1987 guys in endless mode. I guess that makes sense, there's nine arenas, and you unlock all the modes for each arena after you've killed 150 total in that arena. So to be efficient, when I unlocked the 20 kills challenge for a board, I switched to that to get the next 50 kills to unlock the 20 seconds mode, and then that one to unlock the minute mode.

So, really, I had really done a tad over what was required, so at least 1350. So been working on getting to 1987:

Endless Warehouse

Those are about 40-50 kills each, so I'm prolly around 1500, just another 487 to go!

But yeah, as much as I loathe hot-switching, I've learned to recognize when I'm totally effed and have no choice to but to body jump. That and constantly having to scan around for enemies to make sure I don't get shot in the back (or snuck up on! Its like how the eff did they get that close?!)

Also been playing Tekken to get everyone up to genbu rank so if they equip the beastly horn it will be in its final form. It ends up being roughly about 150 wins to get there, working on Josie right now. Flip pride!

She's a bit of an odd duck. First off, she's Filipino, but her fighting style isn't really like actual Filipino martial arts. Then again, those mostly involve stick and knife fighting, and whatever empty hand techniques they have involve totally wrecking an opponent- joint breaks and the like. Of course, Yoshimitsu and Master Raven use swords, so it should be fair game.

But yeah, its weird because her style is basically kickboxing, which is covered by a several other characters. And her personality... like one of her win poses is her being all, "Whew, I can't believe I managed to win!" and then start crying. WTF?!

Okay, I finally completed impossible mode today, so this is the last of these superhot vid posts.

Stairs impossible:

I really would like to complete this level without hotswitching, but haven't figured out how to do that yet. I mean, you have to move immediately, as there's a guy with an AR right above you ready to fire, and keep going until you catch up to shotgun guy ahead of you. Its the standard punch him for his shotgun, but the problem is there's so many guys and little cover. If you shoot him, try and toss your shotgun at pistol guy and take his gun, the other shotgun guy running up the stairs will get you.

You can shoot pistol guy with the shotgun and melee guy who's shotgun you stole to death, the problem is you have to be fast and there's only a little patch of ground where you're protected from both the AR guy at the top of the stairs, and shotgun guy charging from behind. Indeed, in this vid, I got lucky and the spread of pellets managed to just all barely miss me. Now ideally, I woulda hit the shotgun guy with the fire extinguisher I grabbed off the wall, but yet again, it accidentally impacts against the pillar I was just using for cover and ducked out of. Good thing he's close enough for me to melee and grab his shotgun, and that he and shovel guy are close enough to take out with one blast.

At this point, the only active enemy is AR guy at the top of stairs, and he has the high ground, so charging at him would be suicide. Especially since another AR guy is about to appear at the top of the stairs since I just finished killing the first wave of guys. So I have no choice but to hotswitch.

I have to still be fast though, grab the piece of rebar from the wall and toss it at assault rifle guy who appears to stun him and I can get a hold of his gun to finish him off. Now, the remaining guys are coming from below, so I take a drop of faith off the top platform, toss the shotgun at the first guy, so I can get his pistol, shoot him, throw that empty pistol at the next guy, and so forth until they're all dead.

Office impossible mode:

Only thing to say about this vid was I thought I was going to be able to hit all three guys with my shotgun and finally get that trophy. But I only get two with the blast. bbv('This is total BS!')

Station impossible mode:

This plays out pretty much like hard mode, except since I only have one bullet, when I toss my weapon at the assault rifle guy coming out of the door on the left and hotswitch into the other guy, I need to take him out with a melee before grabbing his rifle, because I need that bullet for the guys across the tracks. I pop one, then have to circle in place behind cover to waste time until my hotswitch refreshes and jump into the last guy.

I guess if I had more guts, I'd toss the rifle at the remaining guy to stun him long enough for me to jump the tracks and finish him off. But things went so smoothly, I didn't want to risk it.

Train impossible mode:

I realized if I shot the shotgun between the center and right guys, I could take them both out without having to use any of their own weapons on them after I hotswitch into the left guy. That freed up both the shotgun and AR for me to use against the guys who appear at the other end of the train.

So I quickly grab the AR to take out shotgun guy, toss it, then grab the shotgun and shoot it to take on pistol guy. Then I quickly turn around and toss the shotgun at the guy at the controls of the train. Unfortunately, the shotgun never reaches him, it gets shredded by the incoming rifle fire. But at least it blocked those shots. And since he's still too far away, I have no choice but to hotswitch into him to end the level.

Gate impossible mode:

Since the guns are only one shot, I have to be frugal with my shots. Start off the same way, hotswitch into guy in the booth, grab shotgun, and blow away shotgun guy outside. Toss the shotgun at the pistol guy running through the other door, but since I need his pistol to take out the guy by the truck, I finish him off with a melee since I'm shielded from the rest of the enemies right now.

So now I have one shot with the pistol that I can use to take out truck guy, then toss it at the pistol guy appearing outside the door. It would be tempting to use that discarded shotgun to take him out, but the rushing AR guy is the bigger threat. So I shred him with the shotgun, toss the shotgun to prevent pistol guy from picking up his pistol, and then melee-ing him to save the pistol for one of the AR guys.

Pop off a shot to kill the left guy, and I was hoping to get through this level without hotswitching again, by tossing the empty pistol at the guy on the right in the hopes I can rush him. But I miss, so I have no choice but to jump into him to end the level.

Lobby impossible mode:

Hey, managed to do the final level without having to hotswitch at all. Like in hard mode, I cut down the first guy, toss the sword into the second and grab pistol guy's pistol and quickly pop the guy charging me from the far door on my right. I don't have time to see if the shot hits, I just listen for the shattering sound indicating I got him. Then I go into the side room.

Lucky for me, the assault rifle guy usually there has charged out the other door as I ran in. I give chase through that door, tossing the pistol at the AR guy to my right to make him drop his gun, and then grabbing the AR dropped by the guy I killed with the katana toss to finish him off.

I toss the AR and quickly run over to grab the fresh AR from the guy I just killed, which I use to kill the pistol guy who appears. Toss the rifle, I'm about to pick up pistol guy's pistol, but opt for the shotgun instead. I use it to blow away the assault rifle guy who appears, then toss it at the shotgun guy who appears so I don't have to worry about getting shot while I take care of katana guy.

Punch him, take his katana, chop him down then toss it at the last guy for the win.

More Superhot:

Hospital impossible mode:

This is actually my most dreaded level in the game, because of that wide open space covered by an assault rifle and shotgun guy, made harder with the increased bullet speed of impossible mode. Then if you get past that, you have armed enemies coming from three directions.

I run the first part fast and accurately, killing the pistol guy in the room just right that I can grab his gun off the floor and duck behind the cabinet by the window. I toss my empty pistol at AR beforehand in the hopes of stunning him, but no such luck there. But the cabinet protects me from shotgun guy, and I'm at a good angle to pop assault rifle guy.

Of course, what happens next is all sort of bullshit- I toss gun at shotgun guy, it breaks on the wall. I managed to make it to the gun on the chair, try to shoot shotgun guy, and hit the wall. I try to toss it him and hit the fucking wall for the third time in a row. Luckily the assault rifle is right there, so I pick it up and finally kill the guy.

I got extremely lucky here, I do a good job fighting it out, and I go for the shotgun on the floor, not knowing a guy just appeared behind me until his pistol shot sails right by me. But I get to the gun and beat him to the draw. I've found my rhythm though, and finish off the rest of the guys with ease.

Donut impossible mode:

I start off well, until I miss that one assault rifle toss. I turn around hoping there's a gun somewhere, but to no avail. My only hope is to duck behind the corner and hopefully punch a guy once he gets close to turn things around. The tactic works, and I'm able to fight my way out of the corner to beat the level.

Oldboy impossible mode:

Man, it doesn't go smoother than this. Every katana toss hit its mark, even the long toss there at one of the last two guys. I had purposely grabbed and fired only one of the pistols of the three pistol guys appeared, killing the first one with a katana toss, stunning the second guy with a thrown art piece, grabbing his pistol to kill the third guy, tossing it back at second guy to stun him again to give me time to grab the katana to carve him up. Which I then toss into the left assault rifle guy, and then grabbing the pistol off the floor to pop the other AR guy.

Elevator impossible mode:

Actually tried something different this time around. I punch the guys on my left and right, using the right guy's gun to shoot the dude in the middle before he can shoot me. There was prolly something more effective I could've done with the empty pistol, but I just end up tossing it at the right guy and then finishing him off in melee.

By this point the last guy has made a play for one of the guns on the floor, which is convenient, because it makes it easier for me to get it by punching him and grabbing it when it flies in the air, rather than trying to root around the ground for it myself. Now, here's where I do something different than I usually do.

I could shoot him, but the elevator doors are opening, and the shotgun guys are a bigger threat than this guy. So I shoot the right shotgun guy, toss the pistol at elevator guy to stun him so I can rush out of the elevator unaccosted. I grab the dead guys shotgun, and the reflection of a flash on the floor tells me the other shotgun guy fired at me and missed, which is lucky for me.

At this point, its all a matter of blowing shotgun away. The elevator guy managed to get his hand on a pistol though, so I toss my empty shotgun at him to stop him from shooting me long enough to get the other shotgun and pop him.

Ballroom impossible mode:

Its drop, chop, chop, toss sword into AR guy, grab his gun, pop AR guy at the top of the stairs, then charge up it. I toss the AR at katana guy to get his sword, chop him down, then toss it at pistol guy. Grab his pistol from the air, but this is were my perfection ends- I miss the pistol guy across the way, but I do manage to hit him with the pistol toss. So I don't have to worry about eating a bullet from him, all I need to do is punch katana guy, grab his sword and cut him down with it, then toss it into the last guy. At least those katana throws all hit their mark.

Meeting impossible mode:

This starts out the same as in hard mode, toss phone and first guy, grab his pistol and shoot him, then toss pistol at guy inside monitor room. Now with guns only having one shot, I have to remember to save a gun for the shotgun guy in front of the meeting room. So, I punch the second guy, use his pistol to shoot monitor room guy, and then finish the guy in front of me off in melee. That leaves me monitor room guy's gone, conveniently sitting on the shelf.

I pop from around the corner and shoot shotgun guy, toss pistol to stun AR guy on the right, then grab the shotgun and shoot- I was hoping to get both unarmed guys, but I only manage to hit one. I toss the shotgun at pistol guy to get him off my back, then melee the remaining charging guy. Somehow, the pistol guy's pistol flew over the table towards me, which I pick up to shoot AR guy, who had recovered his weapon. Lucky for me he decided to charge around the table instead of trying to shoot me from his normal spot.

Now, since I know a whole bunch of armed guys are coming from down the hall, I don't want to waste any of the guns on the last guy in the room, so I melee him to death. Now I have a shotgun and assault rifle to use on the incoming guards. The shotgun is closer, so I grab it and manage to take take two guys out with one blast. I try to toss the shotgun at the guy in the hall, but it hits the door jam.

No matter, I still get to the assault rifle in time to kill a guy, and with no weapons left in the room (except for a pistol in the back corner, but that's too far to be of use), I charge out into the hall tossing the AR guy at the first guy I see, shooting him with his own weapon. Repeat on the next guy. Unfortunately, when I toss the next gun, I hit the freaking corner of the wall again. But I'm quick enough to grab another shotgun from the floor and blow him away. Now this next shotgun toss hits its mark, and I grab the pistol the guy who I had just blasted drop and take out the last guy.

My continuing Superhot Impossible Mode saga:

Tirall impossible mode:

In other modes, after I dodge the truck and rush at it, charging at the back of the truck will usually get the AI to fire into the side of the truck trying to hit me even though the truck is in the freaking way. That closes the distance fast enough that I can dodge his last few bullets and rush him to take his gun and kill him.

But those bullets are too fast in impossible mode, so I instead have to duck into the alcove in the left, grab and toss a bottle at him so I can close the distance grab his gun, and cap him. Of course, since this is one bullet mode, I can't actually use the AR against the 3 pistol guys who appear behind me.

So I have to duck back into the alcove and circle in place to get time to "pass" so they'll close the distance. At the point is all very inelegant, I'm just tossing everything I can at those guys, and as you can see, the first guy I hit with the tossed assault rifle has recovered and has his gun back in hand by the time I toss the bottle I just grabbed at the second guy (lucky for me, his gun goes flying way off, and so he opts to charge me unarmed rather than grab the pistol), but since they're bunched up, he can't get a shot at me and I have time to pick up the last bottle to toss at the third guy.

Then its grab that guys gun as it flies through the air, shoot the pistol guy since he's the most dangerous threat, toss gun at middle guy and start to melee, but since its impossible mode, I'm unable to finish him off before the other guy gets out of stun. So I have to punch that guy to get him to back off so I can get back to finish off the other guy. It helps that the one guy opts to go for the pistol on the ground instead. He's not fast enough though, and I punch him to death.

Serv impossible mode:

I'm not sure if jumping over those desks is any faster than just going around, but I do it anyways. This is one of my favorite levels because of the racks and racks of guns. Its like the time ultimate Bullseye and Punisher fought, and they end up in the room with all the tools and weapons.

Again, one shot per gun really isn't a big deal, because the enemies are all on you that you don't have time to wait for you gun to reload anyways, so you'd already be tossing it and grabbing another gun to fire.

Even more impossible mode Superhot vids.

Jump impossible mode:

An almost perfect run- I freaking missed the pistol toss on the guy coming down the hallway. I mean, I managed to get close enough to punch him and take his gun, but still disappointing that I didn't get it right on the first try.

Shots impossible mode:

Honestly, the fact that you only get one shot per gun makes this easier since you know off the bat you're doing the pistol toss to stun, grab their pistol, shoot, repeat on the next guy.

Desp impossible mode:

As I said in a previous post, the hardest part is after you take out the bartender with his own shotgun. Annoyingly, I toss the empty shotgun at the pistol guy, hoping to grab his pistol, but its nowhere to be found. Which I guess is a good thing, because if I had that pistol, I woulda shot the guy and then try to turn around to face the three guys, which in previous attempts gets me shot by one of them.

Since I have no gun, I'm forced to drop down, melee the guy and duck into the back room, funneling those guys into a nice bottleneck. Of course, despite that, I make mistake after mistake, its honestly luck that I beat it. First, I grab the bottle to toss and stun the guy in the lead so I can have time to grab the bat and finish him off, but as you can see, I freaking miss, breaking it on the corner of the wall. Luckily, I still manage to make it to the bat and kill him before he shoots me.

I toss the bat at the second guy to make him drop his gun before he can shoot, then I grab the first guy's flying gun, but somehow miss (or the bullet is stopped by the exploding bat shrapnel) the second guy. On instinct I toss the gun at the shotgun guy to make him drop his shotgun, and since second guy is still stunned from the bat toss, I manage to melee him and then grab the shotgun to take the last guy out. Its all very ugly, but I still love the fact that despite the mistakes, there was still a whole rhythm to it.

Break In impossible mode:

As I started playing this level, I quickly came to the realization that my normal strategy on this level of tossing bat at first guy, taking his gun, shooting him, charging out the door, shooting rushing unarmed guy, then tossing gun at the pistol guy to stun and take his gun to shoot him wasn't going to fly, because I only had one bullet.

The problem was I could toss the pistol at pistol guy as I came out to get him off my back, but since its impossible mode, I would need to hit unarmed guy 5 times to kill him, at which point pistol guy would have come out of stun, grabbed his gun, and shot me.

Knowing there's a katana behind the window ahead of me, I decided to try something new. I tossed pistol at pistol guy, punched unarmed guy to temporarily stun him, jumped on the shelf, punched the window to get to the katana, sliced up those two guys.

At this point, I got lucky with the draws- guys appear from each of the three doors, with any of the possible weapons, and this run, no one got anything better than a pistol. Though it did help that my shots were accurate. I was in the zone, every katana toss and pistol shot landed, the only time I missed anything was tossing the fireplace poker at the dude in the lab. But I got him when it counted once I had a pistol in my hand.
geebs: (Default)
Heh, sorry for the Superhot video spam as of late, but the game makes it so easy to upload the videos.

Gate Hard Mode:

The hardest part of this level for me is once you kill the first three guys (shotgun guy by the doorway, pistol guy who rushes into the room, rifle guy by the truck through the window) after you hotswitch into the guy I assume they intend for you to hotswitch into.

I mean, the pistol guy who appears outside the door is easy enough, but then you have to deal with three assault rifle guys, one charging towards you and two from across the way. The speed demon in me would toss the shotgun at the pistol guy, grab his pistol, shoot him, toss it at charging assault rifle guy, grabbing the assault rifle, shooting him, ducking behind the wall between the other two assault rifle guys, popping one, and hotswitching into the other to end the level.

The problem is I'm not good/fast enough to do that, one of the assault rifle guys cuts me down before I can finish that sequence. So the less cool way I do it here is draw pistol guy in, toss the shotgun, grab the pistol, shoot him, circle in place like an idiot to get my pistol to reload to pop AR guy as soon as he appears, fart around some more to get my pistol to reload again (I could step into the open and grab the AR and use it, but I find myself eating a bullet from one of the AR guys if I try), then quickly step out the door pop guy on the right and hotswitch into guy in the left. And all that jinking around to get the pistol to reload just seems so inelegant.

Lobby hard mode:

With an assault rifle guy charging towards you and enemies busting through from both sides, the hardest part is surviving the first few seconds. I believe I've mentioned this level before, my preferred method is to charge left pistol guy, cut him down with the katana, then toss the katana at assault rifle guy and going into the room to the left. Of course, my success rate with actually hitting that guy with the tossed katana is maybe 30%. I mean, rushing into the room gives me protection from him if I miss, and him having to follow me in gives me some breathing room, but its not as pretty. And that means I have to cover two directions instead of just one.

Of course, the next step is taking out the guy with the assault rifle in said room. Now, the cool way to do it would be to grab the pistol guy's pistol in the air after tossing the katana and beating assault rifle guy to the punch, but alas, I'm not that smooth, so I hotswitch instead, which as I've said I loathe to do if I don't have to.

If I was ballsy, after hotswitching, I woulda grabbed the katana off the wall, charged back into the lobby, toss the sword at the approaching pistol guy, grabbed the shotgun by the wall and take on all comers. But, I opted to go back for the pistol on the floor instead- I was lucky, the assault rifle guy died right by the opening, so after I take out pistol guy, I'm able to pick it up, making fighting the last three guys that much easier since I don't have to wait on a reload between shots if I were using the pistol or shotgun.

Meeting hard mode:

Now this is one of my favorite levels, and requires some quick improvisation depending on how things play out. The beginning is easy enough, toss phone at first pistol guy, grab his pistol, shoot him, toss pistol at guy behind window in the monitoring station to get him to drop his gun, punch second pistol guy coming out, shoot him with his own pistol, then shoot guy in the room, then quickly round the corner and pop shotgun guy.

This is where things end up varying wildly. Now there's two unarmed guys who will charge you, a pistol guy on the left, and an assault rifle guy on the right. I usually toss the pistol at assault rifle guy to stun him and then grab the shotgun and hopefully take out the two unarmed guys when they bunch up and charge the door.

The problem is things often go wrong with that toss. It hits one of the charging guys, or one of the buildings in the model on the table, or hits the edge of the doorway and careens off in the wrong direction. Which if that happens, my hope is I can take out at least two of the guys as I charge in, toss the shotgun at AR guy to stun him him, jump onto the chair to the left, picking up the shotgun, shooting him and/or pistol guy if he's still alive and hopefully not accidentally shred the assault rifle.

As it is, a different scenario plays out- I manage to stun AR guy, but my shotgun blast only takes out one of the chargers (though it luckily takes out the pistol guy). If I had bigger balls, I'd jump onto the chair, quickly pivot and take the remaining charging guy, before focusing on AR guy. Instead, I back out into the hall, waiting for the shotgun to reload and taking out charging guy as soon as it does. Now, this actually has the added benefit of drawing assault rifle guy out after he grabbed his weapon back.

Since I'm worried about shredding the assault rifle with the shotgun blast, I toss it at him, grab the AR, shoot him, then take out as many guys as I can charging from down the hall. (Annoyingly, I have to duck in and out of cover to "pass" time to get them to spawn and move forward) I eventually run out of ammo, so I toss it at a guy to stun him, back up, grab the shotgun, blast a guy, back up for a reload, shoot the next guy, but since the guy after that is right there, I have no time to wait for another reload.

Toss the shotgun at him to stun, grab the AR that's still in the air from the guy I previously shot, grab it, and take out the remaining guys.

Started up impossible mode, which as I've said, is just hard mode but guns only have one shot.

Corridor impossible mode:

This level is ridiculous, since the bullets move so fast in this mode, you gotta take it nice and easy, carefully dodging until you make your way to the middle to pick up the pistol on the floor. Now you got to shoot and immediately move, because whoever you line up with will shoot you at the same time if you linger for even a millisecond. The annoying thing is since you only have one bullet, you have to dodge the remaining guy some more, because if you toss it from too far, since they're stunned for far less time, he'll easily recover and just grab the pistol of his fallen comrade before you can get to him and now you have to do some more dodging.

So you just got to get close enough to toss so that you can reach him before his stun wears off and then finish him off.

Drop impossible mode:

Now, the trick to this level in this (and fullstop mode for that matter, since that's also only one shot per gun) is knowing there's a pistol right behind you- that way you shoot the guy with his own pistol (after tossing your own pistol at him to stun him), you have another pistol that actually has bullets to use on the pistol guy out there.

Now, the other trick is to know the pistol guy will move a short distance before stopping at the exact same spot every time to try and shoot you. So you just shoot as soon as he hits his mark, don't bother seeing if it hits, because you need to hop over the car and close the distance with the guys who are about to appear and rush out of the doorway on your left. Particularly since they're faster in this mode and you won't have anything to shoot at them with. If you're not already there, with two pistol guys firing at you from different directions, you'll be toast.

So its shoot pistol guy, jump over car, close distance with door guy who comes out in the open, toss pistol, grab pistol, shoot, toss pistol at guy behind pillars, and grab his pistol. Since the angle stinks and the unarmed guy who comes from around the van is a little too close, shoot him, then hop over car to catch up with the now unarmed guy coming from the pillars and melee him to death.

Subway impossible mode:

Nothing to say here, just good old fashioned quick reflexes.

A few more Superhot hard mode vids.

The train station:

I don't know if its because the previous few times I'd played this level was for the various gimmick challenges and wasn't able to shoot, but normally I'd have to use the advertisement board in front of the first assault rifle to block his shots while I got close and then dodge rifle fire until I was close enough to get the gun from him and shoot him with it. So it was weird this time around that I could just shoot him with one of the pistols I got off one of his buddies.

But yeah, also of all the times I've played this level, not sure why I never thought of hotswitching into pistol guy, jumping onto the barrier to punch assault rifle guy and grab the rifle to finish him and the last two guys off. EDIT:Rewatching this vid at 0.25x, that's not what exactly happened. i threw the pistol at assault rifle guy first before hotswitching into pistol guy. THEN I hopped on top of the barrier to grab the rifle and take the last three guys out.

Also, I must've been in zen mode here, because this is the precisest I've been ever been with the assault rifle.

The train:

So, once you drop into the train car, you're always hotswitching into one of those guys at the end. Depending on the mode, I either kill the center guy and then hotswitch into one of the guys in the side and take out the other guy, or if I have no way of killing the center guy from across the way, hotswitch and then take him and other guy out. But for some reason, this is the first time I've grabbed the assault rifle and used it.

I guess maybe its because it sometimes gets shredded by the shotgun blast from that first shotgun you grab before you drop down. Or when I hotswitch into one of the shotgun guys, I immediately punch the other shotgun guy and grab his shotgun, forgetting all about the assault rifle on the ground. So I use it against the guys who appear on the other end, but since its a shotgun, it doesn't have great range, and I end up charging up to them. Grabbing the rifle, I can take out other shotgun guy and the two guys who appear from where I am, and then just turn around and deal with the final guy.

But yeah, look how ugly my shooting with the rifle is compared to the first vid. I basically just spray all over the place, its a miracle I managed to take both the guys at the end out.

More Superhot blather- Slowly making my way through hard mode. Although like I was complaining about the speedrun mode, a lot of it is just doing things perfectly. Using the Elevator level as the example yet again:

I always use elevator mode as the example because its one of the few levels where the enemies armaments are set, and since its so small and short, there's little variation in how it plays out. Other levels you take two steps left, or move one second slower and the level plays out totally differently.

But I digress. Since the enemies aren't as "slowed" and the bullets move faster, you have to run this perfectly. Any slight pause and the enemy will get a bead on you and fire, immediately killing you as soon as you go into real time. So I punch the guy on the left, have to quickly and perfectly move the cursor onto the middle guy- any pause and you get shot in the face. Then I have to continue my rightwards trajectory so the guy on the right can't track me and fire.

And as seen in the video, I got lucky- I punched him at the exact moment he tried to shoot, killing him instantly. Then its all a matter of grabbing one of the flying guns, shooting one of the guys, immediately tossing it at the other guy to stun him long enough to grab the other flying gun and shooting the remaining guy. Then, tossing the pistol at the right shotgun guy as the elevator door opens, immediately jumping to him and perfectly grabbing the shotgun and firing it at the left shotgun guy in one smooth motion, immediately tossing the shotgun at right shotgun guy to stun him and get him off my ass long enough to punch him out with a 5 hit combo.

So like I said, you got to run it perfectly, and hope for a little luck. I mean, I feel I only got past the lab level because after taking out the first three guys, the guy who ended up coming out of the door to your immediate right in that lab room was unarmed, and I managed to draw unarmed, pistol or katana guys for the rest of the fight. Its like, if they don't have a gun, they're as good as dead.

Or the "desp" level (which apparently stands for Desperado's bar?), I tried that level about a dozen times, and when I finally beat it, it was because one enemy acted differently- you start out beating up some guy in a bathroom stall right in front of you, run out the bathroom, take out a guy charging in, then there's a bartender behind a bar with a shotgun. The way I play it, I immediately run forward to put a pillar between me and him, jump on top of the pool table, grabbing a billiard ball as I do and then tossing it to stun him and make him drop his shotgun.

Now, I can blow him away with the shotgun, immediately turn to the guy coming out of the door to the right and take him out by tossing the shotgun at him, grabbing his gun and shooting him, but then with the increased speed, I had been having trouble taking out the three guys behind me before one of them shot me.

The time I finally beat it, the guy after the bartender comes out of the left door way instead (behind the bar is a hallway connected by the two doorways on the left and right) So since I'm standing on the bar with a shotgun in hand, the guy coming out of the door and the bartender running away are close enough to take out with one shotgun blast.

Which gives me enough breathing room because I then move forward towards the left door and off the bar which puts me in an advantageous position, because now I only have to deal with one of the guys behind me, as the pillar and pinball machines cover me from the other two. Indeed, one of the guys on the left takes out the other trying to shoot me. So its all a matter of blasting the one guy on me, and then tossing the shotgun at the remaining guy as soon as he clears the pillar and we can see each other, allowing me to rush up grab his gun and finish him off.

So like I said, passing some of these levels involves a bit of luck.

So beat the katana-only, AD-2013, ghost, full stop, throwing, bare hands, and hotswitch challenges. Bare hands was ostensibly the toughest- I mean, not even being able to throw things to at least stop the enemy from shooting you and being forced to close the distance was tough. While you couldn't use objects in ghost mode either, at least one punch kills. Having to dodge freaking shotgun blasts and rifle fire, and then have to punch the enemy three times in a row is brutal.

Especially when its a group of enemies! Using the elevator level as an example:

There's a lot of having to switch back and forth between enemies, which frustratingly resets the punch counter, but sometimes you have no choice, lest you get punched back or shot in the face when they pick their gun back up. I did notice if you punch a guy at the exact moment he fires, it will auto kill him.

The main thing with hotswitch mode is its really just speedrun mode with the ability to hotswitch from the beginning. In this way its easier than speedrun because its all about using hotswitch to save precious sections. Particularly knowing which guy is last so you can hotswitch into him and end the level. Beat the redtimes on all those.

Not sure if I'll actually try and beat all the redtimes in speedrun and speedrunRT, because those are more about doing things friggin perfectly, and I have no interest in that. The other challenges were fun because they gave you different parameters from the normal gameplay.

There's hard mode, which I played a little of- the main things are enemies take 5 punches to kill if you try to kill them that way, they aren't stunned as long as they normally are, and that the time dilation isn't as slow. Beating that unlocks impossible mode, which is the same, but guns only have one round. Which isn't that impossible, half the time I just shoot once and toss anyways. I might try to finish both those.

I believe the last thing to unlock is the norestart mode, which you try to go through all the levels without dying. And again, that's no fun to me, because its more about doing things perfect. Like one small misstep, and you could be totally effed.

And sometimes you owe things to luck- like enemies who's weapons are randomly set show up barehanded or with a melee weapon or pistol instead of a freaking shotgun or assault rifle. You could do the first few levels perfectly, get a terrible draw, and have to start from square one. I have no desire to test myself that way.

TV commentary:

Rick and Morty- You know, I wasn't sure why people were so egg-cited for Pickle Rick, but that ep ended up being freaking awesome.

Unlocked all the endless levels and "beat" them. i.e. ranked on all of them. Its interesting the little idiosyncrasies that go with the levels in respect to the different endless modes. Like the 60 seconds of real time mode on the bigger levels, can be low scoring simply because you don't see enough enemies before time runs out.

Like I found the first level, the lab, the toughest to get to 20 kills for that mode. The short levels like stairs, lobby, and break-in, sure you have a lot of enemies on you, but since there's so many coming at you, its easy to get to 20 pretty quickly because they keep on coming at you. And since they're small its easy to keep track of things.

The larger levels like bridge, hall, warehouse, and power plant, its big enough that you get some breathing room. Its the medium sized levels that are tough because its just big enough that you can miss an enemy who ends up shooting you in the back. And at least office has the high cubicle walls that offer some protection.

Heh, I have played long enough to get the requisite 100 kills with each type of weapon for the trophies. I also got the skewer two baddies with a single katana throw, and kill three guys with one assault rifle burst, but I still haven't been able to get three guys with the shotgun. Like there were plenty of times where they were grouped close enough that I swear I shoulda gotten three kills, but one keeps narrowly escaping.

TV commentary:

Voltron- Ah, this new season was amazing! The first season seemed far too short, the second we got some more answers, but you were still left wanting. But man, this third, lots of HUGE reveals that are mindblowing!

We finally get Lotor, and this version of him is awesome, as his girl-squad. spoilers )

Beat all the levels in the katana only challenge. Man, some of those levels are brutal when you can't shoot, forcing you to get creative:

So basically, I drop down, toss the katana at the guy with the assault rifle, hot switch into the guy to his right, grabbing the sword right as it kills assault rifle guy, then quickly using it to kill other shotgun guy. Then, I have to book it to the other end of the car, toss the katana into shotgun guy, somehow manage to quickly move into the car without getting shot by pistol guy, grab my sword from the floor and kill him. Then I end it by hotswitching into the guy at the end with the assault rifle.

I loathe beating the last guy that way though, it seems cheap to beat a level by hotswitching into the last guy. Also I am shocked the pistol guy never fires off a shot before I'm able to grab the sword and kill him.

Then again, I've learned you are deceptively fast, take the dreaded elevator level for example:

I'm shocked that I'm actually able to kill all three guys in the elevator before they get off a shot, and then quickly rush out and kill the two shotgun guys before they shoot also. Also, its kinda funny seeing these clips in real time and seeing how little time actually elapses when you're not experiencing time dilation.

Anyways, the other challenges I've unlocked so far are interesting:

-AD2013: the description says play the game like its 2013, which has me wondering if there was an earlier version of this game. Anyways, punches auto-kill, but there's no melee weapons and no "throwables". Not sure what the latter exactly means though, because I had actually misread the parameters and though all you could do was punch, I only realized you could still use guns after a few levels. So I dunno if you can at least toss guns, or only once you're out.

-Ghost: Another one where melee punches are auto-kill. You can hotswitch from the very beginning, but can't use guns.

-Hotswitch: You can just hotswitch from the beginning.

-Fullstop: Time actually stops when you're not moving. However, enemies bullets move faster, and any gun you pick up only has one shot.

-Throwing: You can't shoot, but tossing a weapon is automatically lethal. Also, it takes 5 punches to take out an enemy instead of 3.

-Bare hands: All you can do is punch, you can't pick up weapons. And unlike ghost or AD2013, you still need 3 punches to kill an enemy.

There are some other challenge mods I haven't unlocked yet. But there's also endless mode, which as I've mentioned before is you're dropped in a specifically designed area, and you just play until you die. Enough kills unlocks three other modes for a specific area. There's a timed mode where you see how quickly you can kill 20 guys. There's one where you see how many you can kill in 20 seconds of game time (i.e., the time that elapses when you actually move), and one where you can see how many you can kill in 60 seconds of real time.

So yeah, several arenas x four modes, plus all the challenges, there's tons to do in this game once you beat it. Well, if you're someone who just likes mindless killing.

Been playing the various Superhot special modes. Its funny how some of the levels are no big deal for the katana only challenge, while others are brutal. Mostly ones where you have assault rifle or shotgun guys starting a ways away and having to weave through the hail of bullets. Melee only is sure to be even more brutal since the katana at least has a deceptive range to it.

There's also endless mode, where they toss you in a room and you just see how many you can kill before you die. Alas, my record so far is only a paltry 21.

Teen Wolf- Wait, is she no longer on the show either? spoiler cut )

More Superhot blather- Finally beat the game today. Which, how the frick did I go through this entire game not knowing you could jump!? But more on that later.

So, I actually hadn't gotten to the body switching mechanic since my last post. I think I remember [personal profile] clevemire mentioning it was a thing (and that switching bodies, the person who's body you go into automatically destroys their weapon) but temporarily forgot.

Its an interesting idea, but I don't think they do enough with it. I mean, since the weapon the body is holding is destroyed when you jump into it, you can't use it to like jump into the guy with the assault rifle behind the other dudes and gun them down. Which I would think is the main appeal of body jumping, quickly getting a weapon you want and surprising the enemy with it.

I would think the other use for it is to bypass certain obstacles, but other than the time the mechanic is first introduced where you have to hijack another body since you're about to fall to your death, there weren't any levels where you HAD to jump bodies to progress. Like I can only think of two levels where I utilized the body jump thing, but I'm not sure it was necessary.

One was a level where you start off with the katana and there's a guy on you with an assault rifle, and two guys on either side of you busting through glass doors. Like it seems like there's too many on you at once that you need to body swap, but I think the level can be done without it. I mean, I ended up cutting the guy on the left down with the katana, and then jumped into assault rifle guy to get some breathing room. But my unsuccessful tries, I cut left fuy down and made it into that alcove, and honestly, I'm sure if I really tried I could kill everyone without having to body jump.

The other level you start off on top of a truck and the thing to do seems to jump into a guy you see in what I assume is supposed to be a guard station, and grab the shotgun off the table next to him, and then go from there. I bet I could just jump on the guard below me and playing it smart, take out everyone without having to have body swapped.

Like, if they were going to have this mechanic, you'd think they'd do stuff where like you could only progress by body jumping to a guy on the other side of a locked gate so you could move on.

But yeah, getting back to actual jumping, I mean, I guess there were no levels where I needed to jump, but when I was looking into these secrets buried in the levels, many of them necessitated jumping. Like in the very first level, I heard the way to the secret is to jump off the railing to the floor below to find a computer terminal. And I was like, how the hell do you jump off the railing? I was expecting some gap that I could just fall through, I didn't realize you could jump over the railing by pressing L2.

Anyways, those secrets are bullshit, there's no way anybody could find them on their own, and anyone says so is an effing liar. I mean, it already requires leaving one guy alive so the level doesn't end, and if you can destroying all the weapons so he doesn't shoot you in the back while you're fooling around. So that makes it difficult to explore on your own.

But yeah, like the first level, you might notice a floor below and get the idea to jump the railing. Or the second, notice the objects next to the building make a convenient jumping stairway to get to the roof. So maybe, if you manage to get the last red guy off your back, you might have time to check it out if you didn't know something was there beforehand.

The third one though, the one where you're in a hall, and there's two guys shooting you at the end. You normally take it slow, dodging their bullets until you can make it to the pistol in the middle of the hall to grab it and shoot them. Now, knowing that levels have secrets, you may elect to kill one, throw your pistol at the other. Then grabbing the dead guy's pistol and throwing that at the bad guy so he's stunned again and can't pick up the pistol he just dropped (or if he picked it up, cause him to drop it again), then pick up THAT pistol, and throw that at him, destroying all the handguns so you don't have to worry about being shot at.

At that point, you only have to worry about the guy punching you, so you can jump through the open window at the end next to the two shooters. After that though, it doesn't seem like there's anywhere to go, so you have to somehow guess that you need to jump off the ledge, but immediately move right so as to go through the wall to the secret corridor.

And its like, how the hell are you supposed to know that on your own?! Actually the second level secret is like that too. You make it onto the roof in order to drop down to a narrow ledge behind the building that you normally can't get to. The ledge leads to a dead end, and you're supposed to somehow know to jump off the end but then pivot in mid air to get around the wall where the ledge ends. Again, how is someone supposed to figure that out on their own?!

If you have a secret in a game, it should at least be something you could possibly figure out on your own without help from a faq. Though I guess someone who is exploratory minded might jump around ledges and try to jump through walls to see if they're fake or not. But who does that on their own?

Anyways, the "secrets" so far are computer terminals that you interact with to open up a chat with the mysterious red text guy and ask questions which I guess enlighten you about things.

More Superhot blather- One interesting thing I find about this game is, because time only moves when you move, there's this urge to take things slow and deliberate. Which is definitely necessary in some situations, like when you start with several enemies right on you.

Like there are times where I think, okay, some guys with assault rifles pop up here, I need to be careful and take things slowly to make sure I don't get shredded in a hail of bullets. But I've come to realize I'm actually faster than I think, and can easily run into cover ahead before they even start firing.

So really, the pace changes on the fly. Because sometimes you can just grab a sword and quickly rush in and cut a bunch of guys down without really utilizing the time stop feature. But you definitely can't do that all the time, because the game has a knack for having enemies appear behind you. So you always have to keep stock of your surrounding and not make sudden movements if you're unaware lest you eat a stray bullet.

As I said in a previous post, while there are slight variations in the enemy armaments sometimes, they more of less show up in the same spots. So if you know what's coming, you can adjust your speed on the fly. Which, I kinda like that staccato like pace, slow deliberate movements interspersed with quick dervishes of death.

Heh, there are some interesting trophies in this one, which I'll have to strive to get after I beat them. Some I've gotten accidentally- "Its Me, Mario!" is a trophy for killing a guy by landing on them. I was just trying to land behind the one guy and then hit him and take his gun, but I landed on him, netting the trophy. Another, I'm not sure how I got it, but was most definitely random is shooting a bullet out of the air.

I know there's one for taking down two guys at once with a thrown katana, one for cutting a bullet out of the air with the katana, and one for taking out three guys with one shotgun blast. Haven't had a situation where the bad guys were lined up for the last one- like I'll get two, but trying to wait for a third to get in range gets me killed. I'm sure there's some scenario where its easy to pick this one up.
geebs: (Default)
Playing Superhot some more, I'm starting to get the hang of it. Despite the time slowdown, you can sometimes paint yourself into a corner and be totally effed- particularly if you have too many enemies on you at once. Then you get into a situation where there's no where to move to dodge. And occasionally I don't see the trajectory of the incoming bullet right and dodge wrong.

Like sometimes the natural inclination is to continue dodging in the same direction, but since the enemy continues to aim at you, zig-zagging back and forth seems to yield better results.

Also, I've noticed that sometimes its quicker to toss your current gun at a baddie and grab theirs instead of waiting for it to reload. Which does make for dynamic combat scenarios. I like that things aren't set. Like the opening scenario seems to always be the same, and the baddies appear in the same places, but they can end up wielding different weapons. So its not always a matter of following a script and replaying the scenario until you get it exactly right, since one time they might show up shooting you with a shotgun, other times they'll come at you with a katana. So you react differently, which in turn causes the bad guys to act differently.

Of course, the more annoying thing is I looked at a faq to see if there was anything to those various menu options, and learned there are secrets in every level. So you're apparently not supposed to kill everyone until you find a computer terminal you can interact with.

Argh, sounds like I'll have to beat the game to unlock level select to replay those levels. Not that I mind, its a fun game.
