Saw this Hollywood Movie Dance Tribute the other day but forgot to post about it:

Basically, its a supercut of "dance" scenes throughout all of movies, set to both versions of Safety Dance, with the Turk-Carla Safety Dance convo about their future kid from Scrubs thrown in at the end.

Its pretty amusing, though they seem to have a very loose interpretation of "dance scene" if they include Michael Madsen from Reservoir Dogs as he gets ready to torture that one guy to "Stuck In the Middle With You" and Malcolm Mcdowell and the Droogs getting ready to trash that house they broke into (and cause other unspeakable Mayhem).

Someone did a tribute like this before, but so many more movies with dances came out since then, like Black Swan, Silver Linings Playbook, and the Footloose remake (not to mention more step up movies!). But it still has my all time favorite "people randomly bursting into dance" scene, the one from 500 Days of Summer set to "You Make My Dreams" by Hall and Oates.

Heh, [livejournal.com profile] isabel79 saw POTO this weekend, and I'm amused that given the number of times she's seen it, I have not been there for any of them! But given I saw Wicked this weekend, it had me wondering how many musical soundtracks did I have that I haven't actually seen the musical for:

-Avenue Q
-Jersey Boys
-Priscilla, Queen of the Desert
-Spring Awakening

Hey, only four. Hopefully I'll see Priscilla one of the time I'm up in NYC later this year. And I think Avenue Q is still showing on Broadway. But alas, I don't think there's any chance to see Spring Awakening. Though I don't actually have that big an interest in seeing Jersey Boys.

I at least have seen the movie versions of:

-Annie (though i have the music from the remake with Victor Garber, not the original movie)
-Godspell (hey, its back on Broadway! There's this one Disney Flip chick on it. Which is the extent of what I know about this new version)
-Hairspray
-Jesus Christ Superstar
-Little Shop of Horrors (though I hardly remember it)
-Phantom of the Opera (I recently replaced the movie soundtrack version on my ipod with the original cast recording)

But like Spring Awakening, I don't think there's a way to see the stage production versions of some of those anymore.

And the ones where i've seen the actual musical and the movie (if there was one):

-Mamma Mia! (surprisingly, I only have a couple of songs from the actual play, but that's because I already have a lot of Abba on my ipod)
-Rent (its the movie version soundtrack on my ipod, though I do have a song or two from the original cast recording.)
-Rock of Ages
-Wicked

So I guess I have a decent number of Musicals on my ipod. Of course, there's also music from musical movies:

-Across the Universe (it still annoys me that the version of "All You Need" is love on the soundtrack doesn't have the "He loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah" in the background at the end- they had it in the movie, and in the original song! Its total BS!)
-Bandslam (And you can be sure I'll be getting the soundtrack to Joyful Noise when that comes out)
-Burlesque
-Camp Rock
-Camp Rock 2
-Dr. Horrible's Singalong Blog
-Enchanted (I wasn't sure if I should count this and not other Disney movies, otherwise I'd have to add Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, and the Little Mermaid)
-HSM
-Lemonade Mouth

And then if we go to songs from TV shows, I do have every song ever done on Glee (that was released) plus songs from the soundtracks to the musical themed episodes of Buffy, Grey's Anatomy, and Scrubs. Plus, released songs from American Dad, HIMYM, Pushing Daisies (I'm annoyed they never released Chenoweth's version of "Eternal Flame") , Ruby and the Rockets, and Victorious.

Despite all this though, I still think the majority of my music is actual music that gets played on the radio.

TV commentary:

Human Target- So this show is getting somewhat interesting. And cool, is Autumn Reeser's Layla going to be a recurring character now that she's joined their team? Always glad to see her in stuff. spoiler cut )

Scrubs- So, I hear last night's Scrubs season finale could be the finale finale? Not that they didn't already have one. Anyways, I'm curious is "cadaver thank you day" or whatever they called it a real thing? That seems so weird! I mean, inviting the families of people donated as cadavers for medical students and having the students talking about how big a help it was to their education? On the one hand, that seems morbid and insane, but I can also see how they might want to show appreciation to the families for such a donation.

90210- Wait, Ashley from SoN was Gia's ex? I totally didn't recognize her last week. Is she a lesbian in real life? I guess just because someone plays multiple lesbos doesn't mean they are. I mean, Emmanuelle Chriqui and Olivia Wilde have played lesbians on multiple things, but I think they're straight. Or Mia Kirshner. Actually, I think she plays a lot of bisexuals. Though I didn't watch the L-word, which was she on that? I also forgot they had Julianna Guill playing Teddy's sister. Is it me, or does she have an amazing rack?

spoiler cut )

South Park- Pretty hilarious ep. I saw this online, so what was particularly funny was that one of the commercials was one of those new line of Axe commercials where they show you a hot chick or several and then they ask you her name (which was either mentioned or shown on screen), and of course the point is you don't know because you were staring at the hot chick. I blame the alien wizards! (or is it wizard aliens?) But really, I've seen the commercial before, so I don't think it was an intentional pairing, but it is hilarious that it worked out that way.

SVU- Diora Baird, while a hot, big breasted red-head who played a hapless victim in a reboot of a classic horror movie franchise like the aforementioned Julianna Guill (with Diora being in the prequel to the Texas Chainsaw Massacre reboot and Julianna showing her goodies in the Friday the 13th reboot), she's kinda a blah actress. Though I guess she was well suited to the role of histrionic hot chick.spoiler cut )

Heh, randomly perusing through youtube the other day, found clips from one of Donnie Yen's latest movies, "Ip Man", based on the life of Bruce Lee's Wing Chun teacher. I think my favorite fights are this one against 10 black belts, and the end fight. One thing I've always found cool about Wing Chun is just the endless flow of traps to strikes, being able to chain them together so easily in a kinda graceful, vicious dance of blows. I mean, if you study the physics of it, its efficiency and beauty coming together, the way the practicioners' strikes elegantly flow through the opponent's defenses, utilizing economy of motion to maximize the power of the blows while simultaneously nullifying/avoiding the opponent's attacks. Poetry in motion? I think it is!

I think my favorite move of his in this movie are those times where he just does those rapid fire punches like a dozen times in really quick succession. Its just awesomely brutal and also kinda hilarious! (Jeez, and I wonder why people think I'm a sociopath) But really, between punching guys a jillion times in the span of a few seconds, and kicking a guy a jillion times in rapid succession in Iron Monkey, the guy's got speed.

TV commentary:

Lost- the penultimate ep before the season finale, and things are definitely still interesting. spoiler cut )

Scrubs- Ah, it was also the series finale of Scrubs. Not a bad ending, a little schmaltzy, but Scrubs was always a little schmaltzy.

Argh, I watched the Glee promos one to many times, so now I have "Don't Stop Believin'" stuck in my head. Owel, at least now I no longer have "Hoedown Throwdown" earwormed. Thank goodness "boom boom clap, boom de clap de clap" isn't echoing in my head anymore. And what the hell does "country-fyin' hip hop hip" even mean?! But anyways, enough about that chick and her stupid song (though what's with all these "aspiring singer-songwriter" teenies on youtube doing "The Climb" as of late?), ah can't wait for this show to come out!

Interesting, I didn't realize the whole "What's the difference between peanut butter and jam?" joke from this past Monday's HIMYM was a real joke. I figured it was just one of those "insert your own punchline here" things, because the reality wouldn't live up to SagetTed's "the dirtiest joke he ever heard claim". And the reality doesn't, given this is the actual punchline: under the cut )

Anyhoo, what the hell was up with Scrubs being pre-empted in Atlanta for a special on Digital Conversion. Seriously, they needed to pre-empt a new ep for that?! WTF?! What is there to get? But, luckily, it was online the next morning.

TV Commentary:

Scrubs- Okay, I was trying to figure out the song Ted was playing there at the end, because it sounded so familiar. And then it became obvious he was doing an acoustic guitar cover version of Outkast's "Hey Ya"! Awesome! As awesome as the Joshua Radin cover of the Sesame Street theme from the original first ep of this current season that they ended up showing 5th or whatever. Anyways, Ted's version is almost the same as Obadiah Parker's version. And cool, Joshua Radin finally put up his version of version of Sesame Street on his Myspace.

Went to Houston's for pre-Lost dinner last night with [livejournal.com profile] phatjoe, [livejournal.com profile] clevemire and C-note. Weird, when I was going in, Thievery Corporation's "Lebanese Blonde" was playing on their speaker system, then some time during dinner they were playing Zero 7's "In The Waiting Line". So I was wondering if they were playing the Garden State soundtrack or something, otherwise that's a bit of a coincidence.

TV Commentary:

Scrubs- Is it me, is Jo the most interesting of the new interns (and I'm not just saying that because she's the cutest as well)? spoiler cut )

So the roomie's friends, the CKs (I assume the mrs. is also a C, but I know her name isn't spelled the way its pronounced) were passing through and joined the usual suspects for pre-Lost dinner. Relink! [livejournal.com profile] clevemire posted this in the comments section of my last post. But those of you who didn't read those comments (as it would reveal the answer), looking at the pic in that link, 1) would you think they were in costume had you not known they were cosplaying and 2) what characters do you think they are supposed to be? I don't think its ojv('Man, its obvious!') as he claims.

Ah, and the roomie figured out what that whole white powder thing was the other day. It has something to do with the Hash House Harriers? The about page calls it a mixture of "hedonism and hard work". And I suppose all hedonism really means is seeking pleasure as your main goal in life, but I'm guessing they have a totally different definition of hedonism than I do.

Privileged- Ah, so according to the promos for the next ep, its the season finale? I guess they do have to make room for Reaper when it returns. Speaking of, I guess Scrubs is moving to Wednesdays come March? That's good. There's nothing on Wednesday's but Lost, so I'm glad something is moving off the Monday/Tuesdays of TV watching insanity. spoiler cut )

Getting out of the cut, which me is more insufferable, the lame, corny one into crap like that scene and shipping in general (tho I don't really ship that particular couple) who likes dramadies, romantic comedies, and shoujo, as well as musicals, the geeky one who geeks out about guns (or weapons in general, mainly anything that can fire a projectile or carries an edge) and cars and video games and rpgs and military stuff, or the slightly pervo freak into somewhat questionable things?

Oh, and getting back to music on Scrubs. I was thinking about songs in my play queue, and how many came to my attention because I heard them on some show I watch. And I think the main shows I've done that with are Scrubs, House, the OC, and Gossip Girl. And I guess Swingtown did remind me of a lot of great classics.

Wait, C&C Red Alert 3 and its expansion features the largest Hollywood cast ever to appear in a video game?! I guess there are a lot of famous (or at least geebs "famous") names in the imdb credits. Heh, I did not know the Hoff was in this. Oh, but I just heard the expansion includes, Malcolm Mcdowell, that Samurai Girl chick, and Ric Flair?! Ha, that's awesome! Well, only if he goes into one of his insane rants and raves and says "Wooooo!" and talks about taking people for a ride on Space Mountain.

Heh, on the way to work, passing by the abortion protestors over at Governor's Ridge (I guess there must be a clinic in that complex, which is the same place I took my CCNA exam) one of them had an amusing sign that read "Be like Juno!"

What's with all the TV last night? NCIS, 90210, Privileged, 2 eps of Scrubs (now on ABC!), SVU, and Nip/Tuck. Thank goodness there weren't any new eps of House or Fringe. I only caught the CW stuff plus Scrubs and Nip/Tuck.

Oh, on the way to Junior's for breakfast, The Real Mccoy's "Sleeping With an Angel" came on the mp3 player, which I've said before will always be burned in my mind as the song that mad cute brunette chick danced to at the first strip club I ever went to. One thing I've never mentioned though is that she would leave her vest on (albiet opened). Which is kinda weird, because its not like its a costume, and the other chyx there took off everything. Mebbe she had like hideous scars on her back or something that she wanted to hide. I guess only D would possibly know.

Thursday night TV commentary:

Scrubs- That was the last episode?! It was kinda a silly/cheery ep, but then the last line made it a downer. And it seemed out of order with the rest of the season! I guess it was the last ep filmed before the strike, and since NBC is wanting to be rid of it, they had no choice but to have this as the season finale. So its supposed to be coming back next season on ABC? But apparently most people don't know this? Owel, hopefully next season they can end it the way they want it to.

Ah, its the first of NBC's "Comedy Night Done Right" (that doesn't have as good a ring to it as "Must See TV" had). So, Thursday night TV commentary:

My Name is Earl: I dunno, the roomie's not into the whole "fake classic sitcom in Earl's coma head" thing, but I have to hand it to the writers, they do seem to come up with concepts to keep things on the show changed up. I mean, they coulda just stuck with the whole Earl does a good deed a week thing, but first the Prison thing, now this, I think its an interesting way to keep it refreshing.

30 Rock: I don't know why I found the whole Cathy joke hilarious, but I did. Alas, the MILFs weren't as hot as they could be. But Cerie is still frickin' hot, so that makes up for it, I guess.

The Office: cut for spoilers )

Scrubs: cut for spoilers )

Oh, ha, they actually do have rateyourdoc.org set up. The staff listing is interesting. I'm amused they included Masi Oka's character, but I guess since he's famous because of Heroes now they threw him in there even though I can't even remember the last Scrubs ep he was on. Ah, and they have bios. 1) I didn't realize Lloyd was an ambulance driver. Well, if they mentioned it, I forgot. Ha, I thought he was like a delivery man or something, but I guess a Fed Ex guy wouldn't be hanging out at the hospital all the time. And 2) I did not realize Colonel Doctor is his dad. Again, if there was an ep that revealed that, I forgot.

It sucks that Office is dunzo during this strike, but the repeats are still amusing. As much as I loved Friends and Seinfeld, I want to say that the current Thursday night comedy line up is vastly superior to Must See TV. I mean, Friends and Seinfeld were both awesome, but the other two shows in that 2 hour block were forgettable. I mean, how many shows did they have go through that 830 slot? Boston Commons and The Single Guy are the only ones popping into my head right now, but I'm sure there were more. Was Veronica's Closet in that time slot? What was the fourth show on Must See TV Thursdays? I wanna say it was something that was popular that I didn't watch like Will and Grace or something.

But Earl, The Office, 30 Rock, and Scrubs are all hilarious. 30 Rock definitely gets more awesome every time I see it. It didn't interest me when it first came out, but I'm definitely pleased with the show now.
geebs: (Default)
So, [livejournal.com profile] clevemire reminded me of a few more shows I forgot, so my estimate is up to 51 shows. Of course, a lot of those shows weren't on the same time. Though I guess I also do reviews/commentaries on LJ for a lot of them, so that's still a lot of hours spent.

Hmm, weird, I didn't realize Keri Russell was guesting on this week's Scrubs. I was just talking about her with the usual suspects, I guess after Hot Fuzz, since she figured prominently in one of the movie posters. I think I prefer mostly straight/kinda wavy haired Keri over her traditional freshman year Felicity curly locks. I'd do a poll, but that would entail finding good pictures of both dos and posting them and all that jazz, and I'm just too lazy today. Anyways, I think she's still looking good, though is she more chesty nowadays?

Finally watched the rest of Thursday night tv. A Scrubs musical ep? Awesome. Though some of the songs did sound off. Once More With Feeling is still the bar to measure TV musical eps to.

The Office )

And the Taco Bell Grilled Stuft Burrito commercials with Carmen Electra and that chick from 7th Heaven (or supposedly she is from my research on the matter, though she looks a little like Shiri Appleby which is why I thought she looked familiar) confuse the hell out of me. I mean, they can't have both happenned! In one, his friends don't believe he ever dated Carmen Electra and in the other one, they don't believe he's going out on a bowling date with her. If the bowling one came first, then they know for a fact that he once dated Carmen Electra. If the "I used to date Carmen Electra" one came first, then they shouldn't be skeptical that he's going bowling with her, because he's dated her before! Yes, I think about extremely stupid things. But it does not make cents!!
