So, this is slightly early, since last year's list was posted only 9 months ago, according to the time stamps on LJ and tumblr. But I think I made the comment that when I released that list, it wasn't an ideal time. May-July is a good time, because one has had several months to ruminate on the hotness of TV actresses as you have a whole TV season to go by, and all the hotties in the upcoming summer movies have most likely been getting a push for the past couple of months as well. Its too hard to come up with a top 100, so screw it, I'm limiting it to a top 25 for 2012: (links go to their chickapedia entries)

1) Odette Annable- honestly, I just feel she would be the result if Megan Fox and Jessica Alba had a love child (and who wouldn't want to see them try and do that)

2) Nina Dobrev- she's got a really cute face and a smoking hot body. Nuff said.

3) Karen Gillan- One of the hottest (if not the hottest) redheads on the planet. The hot Scottish accent is just gravy. No offense to Christina Hendricks (who is still in my top 25), but my tastes still tend towards the petite.

Yeah, I know, the same top 3 as last year, only slightly reordered. But at least the rest of the list, there are people who weren't on here last year, and some significant movement on some of the ladies (up and down).

4) Katrina Bowden- She was voted Esquire's sexiest woman alive for 2011, and with good reason!

5) Emma Stone- Granted, her making it into the top 5 may have been heavily Spiderman influenced, but like I said, I really liked her look in this. The only thing that would make it perfect would be if she had glasses. And maybe the red hair.

6) Ashley Greene- I think I made this comment last time as well, but has she done anything besides the Twilight movies? I mean, I've seen most of the first, and maybe the last half of the third, but I haven't actually seen her all that much in stuff. Other than photo shoots I guess.

7) Alison Brie- You know my penchant for blue eyed brunettes (although is it really a penchant if she's the only one in the top 10? Olivia Wilde doesn't count because she's actually a natural blond) All the "bouncy" gifs help. And the fact she sings. And plays a neurotic brunette on TV and is part of one of my current favorite TV ships.

8) Naya Rivera- Lesbians apparently dig her (if her being #1 on the AfterEllen Hot 100 list is any indication), and so do I.

9) Olivia Wilde- Seriously, she has just got the tightest little body on her.

10) Victoria Justice- She's really coming into her hotness after turning legal last year.

11) Kate Beckinsale- Heh, you know, I think she may be the oldest chick on this list.

12) Amy Acker- I'm still curious why she's not more famous. She's a good actress, and like super pretty. I mean, she gets consistent work on TV and was recently in the Cabin in the Woods, but she was prolly only in that because of Whedon.

13) Evangeline Lilly- Its disappointing she's not in more stuff being all hot.

14) Leighton Meester- Again, hot neurotic brunette on a TV show I like. Or used to like, I'm still angry over that Dair stuff. But I digress, she has the doe-iest doe eyes.

15) Dianna Agron- The short hair was good on her this year. Especially when it was dyed pink.

16) Anna Kendrick- I just find her everyday cute. The singing helps, and you know I'm seeing Pitch Perfect in the theater. And buying the soundtrack.

17) Sarah Shahi- It took Fairly Legal to remind me how hott she is.

18) Aimee Teegarden- You know, I haven't actually seen her in anything since FNL, unless you count commercials for movies. I just think she's a pretty girl.

19) Anna Silk- Hey, she was a pretty good casting choice to play a hot succubus.

20) Mila Kunis- She's cool as hell, and hot to boot. Just gorgeous and funny.

21) Jessica Biel- I've said it before, but the Total Recall remake already has one thing going for it, it has hotter chicks in the female roles, between Jessica and Kate Beckinsale.

22) Krysten Ritter- I've actually found her strangely attractive since Veronica Mars, but she looks good in Don't Trust the B.

23) Christina Hendricks- The epitome of the voluptuous bombshell, I think.

24) Vanessa Hudgens- She was notably absent from last year's list (I have my reasons), but she's back on after prancing around in all those tiny bikinis for Spring Breakers.

25) Emma Watson- Whatever, Hermione is hot. I also like her pixie-ish do in the upcoming "The Perks of Being a Wallflower". And how slutty she looks in the upcoming "Bling Ring". (I did make two photosets of it on tumblr)

Some of you may be wondering, why aren't X or Y on here, because it does seem like there are some notable omissions. And there are superficial reasons for the exclusion of some chicks, which whatever, this is a list of my top 25 favorite celeb hotties, its supposed to be superficial. Like I've actually been slowly getting turned off Megan Fox for a while now, and BAG knocking her up sealed it. And Anne Hathaway does look hot as Catwoman, but then she hacked off all her hair for Les Miserables.

So After Ellen's Hot 100 for 2012 is out. And unsurprisingly the top 10 has Emily from PLL, Arizona and Callie from Grey's and most of Faberritana from Glee (Lea Michele is at 11).

Their top 10: (couldn't they have put just a list of all 100 without having to scroll through the gallery?)

10) Abisha Uhl (who?)
9) Tucky Williams (who?)
8) Olivia Wilde
7) Callie
6) Arizona
5) Emily
4) Tegan (of Tegan and Sara)
3) Brittany
2) Quinn
1) Santana

Since they don't have it in a convenient format, here's some familiar names and where they place within the top 50:

49) Megan Fox
44) Charlize Theron
38) Tina Fey
37) Lucy Lawless
36) Ellen Page
34) Sarah Shahi
33) Kate Winslet
32) Emma Stone
25) Jennifer Lawrence
24) Emma Watson
21) Lena Heady
20) Mila Kunis
18) Anna Silk
17) Anna Torv
14) K-Stew
12) Amber Heard

So the DW/SW popularity poll I posted about yesterday inspired me to make some lists of my own. I don't think I could end up doing a top 10 DW characters list, because it would end up being mostly Wei, so to be fair, I'll do a top 5 in each faction:

Wei
1) Xu Huang- I've always loved his character design, I guess its the hood, and he's a bad-ass to boot.
2)Xiahou Dun- he just oozes bad-assedness. I've always been a fan of his character design, but I especially love the move to the long coat in DW6/7.
3) Wang Yi- by far the baddest ass chick in the DW series.
4) Zhang Liao- Another bad-ass. Am I sensing a theme here? Anyhoo, his halberd moveset in the previous games was great, but he really shines with the twin axes now.
5) Cao Pi- by far the most awesome of the "leaders". I love his arrogant attitude, and I've always loved his twin sword move set.

(Actually I just like the Wei too much, so I'll do top 10)

6) Jia Xu- He's just such a great character design, I like the Arabian/Ninja look and the assassin feel to him. (I especially love his Assassin's Creed DLC costume in DW7 as well)
7) Zhang He- He's got speed and style, and I love his desire to add a tinge of grace and beauty to the slaughter of opponents.
8) Dian Wei- This guy is just a beast!
9) Zhen Ji- Cao Pi's better half, making them the best couple in both series. She's hot and I love her attitude, she and Cao Pi suit each other.
10) Cao Ren- I just love his dwarven warrior feel.

Wu:
1) Zhou Tai- Its a dude in black and red armor who uses a katana in the iai-jutsu style, you would expect someone else as number one?
2) Gan Ning- If there was no Zhou Tai, he'd obviously be the baddest ass of the Wu. He just has an awesome look and personality.
3) Lu Xun- He's young, but I've always like his character design and his moveset. Especially what they did with it in WO3.
4) Ling Tong- Gan Ning's frenemy/partner in crime. Both are great warriors in their own right, but together they're even more awesome.
5) Ding Feng- I love his look, his mix of wrestling and throwing bombs moveset is fun as hell, and he warrior poet personality is great.

Shu:
1) (tie) Ma Chao and Zhao Yun- I struggled over which one to put over the other, but I like them both too much. They both have great designs and movesets, and by far my favorite Shu to play.
2) Guan Ping- The epitome of the young warrior seeking to prove himself and live up to the lofty standards set up by his dad. Alas, his DW7 moveset isn't as great as his original one.
3) Wei Yan- I love the whole beastman thing and his almost berserker fighting style is great!
4) Yue Ying- I'm not a fan of the changes they've made with her since DW6. But thankfully, her old armored costume is available, and she's back to using her scythe in WO3.
5) Xing Cai- Great character design, and I always like her and Guan Ping as the children of two of Shu's previous bad-assses, Guan Yu and Zhang Fei.

Jin/Other:- (There just weren't enough in either faction to make a decent top 5, so I combined them)
1) Lu Bu- The baddest of the bad.
2) Zhong Hui- I just love his design and totally arrogant personality.
3) Wang Yuanji- The hottest of the DW girls, and a bad-ass with the throwing knives.
4) Xiahou Ba- The armored knight thing he has going is great. And his special in WO3, the super speed boost is just too awesome.
5) Diao Chan- The hottest DW girl until Wang Yuanji showed up.

Samurai Warriors:

1) Kojiro Sasaki- I love everything about this guy, his character design, his moves, his personality. He's the best swordsman after Musashi, but revels in the killing.
2) Mitsuhide Akechi- He's just the epitome of the traditional bad-ass samurai. Again, great looking design, and his moveset is phenomenal.
3) Muneshige Tachibana- the best addition from SW3. I love the heroic knight thing he has going, and his moveset is great!
4) Ginchiyo Tachibana- Muneshige's wife, and the baddest ass chick in SW, and the baddest in either series until Wang Yi came along. Like her husband, she has a great all-around moveset.
5) Keiji Maeda- The wild warrior of SW, he just oozes bad-assedness.
6) Kotaro Fuma- I just love his look, its so demonic and sinister.
7) Tadakatsu Honda- The baddest of the bad in Japan.
8) Toshiie Maeda- He uses two short spears and a serrated katana, his moveset looks awesome. Like Guan Ping, he's the epitome of the young warrior seeking to make a name for himself.
9) Kiyomasa Kato- He just looks cool, and he uses a giant scythe!
10) Masamune Date- Great design, and his personality is hilariously awesome. Plus, he uses dual pistols!

As long as I'm making lists, here's my top 5 hottest chyx from the series, in my favorite outfits of theirs: under the cut )
geebs: (Default)
So, missed these lists coming out, Maxim's Hot 100, 2012 and FHM's Hot 100, 2012. I guess since FHM is British, it has a more British bent, given all the Page 3 Girls, and Skins actesses, and "Way Hot" daughter from Downton Abbey.

Although its ridiculous that Karen Gillan is only in the FHM one, as she's easily hot 100 in both countries. Yet another reason these lists are always invalid. And what's up with the lack of Odette Annable? She's hot, and she was on two TV shows this season, so its not like she wasn't working! And given Nina Dobrev and Victoria Justice are practically dopplegangers, how is Victoria #19 and Nina all the way at 84?! And I like Lea Michele and all, but even I think if you were ranking girls of Glee on a hottest list, Naya Rivera should rank hotter!

Anyhoo here's the top 10 from both:

FHM
10) Emily Atack
9) Mila Kunis
8) Keeley Hazell
7) Megan Fox
6) Katy Perry
5) Georgia Salpa
4) Rosie Jones
3) Rihanna
2) Cheryl Cole
1) Tulisa

I don't even know who half those chyx are!

Maxim
10) Adrianna Palicki
9) Malin Akerman
8) Megan Fox
7) Emma Stone
6) Jennifer Lawrence
5) Olivia Wilde
4) Katy Perry
3) Mila Kunis
2) Olivia Munn
1) Bar Refaeli

So the only overlap we get on the top 10s are Megan Fox, Katy Perry, and Mila Kunis?
geebs: (Default)
Okay, continuing the Glee thing from a few entries ago, here's the choices for the back nine of season 1:

1x14 Hell-O
Favorite song: "Hello"
Favorite performance: "Gives You Hell"
Runner up: "Hello Goodbye"

You can never go wrong with Lionel Richie, so "Hello" was the obvious choice! "Gives You Hell" was the more fun performance though.

1x15 The Power of Madonna
Favorite song: "Express Yourself"
Favorite performance: "Like A Virgin"
Runner up: "Borderline/Open Your Heart"

The only song in this ep that sucked was the boys version of "What It Feels Like For a Girl". "Express Yourself" is my all time favorite Madonna song, and in the full version, all the girls but Brit get to sing, so that's easily my top pick. However, I liked the cut back and forth between the three couples (Rachel/Jesse, Santana/Finn, Will/Emma) in "Like A Virgin", and the girls all looked sexy. "Borderline/Open Your Heart" just edges out "Like A Prayer" in my book.

1x16 Home
Favorite song/Performance: "Home"
Runner Up: "Beautiful"

Not to thrilled with the musical choices in this ep. Like "Home" was awesome, until the end, I don't like K-Cheno did with the final note there. And the "One Less Bell To Answer/A House Is Not a Home" mashup was good, except for Finn's part, which was just awful! So if I had to pick a "favorite", it would be "Home", followed by Mercedes' rendition of Christina Aguilera's "Beautiful" (which was good, but I think Katharine Mcphee covered it better on Smash)

1x17 Bad Reputation
Favorite song: "Total Eclipse of the Heart"
Favorite performance: "Run Joey Run"
Runner up: n/a

"Total Eclipse of the Heart" is one of my favorite songs, and I thought Glee covered it just fine. "Run Joey Run" is a terrible song, but Rachel's little music video for it was hilarious. The rest of the songs were kinda meh.

1x18 Laryngitis
Favorite song: "Jesse's girl"
Runner up: n/a

While "One" was done quite fine, it basically left a sour taste in my mouth. Its like, Rachel starts to lose her voice, and they make a comparison to being paralyzed. But no, they don't have her talk to Artie, instead, they introduce some random quadriplegic whom Finn is apparently friends with whom we never met before. I mean, I feel a little bad, because the actor actually is a quadriplegic. The only song I feel positive about is "Jessie's Girl" which is probably one of Finn's best songs.

1x19 Dream On
Favorite song: "Dream On"
Favorite performance: "Safety Dance"
Runner Up: "Dream a Little Dream"

Matt Morrison and Neil Patrick Harris do an amazing rendition of the classic Aerosmith song, "Dream On". The performance on the show was intense (though not as intense as the full version, since they kinda cut it off at the end in the show), but "Safety Dance" was a fun flash mob thing. "Dream a Little Dream" gets the last spot for being a sweetly sad rendition, as Artie looks on forlornly as Mike and Tina dance, and near the end Quinn gives an understanding touch. A moment that's never addressed again, but did make the Quartie fans flip out.

1x20 Theatricality
Favorite song/performance: "Bad Romance"
Runner up: "Beth"

"Bad Romance" was friggin awesome. This was actually done during the first Glee concert before it actually came out on the show, and it was amazing. Its a great use of the ensemble. As for the rest of the songs, its just such a weird rendition of "Poker Face", that I have to go with "Beth", which Mark Salling sings sweetly.

1x21 Funk
Favorite song: "Good Vibrations"
Favorite performance: "Give Up the Funk"
Runner up: "Another One Bites the Dust"

I've always loved "Good Vibrations", and this is a nice, fun rendition by Mercedes, Puck, and Finn. However, I'll have to give favorite performance to "Give Up the Funk", because Rach in those little red shorts? Seriously, that ass! In any case, Jesse and VA do a nice show choir version of the classic Queen song.

1x22 Journey
Favorite song: "Faithfully"
Favorite performance: "Bohemian Rhapsody"
Runner up: "Anyway You Want It/Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin'"

"Faithfully" is my all time favorite Journey song, so it gets my pick as favorite song, though I did like the entire Journey medley they did. "Bohemian Rhapsody" is always a fun song. I actually wasn't a fan of how they intercut it with Quinn giving birth, but this was a good example of why Vocal Adrenaline was the team to beat, because they sure can put forth a showy performance. All the songs in this ep were good, but if I had to pick a third, it would be the mashup, because its actually one of Glee's better mashups, and I have to give them props when they do a good one.
geebs: (Default)
Decided to do a list of my favorite songs in Glee, episode by episode. Well, favorite song and favorite performance, since those aren't always the same, as well as a runner up. First up, the first 13 eps:

1x01 Pilot:
Favorite Song/Performance: "Don't Stop Believin'"
Runner Up: "Leaving On a Jet Plane"

DSB is the easy and obvious choice here, as its the song that started it all. Technically, "Leaving On a Jet Plane" is only in the original and extended versions of the pilot, but Matthew Morrison does a good job with it.

1x02 Showmance
Favorite Song/Performance: "Take a Bow"
Runner Up: "I Say a Little Prayer"

I've said before that I think Lea Michele does an amazing job with "Take a Bow", way better than the Rihanna original. Of the rest of the songs, I think "I Say A Little Prayer" is my next favorite. But only because I wasn't a fan of "Push It", and while "Gold Digger" was fun, "I Say A Little Prayer" was the first time we got to hear Dianna Agron sing. Too bad this is before Heather Morris and Naya Rivera actually sang on the show, so the backing vocals on the song aren't actually them.

1x03 Acafellas
Favorite Song/Performance: "Mercy"
Runner Up: "I Wanna Sex You Up"

Eh, this ep was kind blah musically. But I've always liked "Mercy", and Vocal Adrenaline does a fun job with it, as they usually do. If I had to pick a second one, "I Wanna Sex You Up" was always an amusing song, though Stephen Tobolowsky makes this version kinda goofy.

1x04 Preggers
Favorite Song/Performance: "Taking Chances"
Runner Up: n/a

There was only the one song this episode (that was released), so there really was no other choice. Even then though, "Taking Chances" is still one of my favorite Glee songs of all time. Even if we hardly get to hear it in the ep.

1x05 The Rhodes Not Taken
Favorite Song/Performance: "Somebody To Love"
Runner Up: "Alone"

"Somebody To Love" again is the obvious choice. If DSB was the song that started it all, this song playing in the preview after the pilot first aired for the upcoming season several months later kept people hooked. I wasn't a fan of the Broadway numbers they chose, and the Carrie Underwood song was okay, but I'm not going to choose any of those over a Heart song, so obviously "Alone" would be the next choice after STL.

1x06 Vitamin D
Favorite Song/Performance: "It's My Life/Confessions Part II"
Runner Up: n/a

Until the Quinn/Rachel duet of "I Feel Pretty/Unpretty", "Its My Life/Confessions Part II" was the best mashup the show ever came up with. Now, there were only two songs in this ep, and while "Halo/Sunshine" was fine, it seems like cheating to give it the runner up slot.

1x07 Throwdown
Favorite Song: "Keep Holding On"
Favorite Performance: "Hate On Me"
Runner Up: "You Keep Me Hangin' On"

"Keep Holding On" was surprisingly emotional for a cover of an Avril Lavigne song from a subpar fantasy movie. While the rest of the glee club each sharing a moment with Quinn was sweet, "Hate On Me" was a fun performance. And "You Keep Me Hangin' On" was pretty hot with all the Cheerios looking all sexy in the cheerleader outfits and midriff baring football uniforms.

1x08 Mash-Up
Favorite Song/Performance: "Sweet Caroline"
Runner Up: "Thong Song"

Mark Salling does a great job with "Sweet Caroline", it just sucks its not a full length version of the song. And while a lot of people get second hand embarrassment when Matthew Morrison raps, I've always had a soft spot for the Thong Song.

1x09 Wheels
Favorite Song/Performance: "Defying Gravity"
Runner Up: n/a

The original song is just so great and wonderful, and Lea Michele and Chris Colfer do an amazing job with this. Its too bad the version aired on the show has Kurt miffing the last note on purpose. There are other songs in this ep, but they're so blah I can't even be bothered to choose one of them as a runner up.

1x10 Ballad
Favorite Song: "Crush"
Favorite Performance: "Endless Love"
Runner Up: "Lean On Me"

I've always liked the Jennifer Paige song (btw, she went to he who shall not be named's HS!) and Lea Michele sings it well. It sucks that they don't actually play the song on the show. "Endless Love" was amusing because the song is always a fun duet to do, especially when you're plastered at some wedding and its playing during the reception. But the inner monologues during the songs were pretty hilarious. "Lean On Me" gets the runner up spot just for being a nice song to end the ep on, with the glee club being there for Finn and Quinn.

1x11 Hairography
Favorite Song/Performance: "True Colors"
Runner Up: "Bootylicious"

"True Colors" was the first time Jenna Ushkowitz got a solo (that was released). She sings the song sweetly, and the performance on the show with everyone in the different colored tees just looks so pretty.

1x12 Mattress
Favorite Song/Performance: "Jump"
Runner Up: n/a

"Jump" was a fun performance with the mattress choreography. Again, I found the rest of the songs in this ep kinda meh, so no runner up here.

1x13 Sectionals
Favorite Song/Performance: "My Life Would Suck Without You"
Runner Up: "You Can't Always Get What You Want"

I think Lea Michele looks cute during the "My Life Would Suck Without You", and it was nice to see all the callbacks to the choreography in the previous episodes. And "You Can't Always Get What You Want" was such a beautiful performance, kinda like the culmination of all their hopes and dreams from the beginning of the season.

So AfterEllen posted their Top 50 Female TV characters list. I'll list the ones I've heard of: (though I don't necessarily watch all these shows)

50) Bianca Montgomery, All My Chidren
49) Sydney Bristow, Alias
48) Lisa Simpson, The Simpsons
47) Emily Prentiss, Criminal Minds
45) Sue Sylvester, Glee
44) River Song, Doctor Who
40) Effy Stonem, Skins
39) Temperance Brennan, Bones
38) Spencer Hastings, Pretty Little Liars
37) Spencer Carlin, South of Nowhere
36) Lorelai Gilmore, Gilmore Girls
35) Bo Dennis, Lost Girl
33) Olivia Dunham, Fringe
32) Gabrielle, Xena
29) Casey Novak, SVU
28) Cara Mason, Legend of the Seeker
27) Myka Bering, Warehouse 13
26) Helena G Wells, Warehouse 13
25) Kahlan Amnell, Legend of the Seeker
22) Leslie Knope, Parks and Recreation
20) Dana Scully, The X-files
19) Brittany S Pierce, Glee
18) Rachel Berry, Glee
17) Kate Beckett, Castle
16) Olivia Benson, SVU
15) Liz Lemon, 30 Rock
14) Veronica Mars, Veronica Mars
13) Quinn Fabray, Glee
12) Willow Rosenberg, Buffy the Vampire Slayer
11) Maura Isles, Rizzoli and Isles
9) Jane Rizzoli, Rizzoli and Isles
8) Naomi Campbell, Skins
7) Callie Torres, Grey's Anatomy
6) Emily Fields, Pretty Little Lairs
5) Buffy Summers, Buffy the Vampire Slayer
4) Emily Fitch, Skins
3) Xena, Xena
2) Arizona Robbins, Grey's Anatomy
1) Santana Lopez, Glee

Heh, I'm amused that Faberritana are all on the top 20. Because when I imagine Faberry, I also imagine Britanna along side them. No, not in that way! Well, I mean, that would also be hott, but I meant the two couples being close friends!

Anyways, I guess this is their "of all time" lists, since several of the mentioned characters are on shows that have been long since off the air? I'm not surprised Emily from PLL is in the top 10, nor Naomily from Skins, nor Callie and Arizona from Grey's. (Since I don't watch Grey's, what are Callie and Arizona's portmanteau?)

I didn't realize Rizzoli and Isles were so popular amongst the lesbian community. Or that of all apparently Casey was the favored L&O SVU DA? I figured people liked Alex better, that's why they brought her back? And while I think Buffy, Willow, Gaby and Xena's inclusion on this list were a given, I didn't realize Legend of the Seeker was a popular enough show to have both Kahlan and Cara both on here.
geebs: (Default)
So, it looks like Faberry won the E! online top TV couple 2012 poll. That's hilariously awesome! That's almost as great as all the Dair goodness from last night's Gossip Girl!

Soul Calibur blather: Since [livejournal.com profile] turdburgler was curious, I did finally come up with a design for Boyce. I managed to come up with something that didn't look too much like Abdul's outfit. And to make it more unique looking, I did Boyce in manifest form: pics under cut )

I also tweaked Innocence's design a bit, different hairstyle, and now she has a pirate hat for some reason:

another cut )

Interesting, Cervantes level, its raining, but I didn't realize until now how much effort they put into making the characters look all soaked:

more cuts )

I mean, look at that slick sheen!

So it is shocking that Whitney Houston died, I mean, yeah, she's been having problems as of late. I mean, I even saw an article on Friday about how she's been a bit of a mess, but I did not expect her to be dead a day later. In any case, what the hell is up with with people on Facebook being all "RIP, Whitney", but the pic is of Oprah Winfrey?! Is it a weird, tasteless joke? Did they hear Whitney and think Winfrey? Or did some idiots actually confuse Oprah Winfrey and Whitney Houston (though I don't see how, they look nothing alike!)? Its like when that lady called into that one show and thought Shirley from Community was in "The Help".

Is it necessarily racist though? I mean, one could think the person made the mistake because they think all people of a certain race look alike, but when a non-white person confuses Ralph Fiennes and Liam Neeson, or thought Opie from Sons of Anarchy was played by Roy from the Office, is that person racist? They could just be mistaken!

I wish cooking wasn't such a hassle. I saw some ready to cook fresh bacon wrapped filets in the butcher section at Publix. Unfortunately, the only instructions on the package were for grilling, and looking up how to cook it not on the grill, it seems like such a hassle. Cooking it in a pan first, then transferring it to the oven. That's too much effort for a meal for myself.

Oh wait, Walking Dead is back tonight? As I've said before, I think I would enjoy the show more if I just could better ignore the commentary and complaints of people who only watch the show and know nothing about the comic. I'm so sick of people all, "X and Y suck, just kill them off already! Let's see Z and A more!" Well, they can't because that's not how the story goes! X and Y are prominent characters integral to the plot. Z and A died early on or didn't even exist in the comic. I'm fine with a certain character who doesn't exist in the comic, because he's turned out to be a pretty good character. But killing off this person and that, and not killing some other character, those deviations are too big! At that point, it ceases to be Walking Dead for me. So shut your stupid faces and stop trying to ruin the story.

Anyways, now that we're on the topic of TV, somehow it seems there's more TV on in the winter season than there was on fall. I mean, look at my viewing schedule:

Sun: Cleveland Show, Once Upon a Time, Family Guy, American Dad, Walking Dead (3 1/2 hours)
Mon: How I Met Your Mother, House, Gossip Girl, Pretty Little Liars, Alcatraz, Hart of Dixie, Being Human, Castle, Hawaii Five-O, Smash, Lost Girl (10 1/2 hours! WTF?!)
Tue: Glee, NCIS, New Girl, Raising Hope, White Collar, Justified (5 hours, 5 1/2 when Cougar Town comes back this Tuesday)
Wed: Modern Family, Happy Endings, Criminal Minds, SVU, Royal Pains (4 hours)
Thu: Vampire Diaries, 30 Rock, Parks and Recreation, The Office, Person of Interest, The Finder, Secret Circle, Archer (6 hours)
Fri: Nikita, Fringe, Supernatural (3 hours)

So, its' list time. I'll break it into two categories, hour long and half/hour long shows. And I'll come up with the top 5 shows I prioritize in both categories. i.e., if I had missed a bunch of TV watching, these are the shows I'm catching up with first.

So, hour long dramas:

1) Glee- I guess I just love musical numbers. Smash is okay, and while I really liked the songs coming up in this week's ep (Blondie's "Call Me" from Katharine Mcphee, while Megan Hilty does Carrie Underwood's "Crazy Dreams"), the show has yet to hit me with something that delivered the emotional punch of "Don't Stop Believin'", "Somebody To Love" (The Queen one, not the Bieber one), "Keep Holding On", or "I Feel Pretty/Unpretty", among others. I babble on and on about the show for a more few more paragraphs, so here's a cut for your benefit )

2) Vampire Diaries- its easy to dismiss this as being the same as all that Twilight crap, that is just about a girl mooning over two or more creatures of the night. And while there is an element of that, the show still does the suspense so well. As I've said before, the show has constant twists and turns, and the plot actually moves at a breakneck pace. Way faster than you'd expect from a drama on the CW.

3) Fringe- The best sci-fi show on prime time TV right now, hands down. I have to question the "geek cred" of any sci-fi geeks who don't watch this show.

4) Nikita- Hey, this surprised me just a much that it made it on the list. But honestly, the show has just gotten really good. [livejournal.com profile] clevemire quit this show last season because nothing was happening. Which is amusing because right afterward was when things started happening. They've flipped the scripts multiple times already, and there's so many players right now that its chock full of intrigue. Not to mention the cool action.

5) Gossip Girl- Honestly, this show is only on this list because of Dair. The only reason I've been enthused about this show as of late was because they've so strongly hinted they're finally getting together. Of course, if they ever destroy that dynamic, particularly to get Blair back together with Chuck, and even worse, get Dan back together with Serena, I no longer have to watch this show.

FYI, Game of Thrones doesn't start up for almost 2 months, so its not a "Winter Season" show (Heh, which is kinda amusing given the whole "Winter is Coming" thing), otherwise it would easily be number 3 on this list, shifting everything else down.

The half hour sitcoms:

1) Archer- This show is just hilariously awesome. And its got action and obscure references and Judy Greer portraying Carol/Cheryl so hotly.

2) Modern Family- If I could put Community on this list (see below, at the end of this list), this show would be at number 3. But as it is, its the funniest sitcom currently on network TV, after Community.

3) Parks and Recreation- It started off as an Office clone, but eventually found its groove. I've been enjoying this more than the Office lately, probably because it makes a better use of its ensemble, and while I've said its found its own groove, it now reminds me of how the Office was when it was in its prime. The Office now is a little too soap operish, which you'd think would be right up my alley, but I don't think its balanced it out with the comedy. I mean, I'm totally engrossed by the Erin/Andy stuff, and the Val/Darryl stuff, but I haven't laughed like I used to for a while.

4) Happy Endings- Hey, I say this show is hysterical. If HIMYM was the Friends of the oughts, this show is on its way to becoming the Friends for the 20-teens. It does the style of humor New Girl is going for better than New Girl, particularly since it has a much stronger ensemble. I mean, Coach is barely a fleshed out character, and Jess, the main star, is one of the weaker parts of the cast. Let's face it, Elisha Cuthbert is prolly one of the bottom rungs of the Happy Endings cast, and I still find her funnier than Zooey Deschanel on New Girl.

And as I've said above, one of the ways to really make me laugh is make obscure, yet funny and clever references, which this show does well.

5) The Office/How I Met Your Mother- This is a tie, not because I couldn't decide which one I liked better, but which one I disliked more than the other. I voiced my complaints about the Office above in my Parks and Rec entry. As for HIMYM, it has the Barney/Robin stuff still going for it, but that is rightfully not the only thing on the show, because not everyone is into that stuff. So I think they've at least balanced that well. But the humor hasn't been hitting its mark as it has in the past.

Again, given they haven't even said when Community is returning, I couldn't put it on the "Winter Season" list, otherwise it would definitely be on here.

Yet another "hottest" list: UGO's 99 hottest fictional women of 2012.

This list is confusing, because I don't think UGO understands the meaning of 2012. Like why the frick is Princess Leia on this list?! She was relevant neither to 2011 nor 2012!

So the top 20 are:

20) Valentine from Skullgirls
19) Juliet Starling from Lollypop Chainsaw
18) Catwoman
17) Moira O'Hara (the young version) from American Horror Story
16) Triss Merrigold from The Witcher
15) Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games
14) Dany from Game of Thrones
13) Quinn from Glee
12) Lydia from Skyrim
11) Lana from Archer
10) Joan from Mad Men
9) Miranda Lawson from Mass Effect (I understand she's voiced by Yvonne Strahovski, but the brunette video game version of her looks weird)
8) Jill Valentine from Resident Evil
7) Jess from New Girl
6) Black Widow
5) Nikita
4) Jenny from the League
3) Shaundi from Saints Row 3 (who has better hair in this outing, but is also no longer voiced by Eliza Dushku)
2) Gloria from Modern Family
1) Tara from Sons of Anarchy

I mean, I guess its "fictional" women, but I am surprised by the variety of genres they cover in terms of fiction. I mean, its one thing to cover comics, video games, and sci-fi/action shows, but its weird they also included things like Glee, Modern Family, Community, and the League.

TV commentary:

Justified- Is it me, or is Quarles just itching to see if his little sleeve rig will make him fast enough to outdraw Raylan? I was a little nervous he was actually going to try and test his luck right there. And I don't know why, but it still weirds me out that Raylan's dad is part of Boyd's gang. I mean, Ava's spunky, but I don't find the rest of Boyd's crew all that intimidating- I mean, an old dude and an idiot? Who's gonna take that seriously?

And now a more traditional hotties list Top 99 Women of 2012. There are some... interesting choices there, and let's leave it at that.

TV commentary:

Glee- Wow, pretty jam packed episode tonight. spoiler cut )

So, a different kind of hotties list: The 2011 Independent Critics list of the 100 Most Beautiful Faces.

Comments: This list has apparently been a thing for a while, but this is my first time seeing such a list. Its odd they have like Rebecca Black and that communitychannel chick on there. Not that they're uggos, far from it. But most people would be, "who?!!" Well, maybe not about Rebecca Black, but she's basically a random compared to the other people on the list.

Also, Dany's on the list, and whenever she's out and about in the real world, I like never recognize her, because she isn't really blond like in GoT. In any case, while there are some "who?"s on the list, there are some pretty decent choices.

And this has been going around, but really, what is up with Kristen Bell's reaction to sloths?:

I mean, on the one hand, its ridiculous that she would have such a reaction, but on the other, its also kinda totes adorable. Also, am I the only one who thinks of the Goonies' Sloth before actual sloths when someone mentions sloths?

TV commentary:

House- Interesting changes at PPH. spoiler cut )

So, the new underling is played by Charlyne Yi, who I did not realize was part-Flip. I thought it was interesting that they had her character's ethnicity match her in real life (Flip-Korean) I mean, that was kinda oddly specific, I doubt the majority of viewers would care beyond "Asian". Also, I was amused by next week's promo and House making a Charlie's Angels ref about her, 13, and prison doctor girl. Mostly because how sucky would it be to be the homely chick in a group with Olivia Wilde and Odette Annable?

Sons of Anarchy- Well, that was rather convenient! spoiler cut )

I thought this was an amusing enough article: 9 TV actors who were never supposed to leave their castmates in the dust:

1) Alyson Hannigan- I'm not sure she exactly left her castmates "in the dust". Yeah, she has a pretty good career on a hit sitcom and getting way better rating than SMG is on her new show. But I think SMG is still a household name.

2) Bradley Cooper- Okay, the list is definitely true about this.

3) Mila Kunis- She seems to be on this list because the ones on That 70's Show that were expected to be the biggest stars were Ashton Kutcher and Topher Grace? People thought that much of those two?

4) Amanda Seyfried- Sure, Kristen Bell's career seems to have waned, while Seyfried has been getting more buzz as of late, but I wouldn't really count that as surprisingly having blown her castmates away.

5) Leonardo DiCaprio- I mean, obviously he's a huge star nowadays. But its not like the other people on Growing Pains were all that big at the time (well, except for Kirk Cameron) or seemed like they were on the road to becoming superstars. However, the list implies the rise to superstardom was a surprise, but I think even as early as this he was still getting buzz.

6) Michelle Williams- Yeah, she's been in a bunch of critically acclaimed stuff as of late. But while she has the indie cred, I'm not sure she is that more well known than Pacey. Sure, Fringe's ratings aren't all that great, but I think Joshua Jackson is at least as well known in the geek circles as she is in the indie circles. And Katie Holmes, are you kidding me? She's married to Tom frickin' Cruise!

7) Marisa Tomei- Marisa Tomei was in A Different World?!!

8) Joseph Gordon Levitt- Now this is the example they were trying to go for with Leo. I mean, back then, Leo being a big frickin deal now, I could believe it. But the kid from 3rd Rock? That was a definite surprise. I mean, I like the stuff he's done, its just surprising as all. Of course, even then, I think John Lithgow is still a big deal. And he's been around for longer, so its not like JGL left Lithgow behind.

9) Seth Rogen- While "Freaks and Geeks" was an amazing show, it is a definite surprise that Seth Rogen, James Franco, and Jason Segel became such big deals. Even then, I don't think there were any expectations that any one of the actors there would do that much better than the others. Linda Cardellini I think did okay, and Haverchuck and Sweets still have decent careers. Jason Segel has done a few movies and has HIMYM, though I think Franco and Rogen are still a bigger deal than him. But between those two, I'm not sure who's considered bigger.

So decided to get into this tumblr thing. I guess basically this is the breakdown of how I use the various social networking sites:

LJ: For lengthy posts about anything.
Google +: For not too long posts I want people in my circles to see.
Facebook: For stuff I don't mind family and work people seeing.
Twitter: Random little crap when I'm out and about, which I will #fb if its something I don't mind family and work people seeing.
tumblr: So far, for random music videos and tv/movie scenes that pop into my head at the time.

Actually for the top 25 on my Hot 100, I figure instead of making 1 big-ass LJ post with pics of them, which be lengthy and time consuming, I would make a tumblr post of each girl. I have 6 through 25 up now on there. I'll put 1 through 5 up tomorrow, since it took me nearly 3 hours to do 6 through 25. (And since I'm new to tumblr, it shocks me how quickly things get reblogged, some of those pics weren't up for more than a couple of minutes when I saw they had been reblogged!)

I know, you're thinking, "How many of these G-D lists is he gonna make?" Last one of this type this year, I promise. Anyways, so [livejournal.com profile] clevemire had commented it would be more interesting to see the trend over time. Of course, the only way to do this is to do annual lists. Hey, if all the big time men's magazines and entertainment sites can do this, so can I. Coming up with 250 was way too hard though, and like I said I wasn't satisfied with some of my choices. I was struggling to fill the remaining spots. And even then, after I posted my list, I remembered a dozen more or so chyx I would've put over some of the one I listed. (Like how the hell could I forget Winona Ryder. Hey, she still looks good nowadays!)

And since 50 was a little too light, I went with the standard 100. I expanded from my top 10 and ranked my top 25, then listed the lower 75 in alphabetical order: under the cut )

Of course, October is a poor time to do this, because the new fall TV season starts. So such a listing may be heavily influenced by newness/current exposure. At least around April/May, its the end of the TV season, so one has had a few months to ruminate on the hotness of the hotties on TV. Although I guess the opposite would be true for movie actresses though, because October is after all the summer blockbusters are done, but before the holiday season movies. Whereas April/May, the studios are doing a big push of their stars, so they're everywhere, and again you're running into the ubiquitous exposure problem. Or maybe that just doesn't matter.

So, Ranker has a top 13 hottest girls turning 18 in 2011 list. (I think the majority are already 18, though Captain Mal's daughter doesn't until tomorrow) I suppose it is kinda creepy that I knew who all but one of them were. And even then, I was aware of Lava Girl, I just didn't know that was her name nor did I recognize her from the headshot.

The article though brings me to one of my pet peeves- someone writing an article on a celeb and failing to list easily obtainable and relevant information. Like when the Halloween remake had come out a few years ago, which had Danielle Harris as one of the girls in it. Not to be confused with Daneel Harris, now Daneel Ackles, after marrying Dean on Supernatural, but I digress. They fail to mention she was in not one but two of the original Halloween sequels! Its like, they could've been all, "An interesting piece of trivia..." And these writers make money writing about entertainment? Its total BS! Like its that hard to look them up in imdb and/or do a quick google?! Its like frickin' amateur hour.

So yeah, for Hannah Marks, they had her as "having a recurring role on this past season of Weeds, and a role in the new Spiderman". What about playing the daughter on Necessary Roughness? 1) This article was dated today, so its not like it was before it was written before that show came on the air. And 2) They reference shows like Victorious and ICarly and Degrassi: TNG, which the readers are less likely to be aware of, unlike a decently rated USA summer season show. Like I'm fine with them not mentioning the daughter on Terra Nova just did "Lemonade Mouth" earlier this year, because normal readers would be all, "What the eff is Lemonade Mouth?", but they might be aware of the USA summer line up. (Even if NR was nowhere near as good as the other new USA show, Suits)

And then for AnnaSophia Robb, they mention "Oh, you might know her from Race to Witch Mountain, with The Rock". She just did Soul Surfer this year! I mean, its a movie based on some real life surfer girl who got her arm bitten off by a shark! Even if its not a movie you'd watch, you would be at least aware, because its about a girl who's arm got bitten off by a shark! That's kinda weird. Its like the dolphin movie that came out last week! Just like she lost her arm, the dolphin lost it's tail, and they both learned to go into the water again!

It took me a while, but I finally came up with my top 250 favorite celebrity chyx so [livejournal.com profile] clevemire could plot vs age to see if it ends up looking like a bell curve. Which is actually way harder than it seems! Eventually, you get through the ones you do really like, and then you wrack your brain filling the remaining slots. I had come up with about 120 off the top of my head, and really had to struggle to come up with 130 more. Like some of the choices seem so prosaic and LCD.

Looking at the list, its amusing to pick out my thought processes for certain sections of the list, like what associations I made at the time. The list, under the cut )

(I'm sure there are a couple of girls on this list who y'all are all "Who?" Google it, that's what its there for!)
geebs: (Default)
So, a few posts ago, I did a Top 50 Favorite Hot Chyx list. Now that I've had time to ruminate, using that list, I came up with a top 10 list that's actually ordered and everything. cut for brevity )

So, the mean age of this group is 26, which actually meshes with the whole your age divided by 2 plus 8 rule. So maybe I don't show a preference for chyx who are way too young for me. I would go so far to say I like girls of the appropriate age for me!

But breaking it down again, I noticed they're all snowflakes, mostly brunettes, with just two red heads and no blonds. Well, unless you count Odette Yustman as Latina, and technically Olivia Wilde and Emma Stone are natural blonds, they just dye their hair to a color that works way better for them. [livejournal.com profile] clevemire jokingly(?) commented I need to come up with 250 girls to get better data. But alas, I've only come up with 164 so far. The problem with shooting for a particular number though, is at least when I was just coming up with girls off the top of my head, I could trust I really found them attractive. But if I have to think of 86 more girls, I might just be naming them to fill the spots.

TV commentary:

Warehouse 13- Wow, what a way to end the season. spoiler cut )
geebs: (Default)
Hmm, so in addition to releasing the songs the Friday before, now the show has started releasing some of the performances from the next ep on youtube? Its odd that Fox does the stupid 8 day delay for non-Dish/non Hulu-plus subscribers on all their shows, but they're fine with releasing the actual musical numbers beforehand? I guess they're trying to generate buzz. In any case, here's Brit doing Beyonce's "Run the World":

For one thing, just like when Rachel did Rihanna's "Take a Bow" way back in season one, this is one of those songs where I prefer Glee's version to the original. Though that seems to be the case with a lot of the more Urban music they do. Also, as I've said countless times before, HeMo looks infinitely hotter with her hair down. And finally, how the hell does Kurt have a chance in hell of winning the election after this? The chyx feel all empowered, and the dudes are mesmerized by the hotness.

Speaking of hotness. decided to try my hand at a "Hottest list". I've always found it very difficult to narrow things down to a certain number. But decided to just sit down and look at a list of all the TV shows I watch regularly, the music I listen to, the movies I've seen, other "hottest lists" and first grab all the ladies I liked on those, then take that list and whittle it down to 50 by choosing the ones I felt more strongly towards.

I don't want to say its a "50 hottest chyx list", perhaps it would be more accurate to call it my top 50 favorite hottest chyx: (in no particular order, because its hard enough shortening the list to just 50. Having to order them to would be un-possible!) under the cut )

I was too lazy to actually link to pics. If you're reading this, you have access to the net. If you're curious what one of them looks like, google it yourself! In any case, I put their ages next to them just to help me with seeing trends.

And what trends did I find? Well, I have a definite preference for brunettes- of the 50, 33 are dark haired, with only 10 blonds and 7 redheads. And it should be no surprise I favor the snowflakes- 44/50 are white, with the last 6 being equally split between Latina and Asian. Of course, I didn't count Alexis Bledel as Hispanic, even though she actually is, despite her fair skin and blue eyes. Odette Yustman might actually count as Hispanic also. But chyx like Selena Gomez and Kristin Kreuk are practically snowflakes so the numbers are nebulous.

Age-wise, only 2 are under 20 (but still over 18), with 27 in their 20s, 20 in their 30s, and 1 in her 40s. (Hmm, I wonder if I plotted it out, would it look like a bell curve?) It should be no surprise that 43 of them are younger than me, but hey 7 older, that's not too bad. Though I guess 29 of them were playing high school age characters when they first came to my attention. (Although I shouldn't really count Evangeline Lily, because I first had the hots for her on Lost, and it was only later that I found out she was an extra in Freddy vs Jason. But technically, the first thing I saw her in, she was playing a HS-er)
geebs: (Default)
Heh, [livejournal.com profile] isabel79 saw POTO this weekend, and I'm amused that given the number of times she's seen it, I have not been there for any of them! But given I saw Wicked this weekend, it had me wondering how many musical soundtracks did I have that I haven't actually seen the musical for:

-Avenue Q
-Jersey Boys
-Priscilla, Queen of the Desert
-Spring Awakening

Hey, only four. Hopefully I'll see Priscilla one of the time I'm up in NYC later this year. And I think Avenue Q is still showing on Broadway. But alas, I don't think there's any chance to see Spring Awakening. Though I don't actually have that big an interest in seeing Jersey Boys.

I at least have seen the movie versions of:

-Annie (though i have the music from the remake with Victor Garber, not the original movie)
-Godspell (hey, its back on Broadway! There's this one Disney Flip chick on it. Which is the extent of what I know about this new version)
-Hairspray
-Jesus Christ Superstar
-Little Shop of Horrors (though I hardly remember it)
-Phantom of the Opera (I recently replaced the movie soundtrack version on my ipod with the original cast recording)

But like Spring Awakening, I don't think there's a way to see the stage production versions of some of those anymore.

And the ones where i've seen the actual musical and the movie (if there was one):

-Mamma Mia! (surprisingly, I only have a couple of songs from the actual play, but that's because I already have a lot of Abba on my ipod)
-Rent (its the movie version soundtrack on my ipod, though I do have a song or two from the original cast recording.)
-Rock of Ages
-Wicked

So I guess I have a decent number of Musicals on my ipod. Of course, there's also music from musical movies:

-Across the Universe (it still annoys me that the version of "All You Need" is love on the soundtrack doesn't have the "He loves you, yeah, yeah, yeah" in the background at the end- they had it in the movie, and in the original song! Its total BS!)
-Bandslam (And you can be sure I'll be getting the soundtrack to Joyful Noise when that comes out)
-Burlesque
-Camp Rock
-Camp Rock 2
-Dr. Horrible's Singalong Blog
-Enchanted (I wasn't sure if I should count this and not other Disney movies, otherwise I'd have to add Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, and the Little Mermaid)
-HSM
-Lemonade Mouth

And then if we go to songs from TV shows, I do have every song ever done on Glee (that was released) plus songs from the soundtracks to the musical themed episodes of Buffy, Grey's Anatomy, and Scrubs. Plus, released songs from American Dad, HIMYM, Pushing Daisies (I'm annoyed they never released Chenoweth's version of "Eternal Flame") , Ruby and the Rockets, and Victorious.

Despite all this though, I still think the majority of my music is actual music that gets played on the radio.
