More Superhot blather- Slowly making my way through hard mode. Although like I was complaining about the speedrun mode, a lot of it is just doing things perfectly. Using
the Elevator level as the example yet again:
I always use elevator mode as the example because its one of the few levels where the enemies armaments are set, and since its so small and short, there's little variation in how it plays out. Other levels you take two steps left, or move one second slower and the level plays out totally differently.
But I digress. Since the enemies aren't as "slowed" and the bullets move faster, you have to run this perfectly. Any slight pause and the enemy will get a bead on you and fire, immediately killing you as soon as you go into real time. So I punch the guy on the left, have to quickly and perfectly move the cursor onto the middle guy- any pause and you get shot in the face. Then I have to continue my rightwards trajectory so the guy on the right can't track me and fire.
And as seen in the video, I got lucky- I punched him at the exact moment he tried to shoot, killing him instantly. Then its all a matter of grabbing one of the flying guns, shooting one of the guys, immediately tossing it at the other guy to stun him long enough to grab the other flying gun and shooting the remaining guy. Then, tossing the pistol at the right shotgun guy as the elevator door opens, immediately jumping to him and perfectly grabbing the shotgun and firing it at the left shotgun guy in one smooth motion, immediately tossing the shotgun at right shotgun guy to stun him and get him off my ass long enough to punch him out with a 5 hit combo.
So like I said, you got to run it perfectly, and hope for a little luck. I mean, I feel I only got past the lab level because after taking out the first three guys, the guy who ended up coming out of the door to your immediate right in that lab room was unarmed, and I managed to draw unarmed, pistol or katana guys for the rest of the fight. Its like, if they don't have a gun, they're as good as dead.
Or the "desp" level (which apparently stands for Desperado's bar?), I tried that level about a dozen times, and when I finally beat it, it was because one enemy acted differently- you start out beating up some guy in a bathroom stall right in front of you, run out the bathroom, take out a guy charging in, then there's a bartender behind a bar with a shotgun. The way I play it, I immediately run forward to put a pillar between me and him, jump on top of the pool table, grabbing a billiard ball as I do and then tossing it to stun him and make him drop his shotgun.
Now, I can blow him away with the shotgun, immediately turn to the guy coming out of the door to the right and take him out by tossing the shotgun at him, grabbing his gun and shooting him, but then with the increased speed, I had been having trouble taking out the three guys behind me before one of them shot me.
The time I finally beat it, the guy after the bartender comes out of the left door way instead (behind the bar is a hallway connected by the two doorways on the left and right) So since I'm standing on the bar with a shotgun in hand, the guy coming out of the door and the bartender running away are close enough to take out with one shotgun blast.
Which gives me enough breathing room because I then move forward towards the left door and off the bar which puts me in an advantageous position, because now I only have to deal with one of the guys behind me, as the pillar and pinball machines cover me from the other two. Indeed, one of the guys on the left takes out the other trying to shoot me. So its all a matter of blasting the one guy on me, and then tossing the shotgun at the remaining guy as soon as he clears the pillar and we can see each other, allowing me to rush up grab his gun and finish him off.
So like I said, passing some of these levels involves a bit of luck.
