Thing I'm doing to entertain myself currently:
- Reading IDW's Infestation cross-over event.
- Watching Luther on Netflix.
- Finishing up getting almost everything for everyone in DW7: XL, so I can start on WO3 (which I just bought from the Playstation store and have currently downloading slowly to my PS3)
TV commentary:
Common Law- You know, I don't know why people are getting onto Wes for not moving on. Or rather, for still being in love with his ex-wife. Its not like he ever fell out of love with her- they made it clear in the pilot that after he quit being a lawyer to become a cop, she wanted a divorce because she didn't want to be a cop's wife and be constantly worrying about him.
And could it be any more obvious the race car driver did it? Its like gee, he's bragging about he's a better driver than the cops, I wonder if this will end in a car chase where Wed and Travis prove him wrong!?
Young Justice- So we had the time jump to 5 years later this season, but now apparently we've gotten a glimpse of the future 40 years from the current time line, where Impulse has come back from the future to try and prevent the desolation we see there. So he ends up changing history to prevent the death of his grandfather, the Flash, and preventing Neutron (who is his friend in the future) from becoming a super-villain. But not enough to stop the desolation. We still have no idea who this new enemy is, but apparently they're doing metagene stuff on all those kidnapped people, creating folks like Neutron.
And Red Arrow finally find Speedy. I wonder how that's going to turn out. I like how Cheshire was motivated to search for original Roy so clone Roy could stop being so emo and be a father to their child, because like the others said last ep, even though Red Arrow is a clone, he's the only Roy they know, they didn't become friends with original Speedy. Cheshire had the kid with him, not the original.
Legend of Korra- Okay, Ikki accidentally and nonchalantly mentioning to Asami that Korra likes Mako was kinda hilarious. Though was she totally oblivious to that fact?! So, interesting, Tarlokk has mastered blood bending to such a high degree he doesn't need a full moon to do it? Also, who is the guy in the flashback? And what is his relation to Tarlokk? Apparently that guy was also a powerful bloodbender as well, having simultaneously stopped Toph, Sokka, Avatar, and random metal benders in the middle of a courtroom, possibly to escape?
Now, is Tarlokk working with Amon, possibly using the Equalists to scare the council/benders to give him enough political power in the name of stopping them? Or are they two threats with their own agendas, Amon really wanting to get away from what he perceives to be the oppressiveness of the benders and willing to do anything to do so, while Tarlokk is taking advantage of the sitch? I dunno, Tarlokk seems to know too much at times, I'm suspecting they are working together.

Date: 2012-06-03 03:33 pm (UTC)In the flashback, Sokka is shown being hurt or something by the yellow-eyed guy who seems to be a defendant. I never considered that all those people were being blood bent at the same time, but I supposed it could be. However, it is supposed to be really difficult to do, and especially difficult on a non-full-moon, Tarrlok was obviously having trouble with Korra, so I would say that I don't think a waterbender can blood bend more than one person at a time on a non-full-moon. Anyway, my assessment of the flashback was that the defendant was someone related to Amon who was in the process of taking someone's bending ability away, and Aang and company were fighting it, trying to stop it. Perhaps he was on trial for something else, and he had never publically taken away someone's bending ability, so Aang and company didn't know to take precautions against it and were caught by surprise.
At first I thought Tarrlock was Amon, because his eyes got wide when Korra said he was no better than Amon. But now I think that it's just that Tarrlok's beef with Amon is very, very personal. And being compared to him, as if he was anything like Amon, is like the worst thing Tarrlok can imagine. I think Tarrlok may actually know who Amon is, but isn't saying because he wants to be the one to take Amon down, because it's personal.
Going out on a limb now --
Sokka was the notable non-bender of the previous series. Sokka was also water tribe. Tarrlok is also of an age to be a child of one of the main characters (he seems about the same age as Tenzin and Beifong). From the flashback, my initial assumption was that Tarrlok is Sokka's child (both Sokka and Suki were water tribe even if they weren't benders). Bloodbending is supposedly _very_ difficult, and Katara's the only one known to be able to do it when it isn't a full moon, until now. Tarrlok can. It is possible that Sokka carries the same latent bending gene that Katara had, and he passed to his child, Tarrlok. The biggest problem with this theory is that it seems ridiculous that no one would have mentioned his relation to the original group on-screen (to Korra) by now.
Other limbs --
Tarrlok's water bending father/mother/loved-one was present for this trial as a guard or whatever, and Amon's father was the one on trial. During the struggle shown, the defendant used his take-bending-away ability on Tarrlok's loved-one, making Tarrlok extremely bent over the whole thing. A non-bender should not be able to hurt a bender, after all. Tarrlok is a bitter, elitest bender with a chip on his shoulder and few qualms. He wants to take down Amon in revenge for taking his loved-one's bending ability away. At this point, I no longer think he's in kahoots with Amon, I think he is exhibiting signs of extreme obsession and ptsd all directed at Amon and anyone who stands in his way of taking down Amon.
Other other limb --
The guy shown doing the badbad thing in the flashback, the defendant I guess, has yellow eyes. Zuko and Azula both had yellow eyes. So did their father, Ozai. Azula was unaccounted for at the end of the original series. She also worshiped her father and looked down on others. Ozai had his bending forcibly removed by Aang, and he was allowed to live. This whole anti-bending movement could have been started by Ozai after the original series, carried on by Azula later, and then Azula's child is Amon. It has never really been stated that Amon is NOT a bender. He has certainly mastered the spirit world powers. He may just choose to hide his (fire?) bending abilities as it is convenient for him right now. Once his movement succeeds and he takes over, he is going to subdue any bender who disagrees with him, and bring his family (Ozai/Azula/etc) back into prominence. His he will no longer hide his bending ability at this point, so he can oppress both benders AND nonbenders alike to retain his new position. He is playing everyone against each other so that he can get what he wants. The biggest problem with this is that Amon is way too chill to be related to Azula or Ozai... His mindset seems to be more like the introspective, calmness of an airbender on a dark mission.

Date: 2012-06-03 06:42 pm (UTC)But yeah, I'm like 90% sure Amon is going to end up being a bender. Not to knock non-benders or anything, but its one thing to hit the right chi points to temporarily block bending, but it would take a whole different type of power altogether to take it away completely.
But yeah, I forgot Tarlokk seemed kinda offended when Korra compared him to Amon, which I don't think he would be if they were in cahoots. Given that Amon wears a mask, if he's not a character we the audience have already seen on LoK itself, or an older version of someone from the original show, at the very least I'm sure he's someone the characters on the show would recognize. The fire nation characters from the original show seem to be far too absent so far for there not to be some connection to the show already that the audience may not be aware of yet.
