Frickin' frick, its frickin' cold out there!!

Saw Stranger than Fiction with the usual suspects on Saturday. It was surprisingly good. I enjoyed it, it was sweet and funny.

Sunday, I was pleasantly surprised to find out people were coming over for an early b-day thing. I think they wanted it to be more of a surprise, but I kinda threw a wrench in there by going to church at 10am rather than 5pm. So the roomie let me know around 3 that people would be over later and with a big samich! So who showed up? The roomie, of course. But then [livejournal.com profile] psyched_out and his wife and kid, [livejournal.com profile] clevemire, c-note, [livejournal.com profile] zarathrustra94, [livejournal.com profile] turdburgler and ND. No B, and T was apparently supposed to show up, but he didn't.

Anyways, as usual just ate and hung out. Didn't do much else but watch the telly, which I suppose is very appropriate for me. Nothing new on, just Arrested Development re-runs on g4, Pulp Fiction, and VH-1's "Big in '06". Speaking of, Weird Al's "White and Nerdy" is actually hard to follow without the visual references from the video. But still, it was fun, and again, it was a nice surprise.

Ah, just got into work a few minutes ago on this cold, dreary day. Luckily, although today was my birthday, the celebrating was done yesterday, where the weather wasn't so bad. So, yesterday, woke up, went to church, and got back a few hours before the festivities were set to begin. The roomie cooked a bunch of burgers and sausages. Actually, since I'm a big burger fan, he made modified homemade coronary bypasses. A burger with a big beef patty, two types of cheese, a fried egg, bacon, slice of pepperoni, and mayo. Sounds gross, but so good! There was supposed to be sausage on that as well, but everyone scarfed up the sausages. And who is everyone? You know, the usual suspects, as well as some peeps from the asian crew, and the poker crew. Alas, some could not make it. But yeah, lots of food was had, so between this and the Fires of Brazil trip, it was a good eating weekend.

Tried that Time's up game. Its pretty neat! [livejournal.com profile] phatjoe can prolly correct me if I have the rules wrong, but basically the game is this: you have a bunch of cards with names of famous peeps on it. And the purpose of each round (of which there are three) is for you and your partner to get as many cards as you can under the time limit. Beforehand, everyone gets five cards, and they choose to discard two. I'm not sure what the best strategy for which ones to get rid of. But everyone puts the remaining cards in the pile to make the deck for the game. In the first round, you csn't pass a card, but you can do anything, save saying the actual name on the card (or spelling it out) to get your partner to figure it out, and you see how many cards you can get within the time limit. Then after all of the cards are won, the number of cards each group gets is recorded and the cards are put back together into a deck. The second round, you are limited to a one word clue, but you can also hum tunes and gesture. The third, no words at all, only gesturing and humming. Of course, clues peeps used in the first round influence the kinda clues used in the previous rounds. Like say, Charles Lindburgh was one of the answers. And the first round people give clues about his flying accomplishments. The next two rounds, if you and your partner remember he was the only pilot in the deck, one can just say pilot, or plane for their one word, and on the third round making flying gestures of plane sounds. It was fun. I think my insane memory helps. Because once you know everyone in the deck, the clues become easier to figure out.

Anyways, like I said, yesterday was good- good food, good folks, lots of fun. Combined with the carnivorousness and stripper-ogling of Saturday, it was an awesome weekend. The only thing missing was a spot of violence. You know, a bar brawl, or getting to shoot up shit. Then it would've been the best weekend ever!

For my b-day last night, hit Nakato with Bob, [livejournal.com profile] psyched_out and his woman, [livejournal.com profile] clevemire, C-note, [livejournal.com profile] dashoka, the roomie, [livejournal.com profile] zarathrustra94, and [livejournal.com profile] turdburgler. It was a good time. The food was good. And with good portions. The last few japanese steakhouses I went to, they were skimpy with the portions, so this was good. Had I known, I might not have ordered some sushi on the side. Okay, I prolly still would have, because in addition to my normal meat cravings, I was feeling like some sushi. Took a couple of pics, but unfortunately they didn't come out to good since I was just using the camera feature on the sidekick II. Of course, I'm also a lousy picture taker, so its prolly those two factors combined. Came back to the apt and had some chocolate cake. So all in all, it was a fun b-day. Today has been a lazy day. Slept in, but given I only slept like three hours the previous two nights, I don't think it was that bad of a thing. Its been a pretty quiet day.

smealgolv('Because its my birthday!') Just killing time at work. Church at 530 should be cool, they're getting together a super music group for it, so that should be pretty rocking. Oh, just got my sidekick ii from amazon, and it is so fetch! Of course, my belt is pretty heavy now, with the hiptop on one side, and the pock-it with a maglite and leatherman supertool on the other. Anyways, its working out pretty good. Got the terminal, so now I can connect to my net stuff 24/7! Fooled around with camera a bit, mailed some of the pics to my livejournal gallery. Its nothing exciting, just a pic of rufus and my station at work. But with the camera phone, I can fool around with this lj gallery feature. How long has this been around?! I only noticed it like last week, but according to the community, its been around since at least the beginning of November or October. Was I just dense?!

Hey, I'm one year older now! Anyhoo, Dad woke me up when he called to wish me happy b-day. Got a call from moms later. Finished the cleaning binge I had started last night, vacuuming up the apartment. Sis came over during that, saying I shouldn't be cleaning on my b-day. But youse know how obsessive compulsive I can get about getting things neat. And apparently she's got a new car, an RSX. Pretty sweet ride. And hey, she's wising up and getting a spoiler, because you can't have a sports car without a spoiler!

Went to dinner with the usual suspects, to the Istanbul Cafe. It was cool, the food was interesting and they had a cute belly dancer girl. Headed back home for some cake and drinks and some more peeps showed up. Reminisced about the good old days and the wacky misadventures we had back in college. Most of the stories were from freshman year way back in '94. That did have to one of the best years I had in college. But it was fun seeing everyone who showed up, it was a good time.

After most everybody left, the guys started up a small hold 'em tournament. I actually joined in for that. Did well initially, busting out Bill and Charlie at one point. But alas, my luck ran out and Joseph ended up busting me out. Learned some valuable lessons though. I don't see myself playing again any time soon, but its good stuff to know for future reference.

Owel, just watching the extra features of X-2 then "Drive" with Brittany Murphy, Kadeem Hardison, and Mark Dacascos (Mani from Brotherhood of the Wolf) right now. I remember seeing that movie years ago and thinking it was awesome. Seeing it now, it is amusing, and had some decent martial arts action, but its not that great. Though its yet another movie where Brittany Murphy plays a crazy-ditzy girl well. Anyways, prolly gonna drift off to bed soon. Definitely a good b-day today.

Had a little birthday suaree over at Chris' for Tara and my b-days last night. It was a great time. Chris fired up the grill, and there was of course "refreshing libation"! Krug also baked goodies all day before the party. Anyways, the usual suspects came. Even Bob and Jegger and his fiancee showed up. Of course, didn't end up leaving Chris' until 3am this morning. And since he lives off way up 400, Krug and I wouldn't get back for a while. Especially since we had to drop Grant and Tara off. Got to bed by 445. But I knew in advance that this might happen, and since I had four extra hours from last week, I didn't have to come in until 11am. No problems waking, no hangover or anything, so that was fortuitous.

Humdrum day at work. Actually, just a few little problems that have been taken care of. Alas, there's nothing interesting on right now. Just saw Bachelor Party on FX. Funny movie, in a sophomoric kinda way. But that's me, sophomoric. Tara was saying on the way home last night that I can never be serious. I can be like mature and serious! Really! Okay, I guess I could stand to grow up a little.

Owel, went out last night for my berf-day with [livejournal.com profile] psyched_out and his wifey, Krug, Tara, and Bob. We went to this place called the "Vietnam House" on Buford to try out their "7 Courses of Beef" special. It was good. Only the guys got it though, I guess it was too much beef for the little womenfolk! Anyways, it was a good time. Hadn't seen Bob since the last 2601 party, and I don't see Scott and Sato that much nowdays after we all moved. So we just caught up on old times, fondly reminiscing about the good old days and discussing what we heard about who from the old Glenn gang was doing what. We were actually there for a while. And we were the only customers in the place for most of the time there. We finally left and went our separate ways. Tara hung out with me and Krug a little longer. Nothing special, we just watched the South Park eps on the PVR that they hadn't seen yet.

berf-day

So December fifth was my berf-day. spv('That would be a birthday') Got a call from my mom at 630am. It kinda freaked me out, I forgot for the moment it was my birthday and didn't expect it. But I kicked myself afterwards once I realized it was just my mom wishing me a happy birthday.

Oh well, had b-day dinner at the spag fac with Scott, Sato, Bob, Chris, and w00ter. Krug and Holli were invited, but Krug has a class run late and Holli had a final the next day. People still in school. cliffV('What's up with that?!') Anyways, it was a fun time. Got there 730, but unfortunately there was a 45 min wait! So we had some drinks at the bar while we waited. Finally got a table, slow service. I had the hearty meaty combo (Pascetti w/ 3 meatballs and an italian sausage) I expected to have some left over, but I finished it. Owel, we ended up being there until 10, a lot later than any of us expected.

Got to work, Godfather II was playing so I started asking qs that got me on a hour long conversation w/ Todd about the JFK assassination. Mob ties to the CIA sound pretty cool.

Just finished watching this TV-movie called "Naked City: Justice with a Bullet" Crazy! It was these two stories where this one cop has a contract on his life, and these two Ohio girls go to the big city and hilarity ensues. Hilarity in that they get caught up with a bunch of drug dealers and managed to shoot and kill like four of them. It was all in self defense, but its kinda silly, really. I can believe the first shooting, where robin tunney kills that guy who was trying to rape her friend from Law & Order: CI. But then when his enemy goes after them because they took some of his money, L&O:CI chick grabs the MP5 of one of the baddies, shoots randomly, killing one of them, who in turn blows the other two baddies away in his death throes with his MAC-10!

Owel, its not quality TV, but its passable for the middle of the night.
