Frickin' frick, its frickin' cold out there!!

Saw Stranger than Fiction with the usual suspects on Saturday. It was surprisingly good. I enjoyed it, it was sweet and funny.

Sunday, I was pleasantly surprised to find out people were coming over for an early b-day thing. I think they wanted it to be more of a surprise, but I kinda threw a wrench in there by going to church at 10am rather than 5pm. So the roomie let me know around 3 that people would be over later and with a big samich! So who showed up? The roomie, of course. But then [livejournal.com profile] psyched_out and his wife and kid, [livejournal.com profile] clevemire, c-note, [livejournal.com profile] zarathrustra94, [livejournal.com profile] turdburgler and ND. No B, and T was apparently supposed to show up, but he didn't.

Anyways, as usual just ate and hung out. Didn't do much else but watch the telly, which I suppose is very appropriate for me. Nothing new on, just Arrested Development re-runs on g4, Pulp Fiction, and VH-1's "Big in '06". Speaking of, Weird Al's "White and Nerdy" is actually hard to follow without the visual references from the video. But still, it was fun, and again, it was a nice surprise.

Finally beat Sugoruku on my 3rd try to unlock Okuni. I realized, doing 5000g and small board, as long as you don't run into a bit of bad luck, you just have to collect your flags and return home more times than your opponent. So I cheated by picking Mitsuhide, who has his flags appear close together, and then picked opponents who I knew had flags spread across the board (Sakon, Yoshiro, and Date) Thus. just went around the board thrice collecting my flags and buying whatever I landed on if it was available, and occasionally making a challenge if it would link a territory.

A lot of this game is based on luck- not getting anything crappy at the shrines, and particularly getting favorable conditions for challenges. The second time I'd played the game, two of the challenges were ridiculously easy for my opponent- one I got "destroy" against Yoshiro, with his high att could easily destroy more boulders and faster, and the other I got "reveal" against him. His single triangle attack, he just slams his mallet straight down in the ground, which they say is the best move in the game for killing those ninjas that hide in the ground. And what kind of game is "reveal"? Frickin' killing as many of those kind of ninjas, so he had like 4 times as many kills as I did, since he could take out huge groups of them with every attack. Its total BS!

Owel, Okuni's actually pretty fun. Her moveset is lousy at first, but gets better as you play. And interestingly enough, even though she doesn't have her own story mode, she has unique conversations with player-type generals. So that's pretty cool, as the conversations can be pretty funny. And weird, in Anegawa Azai side, you actually get to fight the Mino Three (which you can normally only do if you're Oichi) and after you save Nagamasa, he almost confuses you for Oichi. Heh, her banter with the two of them is pretty amusing. But she is a notorious flirt. I'd be interested in playing all the boards with her just to see what dialogue you get. I know in Kyushu, she actually talks about saving the island. I haven't played any other boards yet where she acknowledges the board's main mission, though I'm curious if there are others. I would think there would be more.
