Those of you who know me could prolly guess the jokes that made me laugh loudest on Community and 30 Rock.
Community- Finding out that Joshua was secretly racist. HA!
30 Rock- Cerie telling her method of chasing of old guys trying to hit on her by asking them, "Who's younger, me or your daughter?" and then Pete telling Lemon that that wouldn't work on him. HA!
Vampire Diaries- Hey, its Bela from Supernatural! You know, I thought she was fake British on Supernatural, because she was born here in the states, but apparently, no, the accent is real, as she moved to the UK when she was young. You can do that?! Why would you want to? Well, not knocking the UK, just why would you want to leave the states?
Now, this being a show revolving around a love triangle, obviously there's heated debated over which Salvatore brother should be with Elena. Now granted, I can understand people disbelieving Elena could ever really love Damon, as he was a pretty evil monster when we're first introduced to him. And for some people, all those people he killed, those times he messed with her friends, to them they feel those are all unforgivable acts and would be pretty angry if Elena chose him. Which is fair. But what I think is insane is people who think Damon doesn't really love her and how it rings false. Are they watching the same show? He is totally whipped by her!
Onto the actual plot. Let's get the B (or was it C?) plot out of the way first. So Damon warns Caroline to keep mum about their secret, and not to reveal their vampiness to Tyler. So she acts like Tyler was under stress and he just imagined that she seemed to know what was going on with him. But, she feels sorry for him as he's obviously freaked out and he keeps pestering her. Heh, her throwing him around like a ragdoll makes him think she's a werewolf too, since he's not really aware of the whole vampire thing. (heh, when he's all "Say it! You're a Werewolf!", was that a dig at Twilight?) She eventually reveals that she's a vampire to him, but doesn't give him any details about the situation in Mystic Falls.
Anyways, the brain trust apparently didn't notice Elena was missing until the next day, since the Germ just assumed she made up with Stefan and slept over there, while Stefan obviously thought she got home safely. They eventually figure out she's been kidnapped, and set off to rescue her. Bonnie does a few spells to help, but it definitely starts taking a toll on her. When getting a secret message to Elena that Damon and Stefan are coming to save her (speaking of, how amusing was it that they were drinking blood bags on their road trip like it was a juice box or capri sun or something?), she passes out and Jeremy freaks out. When she awakes, the Germ questions her about it, and she reveals that just like with what happened to her Grams, magic eventually takes its toll on her, but she's too scared of her enemies (or who she thinks are enemies, like Damon) to stop, plus she's needed. So, she begs him to keep mum about this.
So who kidnapped Elena? A pair of vamps, Trevor and Rose (played by Bela), who apparently want to use her as a bargaining chip with the "originals", the first vamps. Trevor pissed them off back in the day, and Rose is wanting to quit running, and hoping Elena can buy their freedom.
From what we can piece together, Elena is a "Petrova doppleganger", and she can be used to break the vampire curse if she's sacrificed. Turns out Kat was originally a doppleganger also. But for whatever reason, Trevor somehow messed that up, perhaps by turning her so she couldn't be sacrificed? And Rose had his back, so they both became persona non grata. Anyways, Rose contacts an original, Elijah, apparently he's the one they directly offended. Her hope is that Elena is a big enough prize to get amnesty.
Elijah is smart enough to know that when he's called to a place that's a stone's throw away from mystic falls, that the reason he was called here had to do with Katherine. He suspected that the whole tomb thing was BS, but what he didn't know was the existence of a new doppleganger, one who was still human. But argh, Rose is an idiot. Before she reveals anything to Elijah, she makes him say he will forgive them and they will be safe, and that she believes him to be a man of honor and trusts that he would not renege on that deal. He is a man of honor, sure, but what the hell, it was obvious when he was all, "No harm shall come to you", that Trevor was toast! She should know that evil bad guys that are "men of honor" always pull such tricky wordplay!
So, after he shows her Elena, he forgives Trevor. Then quickly decapitates him with his bare hands! But lucky for Elena, the brothers show up to save her. Even though Elijah is pretty old and powerful, they manage to stake him. But it turns out once you're that old and powerful, things don't affect you as much. The vervain grenade that Alaric provided only slowed down Elijah for a few seconds. And Elijah actually springs to life after being staked a few hours later, not that the gang knows since they just left him hanging there! WTF?! They shoulda decapitated him and burned the body just to be sure! So now they have an original vamp gunning for them!
But getting back to the conflict. Its Damon who delivered the killing blow, and when he sees Elena on the stairs looking all thankful, he looks so happy that he's the hero and will be appropriately rewarded. But then he's crushed (how deliciously cruel!) when he realizes she's running to his brother. She does notice his sadness and does mouth a silent thank you to him, which he accepts.
Later, he shows up in her room to give her back her Vervain necklace (which Elijah had taken from her), but doesn't give her it back just yet. She freaks out, because she knows what's coming, that he's gonna reveal that he loves her and then just make her forget. But its more than that. After confessing his love, he says he can't be with her, as his brother is more deserving of her love, so he's gonna back off. Then he chastely kisses her on the forehead and then compels her to forget the whole convo. Seriously though, between this and the rescue scene, how can you not feel sorry for the guy and root for him?
Although the whole compelling thing, I would think making her forget, then placing the necklace around her neck would totally freak her out! I mean, surely she would realize she lost a few minutes, and while all he did was confess his love to her before wiping her mind, what is she gonna think? One of the brothers came by and gave it to her, but they just wrapped it around her neck and ran away without saying anything? That's not creepy, and who knows what they might have done to her before erasing her memory!
Oh, looks like Rose might be sticking around for at least another ep, as she shows up at the Salvatore manse, as Lexi had told her that Stefan was trustworthy. Perhaps she will start informing the gang more about all this jazz?
