Had dinner with the usual suspects at Eats. Don't think any of us had been there in a while. Though it does seem same old, same old.

TV Commentary:

You know, I watched the Hellcats pilot last week, but contrary to [livejournal.com profile] clevemire's belief that I'll continue to watch, I don't think I will. I mean, for a show about cheerleaders, they could use hotter girls as the leads (no offense to Keeley and Sharpay!). Plus none of the prospective couples seem all that interesting to me, so there's nothing I see "shipping". And Keeley is kinda a bitch to her mom, so you don't even get nice familial relationship stuff.

Life Unexpected- Wow, some significant changes in S2. Though one thing that annoys me about TV sometimes is when you have people sharing significant looks in front of people they shouldn't. i.e., they secretly like each other, or are secretly seeing each other, but they're with other people, or its a forbidden romance, like one's a student and the other's a teacher, or wot-not. But then they look at each other all soulfully in plain view of other people, particularly people that it would cause a big can of worms to open up if those other people notice. That being said, for some reason, even though such looks are quite overt, these other people are for some reason oblivious. Like Lux and teacher guy, they're staring at each other in full view of Math. And given his stalker-y tendencies towards her mother, you'd think he'd notice and report the guy and/or tell Baze. (Oh, and why don't more people think its creepy that Math is so familiar with Lux? I mean, yeah, she's the daughter of his bust friend, but she's also the daughter and almost mini-me version of the girl he had the biggest crush on in HS? Shouldn't him always hanging out with her daughter be kinda weird?)

Anyways, Lux and the newlyweds come back from the Honeymoon (and its still weird they took her along) and she goes to see Bug who insanely proposes to her. And Ryan and Cate find out they have a new goody-goody conservative born again virgin/Christian type as their co-host. Heh, meanwhile, Ryan's been moping around this whole time, though apparently he's been hanging out with his father more, so that's cool, I like that those fences are mending. But alas, he has no idea that Lux was the one who encouraged Cate to marry Ryan, so he's thinking she was on his side this whole time. She does at least look really guilty when not-Math roommate tells her how Baze thinking that is what helped him get through this mess.

Baze eventually gets Cate alone to talk, and throws out the whole he loves her thing. Which she's like, "Duh, obviously, I saw you barge into my wedding but thankfully not create a scene!" And then she drops the Lux bomb, so he's all sad and ends up banging their new bartender, who we later find out is Ryan's sister, Paige, played by the babealcious Arielle Kebbel.

Meanwhile, with Lux waiting at the bar for Baze, some guy new to town shows up, and of course they hit it off, and she ends up spending all night with him to go see the ocean since she's freaking out over the Bug proposal. And as mentioned earlier, she finds out at the end he's her teacher. How Pretty Little Liars-ish! In his defense though, since she was behind the bar and was cutting up limes, he assumed she was working there and therefore old enough to be serving alcohol. And he did seem kinda young and goofy, I can believe Lux thought he was someone pretending to be older as opposed to being actually older. So unlike the Aria-Fitz thing, its not like teacher guy was obviously older than her so she has room to be totally shocked to find out he is her teacher. Anyways, they never actually get to the ocean since he ran out of gas and she couldn't get a cell signal so her phone's battery died. But they do end up hanging out on top of a billboard with a fake ocean and share a kiss. Its weird though, that they think the people they asked for gas just abandoned them, but apparently they eventually came back. That shoulda taken a couple of hours at most, how were they gone all night? Then again, I guess if he was taking her to see the ocean, I don't actually know how long it takes to get from Portland to the Pacific, so maybe that is a ways out. Though if that's the case, what kinda crazy person hops into a car with someone they just met for a longish trip?

But while she's out with him, she lies to Cate and Baze and says she's with the other (and then later lies and says she stayed at Bug's when they catch her lie). When Paige leaves in the morning, post-coitus, she accidentally tosses a cigarette into the garbage, causing a fire at the bar. Well, I guess she didn't accidentally toss the cigarette in, she meant too, she just didn't mean for it to cause a fire. But I digress.

Naturally, when Math calls Cate about the bar (since she wasn't taking Baze's calls) they freak out when the bar's on fire and think Lux might be inside. Baze runs in and succumbs to minor burns and smoke inhalation, so Lux feels incredibly guilty that she kinda screwed Baze over in regards to Cate, and meanwhile, he's running into burning buildings to save her.

But in the end, they seem to have made up, and it seems Baze is totally cool about everything that's happened, he doesn't fault Lux for anything. Plus, given everything that's happened, it seems like he's wanting to turn over a new leaf and be the kinda man his dad, and Lux and Cate can be proud of.

As for Cate, given she left in the middle of the show because of the fire, it was the final nail in the coffin. Boss lady already doesn't like her, and the radio station has been wanting to shake things up to raise their flagging ratings, so she's canned. At least there's no tension between her and Ryan for staying. I guess since they're married now, they can't both be out of a job, so he has to stay on.

Oh, and apparently there's a mysterious Julia that sent Ryan and Cate a wedding gift that he lies about knowing well. I guess they had to add her to make Ryan seem shady as he's currently Mr. Perfect and it would just make Cate seem like a total bitch if she even considers Baze over him. Cate apparently already knows Paige, so I'm kinda curious to see what everyone's reactions will be when they find out who she is and that she accidentally burned down the bar.
