Your love's a drug

Gossip Girl- This show! Just when I couldn't be any less interested in anything going on in this show, they throw in a few Dair breadcrumbs and sucker me back in. Seriously, this show always does this, they'll have those two interact and make it seem like there may be something about to go on there, but then they don't share any scenes for several episodes. It always end up being a big tease. I mean, given recent developments, this would be the perfect time to explore that pairing, but I doubt the writers ever will.
Anyways, this ep voices the main reason I've never been too keen on Chuck and Blair. To me, it always seemed like they were settling for each other, that they're so broken and messed up that no one else would have them. And to me, that's just sad, not romantic. So, I liked the developments this ep, first when she totally misinterprets Dan's words of encouragement about how she and Chuck are great together as "she and Chuck are the only ones who will have each other" and tries to get past things. But then with the wedding stuff and Blair admitting she's not happy and not wanting to her and Chuck to be the ones who give Dorota and Vanya away because she doesn't want to jinx their upcoming nuptials? I felt quite sad for Blair. And for Chuck, since he just wasn't getting it.
I mean, this whole time he thought Blair actually did sleep with Jack and that's part of the reason they were in a fight?! WTF?! How could he think what he did evens out because she went to offer herself to Jack? I mean, she did what she did because she was desperate, she saw how Chuck was losing the one thing he had been working so had for. And he manipulated her into doing it! I mean, he was basically saying, my gf is a manipulative whore, she'd do Jack to help me out. Which is already bad. But its not like he told her to, or didn't tell her to. He just let events play out, wanting her to do it, but purposely not asking her because he figured she would only do it if she came up with it on her own.
So Blair finally lays it out for him, they've had their games, and it was all fun and sexy, but that's not the future she wants for herself. So they break up, and Chuck gets with the nearest whore, while Dan hangs out with Blair and cheers her up. Seriously, could Dan and V be any more boring right now? I mean, talk about uninteresting. But with a likely upcoming fight with both of them going for the Tish fellowship, and Blair newly single, what better time for V and Lonelyboy to break up and him and Queen B to start hanging out together and it turn into something more, what with S busy with the whole finding her dad thing (and eventually finding out Lily's been seeing him because she's dying) and Nate busy fending off Jenny's advances.
But yeah, as I said, I wouldn't mind them not going the Dair route if they didn't tease us with their chemistry. And not just between them! I mean, Eleanor asking Dan to refill the ice bowl could be read as kinda bitchy, but I don't think it was meant as such. There's a familiarity there, despite her words, its not like she really thinks he's beneath her, particularly given her relationship with little J and her friendliness with Rufus. And then in the end, after Dan and Blair have a dance and he's having shots with her and her mom and Cyrus?
Like I said, the potential for that is the only thing keeping me watching right now. Like this ep, I could care less about little J and Carter's separate machinations to try and break up Serena and Nate, or Eric's new bisexual love interest. I mean, its good to see him get a plot, but I'm getting a bad vibe off this new guy. I mean, I did like the whole thing with Eleanor coming to the realization that Dorota is family and recognizing all Dorota has done in raising Blair, and I suppose I am happy for Dorota and Vanya. And I guess I am curious to see how this Lily dying thing plays out.
Life Unexpected- That was an interesting season finale. Or at least I assume that was the season finale. (and hopefully not the series finale!) So the adoption gets finalized. And given what Lux has seen, and the high of her, Cate, and Baze becoming a real family, she starts to encourage Baze to make a move, and starts acting cold towards Ryan. I think she does like/care for Ryan, but Baze is her actual father, and I think part of that coldness is her trying to make a clean break from him if her birth parents actually got together.
Anyways, of course, everything that could go wrong with the wedding does. Abby getting food poisoning, the rehearsal dinner place falling through, drunk parents, the station wanting Cate and Ryan to sign a contract stating they'll be together for at least the next 5 years. Which I can see why they'd do given the events of this past season. Heh, Baze's attempts to avoid anything Cate and/or wedding related fail, since he gets stuck having to host the rehearsal dinner.
Baze's dad stopped by, and we learn they hadn't spoken since the turtle racing night, and his dad is pretty pissed when he finds out they adopted Lux and they didn't bother to tell him. So their on the outs. Then the genius tells Cate that Lux doesn't want her to marry Ryan because she's holding out hope that her birth parents end up together. Which, seriously, is an asshole thing to do to your daughter, to use her as some sort of emotional manipulation to get with her mom.
Of course Lux sets Cate straight, stating Baze has feelings for her, which combined with Baze acting all weird and leaving her awkward voicemails, causes her to confront Baze. He of course denies it. So now she thinks it was all imagined, and she's a self sabotager and she only thought Baze liked her because she was looking for an excuse to frak up her wedding.
So, Baze confronts his father and lays into him how its his dad's fault he couldn't tell Cate he loved her, because he doesn't think he's worthy of her, because his dad always told him he's worthless. His dad admits he doesn't know why he berates Baze instead of admitting he misses him very much, but they work things out and are cool again, and his dad tells him to go tell Cate how he feels rather than missing his chance and living with regret.
Meanwhile, Ryan confront Lux on her coldness (which she claims is because so many big things keep on happening), and the weirdness with everybody, and finally realizes with the adoption and the family time Lux has been spending with Cate and Baze, maybe she's not ready for Cate to marry someone else and break up the little family unit they've been establishing. Even though he wants to be part of it, he realizes he's not related to her, so trooper that he is, tells her he is willing to postpone the wedding if Lux is uncomfortable.
But when she finds out Baze chickened out, she tells Cate to marry Ryan, and tells Cate how Baze will never be the guy they both hope he will be, but the thing she has with Ryan is real. Baze fights traffic and other things to get there, and he arrives just in time for Ryan to kiss the bride. And everyone's looking expectantly at this weird who just showed up loudly in the middle (well, the end) of the ceremony. But I think Cate is trying to move forward, so she kisses Ryan and the church erupts in applause (I guess choosing to ignore the guy in the back standing their awkwardly). Though Lux sees how crushed her dad is, and realized Baze has changed and is all conflicted now, particularly since she pushed Cate to stiick with Ryan. I'm curious to see what happens of this!
24- Okay, I haven't watched the whole ep yet, but I did sneak a peak at the TWoP forums to get a hint of what to expect. And after reading the comments, I'm not sure I want to finish up the episode. Dammit. One, I can't believe they did that, and two, its the number one thing that totally freaks me out in these kinda shows. No, not the unexpected "person gets run down mid-sentence" thing (that's actually the number 2 thing that freaks me out). But its along those same lines, and kinda ironic, given what MOS I'd want to be if I were ever in the military. I mean, its ultra-paranoid of me to expect such things as often as I do, and it always stresses me out when I think a scene is gonna play out like that. So knowing that it actually does happen, I'm like too chicken to see it.
