Damn, there's too much TV on Monday at 8. HIMYM on CBS, Chuck on NBC, House on Fox, and Life Unexpected on CW. And they're all tier one/two shows for me. Speaking of, I had Flashforward as Tier 2?! Weird. That's been bumped down to Tier 3. But Community has definitely graduated to Tier 2, so it evens out. Actually, Life Unexpected didn't exist when this list was made, but it would be Tier 2. And Gossip Girl is danger of dropping down to Tier 2. Actually, I will drop it to two, because the current storylines aren't that interesting to me, and it doesn't seem like that will improve any time soon. And since Dollhouse is dunzo, its gone from the list. Here's the new list (this time with cable shows thrown in)
Tier 1- These are my "can't miss" shows. Like if I had to cut down my television watching (obviously under some sort of duress), these are the shows I would try my damndest to not give up: (and unlike my usual lists, where I'm all, "not in any particular order", this tier is in exactly that order)
Lost (60)
Glee (60)
How I Met Your Mother (30)
The Office (30)
30 Rock (30)
Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia (30)
Friday Night Lights (60)
Tier 2- These are the shows where I'm heavily invested in the storylines, but if I missed a week of TV (like I got captured by aliens or was stranded somewhere without tv or internet, which would be my worst nightmare. Well, if that same place was also full of dirt and bugs), I wouldn't watch them until I was caught up on the Tier 1 shows.
Gossip Girl (60)
Fringe (60)
Supernatural (60)
Chuck (60)
Parks and Recreation (30)
Community (30)
House (60)
True Blood (60)
Venture Brothers (30)
Burn Notice (60)
Leverage (60)
Psych (60)
White Collar (60)
Doctor Who (60)
Torchwood (or is this dunzo?) (60)
Dexter (60)
10 Things I Hate About You (30)
Tier 3- These are shows I watch regularly and enjoy well enough, but I wouldn't be that upset if I had to miss them. I mean, if there was an emergency, I wouldn't first make sure they were scheduled to be recorded on the DVR before I had to rush off to pick up a stranded person or have to go to the hospital like I would for the first two tiers.
Vampire Diaries (60)
Bones (60)
Law & Order: Special Victims Unit (60)
NCIS (60)
Human Target (60)
Caprica (60)
Make It or Break It (60)
Flashforward (60)
V (60)
Archer (30)
Robot Chicken (30)
Family Guy (30)
American Dad (30)
The Cleveland Show (30)
South Park (30)
90210 (60)
24 (60)
Degrassi: The Next Generation (30)
Curb Your Enthusiasm (30)
The Closer (60)
Royal Pains (60)
In Plain Sight (60)
Sarah Silverman Show (30)
Important Things With Demetri Martin (30)
Tier 4- These are the shows I catch weekly, but its no skin off my back if I miss them.
One Tree Hill (60)
NCIS: Los Angeles (60)
Smallville (60)
Secret Life of the American Teenager (60)
Law & Order (60)
But I digress, at least there's only 2 shows I watch at 9 (Gossip Girl and 24), and none at 10 (don't watch Castle or Damages, and I only catch up with L&O when I'm bored. It'll show up on TNT re-runs eventually)
TV Commentary:
House- Okay, pretty funny ep tonight. Particularly the whole Chase "I'm pretty?" thing and the Wilson in a porno thing. No, he wasn't an actual porn actor, he acted in a student film of some friend back in college, and the guy re-cut it as a porn, using some other actor for the porn stuff. Why the hell is House renting some old porn anyways? As for the Chase thing, his talks with 13, hopefully that's just them being friends, because that would be weird if they hooked those two up. I mean, she's already kinda Cameron 2, that would make it all the more. And wouldn't it be awkward given the whole Foreman thing?
But ah, I knew the reason House was reading such a book was because it was written by his real dad!
Gossip Girl- as I said, I just can't get into these new storylines, which is bad given there hasn't been a new ep since last year. I mean, the Jenny Drug Dealer thing, Rufus possibly going to have an affair because Lily kissed her ex-husband while they were engaged, Nate and Serena navigating their new relationship, Dan pining over Vanessa again? Eh. And the whole Chuck's mom being alive, I assume that locket pic at the end means it is indded her. I dunno how I feel about that. As he said, that was such an integral part of his history, particularly his relationship with his dad. I mean, if he didn't kill his mom in childbirth, why was his dad such a dick to him all those years? And why did she leave? I'm willing to see where they go with it though.
Life Unexpected- Ah, finally, Ryan and Baze talk it out and clear the air. Like I said, Baze had a legitimate gripe, that he felt Ryan was horning in on his fatherly roles, and he just didn't want to be pushed out and have Ryan and Cate and Lux be this new insta-family. But of course, given Baze and Cate's history, obviously Ryan would feel threatened and suspect that something is going on between them. Well, I guess something did, but it seems like he and Cate may be able to figure things out better now that things have been cleared up between Baze and Ryan.
Heh, I can see why Baze would like Jones, because he was Jones back in the day. Though I can't believe he thought making that deal with Jones to take Lux on a date-ish excursion to see Tosh wouldn't blow up in his face. I mean, how would he feel if his dad secretly set him up on some date and gave the person all this inside info on him in exchange for fixing their car.
Now, obviously Jones did like her, and the car thing was just a bonus (go on a date with a cute girl I wanted to already, and get my car fixed for free!? Score!). At first I thought why would he fess up about that, but I guess like he said, he didn't want her finding out some other way down the line and throwing a monkey wrench in things, because he really wants to build something with her. I'm already liking him more than Bug. But after she got ultra-pissed at both him and Baze, I'm glad Ryan was able to talk her down. Yeah, it sucks that Bug and Tosh are gone, but she has the chance to make new friends now (and that doesn't necessarily mean losing old ones), and it was obvious Jones didn't take her just because her dad told him to. Ryan made her see that.
But that gets back to the whole Ryan doing fatherly things thing. He says Lux is a part of his life now, so she's gonna help her out if she asks. I guess since she lived with him for a while when she was at Cate's, they became friends. But with him and Cate separated, there's less of that family there. I mean, there's less chance of him becoming her actual step-father the way things are. Though I guess like I said, they're prolly friends/friendly, and even if she is still mad at Cate, they'll talk it out eventually, and even if the engagement is off, it doesn't look like Ryan and Cate will stop doing the show any time soon so he'll still be around.
24- Ah, this show with its nonsensical twists. So Tarrin is really a traitor?! I mean, while its amusing Hassan was correct even though he was being crazy paranoid, it makes no sense, because as they said, if that attempt on his life was successful, Tarrin would've been killed too!
Or was bomber kid lying? I mean, if he was, that's weird, because it seemed like he was gonna turn himself in, but then the other guys activated his vest remotely and Jack was trying to save him. And he sacrificed himself so that no one else would get blown up with him. So as his second to last act, it would be weird for him to give them false info. I guess he could've been lied to.
And will this stupid Starbuck storyline never end? So Jimmy James is Kevin's parole officer and he's come looking for Kevin, and saw that he called Starbuck several times. And he wants to meet with her immediately?! Its 230 in the morning, and she works for CTU and there's a crisis going on! She's a little busy. I guess he threatened to call her supervisor and she's worried that that will cause trouble for her, and Cole, since he's in this now. But honestly, she could say go ahead, because there's no way Hastings will be all, "CTU is trying to prevent a dirty bomb attack, but if you need to take one of my top analysts to ask her about some random white-trash parolee, sure!" If Jimmy James called and said he needed to speak with Dana immediately, he'd be all, "Frak off, hayseed, we're doing something important here! You can speak to her when the crisis is done!"
But I guess she's worried Jimmy James might say things during that convo that would make Hastings suspicious.

Date: 2010-03-09 02:49 pm (UTC)Archer
the Boondocks
Robot Chicken
Sarah Silverman
Warehouse 13
Criminal Minds and CSI Miami, maybe? Regular CSI? Important Things with Demitri Martin? Eureka? I'm not sure about those. Also, you list South Park twice. I'm surprised at White Collar being placed higher than South Park, considering you've only seen like half the episodes of White Collar so far.
My list would obviously have a bunch more stuff from FX and AMC, ditch the teen dramas, and have Venture Bros. in "tier 1" (though I still feel like tier 1/tier 2 is a completely arbitrary distinction... I'm guessing House is on the upper end of "tier 2," if you bumped it to the bottom of tier 1, it wouldn't change your definitions of either tier)

Date: 2010-03-09 06:11 pm (UTC)And then at the end tally up how many hours worth of shows you watch per week if you caught them all (do you watch any shows that are new daily??).

Date: 2010-03-09 07:02 pm (UTC)I mean, you can say, "But what if they did"? Sure, then it would be like 44 hours total for one part of the year and "0" (well, it wouldn't be "0", because the TV is always on near me, so I'd be catching re-runs) for the rest. So, if you wanted a more accurate number of how much I'd watch year round, some of those shows would have to "share" hours. It would still be pretty high, I bet in the 25 to 35 range.
