Yesterday, saw "Taken" with
clevemire and C-note. It wasn't too bad. The story was simplistic (white slavers kidnap bad-ass CIA agent's hot daughter and her hot friend b/c foreign countries are dangerous for young snowflakes apparently, so he hunts them all down and kills them and rescues his daughter. oops, spoiler!) and the action could've been better. It was kinda odd though to see Maggie Grace playing 17. I mean, she's around 25 and its not like there aren't a bunch of teen dramas that have actors/actresses in their mid-20s playing teenagers. But she had the gawky teenage thing down pat. She was totally believable as a bratty teenage girl.
I guess its also amusing because Katie Cassidy played her older friend, even though Shannon is the older one. Actually, she and Holly Valance are the same age, and the latter was playing a hottie pop star who's supposed to be around 5 years older than her (I think they said she was only 21 in the movie).
Afterwards, had dinner at Fuddrucker's. And what the hell, the place was apparently overwhelmed they actually put a sign up to prevent further customers from coming in (it wasn't that crowded, those incompetents!) and they were effing everyone's orders up. Like the GMA and C-note got their food, and even though I was right behind them, it took another 20 minutes for me to get my food. And I wasn't the only one. I mean, the time stamp on my ticket was 7:17, and I didn't get my food until 8! Actually, they had a big order that no one was picking up, I should've grabbed some of those for my inconvenience, they ended up throwing it all away anyways!
Watched RocknRolla when I got back. It was more of the same Guy Ritchie London underworld action/comedy, and while there were the usual interweaved plots, it wasn't as Seinfeldian as Snatch or Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. The main character was Gerard Butler, and I can't remember what I was reading the other day, some movie review I think, where they describe someone as a "Gerard Butler"-type. I didn't think he was famous enough to the point where there is a "Gerard Butler"-type.
TV commentary:
What's with the USA shows doing all these football references, but making up teams? Well, I guess Burn Notice referenced the Dolphins, but Monk and Psych made things up. Psych, I can understand since its Santa Barbara, but San Francisco already has a football team! Anyways, its interesting to see in the world of Monk, when its the playoffs, apparently all the police have gone to watch the game, leaving only one person at certain precincts! And WTF?! I figured Natalie only went to the station to keep Randy company, but when he got called in to check the murder scene, why the hell would she stay at the station by herself to watch the upside down TV?! It does not make cents!
Psych was hilarious, as usual. Weird that they had not one but two Ralph Macchio references- one where Gus said he saw him at a Del Taco ("for the record, he wasn't working at the Del Taco!"), and then having his pic up at the Dry Cleaners next to Shawn's pic from when he was in that Telenovela. And while Shawn is always being facetious, I always find it odd how Gus can go either way. Like half the time, he's playing straight man to Shawn's jokes, but other times, he runs with Shawn's stuff and can be just as silly, like when he was all, "It be straight murder, Mon!" and actually doing the Jamaican accent.
