Crap, I had no idear it was break here at Tech. So, I ended up missing church because it was closed for the break. Owel, since that put me and hour and a half early for work, I wandered around campus for a bit. Apparently there was some anime convention at the student center this weekend? I suspected so since there were a bunch of peeps dressed up like Inyuasha and Naruto characters. But, the student center was strangely locked. Turns out someone had set off fireworks inside and they kicked everyone out and closed down the convention.

Ah, they did another time jump on Rome. So Antony and Cleopatra are in love now, and they have a child. And it must be a big jump, because both that child and Octavia's are like old. And Lucius can like talk now and wants to go on adventures with Pullo, who's leader of the Aventine with Gaia as his woman! It always blows me away how radically things can change between eps.

It seems Livia is definitely Octavian's counterpart, as she seems to know exactly why he does things. Though she also seems a little bat-shit. I mean, that talk about birds and banning eggs post-coitus? That was a non-sequitur! His win-win plan to send Octavia and Atia there to plead for the grain was pretty clever. Antony chose the send them away route, causing Julii Cooper to uncharacteristically break down in front of he and Cleo's place. Though it seems like he was also doing them a favor, otherwise Cleopatra would have them killed. Posca and Jocasta leave with them (and who can blame them), and Posca gives Octavian the ammo he needs to get the people behind him for a war against Antony.

Heh, the villifying of Antony was hysterical. I mean, saying Antony was bewitched by the "sorceress" Cleopatra and now he worships dogs and lizards and paints his face like a whore? Ha! But it looks like Octavian wants Casearion dead also, since he was named as a heir to Cleopatra and Antony's "kingdom". Though it seems somehow both Pullo and Vorenus both know he's Pullo's son. How's that? I mean, I can see Pullo guessing that, but how the hell does Vorenus know? I mean, when he's explaining to Caesarion about his father, it was obvious he was describing Pullo, right?

And wow, he didn't kill Memmio, he just kept him locked up in a cage for years. But Memmio gets out and almost kills him, but Gaia saves him, and on her death bed reveals her role in Eirine's death. So, heh, he strangles her and dumps her in the water like yesterday's trash. rjv('cold blooded!')

So, on Galactica the trial is on. Lots of weirdness. First, the cylons are following the fleet via the fuel ship's unique radiation signature. I don't know about that plan about using it as a decoy though. I mean, its their frickin' fuel ship, if it gets destroyed, they're frakked. And they almost killed Racetrack yet again! Skulls was there for two of those almost deaths I guess too. I mean, there's their raptor malfunctioning and crashing into Colonial one, then there was the bomb that killed Baltar's 1st lawyer, and now they almost get eliminated by the Cylons.

And the prez has cancer again and is taking Chamalla Root again as well? So Romo and Apollo (who's quit the military over a tiff with his pops) cast doubts on the witnesses, revealing Tigh's role in his wife's death and unveiling the whole prez cancer thing.

Even weirder, Tigh, Tory, and Anders are like hearing weird music! What the?! And Rosalin has been having weird dreams at the same Opera house Baltar used to see, and Tyrol's been having weird occurances for several eps. That's like the 5 main leaders of the New Caprica resistance! So something's going on there. Are they Cylons? Tigh and Rosalin seem to old to be cylons. Perhaps the cylons did something to them, then?

But Anders is a nugget! I thought it would make sense for him to go into the military after Kara's death. But he was getting a little friendly with Seelix. And what's with the look he shared with Tory?

One thing I have to wonder about movies, where are these theaters that show like old movies?! I mean, one of my biggest pet peeves when you have characters watching some old flick from the 50s or 70s or whenever at some run down movie theater. Its like, do places like that still exist? I would think the big movieplexes have put small theaters just about out of business, and why would they show old flicks when you can just like order them on tape or dvd from the local video store or netflix or something?

We have a dollar theater sorta near the house. They don't show old-old movies, but they show recent movies that have been out of the theater for a while. And Rocky Horror.

Yeah, I've seen theaters do the movies that are a few months old. Which seems pretty useful for people who just didn't get a chance to see a movie when it came out, but want to see it in a theater. But these movies and TV shows have people going to see frickin' "70s martial arts flick" marathons or old movies like "The Last Picture Show" or "Casablancas". I just don't think it would be lucrative.

I think they have theaters like that in New York, and maybe LA... and maybe Austin. I think they appeal to snooty "I don't own a TV" types who also want to seem cool by watching old movies.

There's only about 400,000 things wrong with that last paragraph you wrote but just to quickly summarize...there are "repertory theaters" that do nothing but screen old movies - granted they're in the big big cities - NYC has two very well known ones, the "Anthology Film Archives" and "BAM" (I think there's some additional ones too). The area in Toronto we visited was filled with them too.

That said, arthouse theaters typically show old movies at least some of the time, typically when they get a newly discovered print or its the movie's anniversary or such...I've seen some old movies at Midtown Art next to the Highlander, and of course there are places like Cinefest at Georgia State and the High Museum or even places like the Fox - and Emory is a well-regarded film school, and they show obscure and well-known clasics on a nightly basis - so they exist under your own nose...in fact, I went just a couple of months back to Emory on my own to see a 1939 Japanese film that has never been released on DVD and ran into J-Lo there! Well, not that J-Lo, but the J-Lo we know...
