Jun. 3rd, 2011 08:43 amI guess I can be pretty chauvinist. Like I saw this one chick the other day walking with some of the guys from one of the other groups. And I totally assumed she was like one of their gfs visiting or something. And I come to find out this morning, nope, she's another employee. Oops.
Also, while I am a total banana (and on more than one occasion having forgotten my Asian-ness), I do have some Flip pride. Like I always find it cool to find out some actor or actress is Filipino or part Filipino. I mean, my family went on and on about Charice being on Glee, which is fine and all, but I thought it was pretty cool to find out Blaine was part-Flip.
And I've noticed finding out some chick is part Flip has made them more attractive to me at times. Like I've always liked Vanessa Hudgens and her having Flip ancestry is just gravy. But yeah, Make It or Break It, I always liked "Kelly Parker" because its totally a cute chick name to me, and I'll admit, I dig the meatball head hairstyle. But finding out Nicole Anderson was a Filipina did attract me more. (What's up with her mom on the show being played by Kathy Najimy?! No wonder it was a surprise when they revealed she was Kelly Parker's mother!)
Same for Emily on PLL. I thought she was cute, but for some reason, once I found out she was half Filipino she suddenly got hotter in my eyes. (At least her mother on the show is played by Nia Peeples, who unlike the aforementioned Kathy Najimy and Nicole Anderson, does look like she could be Shay's mother) Even Manny on Degrassi (whom the Pirate Captain on Venture Brothers named his boat after!), I liked her more once I found out she was Filipino and not some kinda Spanish. Not that I don't like Latina chyx, I just felt it was more special that she was one of my kind.
Even pr0n chyx, like Brooke Milano, Michelle Maylene, or Renae Cruz (I know there's another big one I'm missing), I always thought it was cool they had some Filipino in them. (Though disappointing that they don't do "certain things". Well the last one does some of those things, but hasn't done that other thing I like, even though its like, she's gone that far, why not take that extra step) So though it may not seem it, I do have an appreciation for my heritage.
