Wednesday night TV commentary:

Pushing Daisies: What's with all the cleavage in the second ep? Its still cute and quirky, but maybe a little too cute and quirky for its own good. (The show, not cleavage!) Other than that, not much to say. Well, mebbe a little something more. cut for spoilers )

Bionic Woman: Weird, its Andy from Kyle XY playing a bitchy rich-brat. Nice slutty school girl outfit! Anyways, spoiler talk. )

Gossip Girl- Ah, this episode highlighted why I prefer Blair over Serena, and its not because I think Sweet Knees is hotter. (Even though she is) As an aside, at dinner, [livejournal.com profile] clevemire asked me whenever I bring up "Sweet Knees", am I referring to Leighton Meester or Christine Lakin. Well, the easy answer, giving I'm usually using the term when talking about Gossip Girl, is I'm talking about the former. But the long TV-geeky answer is: On Veronica Mars, the name Sweet Knees came up during the PTA inquiry because they found an e-mail between Mr. Rook and an "SK". Since Leighton's character name was "Carrie Bishop", she lied and claimed it stood for "Sweet Knees", because he liked seeing her in knee socks. spcv('Nice!') Of course, SK actually stood for Susan Knight, played by Christine Lakin of Step by Step fame. So its not like she was a Sweet Knees. In any case though, I would refer to Christine as that "Step by Step" chick anyways. I know, you're thinking, weren't there 3 chicks on that show? Four if you count Suzanne Somers. But she of course will always be "Chrissy from Three's Company" or "Ab-roller chick" (or whatever ab exercising device she endorses) or if you really want to be obscure, "She's the Sheriff". Anyways, its like, the brunette daughter hasn't done anything since Step By Step, and the other daughter was played by Staci Keanan, who would be "My Two Dads chick". Amusingly enough, I get her name mixed up with Stacy Keach a lot, which is prolly an even more insane mix-up than Rip Taylor and Rip Torn (is that his given name? Because what are the chances?)

But I digress. spoilerish commentary )

Holy crap, its cool out there. I mean, fall started a while ago, and I was wearing long sleeved shirts the other day, but it only seemed cold in the morning, and I was actually quite warm later in the day. But today, I'm glad I brought a jacket since I went with a short-sleeved t-shirt to wear.

Are all the new shows out this season (well, except for the ones coming mid-season, like the Sarah Connor Chronicles)? One thing I have to say about this TV season, there are too many Chucks. And they're all totally different. Chuck from Chuck is a geek with government secrets stuck in his head, Chuck from Pushing Daisies is a mad cutie brought back from the dead, and Chuck from Gossip Girl is a wealthy playboy hedonist-rapist.

Of the new shows that came out that I watched, I'll have to say my favorite new show of the season is Gossip Girl. (I know, I'm so ghey!) I mean, I like Pushing Daisies, its hilarious and cute, but it can be too out there at times. And I like Chuck and Reaper, but they're essentially the same show. Geek working at a big warehouse-type store suddenly thrust into the role of hero (kinda)? Check. Hottie almost-gf with which to have a will they/won't they/just do it already relationship? Check. Annoying n'er do well best friend? Check. Menacing yet hilarious "that guy" (is Adam Baldwin considered a "That Guy"? Yes he is, according to Fametracker. but Ray Wise apparently isn't! Is he like famous-famous?)? Check. They're more or less done in the same vein.

Bionic Woman is okay. Of course, NBC will make you think its so great, as is Life. Who watches the latter show anyways? Its like Fox and K-Ville, they make it sound like its hot shit in a champagne glass, but isn't everyone tuned into Heroes? Which reminds me of the morning after Cavemen came out, the people on the radio are all, "I watched it and it was so bad!" And they're acting shocked and surprised about it. Like, how did you not know that going in?! Its a frickin' sitcom based off a stupid car insurance commercial! Now a TV show about Erin Esurance, I'd watch that!

In any case, I heard rumors that the CW secured a full season order for Gossip Girl. Hopefully that's true. I heard it was getting clobbered in the ratings, so I was a little worried about its future. Criminal Minds is somehow very popular, and Private Practice has the same demographic, plus the connection to Grey's Anatomy to give it a bit of an edge. And there's also Bionic Woman to compete with. And on the TWoP boards, it doesn't seem to be getting nearly as much forum talk.

Top 5 favorite hotties of the new TV season: (as always, not in any particular order (well, mebbe a little), so don't be all aghast at Missy being listed as 4th, [livejournal.com profile] clevemire!)

1) Leighton Meester (Blair Waldorf on Gossip Girl)- I've talked about how hot Sweet Knees is on here before, so nothing more needs to be said.
2) Yvonne Strahovski (Sarah Walker on Chuck)- She has one of them Eastern European sounding last names, but she's actually an Aussie, so bonus points there already. Plus, I'm a fan of the blonde hair/green eyes combo. And the pigtails and German barmaid outfit she has to wear for her secret identity? HOTT!
3) Danay Garcia (Sofia Lugo on Prison Break)- Prison Break isn't new this season, but her character is. I dunno, of the new hot Latinas on hit Monday night TV shows (her only competition is Maya on Heroes), I'd say she's tops.
4) Missy Peregrym (Andi on Reaper)- She's not new to the airwaves, having played Candace on Heroes last season. And she's had credits here and there for a while. Its too bad Andi doesn't dress in the plaid skirts and knee high boots like Candace did.
5) Anna Friel (Charlotte "Chuck" Charles on Pushing Daisies)- She's bright-eyed, sweet, and mad cute on Pushing Daisies. And she looks egg-celent in those little sundresses they have her wear.
