TV commentary:
The Expanse- Yeah, that's like one of the most horrifying things I've ever seen. So we get a time jump, so the protomolecule structure could travel to near Jupiter and turn into a giant ring. Which, of course everyone's going to be fascinated by some mysterious alien ring.
Not so fascinated? Random belter slingshot racer, who was all set to make some record before everyone started talking about the ring. He ends up losing his girl, but then has a plan to make up for it- he'll be the first through the ring. He speeds through, despite the protests of dozens of UNN and MCRN vessels (you'd think they'd have quicker and more brutal reaction times, like, what if he was some mad bomber!). He gets to the ring- and his ship decelerates to nothing once it enters. Which basically means his innards go flying out of him at whatever speed he was going, and he explodes into a gross jelly.
But how's everyone else doing? Chrisjen's the new secretary general after Sorento-Ellis resigned after the fiasco on his watch. (Which was surprising that he's just gone, I figured Errinwright's treachery being discovered would repair some of his reputation and he'd continue on) Anna is now on a UNN ship, one of many going to the ring, full of various scientists and religious experts and all that to assess it. Its very Contact-ish!
Down to a mysterious person with a bomb! So we follow a random work crew, which includes a hot technician lady named Melba. Who secretly plants a bomb on one of the ships. Her supervisors discovers her, and then all of a sudden she seems to go into a trance, and with superhuman strength, smashes him head first into a wall, killing him instantly!
She didn't turn blue, so she's not like a hybrid. Besides, why would they use a bomb? I guess that's the problem with the fast pace of this show, they hint at certain technologies but don't really establish what's possible. I'm thinking they're some sort of cyborg implants or something. Presumably in that day and age, that's a thing for like assassins and saboteurs.
As for the Roci folks- despite Naomi and Holden having make up sex, she's off the ship, now serving as chief engineer to Drummer on the Behemoth, the new Belter battleship made from the Nauvoo. Drummer has a new second assigned on the trip, Ashford (who has Diogo in tow, looks like the kid rose through the ranks!) I don't trust the guy, he spends most of the ep undermining her authority. Now, Drummer is pretty hard nosed, but I always saw her as reasonable. So seeing some new guy trying to claim like she's clinging to the old ideals, and Belters need to do better to elevate them in the eyes of the inners makes me suspicious.
Bobbie is back on Mars, having been reinstated. Apparently she and Alex have been talking, is there a relationship brewing?
Prax is back on Ganymede with his daughter, rebuilding, and Amos misses him a lot.
As for the Roci, they have a documentary crew with them. Why!? Because apparently Mars isn't too pleased with them re-purposing one of their warships (the crew says it was legitimate salvage!), so in exchange for letting them be on board, the parent company of the newsies is willing to pay the Roci crew's ongoing legal fess.
And hey, the reporter lady is played by Berlin/Ollie's baby mama, Anna Hopkins. I've always thought she was cute, so nice to see her in a new recurring role. Heh, both her and her camera man hit on Amos. Though camera man guy is suspicious! He secretly starts going through the Roci's computers when he's unattended. Will he accidentally find that bit of protomolecule the crew missed?
In any case, in the end Holden sees... Miller? Now is it a hallucination? Or now that they're close to the protomolecule, Miller's reaching out?
