TV commentary:

Rise- So I had only been vaguely aware of Rise until the Superbowl, when they had the commercial with the kids singing "Glorious", and my interest was piqued. As I've said in other places, it seemed to have a FNL meets Glee sorta vibe. Which, I was sold already, but then when I discovered the plot was them trying to do "Spring Awakening", I started getting really excited.

Heh, from the very moment it starts, you know its by the FNL guy, because it starts with someone driving by picturesque scenes of the town. But instead of it being Texas, its a steel town in Pennsylvania, and there's no voiceover by Slamming Sammy Meade talking football.

Also, they refer to Robbie as "QB1" in the first minute, which do people really do that? While [personal profile] clevemire thinks since I went to Catholic school, we couldn't have a "real" football program compared to like the South and Midwest (and as [personal profile] isabel79 and [profile] 7500centfish our high schools were considered pretty good in the NYC/Long Island high school football leagues), football was still relatively big in my school, and no one was referring to the quarterback as QB1.

Anyways, I enjoyed it, it was sorta a more serious version of Glee- I mean, Lou practically Finn-ed him by blackmailing him into auditioning, just like Mr Schue did to Finn. But really, it felt more like FNL, except in a different, albeit still blue collar town, and there was a plot where like Riggins decided he wanted to be in a musical.

Apparently, the critics have seen the entire season already, and I've heard them say the music is more theater fair than the poppy choice Glee had. But that's not a bad thing! I would love if we got more Spring Awakening tracks. Or even some Hamilton! But yeah, we got a glimpse of them doing some of the songs during a montage, but I would really love to hear some full length versions of "Mama Who Bore Me" or "Totally Fucked" or "Don't Do Sadness/Blue Wind".

I'm also guessing this will satisfy the theater nerds who wanted to like Glee but felt it didn't do enough Broadway.

Speaking of musicals on NBC, so the upcoming Jesus Christ Superstar, John Legend is Jesus, Sara Bareilles is Mary Magdalene, and presumably Alice Cooper is Judas? As long as he does a good job on "Heaven on Their Minds"!

Legends of Tomorrow- Interesting way to get the Death totem. Apparently Elvis had found it when he got his first guitar? Which, that scene, its like, he's trying to buy a guitar, and the store owner is all, "The instrument chooses you!" He sees the one guitar, and the owner gets all dark and is all, "You don't want that one, its cursed!" If you really think its cursed, why the frick are you putting it on display to sell?!

Anyways, last time they went to the 50s way back in the first season, lets just say people were not exactly... progressive. So despite Elvis accidentally conjuring a bunch of ghosts, the most unrealistic thing in this ep was Nick kissing Amaya in public in freaking 1950s Memphis and people not being all scandalized or flipping out! Though I guess it was also Nick was the white one, and if things were reversed, then I'm sure people would've really blown their gaskets!

Flash- I thought it was fun to see the switchup. Although since when was Iris considered the "leader" of Team Flash. But I did like at the end how Barry asked Iris if she was okay switching back. I respect that he was willing to give up his powers and let her have them if that's what she wanted.

Also, I'm sure Wells using the Thinking Cap will go great!

Izombie- Interesting, they just glossed over that in the beginning. When the Coyote is trying to sneak the victim of the week in, we see some Fillmore-Graves soldiers executing some people. Who were they? And even more telling, they shot them in the heart, presumably so they could harvest their brains. So wait, are they killing people who try to sneak in/out, which is fair, but I'm surprised they would take their brains.

But I'm totally disgusted that some person would take advantage of and trick people who are trying to sneak in/out to kill them for their brains. And due to the brain shortage, Chase strongarms Blaine into finding "The Renegade", who we know is Mama Leone, who is actually one of the good coyotes!

Haha... The reason they're doing Spring Awakening turned me off from Rise! And now you say they did Hamilton too. Ew...

Lol, I'm horrible.

I think Alice Cooper is Herod. I don't remember who is Judas. At least I haven't heard of him in the pop music world, nor Bway. Which is odd considering he really is a major figure in the musical, if not equal to Jesus.

Haha!!! Honestly your description does make it more appealing. Maybe I'll binge watch if I'm bored one day.

I googled the Judas guy and I guess he's a Hamilton alum. Like you said he better be able to sing where as Herod not so much. But yeah, I guess bigger names get top billing. Like with Chess, seems like everyone went for Raul, when his role was smaller than Ramin Karimloo and Karen Olivo.
