TV commentary:

Legends of Tomorrow- Since I was helping [livejournal.com profile] clevemire with an issue with his tumblr, I think I missed some pertinent details in this ep. So we find out the Time Masters aren't corrupt, helping Savage for personal gain. Turns out in the future, the Thanagarians will invade and destroy earth. UNLESS, Savage comes to power and unites the world under him.

So Rip is disturbed to find out they've been pawns of the Time Masters all along, although there seems to be some causality faults here. So the Time Masters reveal they always intended Rip and his team to go back in time and do what they did, as it brought about the timeline they wanted. Preventing Savage from taking over too early and destroying the world, putting him onto time travel so he could rise to power, even getting Carter killed in the past so Savage could use his blood to lengthen the lifespans of his closest lieutenants to help him in his quest. But they said to do this, they needed to drive Rip by having Savage kill Rip's family.

And maybe I missed something, but that seems like there's a paradox there, because how would Savage be in line to kill Rip's family if Rip hadn't already gone after him. Also, if they were using the Team as pawns, why the hell did they send the Pilgrim to kill their last selves? Or did they know they were sacrificing her and that the team would always be able to beat her? I mean, I guess by doing the trying to kill their past selves thing, it did motivate them to try and strike at Savage in the future.

But yeah, this is part of what I think I missed, but for some reason, all this motivates Rip to destroy the Oculus that the Time Masters use to view time in order to... no longer be beholden to destiny? Was it if the Time Masters are blind, they can't mess with the team? I mean, it sounds like it was merely a way to view the timeline, not alter it, so I don't think destroying it "changes the future". Or was it that the only way to get the Time Masters to believe them was to blind them?

They did prove after all that the Oculus is not infallible. Rip saw a vision of Ray dying to destroy the Oculus and save the team. But then hilariously, in reality, the team falls all over each other trying to save each other. Mick goes to take Ray's place, but then Snart shows up and decks Mick to take HIS place, and ends up being the one getting blown up.

Before dying, he does manage to get a kiss from Sara. Which, I'm sure a few people are upset that they had Sara kiss a boy, but hey, she's bisexual! She used to go out with Ollie! But I guess that's a problem you can run into with bisexual characters, that there's the legitimate fear that its kinda like "bi erasure". Although technically having them be with only one sex or the other could be bi-erasure either way. Because having her just be with women leaves the part of her out that likes guys too.

I mean, I don't think its a big deal here, because its only a kiss. But I think often in TV, they have the bi person try the same sex relationship, but then end with the het relationship. Which is a legitimate thing to do in real life. The bisexual girl being with a guy doesn't make her any less bi. But on TV it becomes problematic because they are just fictional characters and you're just seeing a snippet of their lives. So when they go from gay to a het relationship, if its handled incorrectly, it can come off as the gay thing just being a "phase" or something to get out of their system. Also, there's plenty of het relationships on TV now, the number of same sex relationships, especially in a non-comedy, that last, you can prolly can count on less then two hands.

So I think in this day and age, even though its only showing one part of them, on TV and movies, you still have to lean on the same sex side for bisexuals. I think its better representation to show the bisexual girl or guy with someone of the same sex, than it is to have them with the opposite sex and only make references to them being bi, because we've become ingrained into think straightness is the standard, so people will just mark them off as straight.

But heh, Snart seems bi himself. I mean, Wentworth Miller is a gay man, and while he may be playing straight, I think he gives off a gay vibe even as Snart. Like he was freaking wearing a ring Mick gave him on their first score together? That is kinda gay, its like they're married!

Also, did they fix Jax? Was it they just needed to send him to the past to bleed his excess chronal energy or some such shit that was aging him, and now that he's gone back, he's fine and just need to get back to them?

Orphan Black- I think I've said this before, but sorry Cos, you've been replaced by Krystal as my favorite Clone after Alison. But you're still my second favorite. But speaking of, what the shit, they really need to read Krystal in to all this stuff! She may seem like a ditz, but she's smarter than she looks. I mean, look how much she figured out on her own, she's gotten almost as far as the rest of her sisters, and without being aware of half the shit going on! At the same time, because she's unaware of certain things, she's blundering into danger and doesn't even know it.

I mean, there's no reason to keep her in the dark anymore, she's in more danger now than she is remaining ignorant of all the clone stuff. And she might be a useful asset, given how much stuff she's figured out without their help.

It was hilarious though to have her infiltrate Brightborn the same time Cosima and Donnie infiltrated it, leading to hilarity. Since Cosima knew more, she knew to hide her face from Evie. But Krystal, be unaware was just out there being herself, and got spotted. But even then that's funny, because Susan and Ira had come to visit, and Evie is all, "I think one of the Clones infiltrated!" and thought it was Sarah in disguise.

So then Susan goes to deal with it, and instead runs into Cosima. And later she tells Evie, "You effin idiot, that was Cosima!" So they send the guards to grab her, but hilariously, they grab Krystal instead, and only then do they realize they have two clones on site.

They do let Krystal go though, since she doesn't know anything, which I guess could be a case for her keeping in the dark. But not every one Krystal ends up investigating might be so... accommodating. Like Susan might not want to destroy one of her creations, but there are a lot of dangerous people involved in all of this who might react to Krystal more strongly.

They do find Cosima eventually, after she's seen one of the babies being birthed by these surrogates. And apparently some of them have horrible mutations. Susan talks to Cosima, and she might be close to turning her. She tells Cosima plainly she's dying, and telling them about the original could give them a cure. Also, she implies she may know something about Delphine's fate. So I'm thinking she might convince Cosima to help her.

In the other side of things, Sarah becomes very distrustful of Adele once she finds out the company that did the genetic testing showing she and Felix are half-siblings is under the DYAD umbrella. So, she gets some samples and has Scott do a test... but they are really half siblings.

Needless to say, Felix is pissed. I mean, I get why he wanted to find his real family, everything's been centered around Sarah, and like he said, even their foster mother ends up being actually related to Sarah. So he feels left out. But at the same time, its not like Sarah is just wanting to be the center of attention! Its like they have freaking huge powerful people after them, so she has a right to be paranoid! He's kinda being a dick here getting mad at Sarah for not just taking Adele at face value.

Yeah, the clone stuff sucks for him, and he's been kinda hanging that all on Sarah, but its a pretty major and dangerous issue that does need all their attention.

Other stuff, Susan and Ira are apparently lovers. And Art is pissed because he finds out IA guy is onto Alison for being a drug dealer, and possibly involved in a triple murder. He may be a part of Clone Club, but he's still a cop. So this investigation blindsides him, and he lays into Sarah thinking she may know about this stuff and was keeping him in the dark. So she lays into Alison, who hilariously hangs up on her.

Which, I love the dynamic Sarah has with Helena, but Sarah and Alison's dynamic cracks me up, because they're like the two sisters who just hate each other most of the time. And its funny to see that kinda sibling fighting.
