TV commentary:

30 Rock- What was with the obscure Annie references in this ep? I mean, it wasn't just once, they had another callback to it at the end, and even the end tag was a Mariachi version of the song. Although I suppose "NYC" isn't that obscure of a song for them to do. The most obscure song they've ever done is still "Top That" from Teen Witch.

b>Vampire Diaries- Heh, I thought Klaus and Rebekah seemed kinda hincky back in the 20s, but wow, he's got nothing on Kol. Geez, could he sound anymore jealous about his sister's liaisons? And ha, Elena moves fast! So now that both the Salvatores are messing with her heart currently, all of a sudden she feels sorry for Elijah and how he helped her out so much last year and he doesn't deserve to die like the rest of his family? She does realize he's totes in love with her because she's the spitting image of Tatia, right? It is funny they call it out with Rebekah getting all pissy with Elena because all the boys seem to love her.

Its interesting that even though its the next day, all of a sudden the Mystic Falls gang knows all about Esther's plan. That, and even though its a pretty big deal, they're just hanging out and chilling, trusting it will just happen.

But even if they thought it was that easy, you'd think they'd leave nothing to chance. Like say, LETTING ELENA RUN OFF AND SPILL THE BEANS TO ELIJAH. So he takes her hostage, and tells the brothers to stop his mum from drawing power from the Bennett bloodline (by say, killing Bonnie and/or Abby), else Beks will kill Elena.

They go with plan B first, daggering one of the kids. In this case, Kol. Caroline distracts Klaus (heh, she does realize she's not supposed to fall for him, right?), and while Kol messes with Meredith, Alaric quickly stabs him in the back. Its short lived though, even though it does send Elijah, Finn, and Bekah into torpor, it only mildly weakens Klaus, who quickly rescues his brother.

So they have to proceed with the killing a Bennett plan. So ha, since they're both in the doghouse now, they flip a coin to see who will kill Abby (because c'mon, they're not actually gonna kill Bonnie, they know her) and take on all the Elena hate. Stefan lost (or won?) the coin toss, but Damon kills (well, turns, because I guess ghost-witches are still witches, but there's no such thing as a witchpire) Abby. He noticed Stefan had stopped drinking human blood (apparently since that night when he tried to drive Elena off Wickery Bridge) and stopped being a ripper and is trying to turn back to the goody goody Elena fell for. Given Damon's the bad boy screw up who Elena feels bad for loving, that's the role he's going to play and drive her away. And let's not forget last season when he told her how he loved her, but Stefan was the one who deserved her, and the man she deserved. And since Stefan's getting back to being that man, Damon's bowing out.

In any case, we don't get to see her interaction with Damon after all this. But she does try to see Bonnie, who doesn't want to see her. Caroline tells her that Bonnie is glad she's alive, but how it seems every time Elena gets into a huge mess, its Bonnie who ends up getting hurt over it.

With Esther's power gone, she and Finn run off. (Its interesting they refer to Finn as the favorite son, when last ep she said all her kids were like Elijah.) The rest of the family scatters as well. Kol runs, as does Elijah (but not before leaving a sappy letter with Elena, does she have like a magical vagina or something?). The Bekster sticks with Klaus though, since he's they've stuck beside each other for so long.

Speaking of, Klaus is heartbroken that Caroline tricked him, going all emo and burning all the pics he drew of her in the fireplace. But he has more important things to worry about now. When Bekah chased Elena in the underground tunnels, and Elena took refuge in that one warded cave, Bek noticed something the MF gang didn't find out when they were translating the cave drawings. There was a calendar by the drawing of the white oak tree. 300 years after they burned it down. Meaning there's another white oak tree out there, so they can be killed permanently if someone forges some new white oak stakes.

And the final shocker of the night, Alaric spends the night with Meredith, but gets up in the middle of the night for some water. He notices some files on a table with pics of the ME and Bill Forbes, and knives that look just like the one used to attack him and Caroline's dad. Meredith shows up, gun in hand, telling him its unfortunate he saw all that. And shoots him!! And argh, it'll be a month before we find out what happens next!
