Vampire Diaries- Interesting reveals and twists this ep! So, we finally learn about Bonnie's mom, and why she left. Apparently she was the one who had trapped Michael when he came around years ago looking for Elena. She claims this caused her to lose her magic, but that's not the whole truth. Once she had lured Michael away from Mystic Falls and ensorcelled him in that crypt, she saw a life away from Mystic Falls, one without all the supernatural worries. So, in an assy move, she abandons her family (and makes a new one!). But this is what truly caused her to lose her magic- leaving Bonnie. Interesting though, that Bonnie's dreams led her to her mom being the key to opening the last coffin, but since she has no magic, does she have nothing to offer, or is there something else useful she's supposed to provide. Or did her dreams not know that bit of info? I assume Abby still has some use.
So Meredith has been wanting to use vampire blood to heal her patients, and manages to steal some to save Caroline's dad (more on that later). She might end up being as crazy as her characters on other shows (Nanny Carrie and Spencer's sister). Particularly the way she was eyeing Alaric's ring once he told her about it.
And how exactly did Caroline's dad get injured. In a surprising move (seriously, did I miss a scene?) HRG wants to make amends with Caroline all of a sudden for acting like an ass. And how is he going to do that? Using his ability to resist compulsion to try and break Tyler of his sire bond. This somehow involves him forcing himself to turn. HRG eventually gets him to do it, and Tyler ends up attacking him. Whoops! But that's not going to deter him, because given the danger to his daughter, he's going to make damn well sure Tyler doesn't hurt her again.
In other developments, Klaus has his coffins back. He figured out Elena (who BTW, was in a sexy little outfit this ep, what with the short denim skirt and knee high leather boots!) and Bonnie were looking for Bonnie's mom, and sent a hybrid there ahead of time to compel Abby's "son" (not her blood, the son of an ex she took in. I wonder if they made sure to say Bonnie and him aren't blood relatives, because he's a potential new love interest for her) to kill himself if they didn't tell him where the coffins were.
Bonnie has no choice but to tell him. And he gets the witches to give it up by threatening to end the Bennett line by killing Bonnie. Unfortunately for him, Bonnie managed to warn Damon, who hid the final coffin. So Klaus and the Salvatores are still under an uneasy truce. But that's not the only monkey wrench threw in the works. Little did Klaus know, but when he got the coffins back, Damon had removed Elijah's dagger. So, Elijah's back up and angry.
Finally, Elena confesses to Stefan she kissed Damon. And Stefan apparently still does care- he was acting like he could care less, even teased them about getting together now that he's gone. But knowing they did kiss pisses him off enough to punch Damon for betraying him.
Secret Circle- So, we learn more about the boat fire in this ep. But first, the other storylines. No Melissa this ep, because she and her dad take a sudden trip to Seattle for some reason. Faye spends most of the time at Lee's. We learn he apparently used to be a drug dealer. Of a magical drug that gives you powers. Given Faye's lust for power and his skeezy friend giving her a free sample, I'm guessing she's about to become an addict?
Since Dawn and Charles have had a falling out, she manipulates Adam's father Ethan, claiming Charles attacked her and how he has a crystal, and they need to get it from him. He confronts Charles and manages to get the crystal, but not all goes according to Dawn's plan. Charles convinces Ethan that Dawn can't be trusted, so when she comes around looking for the crystal, he says he's going to hold on to it.
Anyways, Jake seeks Cassie's help to remember the boat fire- apparently he was there when he was a kid, having sneakily followed his parents to the boat, but his memory is blocked. So, they go into his memories, but of course things go wrong. The ordeal proves too much for Jake, and he doesn't want to go further into his memory, but Cass wants to press it, so she continues following his parents in his memoryscape. Unfortunately, while he wakes out of it, she's stuck in there.
So what do we learn? The circle was there to form a truce with the witch hunters. But it was a trap, and they killed everyone there (except Jake and Nick's mom and someone else who I wasn't sure who she was. Another one of the parents? The demon chick?) and planned to do a ritual to kill Cassie's dad since he was too powerful to kill through normal means. Also, Ethan was possibly a traitor, having been there and allowed to leave by the hunters of his own accord.
But Cassie finds out what really happened. They did the ritual, to no effect. John ends up immolating the hunters and escaping. Cassie sees him dropping a special amulet (which she goes to find and picks up in the real world latr). Jake is able to get back into his memory with Diana and Adam's help to get Cassie out of there. He also ends up getting to see his mom die in the fire (though at least he didn't see his dad's throat get slit or see the corpses of everyone else's parents)
In the end, Cassie and Jake dig up her dad's grave to be sure, and nope, there's just animal bones in there. So her dad is out there and alive.
The flashback was weird, because everything happened a bit fast. I mean, Cassie and Jake were all, things were happening in other parts of the boat, but we couldn't hear. But not that time actually passes when she follows Jake's parents. Of course, maybe it took a while from when she first saw them to that one room, and the audience didn't experience it. Because otherwise, damn, those hunters work fast then if they can kill a whole room full of witches.
I'm guessing the boat fire will be revisited over again this season, probably from different viewpoints, so we'll see what was up with Ethan being there, and how the hunters managed to kill everyone. Oh, I forgot to mention while Cassie was there, she did encounter a mysterious chick who could see her and said she shouldn't be there, but we don't learn who she is and how she can see Cass.
I'll have to say, the boat fire definitely has me intrigued now that we know more.
